I think this printer is pretty good and I gave it four stars because I am slightly disappointed with a few of the features, but I am overlooking some of these because the printer is under 100 bucks, so I guess you get what you pay for! Just in case it helps you make your decision, here are some of the idiosyncrasies1. Your cd or dvd will need to dry for at least 24 hours after being printed before you are recommended to use it in a cd/dvd drive.2. You need to manually align the cd tray to these little arrows right before it prints. Why couldn't they just design it to let the user push the tray all the way in? The arrows aren't that easy to see.... and I just hate relying on my manual alignment skills :-(3. Turning the printer off will waste a lot of ink when you need to re-start it. The printer will "load" the print cartridges, which I think is Epson's term for "we want to get you to buy more ink so we can make a profit on this $99 printer."4. Photos aren't as true to photo quality as I get with my Canon MP730 - but this is ok for me since I bought the printer solely for its cd/dvd printing ability.Overall, this is a pretty good printer, but I would give it 5 stars if I wasn't annoyed by the above "features"Happy Shopping!

And labor is so expensive, most shops want $50 just to open it up! My Stylus 740 never had this problem, although the 740 is not a photo printer. At ~$200 it needs to perform better, longer.

I can't get this unit to print when used with a new Apple iMac with Intel chips. My old R200 will work, but can't get Epson menus for DVD/Photo printing choices. And, no choices for type of paper, quality of prints, etc.

I had to exchange my C86 w/Epson within 9 months. No matter what they had me do to try and 'fix' my problem, it still wouldn't print correctly. I've had the replacement for less than 6 months and the heads are clogged! On-line support sent me an email with a lot of instructions that I followed to the 'T', but the replacement printer doesn't print at all now. I threw away 4 good color/B&W cartridges (half-used) and put in new ones and it still doesn't print! I've paid for this printer about 5x's over now in ink $$$. I plan on using it as a dingy anchor ...

Mine died before it had gone through the first set of ink cartridges, which cost more than the printer.Another piece of junk from Epson.

I didn't have huge expectations from a printer that costs under $100, but what attracted me to the Epson R220 is the ability to print on DVDs and CDs. I had just bought a new DVD recorder to finally copy my old library of VHS tapes (which I throw away as soon as I make a copy). I wanted to get away from stick-on labels forever, they bubble and peel and in many case keep DVD players from even being able to play. So I saw the Epson R220 at OfficeMax with a $10 rebate and I already had one of those $10 coupons they mail you. Now I'm down to $80 for a 6-ink printer, so why not! I bought the printer almost 2 months ago and am pleasantly surprised that the ink tanks still show half full. And that's after printing quite a few 4 x 6 and 8 x 10 photos and even more DVD labels. The printer looks attractive and was easy to set up. This is my first Epson after many years of HP printers, and I wonder why I didn't make the switch long ago. The colors on high-quality paper are more accurate and more vibrant than HP and look more like real photographs. Although I originally purchased the printer only to do CD/DVD labels, I'm changing my mind now and am looking for someone to buy my much more expensive HP and I'll use the Epson for all my photo printing now. I can't imagine why anyone would want to pay more for a photo printer unless they are doing extremely demanding professional printing. To me, the Epson Stylus Photo R220 is the best bargain in the market.

We have two C86's (and a C66, which uses the same ink cartridges) in our real estate office. The older one has been in use 2-3 years. We've printed thousands of pages with no problems with any of them, except for the very occasional "bad cartridge". Perhaps the constant use explains the difference between my and the other reviewers' experiences with this model. I don't think the C86 is still manufactured but if I can, I'll replace two other office printers (Epson Color 880 and HP Deskjet 952c) just to simplify ink cartridge orders.

I've had the printer a little over 2 years now and have replaced all the ink cartridges at least 4 times (and I hardly ever print photos on this machine, just basic documents with a few color graphics here and there). It sucks ink like there's no tomorrow. I also just bought a brand new black ink cartridge because it told me I was out of ink-so I installed it, and now the black ink will not print at all! After reading other people's reviews, I'm guessing there is a clog somewhere that will cost me a fortune to repair. No thanks! What angers me most is now I'm stuck with a bum printer and a full black ink cartridge that I cannot return (there goes $40 down the drain!). My husband is an IT consultant and has already had 3 of his customers need to buy new printers because each owned a C84 and each one went bad in just over a year (just past the lousy 1 year warranty!) In other words, I will never buy an Epson again. I used to have an HP printer and it worked like a dog- and I had it for almost 7 years with no problems. If I were you, invest in ANY OTHER BRAND of printer, I know I will.

