Out of the 4 of these that we bought ALL 4 DIED within a year. It seems once that jam 1 time, they always complain of no ink even when you put new ink in. I later read about a class action suit against them specific to this problem. We could have gotten some small $ back, but it wasn't worth it. We threw em away. Also, please ignore the 1 5 star review below this one. The guy can't even spell ca(r)tridge, and we WERE using only Epson cartridges. Everyone else's 1 star reviews are right-on.

I would strongly urge anybody that is considering an Epson printer to be cautious. Although I certainly do not EXPECT your experience to be the same as mine, as an active consumer I wish to convey my frustrations with Epson care/service/support.About two years back I had an Epson Stylus Inkjet (forget which model now) that failed while still under warranty. I mean, the printer FROZE my computer and there were HUNDREDS of crossed out (RED) printer icons all over my screen. Then I began getting code imposed over my desktop screen with words like "printer failed" in the message. Yes, at the time I had an Apple computer, but that's of lesser relevance...I called Epson, as my printer was still under warranty for about 8 more weeks. They said they recognized this sounded bad and wanted me to send the printer in (at my expense, start the tab running $). I did. On the same call, they said they could either send me a new printer, or I could- under THE CIRCUMSTANCES I had- go buy one from a local store to have immediately and they'd reimburse me. I opted to buy locally. I bought ANOTHER same model while mine was in transit to Epson (tab $ increase). Then came the true frustration. Epson spent NEARLY 3 months in "processing" my return authorization. They acknowledged they had received it. They would NOT reimburse me for a new one. They claimed that they needed to determine if my printer was failing due to defect or negligence (I included SCREEN SHOTS in the return box of nasty printer icons covering my frozen computer, how can that be negligence?).After many, many calls to Epson service, they continued to say they could not yet reimburse me. At one point, they even tried to say that I should NOT have bought one locally as their standard procedure would be to send a warranty replacement from their warehouse. On this point they quickly withdrew, since I had phone records of who I had talked to.Needless to say, after several months go by, I was told with finality that:"Epson would not repair nor replace my printer because it was no longer under warranty."Now, I had a relatively NEW printer from them (this one started having printer head alignment problems in the first few months) and they had held my returned inkjet printer from OVER A MONTH from BEFORE my warranty expired. Now, instead of being out only the original $250 for my original printer, I had patronized a company that had given me difficulty with ANOTHER $300, and also about $20 shipping, and about 50 hours of my time.I've had a Canon i950 6-color inkjet with borderless printing that I am extremely happy with since then. Cheers.

I got the Epson C84 with my Macintosh four years ago, and it was a pretty good printer. Then it stopped working. No ink comes out when it prints even though there is ink in the cartridges. I suspect it's clogged. Cleaning with alcohol did not help. And, I've always used Epson brand cartriges. I plan to replace it with an HP.

This is a piece of junk. I mostly only use the black ink however, I am forced to replace all my colours when each of the other ones dry up which is every couple months. The software prevents the user from printing, even if the image is all black and you tell it to use black ink only. I end up paying 5 times the price for black ink. I will never buy an epson printer again.

