These speakers look really nice and are very well made. I am an audio enthusiast and bought these based on reviews. They get very good ratings on a number of sites. They sound very "hollow" to me though. There is no mid-range to speak of. I wish they sounded better because they have little LED lights on the satellites which is very cool.

The two main speakers are basically the same ones that came with my iMac (G4 model), and they sound very good. I picked up this set for my living room, and simply attached my iPod's dock to the bass unit, where all the cables converge. That's my stereo now. The gray models' color is slightly cool and is glossy but not metallic in finish. It doesn't quite match any of my other electronics, but it's not an awful mismatch either. The dials, controls and the covers for the speaker memberanes are almost all chrome-silver covered plastic. The bell shapes grow on you. Small integral pedestals in the molds hold them about 1/4" off whatever surface they're on, so vibrations are minimised fairly well for most settings. The two main speakers are quite small, and can tuck away fairly easily, though their bell shapes don't make them the best bookends. The subwoofer is smaller than some, but not too small that it affects their output.The speakers pick up plenty of detail from the music for most listeners, though if you're really trained, I'm sure they're not nearly as good as more professional gear. In my experience, the bass unit is maybe a tiny bit too aggressive at its normal level, but that depends on your music too. More recent music is being mastered to emphasize bass, and it can drown out midtones and treble. The level you can pump up the treble, bass and volume is almost ridiculous, so be careful if you have pranksters in the house who like to fiddle with the controls. :-)The volume is controlled by touch-sensitive buttons on the right speaker. There are no moving parts; it's like the iPod's scroll wheel in that sense. They're sensitive to touch and you can just hold your finger on the "+" or "-" buttons to keep changing the volume, no annoying tapping needed. The volume shifts are noticeable with each click, but are not too different that you'll have that problem where the voume seems either too quiet or too loud with nothing in between. The controls for the treble and bass are located on the subwoofer. This seemed inconvenient at first since you usually put that piece out of the way, but I never touch the two settings once I put them where I liked them. Others who want to fiddle more might find this to be a problem, though they might also find that two simple equalizers isn't good enough either. I find the default mid-range setting to be right for both. Basically, I trust whoever is mastering the tracks in the studio to get the equalizers right for me (even if it means a lot of bass). The dials "fall" into place at the mid-range easily although there aren't any visual indicators of their current setting. You have to "feel" your way around the dial. Again, if someone wants to interrupt your pacemaker with high bass, this thing makes it easy. ;-)The AC adaptor brick is kind of big. All the cables and their plugs on the bass unit are distinguished by color and shape -- square peg, square hole fit kinda thing. The cables are 4'-6' long, I can't remember exactly. Long enough so that my subwoofer is on the floor and the two speakers are about 30" higher and about 6' apart with the cables still slack.Considering that some computers get the equivalent speakers already, and that even without the subwoofer, they get good bass, this won't always be a good choice, especially at this price. But for my purposes, or for those who got cheapo speakers with their computer, these fit the bill nicely.

These speakers are small and look cool, but they do not do the job whether hooked to a computer or an iPod directly. They cannot handle any amount of volume. They are too tinny and the bass is too flat. The combination of the speakers really does not work. I boutght them for my house or office to simply listen to music while doing work and they were not good for even that. Go with Altec Lansing. That is a much better product.

I got these speakers for my iPod and thought they would work great. They look cool but mine broke two days later. I returned them and got my money back. Also, the sound is bad.

I could not believe the sound quality I received from these speakers. The "one touch" volume controls on the speakers was absolutely great. I recommend these to any person who enjoys listening to all kinds of music. I watched the movie "Happy Feet", on my computer with the speakers and the surround sound will knock you off your "feet".

I got these speakers because of the combination it madE with my mac. The speakers sound great, this is what I really needed because they are not too big and the sound is perfect for me. Probably if you are really fan of loud music you should look for something else but even though, these speakers are perfect if you want quality, good sound and design.

This is an excellent set of speakers for such a small price. It fits nicely in my room and is quite stylish with my decor as well as providing great sound. I use it with my iPod nano and I couldn't have asked for a better sound system for the price. I highly recommend it if you need speakers for a smaller space. It wouldn't fill a house with adequate sound, but is great in a bedroom, office or kitchen area.

Tested these, side by side with the Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks. Flashy those sticks. I wanted to justify getting them, but for my kind of music they did not perform NEARLY as well as the JBL Creatures. Here's why. If you listen to anything that is fast, with vocals, like acoustic guitar, the creatures are crisp and clear and very well balanced. They were $129 at the Apple store and about half that on Amazon. Test them for yourself. Take a CD to the apple store and be amazed. Disclaimer: if you like your windows to rattle and your car to sound like it's going to blow up from bass, then you might not want these speakers.

