Purchased these a few days ago, and I got to say one of the top speakers I've used for a while. The treble and bass is great for music and movies. No complaints about this thing. I would highly recommend anyone who has a budget between $85-$100. I personally back home have a set of Logitech z5500 and those were around $300-$500, but they were to big to carry around with me. These things can compare for size to quality.Let me know what you think when you pick these up =)

I waited until cyber monday so the price would come out to $69.99. Great price for these speakers. Good sound quality for music and movies. The only problem is the short cables that connect all 3 pieces of the speakers. Get these if you have limited space for speakers.

These speakers are wonderful. The sound is very crisp and clean. I didn't expect them to be as good as they are, but I trusted the previous reviews I read. I highly suggest them. They don't take up a lot of room, but give you a very enjoyable sound experience from your computer.

I've had these speakers for 4 years now. The bass and treble are adjustable. You can't ask for better. When I purchased them they were $30 more, so this is a great deal for great speakers. To the guy with the Apple speakers he says were blown, you should have bought a PC. Apples are made to be proprietary and more expensive.

I purchased these speakers for my dorm room because of all the great reviews. I connect them to my laptop and MP3 player, although I could not get them to work with my TV. I feel like I'm hearing all of my songs for the first time. The bass is incredible and the touch volume buttons are a nice addition. I have absolutely no complaints. They are well worth the price.

I work online, so I spend 30 hours a day on a computer, usually listening to music. I have two other surround sound systems in the house (a Denon 1910 receiver with JBL cs6100bg speakers on a 56 inch Samsung plasma and an Onkyo 7.1 ht-s6200 on a Mac Pro with a 48 inch Sony LCD for a monitor) but I needed something with a small footprint for my second desk to plug into a MacBook Pro with a 32 inch Panasonic LCD for a monitor. These are perfect. Simply perfect. Small, simple, clean and cool looking with crystal clear sound, and so incredibly light that I wondered if there was some mistake when FedEx dropped it off. I'm not a bass guy or audiophile and maybe these wouldn't pass that test, but for simple day to day music, they're everything I was hoping for. That they're only 100 dollars is crazy. If they were three times the price and I knew they'd be this good, I'd gladly have paid it. All you really need to know is that it's JBL, and this is the third incarnation of their creature line. Everything is refined and every problem solved. Highly recommended.

I've tested a number of speakers for there different areas: Living Room, Office, and my Desk at Home. After trying (and returning a number of well reviewed choices) I settled on the following:Office - JBL Creature II 3-Piece Powered Speaker SystemThese 2.1 speakers don't have the total power of the Logitech Z-2300, but they have much clearer and better imaging. Since my office is smaller than my living room, and shares a wall with someone, I don't need as much power. These were perfect. The high end is crisp, and the subwoofer clean. The volume control on the satellites is handy, but the bass adjustment is on the subwoofer. I thought this would be an issue, but you actually kind of set it and monkey with it a bit in the beginning, and then leave it alone. The satellites are much smaller than the Logitech and less cheesy looking, which makes them nicer on your desk. I have to say again how killer the sound is. Imaging is great, and it's crazy how they manage to do it with those tiny satellites.Desk at Home - M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio MonitorsThese simply have the best sound and imaging of everything I tried except the higher end M-Audio reference speakers. No MP3 is going to sound ever as good as a CD through a component stereo(or an LP, but don't get me started). But I am amazed at the quality of these speakers. They wouldn;t have the power to fill a living room, or even an office. By the time you're 6'-8' away from them, the imaging settles out a bit. But for your desk or as satellite speakers for a TV that didn't come with great ones already, they are perfect. They are a little bigger than many desktop speakers overall, but since many desktop speakers are oddly shaped with leaning towers and wide stands, they actually don;t take up as much more footprint comparatively. The volume and headphone jack and aux in are all on one of the speakers, very handy for access and for plugging in your iPod at your desk. I tried several of the higher end M-Audio speakers, and while I found them to be even better with more power and clarity, it just wasn't enough better to justify the additional size and expense.Living Room - Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 200-Watt 2.1 Speaker SystemThis system had the best overall power of everything I tried. Everything else sounds good when you're close enough to the speakers, but as you move away it gets pretty weak. For the living room you definitely need a 2.1 system. Even the M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors, which seem the be the best of the 2 speaker systems couldn't handle a real room. As mentioned in a number of other reviews, the subwoofer unit is larger than others out there. I expect that's part of the reason these have good power. Make sure you've got a good place to hide it. Sound is very good comparatively. Nothing is going to sound like a real 200w component stereo, but this comes pretty close. I find that the imaging, or perceptual soundstage is a little lacking, not as clearly defined as with the JBL Creature II 3-Piece Powered Speaker System or the M-Audio Studio 3. This got better when I added 6' RCA cable extenders to the satellite speaker wires which allowed me to separate the satellites a bit. But still not great. The volume knob thing is nice, and it's nice to have both volume and bass adjustment handy. I guess you could have easily put the controls on one of the satellites like everyone else though. The headphone jack on the volume control seems pointless to me, but maybe you'll like it. What I wish was that you could have an aux input on the volume thing to plug in your ipod or something else. There you have it. EnjoyMichael Peachey