I work at a small ad agency in Indianapolis, IN. We bought this printer to print small runs of CD/DVD labels (10 or less). When Illustrator CS2 files or Photoshop files from Illustrator are imported into the Epson Print CD program, the colors are no where close to the original colors.Over the past 2 weeks, the Epson R220 my company bought has worked intermittently. I called Epson and their technical support said that they would only support the printing of CD labels from their vastly limited and color distorting printing program, Epson Print CD. I know this $100 printer is for greeting cards and a CD of pictures of your family, but printing exactly what is on the screen is awful! YOU SHOULD STILL BUY THIS PRINTER THOUGH, if you can follow the instructions below, it will print everytime.>>Printing Instructions in IllustratorThe secret to making the printer work everytime from Illustrator is to reset the paper size in the Print dialog( Apple OS X). To do this (and you'll need to do this everytime you print), deselect Size: "Defined by Driver" in the print dialog (File>>Print...) to another setting like "US Letter." Then, close the print dialog. Re-open it and select Printer...>>Printer Settings>>Media Type: CD/DVD from the drop down menu. I recommend saving the Media Type as an OS X printing preset (Printer...>>Presets>>Save).One other necessary piece of information: the front CD tray must be open before the file is sent to the printer. Otherwise, the file will just be printed from the regular paper tray on letter size paper.>>Color SettingsThe color printed will not match those on the screen either (at least in CMYK). The closest Color Setting (Edit>>Color Setting...) that I have seen to the monitor's color is "North American General Purpose 2." I believe this is the default for Illustrator CS2 on install.I hope this helps. It took over five hours to narrow this down and gather this information. Thanks a lot, Epson. . .>>Sample FileI setup my own template to print directly from Illustrator. The actual offsets are 0.661 in (X) and 0.3621 in (Y) from the left top of a US Letter size page. For the Illustrator template and more information visit by blog:http://designwell.blogspot.com/2006/02/epson-r220-cd-label-printing-in.html

I needed a a color photo printer that would function well on a number of types of media. Mostly I print on premium quality glossy photo paper. I strongly recommend Epson paper to keep total compatability with the Epson inks. 8x10 and 4x6 are my two formats. Both sizes come out very nice. I am careful to adjust printer settings for the paper I'm using and have no problems. Straight forward set up utilities. I would also recommend using Epson inks rather than an aftermarket brand. Just believe you should stick with the manufacturers supplies. I also print on matt finish papers and heavy weight inkjet paper. Both with great results. I would never put plain copy paper thru this machine. You would get an image but the quality would be junk and not because of the printer rather the paper.I don't print straight from the memory card but my brother has this printer and does this all the time with excellent results. All my work is edited in Photoshop before printing. He does too but will print off the card before editing just to see the basic photos in 4x6. He says it simply spits out great little photos with no trouble at all.I have not tried to burn a CD on this machine. Don't understand why you would but the utility is there.I strongly recommend this printer as an economical, good quality home photo printer.

This printer is now discontinued. I note that it still shows up for sale (both new and used), so I decided it's still worth mentioning (and warning). I bought this at a show where the dealer was printing a continuous photo-paper roll of on-the-spot shapshots of customers. What a great demo! The problem is, that's about ALL you can do. If you happen to print nothing for a couple of days, one or more printhead colors clog up and require multiple "cleaning cycles" to restore. It is no exaggeration to say that I've expended far more ink in getting ready to print than in actual printing! Given the cost of the color cartridge, it is a really expensive printer to operate. If you print both B&W and color EVERY DAY, it might(?) be okay; but it's definitely not a purchase I would repeat.

This printer (and several others in the stylus photo series) uses a water soluble ink that Epson calls "Dye Based". It will run if it gets moist. It only prints permanent photos on Epson glossy photo paper, and they don't even last that many years. If you are using this printer for graphics as well as photos, please be warned that the ink is horribly water soluble on any paper. Do not use this printer with the Epson Semigloss (the worst) photo paper or the image will be damaged by moisture. They specially coat the Premium Glossy Paper so that you will have a water fast image after it's dry. So if you want matte or semigloss or other paper - forget this printer. Perhaps you noticed the CD/DVD printer tray. That is a very nice addition. But the aforementioned Dye Based Ink problem is evident on the printed disks also. The R220 will print on printable CD media, and you can touch the image after it is dry. But it is extremely important that you never let the cd come in contact with moisture. The printed image will smear, run, etc and be ruined. I talked to Epson Customer Service/Tech support a couple of times. The first time I had a very knowledgeable rep on the phone who suggested different Epson printers with a different kind of ink. The R800 and 1800 have an ink called "chrome" and also print CDs. The benefits of the R800 and 1800 is that they print with a permanent ink. Water will not affect it. The lifespan of the photos is over 100 years. And they print CDs. They cost more though.Bottom line: Stay away from the Epson Dye Based Inks, and all the stylus photo series that use them.

Burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me. My first Epson printer clogged all the time. After a few years went by I made the foolish choice to give them another chance and bought the R220. The prints were fine but I found out the hard way that the printer disables itself when it determines one of the cartidges is low. So even if I wanted to just print B@W it won't do it. Unfortunately I found out about the class action lawsuit after the deadline and so can't even get the chintzy $40 "coupon". Now I'll just buy the cheapest compatible inks I can find, use it until it clogs beyond repair, throw it in the trash and never, ever buy another Epson product for ther est of my life.

This inexpensive printer does a nice job of printing photos and on CDs. My complaint with Epson printers is with their "intelligent" chip embedded ink cartridges that monitor ink usage based on page yeilds rather than true ink volume. In short, this means the cartridge will show the same usage of ink whether you are printing pages and photos in draft mode or in high quality mode. The printer software stops the printer from printing if one of the six color cartridges is percieved as "close to empty". Epson engineered it this way to ensure that the ink doesn't run out and causes a clogged printerhead. The problem is that I'm constantly replacing ink cartridges that still have about 25 percent ink remaining. I know because I have opened the spent cartridges and have measured the remaining ink. Also, you cannot refill the cartridges with after-market ink because the chip in each catridge renders it "empty" even if you refill it. This ink cartridge design has caused a class action suit to be brought against Epson. Do a Google search and you'll find the website. In fairness to Epson I must state this printer does a nice job printing photos and onto CDs which is a nice feature. If ink costs aren't a problem (about $60 for a complete 6 color set) than get this printer. In the meantime, I'm steering clear of future Epson printers until they re-engineer the ink cartridges to reflect the true ink volume usage.

First off, this printer is targeted at a specific type of use. It is a photo printer, and it produces excellent photos and does real well printing CDs. But it is not a 'bulk job' printer. It is a 'home' printer for casual use, not an office workhorse.I have had this printer for a while, and printed quite a bunch of photos (primarily 4x6 borderless), quite a number of DVDs, and various other things: directions, invoices, letters, etc. After four months of use, only light magenta is nearly empty. For ink, check Newegg - They got R300 compatible WellPrint cartridges for $5 each as opposed to Epson's $10+. A full set of 6 cartridges is $20. I cannot vouch for them myself(yet), but others left positive reviews.Photo prints are nothing short of amazing. Using premium Epson 4x6 borderless, pictures come out vibrant, with no sign of smearing at edges or anywhere. I had no problem with feeding photo paper with several sheets loaded at once.CD/DVD printing CAN be a little finicky. You gotta set that tray real carefully, make sure to match the arrows, and leave ample free space behind the printer. Be careful with the tray itself - the thin transparent plastic stip on feeding edge is easily damaged, and that may affect the printing. I use Memorex printable DVDs, and usually leave them overnight to dry after printing. The quality is very good, and I experienced no smearing of any kind. The included Epson PrintCD software aligns the print well, though as a design tool, it's weak. I usually design the label in Photoshop.I tried out the printer's PC-less features. Directly off a card, it was real hard to pick out the needed pictures, you had to go by numbers, and they seemed to be numbered differently than in my camera. I'd say if you are planning to use this printer that way, get the R320 instead, with its preview color LCD. I did not try connecting the camera via USB and printing off it yet. Still, this is of no concern to me, as I rarely print anything before touching it up in Photoshop anyway. I would get the R200 which is same printer but without 'PC-less' features - but at the point of purchase, R300 had a rebate that actually made it cost less than R200.A friend of mine also bought this printer on my recommendation, and he is also very happy with it.

This printer has been a huge disappointment from the moment I got it. Luckily I got it for free as a bundle with a digital camera. First, takes a LONG time to actually begin to print a document, even with just normal text. Second, it easily gets clogged print head nozzles, and you use lots of ink cleaning them. There is no other option, however. It also says you are out of black ink, and won't print when you have just replaced the black ink, brand new cartridge. You end up thinking you got a bad cartridge, and replacing it again, only to find still same problem printing. Clean print head nozzles again, still no success. So...junk, junk, junk! Very expensive to keep trying to fix it. After having these problems, I read other user reviews. Evidently this is a universal problem, not just with mine. Mine lasted only 1 year, as did others who bought same printer. Do not buy this product!