I've had the JBL creature II speakers for over a year now and all of a sudden they gave out on me... But lets talk about the experience before that. You have to admit, looks play a big role in the purchasing of this product. It really stands out being that its not your typical squared speaker system. Beautiful! And the green lights under each speaker adds the pefect touch especially in a dark room. The subwoofer does an ok job handling the bass, but it's not too powerfull. Doesnt really get down there on the low bass. The power cord has a super huge brick in the middle of the cord. These are fairly small speakers and not all that powerfull so is the enormous, 3lb power brick really necessary? Another annoying thing is that the power button is wedged right between 2 cords in the back of the woofer. Kinda hard to get to, you almost need a pencil to get in there! About the sound - you dont really have any options, its just one tone all the way through. So its not too great on bringing out the good stuff on vocals, jazz, acoustic or classical music. On the other hand they reach a pretty decent volume if you're just using them as dektop speakers. You can't really expect a super power sound system for under 100 bucks. Apart from all the pros & cons I would like to put my problem out on the table.. I was doing some moving so i disconnected my crature II's and when I hooked them back up they didnt want to work. I hear a very low buzzing noise comming out of the subwoofer but nothing from the 2 side speakers. It's pretty annoying to not be able to do anything, but I guess after almost 2 years its better that I just upgrade for my own listening pleasure!

I'm in a place that's only 18' x 23" and they're perfect for it. I can't believe how much they'll fill up the room. If this was a much larger room, they wouldn't work as well. Actually, the sub-woofer could power an even larger room. I have to be careful I'm not disturbing the neighbors!

The Creature II's are probably the best multimedia speakers out there. They have high definition sound quality, and are high quality in features. For a 3 speaker system (Bass/Woofer) (2 Satellites) it makes you feel as if you are listening to a surround sound system. Apperance wise I would rate the Creature II 10/10. They look very cool, and can go anywhere. You can use the Creature II with your computer, and place it by the monitor because of its Magnetic Shield. On one satellite speaker, there is universal volume control. The neat thing about this is that it controlled by static. When your finger is placed on the + (volume up) or - (volume down) sign u barely have to press, it is statically sensored to control the volume. On the Sub you can control Trebel and Bass, which is another quality feature to this amazing speaker system. I would highly reccomend this system to anyone who is looking for a system involving multimedia, or even just a single speaker system. It goes great with Ipods, Mp3's and your computer. The only speakers I've ever owned, other than these, were blockish and black, and genereally ugly. I suppose most speaker makers were just thinking of Function and not Form. These Speakers get both elements right.I bought these for two reasons, my roomie and his computer, and the guy across the floor with his speakers and Sub. First off, my roommate was a jerk and he'd come in while I was working and playing music on my puny Laptop speakers, turn on his music and blast me with some screamer or hardcore band. He had a blockish Sub that he could hide under his desk. The Guy across the floor on the otherhand, this guy took bass to new levels. There are forty some odd people living on this floor, I live in one corner, he lived on the EXACT OPPOSITE CORNER of the building, and I could FEEL his bass all the way over here, and I could hear it too.These are the best speakers I've ever used by the way, they are impossible to set up wrong, since everything's color coded, and there are lights on the satellites that light up when they're hooked into the right jack. You can control volume via the right speaker or do what I do, turn the speakers up to full and just control everything through the Computer. I get a good range that way, for instance, level one is quiet enough that no one except me. Level four is about as loud as my laptops speakers can get, and since I don't have a roomie this year to worry about blasting me, I normally keep it around five or six. I can't turn them all the way up just cause they're so loud, six is only about a third of their power. The good news about that is even at the limits of what my ears can take (around twelvish) I can hear no distortion, and the professional reviewers say that even at the higest they go, they can't hear anything bad either.I have an Apple iBook, so my computer is a "stylish" computer and these complement it wonderfully, just beautifully.So these speakers are both very functional/powerful, and they are well designed to be shown off and not hidden under a desk. Buy them, love them, they are awesome!

This product is small and inexpensive but very functional as a shelf speaker system. The sound quality is reasonably strong while not being overbearing. I highly recommend this product for living rooms, etc where music is played at passive levels (not if your trying to shake the room).

I gave this to my son for Christmas to use with his computer notebook and he loves it. The sound quality is what you expect from JBL, but the price is unexpected... the best I found anywhere. Upon returning to his dorm last week he remarked that once they were on the shelving it gave a surround sound affect that couldn't be matched by many other computer enabled speakers. (I still can't over the fact that the bass piece looks like Darth Vader's helmet, tho!)

My rating is based on what it is, an innovative, contemporary, small sound system. I would have been happy at the $[...] price but at $[...] I'm ecstatic. If you don't need to vibrate the walls, this is worth a look. And besides, it's just weird enough looking to be cool.