I use the R220 almost exclusively for printing onto DVD surfaces, and it does this job quite well. I don't use the included software, as it's unintuitive and clumsy to work with. Rather, I use a Photoshop template which gives me more control over the results.Regular paper prints are attractive and crisp.For the money and special ability, this is a hard printer to beat. Highly recommended!

These printers are a mixed bag basically. In their favour, the photographic printing is absolutely superb and is up there with the best. Replacement ink cartridges are easy to get hold of too, and because the printer is not very large, it does not take up a great deal of space on or near your desk top. The properties do contain a list of useful options to help you get the best quality print outs.However, paper loading can be unpredictable. Mostly it is ok but jams are more frequent than I would like. The auto self clean function comes on far too often though, and you have to wait a while for this to finish before you can use the printer. This function uses ink and if it is coming on too often, it is basically throwing ink away - annoying.I buy refilled cartridges and in doing so only pay a third of the price that you would pay for Epson originals. Ignore the warning signs that come on when you load these cartridges, they work perfectly well for only a third of the price. Epson simply want you to buy their own at inflated prices.In all honesty, to sum up this printer does a job but it could be better, of that there is no doubt.

This is my THIRD Epson printer that uses Dura-Brite ink. While it makes very nice images and photos, the ink apparently has a tendency to clog the print heads.My C86 replaced two slightly earlier models we had in our household at a good price as Epson wanted to keep us as customers. I got the 86 as a replacement in April - with a full set of cartridges. I haven't even had to replace the cartridges and the heads are clogged again - in August.Now I can't even get Epson on the phone - the line is constantly busy.It may be the ink; it may be the printer. Or both. Just don't.

Printer has the highest resolution specs out there, and among the smallest "droplet size" at 3 picoliters. (Canon I960 is 2 picoliters, but less than 4 picoliters is invisible to naked eye. A couple years ago, the smallest droplet size available at any price, including pro-level inkjets, was 4 picoliters...) Has Epson's patented, (arguabley) superior micropiezo (as opposed to thermal) technology and high quality nozzles built onto print-head, not cheaply built into ink cartridges, like other manufacturers. This model uses six individual ink tanks to more accurately produce gradients instead of the usual four colors - another feature, until recently, found only on higher end models that Epson pushed down into this consumer printer. Net-net? Absolutely amazing quality photos that rival or exceed far more expensive printers or "pro-level" technology that's a couple years old. All for a hundred bucks. I've made several side-by-side comparisons between photos from the R200 and the local photo lab. R200 wins, hands down, no question about it. Bye-bye photo lab.So as not to bastardize more expensive R300,R500 photo stylus line, Epson doesn't exactly tout R200's resolution. Note, resolution specs are not on the box of the R200, but are big and bold on the box for the other R-series models. The printers in the R-series are identical, except you must print from your PC with the R200, it doesn't connect direct to your digicam, or have media slots like the R300, 300M... If, like me, you tweak sharpness and adjust color levels - always, in a photo editor, before printing - you'll never use those features. Save your money; go with the R200.As an added bonus this printer has the ability to produce professional quality graphics and text directly onto printable CDRs. A terrific, distinguishing feature that works very well. Another distinguishing feature is its ability to print borderless on every available paper size... don't take this for granted. Not all printers are this versitile when it comes to borderless. I use this printer for text as well as photos, and its text looks perfectly fine to my eyes. Is it "the best" ink jet text out there? Probably not, but I'll trade that capability any day for its superior photo quality.Some pointers - to save on ink costs check out Abacus inks, and/or a software package called Ink Saver 2.0 (I would strongly recommended I.S. 2.0 to compensate for the R200's illegible text "draft" mode...) If you want to stick to Epson original inks, Altex (dot com) has the lowest price available.On a final point, the build quality of this printer appears MUCH better than the other manufacturers entry level models. This printer, based on its superior specs, versitility, build quality, and price point is a fantastic value. Epson outdid themselves by aggressively pushing the technology from their premium models into the entry level R200 and giving it capabilities - like direct CD printing, that other printers simply don't have. Epson, therefore, has managed to leap-frog the other manufacturers in a the very crowded field of capable sub-onehundred dollar inkjet printers.

I hate this printer so bad that I will NEVER buy an Epson printer again. I have had it for about three years, and should have taken it back in the beginning.If you put more than one sheet of paper in at a time, it almost always jams. So to print a 25 page report, I have to feed each paper through individualy. What a waste of time.The ink runs out way too quick. Ink heads need to be cleaned too often, wasting even more ink.I am just amazed at how badily engineered this printer is. I would have assumed that by the time this printer was made Epson would know more about making a reliable quality product. How hard is it to make a printer that doesn't jam almost every time you print more than a couple of pages?Can you tell that I am mad?