Purchased Creature Speakers for my husband's work computer 8 years ago. Loved them so much I bought a set for my computer. Had them a little over 7 years. We had some breakers blow at the office and it destroyed the subwoofer. So I looked around and ended up purchasing the same ones! I love them. The sound is GREAT! Love the new black color and design. Very easy to install. Best price for what you get. The one BIG draw back with this set is the wires are too short. Had to move the subwoofer up behind my monitor. It used to be on the floor.

I'm no audiophile but the sound coming out of these is just fine for me. They look really sweet too. It's really really important you take a very close look at the connectors for the two tiny satellite speakers. The plastic surrounding the 3.5mm jack on one is square and the other is triangular and they ONLY fit in the correct recepticle on the back of the subwoofer. If you put them in the wrong recepticle and in the wrong rotation then they won't push all the way in and you will have no sound.I've just spent an hour thinking mine were bust and I suspect every other one of the problems on here are the same thing.Good luck guys!

I find that this speakers deliver as promised. While playing mp3, AAC, and any other audio file, the sound was clear as crystal. While listening to music videos on YouTube, the sound was not that clear as i could hear distortions coming out of the speakers. You do not need to crank the volume all the way up to have a nice sound environment. They are fairly capable of producing high enough sound that you can neatly listen to in a wide open space.

I purchased these a few years ago after doing some research. Chief among my concerns at the time were minimal desk space usage, loud undistorted sound output, and bass response. It excels at all three.Pros:* The two satellite speakers take a minimal amount of desk space* Touch-activated volume controls; you press the + and - controls simultaneously to mute* Each wire has a uniquely-shaped connector with matching receptacle on the sub-woofer which makes the hookup very simple* Sound output is simply amazing, very little adjustments needed to be made with the included Bass and Treble controls (the "spikes" on the sub-woofer)* ?ber-cool downward-facing green LEDs on the satellite speakers, leaves a nice green glow on your deskCons:* If the sub-woofer is underfoot, it is easy to bump and move the Bass and Treble controls accidentally* The power switch along with all of the connectors are on the back of the sub-woofer, which means if you want to turn the Creature off you need to have it plugged into a power strip or APC which is easily accessibleOverall, I don't regret the purchase and the speakers perform just as well today as they did when I first bought them. Well recommended.