When you're planning to print directly onto DVD/CD, open the cover and watch where you're pushing that DVD/CD tray into. There's this very fragile and thin piece of clear plastic at the leading end of the DVD/CD tray. If you insert the tray all the way to where the arrow is, the clear plastic actually sit completely under the roller. If you are not careful, over time you might bend or damage the clear plastic. This might the the cause of jam or error message (not totally sure). Watch where you're pushing that tray into after you loaded you DVD/CD. It might help if you leave your upward slightly before you push in. You definitely don't want to push the tray downward before pushing in, you will push that fragile clear plastic right into the roller. Hopefully, the DVD/CD tray will last long if you're careful. After reading other reviews. I think Epson probably holding the license for printing directly onto DVD/CD in US. The reason I say that because Canon have this feature disable on US model which is enable in Europe or in Asia. I don't know about HP, but I assume the same.

Do not buy this printer. This printer is just what you want if you like to have junk sitting on your shelf. Today I was printing envelopes. Out of 97 envelopes, 46 had sections with blank patches. I might as well do it all by hand. This printer would have been pretty good back in 1900. It double feeds paper all the time. If you try to print front and back--have fun. It might take you 1hr for 20 sheets and 5 wasted pages. No good. Oh and by the way this printer is sloooooooooooooooooooooooww like very, very slow. A Canon may drink ink, but this printer is worse. I bought this over a month ago and haven't used it too much. Just had to change out the black ink tank. My Canon which I sadly got rid of after 3 yrs would go through a tank every 2 months, maybe and that was with constant use. My Canon was getting old and the Photo quality was deteriorating some so I got this epson. I was looking for something that would print better pictures and save on ink. It isn't even worth printing pictures with. The pictures take about a day to dry and the quality isn't near good.NEVER BUY AN EPSON

I purchased this printer from Amazon on March 29, 2005. I used it mainly to print recipes from Microsoft Word. I rarely print photos. I'd guess that I print, on average, about 20 pages per month tops. The printer is not heavily used.Anyway, the black ink cartridge was getting low and the printer allows you to continue printing until the ink cartridge "runs out" when it then prevents you from printing anything (as a side note, I put the words "runs out" in quotes because Epson has now settled a class-action lawsuit that claims the printer prevents you from printing anything when there is sufficient ink in the cartridges). While there was still ink in my black cartridge, it just stopped printing. It would act like it was printing, but no ink would appear on the page.I couldn't clean the print heads. The printer wouldn't allow me to since it claimed the ink level was getting low.I replaced all the ink cartridges (very expensive... about $70) only to find the printer still wouldn't print anything even after cleaning the print heads many times (each time uses up A LOT of expensive ink). I called Epson Support (sounds like it's been outsourced to India) and was told that they will charge me $9.95 for help since the printer is no longer under warrantee. I refused the help.I then googled "C86 printer stopped printing", etc., and found that TONS of people have this same problem. If the printer is under warrantee, Epson typically replaces it. If it's not under warrantee, they tell you that it's time to buy a new printer. The biggest problem I've found is this is a "throwaway product" that isn't designed to last. MANY people have reported that the product lasts only about as long as the warrantee does.

Yes, agreed the epson produces a lovely print when it works. Unfortunately for me, as a relatively infrequent user, the printer decided to give up when the cartridges dried and I ignored it for a couple of months - clog. Now I am left with a printer that has produced no more than 300 pages, a set of new cartridges worth as much as the printer itself and a red flashing light that continues to declare that the ink is low. What an absolute waste of money!! I will be going back to Canon or HP.