I highly recommend these speakers if you want a nice compact and very flashy set of computer/Ipod speakers. I use them mainly for my Macbook and they match very well! JBL is a very good and well-established company. I noticed most of the the speaker systems in mall stores and stuff are JBL. The sound, especially the bass is very clear even at high volumes, and bass and treble are easily adjusted via the knobs.

I wanted a good media-type PC because I have an extensive record and CD collection, I purchased a Sony VAIO. But the speakers provided with it were tinny sounding and just plain awful. Being on a limited budget, I bought the JBL Creature II speakers and was amazed at the quality of tone they provide. Rich, deep bass sounds that literally vibrate my desk and high notes of unbelievable purity and clarity. Bass and treble tone controls make it easy to find the right sound for an individual.Now, when in electronic stores, I try out various PC speaker units and have yet to find anything that comes close to my JBLs, even those costing much, much more.

It's compact, has an innovative design, is attractive and sounds amazing.I love controlling the volume and even muting the speakers, with a light touch on the controls. I have the "boom box" device high on a shelf and to my far left, but I swear I can't tell where the bass is coming from. Amazing! And especially for the price! Go Amazon! (One tip- the wires in the back for the two "tweeters" are triangular in shape, so when you insert them, you might think they are in, but they aren't.)

I had bought a set for my son to use with his Mac laptop a few years ago and was amazed at the sound. I bought a black set for a customer using a Mac Mini and he's had trouble with them. I bought a white set for my husband to use with his Dell and they've been wonderful. Truly amazing speakers for the price.

I cannot imagine better performance from such inexpensive speakers. I listen to a wide variety of music such as rock, hip hop, and classical and all sound great.Please note that these have a protective layer on them so that you do not get interference that you get from most all other computer speakers! this is a huge feature. sounds quality and sleek look can't be beat.

The only thing that I don't love about these speakers is the power switch...it's in an awkward place. Other than that, these speakers provide a superior sound quality as well as an alternate look to the typical hideous varieties. They are particularly attractive when coupled with MAC. I'll probably order another in black (my "home" set are white) for work. Highly recommend.

Returned this product the same day I received it. There is a message with the instructions about a problem that must be quite common in being able to adjust the volume. I tried the three suggestions to adjust the volume--including having to move the unit to a place I did not want it or using metal for some conductivity issue--but nothing worked. It looked good, but worked terribly. For speakers to have a volume control problem that is so common they have to give you three ways to try to correct the problem is enough of a warning--stay away from this worthless junk.

Compared to the 2 tinny Dell packaged-with-pc speakers they replaced, the JBL Creature II speakers add impressive depth and dynamic range to music and voice. user interface is nice, too. ok, they look a little strange, but they've blended into my desk environment now. and for less than $60, too. great service from amazon, too.

The speakers have a clear, potent sound and a sleek design. The touch-sensitive volume controls work well and the "active" lights beneath the tweeters are helpful. My only negative observation is that the sub-woofer needs to be toned down because it can easily overwhlem. All in all, they were an excellent buy.

I have been very impressed with these JBL Creature 2 speakers. I am upgrading from some low-end Labtec speakers, so I might be a little biased, but the sound quality of these speakers is fantastic! When doing my research online, I came across many reviews that mentioned poor mid-range quality. I'll be completely honest, it's there, but really not noticable. Also, there are plenty of pictures to look at, but once you get these on your desk, nothing does justice! It's like I have a work of art on my desk! And finally, you can't beat the price of this system. At ~$70, these speakers have great value! With all this in mind, do yourself a favor and order some for yourself! You won't be sorry!

this is really a great speaker.however, there is one thing i would like to emphasize:when plugging in the cords, please confirm that each cord matches their color and especially their shape. paying attention to the shape would ensure you plug it into the right depth.

Great sound from tiny speakers. Unpack, plug in, enjoy. Simple, well made with simple controls on subwoofer and right speaker. I wish everything in electronics was that simple. Good buy for quality stuff.

Great Value for money system. Would Highly reccomend.Incredible clear and extremely powerful sound form the two satellite speakers, and a steady base to match. Aesthetically Pleasing as well, it is a great cheap addition to any are of the home.It is advisable to configure your systems volume to match that with your input(e.g ipod volume) to get the best sound quality.

I bought this little system after reading all the reviews of other people. Some liked it and others didn't. But I already have a stereo speaker by JBL in the living room. JBL has been one of the industry leaders in sound system. So that was why I decided to get this one for my newly purchased DELL computer. After I hooked up the speakers, my expectation was high enough to be really sensitive. To make it short, the sound is simply awesome!!!! Those two littel ones have an astonishing high(treble)frequency and clarity that I haven't heard from any other speakers including my standup speakers. And the bass from the subwoofer is so powerful. This system is much better than those with 4 or 5 surround system. I highly recommend this product!