Let's face it, if you're here with the intent to buy speakers, then just go ahead and hit that buy button. If the little icon of this system didn't turn you away, then nothing about these speakers will - their look is their most defining feature, and it is my opinion that their look is what you should base this purchase on. The snazzy little satellites are, ironically, small enough to hide behind your monitor if you want to (unlike those gaudy box speakers that most sound systems sport), despite the fact that anybody who gets them will make them the centerpiece of their desktop. The subwoofer is the same deal. It is about as small as woofers get, and it, too, will be a welcome addition to your desktop. You might have noticed that these come in no less than 4 different colors, and no less than 4 different prices, it seems. I'm fairly certain that they're all identical despite the price; I got the black ones and they mactch all of this product's descriptions to the letter. If you haven't seen all of the available colors yet, simply search for "JBL Creature 2" and all 4 of them will be on the front page, if not in the first listings. I believe they come in white, black, red(ish), and aluminum. And last but not least, who can forget the LED lighting on the satellites? They're a subtle addition, but a cool one none-the-less. Besides, they let you know whether the speaker is getting power (more on that later). But enough about their style! What about their sound?!?! Like I said above, their appearance is their most distinctive feature, which means that the sound they produce is just as good as the next brand. They "idle" silently (no subwoofer humming), and they produce very crisp and clear music. Their specifications state a weakness in the lower frequencies (bass), and it does show a little. Bass comes through as an empty "thump" with little body to it. It's hardly noticable, except in very bass-heavy songs. I'm most pleased with their high tones, though; acoustic music really shines on these speakers. All in all, I've noticed nothing about the sound that would make anybody regret purchasing these speakers.Next, we have the convience factor. First off, if you intend to turn the whole system on and off frequently, you might want to go to an Apple store and see if they have a floor model for you to try out. The on/off switch is located behind the subwoofer, and in between two jacks. Simply put, it's pretty difficult to get to, considering where they could have and should have put it. However, the system gives you no reason to want or need to turn it off, unless the LEDs get on your nerves while you're sleeping (they're almost certainly not that strong, though). The system comes together pretty easily - everything is color coded, and there are only 4 cords to deal with, anyways. The two speakers (to which their respective cords are permanently attached), the computer-in cord, and the power cord. There are no extras here, except for an adaptor that turns the computer-in to a stereo-in (so you can pipe your TV or reciever with an a/v out into the system). If you haven't guessed, the subwoofer acts as the hub - everything plugs into it. The one problem I had with assembly is that you have to properly align the cables or else they won't go in all the way. They have triangular inputs, and I had to try a number of times before the left speaker finally started working. Then there are the controls. You've got your bass and treble management," which do what they do. You can turn the bass down to the point at which it sounds like it's coming through a tin pipe, and you can turn the treble down to the point at which it sounds like it's coming through a mattress. They obviously can be risen to more sensible levels, and I'm pretty easily able to find a suitable level for them, though they may require adjustment from song to song. The touch-sensitive volume controls are fairly novel. There is a tone when you touch the volume buttons, but it isn't volume sensitive - it's just there to let you know that you are currently adjusting the volume. One shortcoming of this type of volume control is that you can't know what level your volume is at until you start listening, but it is one con I can certainly live with (and one I often have to live with with the other sound systems I deal with). They get plenty loud enough, and plenty quiet enough, and there's little distortion at either extreme. Plus, like another review has stated, they have very small increments in volume - you'll always find just the right level. All in all, this is a very desirable system if you like the way it looks. If you're looking for a stylish alternative to the run of the mill box speaker systems, and you think that these look good, then I strongly encourage you to look no further. These will not disappoint in the sound department unless you have a very discriminating ear (which you probably won't have unless you are downgradi

I bought these a few years ago and have barely used them. I'm really not sure why people are so impressed with the sound: my experience is it's tinny, and the lows overpower other sounds, even when I turn the bass all the way down. Other than some fairly powerful bass, the sound was really unsatisfying in general. I also recall that we had one of these at a place of employment and the left speaker broke after only a few months. One more thing: I paid exactly 50 dollars for these two years ago on Amazon, so I'm assuming the current price is either some kind of glitch or clerical error at Amazon, or that the current product description simply fails to include that the new models will be gold-plated. If you're even for a second thinking of paying the listed $300 price, stop! These were barely worth the 50 I paid.