There is an 8x10 photo on my fridgefrom my youngest daughters anemic 1MP el cheapo camera printed on TYPING paper! It's framable and perfect. (Her choice of subject matter is silly, however) I use this printer to make copies of my artwork to show to galleries...it's that accurate.Yes, all the negative reviews.....here's some advice...Ever forget to clean a paint brush or roller and left it out over night? May as well paint with a rock, right???Regardless of the brand or model you purchase the nozzles willbegin to dry out the instant they stop spraying. I clean thembefore each use. Very simple...page 83...clean the head and then the nozzles. Use typing paper to run your check pattern. Save the paper for future checks. And look at it!!!! If it's been a week or more since you did any printing you may have to clean it twice. Takes minutes and assures things are ready to go before you put a sheet of the expensive glossy photo paper in.I'm getting a second 925 for my oldest daughter as a birthday gift. That says it all.

When I tried to copy something on this printer, say it was a black and white image with a lot of plain paper around it, the printer would print the image fine but would also spend a lot of time printing a slight tone behind it of the 'paper color'. This seemed like a big waste of time and ink so I called epson ( and i must say that they have a pretty good tech support) and they said that this was a hardware problem and they sent me a new one. I recieved the new one and it wouldn't print at all and made a horrible noise when I tried to do a head cleaning. So now am sending this one back too....Its too bad, it seems like a nice printer otherwise!

I use this junk printer at work to print out DVD labels and cases. Using printable DVDrs, this printer is great, the colors are pretty accurate to the original, and the DVDR looks professional. But, my DVD tray on the printer doesn't work well, so you have to push the DVD into the printer EVERY time you want to print. It gets annoying, but you had to do it manually anyways. My main problem with this printer is the paper jams. I have to make a lot of CD cases (50+), so having this printer jam on every sheet of paper wastes a lot of my time and money. Instead of letting the printer print out all of my CD case labels overnight, I have to manually feed the paper into the printer, and even then that is a challenge! It takes 2-10 tries to get the paper into the printer, multiply that by 2 (I have to print the backside of the case too), and it leads to headaches. Also, this printer consumes so much ink, it's not funny. I have twelve cartridges lying next to me after 5 months of working here, and I only printed around 100-120 CDs and CD case labels.

I purchased this printer to replace my HP All-In-One PSC950 Printer, which is now outdated, and I needed something to print nice photos out from my Sony PSC-150 Camera. The maximum resolution on the HP was 2400x1200 when the option was selected, this returned pleaseing results on my Photos, but were not borderless. So when I print photos out on this Epson, the Page is borderless and is proffesional looking. However, one thing is that the colour and contrast were less accurate than when I had printed from the HP. The HP would return the image exactly on the Computer monitor just slightly lower in resolution. The Epson, doesn't in my opinion. For instance, I printed a photo out where there was a white wall in the background. With all the Epson's ink tanks full, the output resulted in a greenish blue wall and was very unsatisfying. Also, skin tones are resulting too dark and are not satisfying me. On photo qualit, I give this a rateing of 3/5, when against the HP, 4/5 I think. When you talk about features now, the HP is blown away. The Epson offers a cool CD/DVD tray which means you can print directly on the disk without the hassle of makeing cheap labels. It is easy to install, but is a bit flimsy. The front panel of the printer offers a photo card reader which is easily read on the computer via a drive letter...eg. Drive F:. Also, what was convenient for me was that the Sony DSC P150 featured PictBridge, where you can print the photos directly from the camera to the printer when connected to the printer's front USB port. I think that the visual appeal of this printer has no other competition except for the Canon's Pixmania. It is a tinted grey and black printer.....very stylish too.The last thing to review is the software bundle. Epson includes the printer driver on the CD it includes as well as some jam-packed getting started software. It will also install help guides which are convenient for those who need help with troubleshooting their new printer. Epson PhotoQuicker is the photo-editing software included which is a good basix starter for the amatuer enthusiast photographer. To assist you with CD Printing, Epson has included a good piece of software called Print CD so you can print designs via it's CD-Tray. Good for those who are sick of useing CD labels, and those musicians who want to design a cool band CD cover. In conclusion, this printer's features makes it a definite buy compared to my HP. I am very happy for the creative possiblities this printer contains. Whether you are a profesional or an amatuer photo printer, or just a typical person wanting descent photos, the price of this printer for the performance is best for your buck!Overall Score :Quality : 4/5Features : 5/5Value : 9/10