I would not have shelled out for this piece of junk if I knew it would stop working after the 1 year warranty expired.I just shelled out $80+ for new ink cartridges when I knew d*mn well the old ones were not empty in the hopes it would start working again. No luck... just blank page after blank page no matter how many times I clean the heads.Called Epson who told me there is nothing they can do for me. Totally useless.I learned my lesson, no more Epson products for me... ever. This is my first and last epson printer... err, blank page maker.

I would recommend this product to anyone I know. It does everything except make my coffee in the morning; and does it well. As a photographer, I see quality photos printed from this AIO machine. I stick with Epson paper and Epson Ink, and you could not tell my prints from a film developed photo.I have scanned old slides and negs, and the restoration quality of the printer was great. Yes, I have read about people buying this printer and having problems in certain areas, but you would have to pry mine out of my hands with a crow-bar.I must have got the best one, because it "WORKS GREAT"

I got this printer free with my last Mac, and it was no bargain. It takes an extraordinary amount of very expensive ink. I rarely print anything but have spent hundreds of dollars for cartridges just to print an occasional letter. Forget it. After this experience, I steer away from anything from Epson, even it is free.

My original printer failed after three months on light useage. Epson sent a "refurbished" one which died after 10 months of very little useage. Now I am one month over the one year warranty and I'm out of luck. And angry that I bought all new ink cartriges. If someone what to crank up a class action suit to get some justice, count me in. This is criminal! I'm going to send my worthless printer to the CEO and tell him where to plug it in.

I thought that Epson was pretty good in the beginning but it turned into a nightmare. I am experincing all the FUN cleaning and checking the nozzles/heads...still coming up with the same results...dark lines skipping across the page...funny how all this seemed to start after the warranty ran out...I thought my best friend was joking when she said that the customer service sucked...she tried to call for support...they wanted her to pay...then the support/contact is not toll free...and the WORST was that the help desk was not even in the country. Well I guess I gotta invest in a HP inkjet...didnt have as many problem with my first HP...so I think I'll go back to it. Step your game up EPSON.

Epson is facing a class action suit in LA Superior Court. Seriously, check it out. You may be due some money. I recently got notice of this by mail from a law firm. Good!! this product stinks! The civil suit revolves around fraudulant ink cartridge performance. Ive owned two of these turkeys. They do guzzle ink, half full cartridges "inform" the printer that they are dry, causing the printer to quit working until you replace the cartridge! If a color cartridge is sending an "empty" message, you cannot print a BLACK/WHITE document! It will not let you! Until you replace the color cartridge unnecessarily. Another beef, when printing a b/w photo, it uses some color ink for some reason, I often get a greenish black image! I called Epson help, and they were worthless. I finally got a decent b/w photo by setting the printer for mat paper while actually using glossy paper (Epson paper). Both printers had the same flaws! Don't waste your money on Epson.

The real problem with this printer is that if any of its four cartridges is out, it won't print at all. I most of the times use black ink and hardly do any color printing, but during the process of cleaning itself it consumes color cartridges. When any of the color cartridges is out, no more even black printing. So it is really bad. Pinting quality, however, is fine.

I had gotten this as a freebie when I bought my Mac computer. I used it maybe twice because I prefer HP. Well I had a project come up that I NEEDED to use it because of how it sheet feeds the paper from the top. When I did use it; it seemed to work pretty good- I was surprised.Then I hadn't used it for maybe 4-5 months and now it is not printing at all. I went though all the diagnostics such as print head cleaning etc and NOTHING! Seems when I started looking all over the Internet for answers what I kept finding is that so many others have experienced the same thing.This is CRAZY as I have only printed under 20 pages total on this printer.Seems these printers are a waste of money. I do not recommened this printer.

Today's date is Jun 7, 2006 but I will pretend I am writing this review in Jun 2007. If you read the reviews of any epson printer product made in the past 4 years you will know that they clog, so as I am writting this review in 2007 my once well rounded epson rx620 inks heads have clogged. I am out of the warranty period. I cannot find a 800 number for epson. They have told me that I need to run a head cleaning, so I go out and buy some inks for 60 dollars, then I run the cleaning and still nothing happens, the printer still prints out blank pages. They say to run it again and again which I do. They have told me I need to purchase a new one (they offer me a discount off 10 dollars of their latest one) or have this one repaired. PEOPLE..... DO NOT BUY EPSON PRINTERS learn your lesson!

I love the feature for printing CD/DVD's labels....it's not necessary to buy special discs...just put a blank label on your disc and it will printer it perfectly. Colors are beautiful and less costly since you only need to replace the colors as you use them. plus they last really long. Great little machine...............