I purchased a Mac in February 2005 and immediately decided that the internal speakers were not good enough. I purchased a Creatures II-white and loved the look. That snow-white color matched the Mac perfectly. The sound, though, was not very good. After 34 months, the subwoofer and the right speaker stopped working.I doubled the RAM, installed OS X-Leopard and additional software and now I am looking for a better speaker system. JBL has made the subwoofer and speakers so that they cannot be repaired. I was looking at Harmon/Kardon but this is the parent company of JBL. I cannot afford to replace speaker systems on a frequent basis. I checked out Logitech on another website and decided to buy Logitech Z-2300 somewhere else so I could return them within the stores policy and not have to mail them back to Amazon. Good thing I did this. The subwoofer and right speaker do not work! I wondered if changing OS from Panther to Leopard could be the cause. I checked my Mac's sound system. It works perfectly. I put the 2.1 speaker system from my Windows computer on the Mac and they work well.Logitech offers an e-mail customer support service as well as a (you pay for the toll) telephone support. I was in a hurry to use the speakers so, I sent an e-mail to China? or India? The woman who responded barely spoke English and, although I had repeatedly noted that I have a Mac running OS X-Leopard, she sent simplistic remedies for a Windows computer. She did not know that Systray (Systems Tray) is not a Mac feature. lol Her English was so poor that she assumed that I had installed a CD or downloaded driver software from the website. These speakers do not require any drivers, CDs, etc. Plug and Play. I later telephoned the other customer service and got a man who spoke American or Western Canadian English and actually knew how Macs work. He helped me determine that the subwoofer was defective. They go back tomorrow for a refund. No JBLs, Harmon/Kardons or Logitechs for me. Not much left unless I want to spend an awful lot of money. So, I have been looking here on Amazon hoping to find a better variety and good reviews. But, it looks as though a lot of people have liked the Creature IIs, especially the "look." Some reviewers noticed the mediocre sound but, I have not seen any long-term reviews pertaining to durability or customer support. So, here is my experience.Thank you and good luck.

Got these because my pretty excellent ten-year-old old Cambridge Soundwork speakers didn't like my new Mac -- they suddenly buzzed when not in use, five or so seconds after the music or video sound stopped. Tried grounding them, then LIFTING the ground with a two-prong adapter plug, plugging them into a different outlet, using a UPS; no dice. The JBL Creatures were cheaper than a decent noise eliminator like the Hum X, so I decided to give them a shot.Nice design, though I don't care for the downfiring LEDs on the satellite speakers -- why do so many consumer electronics attempt to emulate Christmas trees? I'm going to stick black tape over those LEDs.The sound is pretty good for such a low-priced speaker system, better than I would have expected. I've paid double and triple this much for a single audio cable so it's hard to go wrong with such a piddling expenditure. Still, in absolute terms, the Creatures are on the harsh and fatiguing side. They don't rock much, and I don't just mean in terms of loudness. They just don't seem to convey the rhythm and pace of the music. The notes are there, more or less, but the soul is sadly missing. The bass is a little aenemic and lacking tunefulness, and the 'subwoofer' that produces it has a crossover that is set high enough that the bass notes are easy to localize, even though JBL claims the bass is non-directional. This is disturbing when you put the bass unit on a different surface, maybe underneath your desk. It won't work properly there, at least not for me. So I stashed the unit behind my Mac screen, out of sight, in between the two satellites. Now it's tolerable.I don't expect high-end or even mid-end (?) performance from a speaker system that costs only as much as a few CDs, so in that sense, the Creatures are a bargain. And they perform more than adequately if you use them to squeeze a little more oomph out of a YouTube video, or if you listen to them playing music moderately softly, in the background. Just don't expect these mini-speakers to rock, or groove, or to fill your work space with above-average sound. With the Creatures, you get more than you pay for, but not enough to unleash your favorite music's emotional power.ADDENDUM, Nov. 13: They get better with break-in. After a couple of days they sounded slightly less constrained, more accurate, with better separation between voices and between instruments. The aural picture kept improving for a few weeks. It's still hardly a high-end rig, but for the ridiculously low price, the Creatures deliver much, much more than you have any right to expect. If Amazon would let me, I'd add a fourth star.

These speakers were great for one year and twelve days, and then they just died. No sound, just a slight squeak from the sub. Called the company, and from what I can tell this is a known issue. I paid altogether too much for a set of speakers that lasted for so little time, and my choices with them are limited. Frankly, I just tossed them and bought a less expensive system that I can live with if it dies. What makes this especially heinous at the personal level is that I had my previous speakers, a medium-expensive B.A. set that were ugly as sin for at least seven, and I think closer to ten, years. The Creature looked nice, didn't sound quite as good, and didn't last even close to as long.