I recommend these speakers - have had them for 3 months now and they are great - sound quality is great.Power converter gets pretty hot though so i suggest putting it on something non flammable - don't think it would catch anything on fire but just to be safe. Speakers are not super loud but are great if you just want quality sound.

Great buy for a wonderful speaker system. Works beautifully with my MAC Mini for great sound. Would not hesitate to purchase again. Great contemporary look on my desk. So easy to turn the volume up or down either from my screen or the subtle touch control on the Creature. I highly recommend.

I got these speakers when my other ones just wouldn't work anymore and I couldn't be happier. The sound that comes from the JBL Creatures is just amazing. It is so loud and so clear and with the bass it just couldn't be better. I have no regrets about these speakers.

These speakers are worth double every penny paid for em'!!I love the sound, Its crisp, clear and balanced - without the constant rotating the frequency wheel! - the only slight problem I have is with hard rock // metal music - the SCREECH!!!!! - but thats because these speakers are power packed and I turned the volume too high ;-)Oh and the LOOK! .. the LOOK! ... The LOOK!!!!!!Every guest I have had, ask.. Hey what is that, A Camera? A Security system? ..etc...etc.. and how great and eloquent it looks on top of the Dell UltraSharp :PAliens have abducted me.Now only the Creature III can save me.

My dad bought this system as a companion to his new G4 ibook, or whatever the new one is named. I was put in charge of figuring out how to get this system hooked up to it. Hook-up is relatively easy--they have a nice picture diagram for those who don't read directions. Nevertheless, even if you skip the diagram the connections are color-coded and specially shaped anyway.After about four hours of listening to albums ranging from The Velvet Underground, Van Morrison, Neil Young, and up to the newest Wilco--from both the laptop's cd player and my ipod--I can honestly add my voice to the legions of the many satisfied listeners. It took a while to find just the right amount of bass to make up for the slight lack of mid-range, but once that point is reached, the Creatures sound nice. Aesthetically and practically (if your space will allow) it works best to keep the sub nearby the computer. The system then becomes ideal for clean sounding music played at low or medium volume. Granted I am no audio genius, but like pornography with the eyes, my ears know good-sounding music upon hearing it. Its just that I would consider the Creatures more like playboy when I know there are lots of other choices out there that might give you a more in-depth experience of the music (like my brother's SoundStick II's, or perhaps my dad's Sony tower speakers hooked to a high-power amp.). But then again, these sorts of things admit of degrees, and in that sense, the Creatures will certainly do in a pinch.Considering the price, brand recognition, and keeping in mind the somewhat limited possibilities of this type of speaker system, the Creatures will not leave the rational buyer very disappointed. Hence, this consumer's five-star rating.

I bought the speaker system for my sister after hearing a friend's set. the small speakers are very powerful and the sub provides a nice bass hit. Definitlely recommended for laptops, MP3 players, etc.

In short: They sound okay, but not that great. The only huge problem I had with these [at first] is that they aren't very loud. I don't listen to music terribly loud anyway, so it's not like I'm looking for really intense power. They sound clean, but as everyone else said, midrange is seriously lacking. And when you turn them up, the bass goes up in a really not proportionate way. Of course you can adjust that in an equalizer or even just turn down the bass knob, but who wants to change their speaker settings every time you turn the volume up or down? Not me.About six months or less after owning these though, something happened to the volume control. All I did was move them to another room, and suddenly I could barely hear them. Then they got progressively softer, until they stopped working entirely. A month later, they started working again, but are now stuck at a ridiculously low volume that basically renders them useless. It sounds like a lot of other people have had this problem so ultimately:Don't buy these. Buy something that sounds better, and as a plus you won't have to deal with JBL's manufacturing defect.

The JBL Creature II 3-Piece Powered Speaker System is the perfect 3 piece system for someone looking for quality sound and versatility. I personally use it with my iPod docking station to bring my music on the "road" with me. All you need is an outlet, JBL priovides all the rest. Why pay thousands to have outddor speakers installed when you can just plus this in by the pool, plug in your iPod, and let JBL do the rest.

These puppies sat on my wish list for a long time until recently. Totally worth the wait. Amazing crisp clear sound, adjustable. Sleek deisgn, touch sensor volume control (very cool). Its hard not to want them in every room of the house!A very excellent product for a modest amount of money!

The speaker system is amazing. I had been wanting to buy new speakers since my old ones were going on 13 yrs old i looked around a didnt find anything to my liking. then i remembered i had seen these speakers a few months back. so i looked them up and they seemed to be the perfect match for what i was looking for. so i ordered them and i am more then pleased. they were so flipping awesome my friend ordered the black ones. I would recommend these to anyone lookign for speakers. and i bought them on amazon.com for at lease 20 dollars less then any other online store i saw them for as much as 129.99. so buy from here. Excellent product.
