Looks right, appears right w/those telling "ballons" on the package -- and you'll probably check and determine that it will work with your EPSON CX5400. I did. And I was wrong. NOT COMPATIBLE!!!

The dreaded nozzle clog has hit me - no matter how much I clean the head and whether the ink cartridges are new or not, the printer will not print correctly. It used to print great color and worked well without any paper jams. I used cheap replacement ink and although it protested by telling me it was non-genuine epson ink, it still worked ok. The CD tray was problematic from the start and I think it's a common theme among most users of this model. SO, if you're looking at this model as a used unit, be very wary about the remaining life on these printers. I've been reading horror stories about Epson's attempts to get you to buy their ink so also be aware of that issue also.

I don't know that I have ever printed a really nice photo with this printer. The ink heads clog religiously. The printing is never true to the image on the screen, it seems like the printer software over compensates something, I always have to overexpose the image to get it to print somewhat close to what it should look like. I'm about ready to throw the dang thing out the window, shame on Epson for making such a poor printer. If you set the printer to print on glossy photo paper, it prints almost black, the ink density is so high.

This is the *best* printer I have ever owned and I am a professional marketing specialist, amateur photographer, and business owner. The color quality is amazing for an inkjet, period end of sentence. I have never had any clogging problems, the slots and USB are so easy to use and so accessible, the menu and how to work the printer is easy to learn and the color LCD screen is awesome. The scanner works better than any scanner I have ever owned, the range of papers you can print on is excellent, and it blows any HP (of which I have owned many) out of the water.I can't say enough about what a great buy I feel this was for my business. I liked it so much I purchased one for home use as well. Here is some information I feel is important to remember and consider when thinking about purchasing this printer.First off, this is an all-in-one machine, and while it is listed as a photo all-in-one, it was not built to be the best photo printer out there. If that is what you are looking for, you should consider a stand alone photo printer, not an all-in-one. For an all-in-one, however, there is no question in my mind that this is the best, well rounded all-in-one on the market and the best printer I have ever owned actually. Before now, all my other printers were HP and there have been a lot of them ranging in model and price. Moving to a new company was scary, but I am so happy I took the leap! The 6 jets, in my opinion, make such a big difference, I can't imagine what the 8-jet models are like...Now about ink... Epson tries to get you to replace the cartridges WAY too early, those sneaky big business people! But I was confused by the information I read in the manual that indicates the printer will stop working and force you to replace the cartridge at some point. The 3 RX620 machines that I have availability to do not do this, while it bugs you and tries to tell you the ink is low or needs replacing, it will keep printing if I keep asking it to, even if I take the cartridge out and then decide it's not empty and put it back in. So, I called Epson directly about this to find out whether I happened to luck out and get the secret research cartridges that *never* run out that were supposed to be kept under lock and key and the big men in black suits would be visiting shortly to "get them back" or what... Well fortunately, it was just a big misunderstanding..... The printer will not allow you to print without a cartridge *in* all the cartridge slots, but the printer does not suddenly decide one day to tell you the cartridge has no more ink in it and stop on it's own if there is a cartridge in the slot that the printer has been saying is low. As long as you keep the cartridge in there, it will keep printing until you decide to replace it.Epson will further try to tell you that leaving a cartridge in the machine that they are reporting as low can clog the print heads... Well, my cartridge has been in there for a long while, with long bouts of not printing on top of it and never have I had a clog, a blob or so much as a pixel of ink out of place. I believe that is just another way they try to get you scared to replace the cartridges more often than you need to but what do I know...I have printed SO SO many more pages on what they consider to be a low or empty cartridge it is, well, comical in a way, at least in my opinion it is. I have been laughing at the warning on my home machine now for about 70 to 80 more prints, some high quality photos and some just plain printed pages but it is still going even though it says the black cartridge is completely empty. But boy, the amount of text pages I have printed out of that 'empty' cartridge is amazing hehehe. And, the amount of best quality photo prints I have done on that cartridge also makes me think Epson really needs to re-evaluate this issue and allow the user to keep using the cartridge until it is actually out of ink. All this is doing is giving them a bad name and irritating people. I think enough people learn to keep printing so they can't be making a lot of money off this... At least I hope people figure it out.....As for the cost of the ink, ink is expensive, so is HP ink. Some HP cartridges are more expensive than these. So, Epson is not alone in trying to rip-off the public when it comes to ink cartridges, that is for sure...I found the documentation that comes with the software you install very helpful and concise. My friend, who is included in the group of 3 Epson RX620's I have access to, happens to be a Mac user. She didn't like the fact that the documentation isn't as concise for the Mac and treats Mac users as an afterthought. This is definitely something they need to improve on. However, she added that if you spend some time reading the pc information and looking at the Smart Panel LCD, it functions the same, you just need to put aside that you are using the printer on a Mac and ignore the windows specific information. So, in short, for an all-in-one this inkjet

I will seriously reconsider ordering anything online again. The only reason I put a star in the rating was to be able to submit this review. How can I rate a product when I never received it?

Plus I have always had that misalightment, thing and head clean problem. Personally I have decided to go with Canon, this time. Since they are more heavy duty, and their ink do last.

DO NOT BUY EPSON PHOTO R220!! PLEASE READ ALL Reasons:1. Approx in one year a window will pop up & message will "EXACTLY" state, "Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer documents". After this window keeps popping up EVERY time you print, approx 2 weeks after your printer will COMPLETELY shut down forcing you to repair/replace the ink waste pads. This can not be done by the consumer, it must be sent in for repair & costs the same as a new printer. You have no choice but to send it for repair or buy a new printer. This only proves that the printer is programmed to shut down for unnecessary repairs. How can any machine know what part to replace & when it is going to wear out unless it has been programmed??!! This is an illegal scam & Epson is begging for ANOTHER class action law suit.2. Each time you turn the R220 off it resets the ink cartridges & goes through an unnecessary cleaning cycle, wasting all your ink. I have noticed that ink levels disappear quickly & even the ones that are not being used, the micro chip attached to each cartridge has to be programmed otherwise why would the levels indicate they are low when ink is not used. I replaced a cartridge that the printer said was out of ink. I opened up the supposedly empty ink cartridge & it was almost 80% full!! I could not believe it, Epson was sued for this same incident on previous printers. Another tip off that they are programmed is that if you install a non Epson ink cartridge a window will pop up saying that, "you are not using an official Epson product, do you wish to continue with ink replacement"? This is not word for word but it is exactly the same message that you get from it. I would of typed exact message but i no longer have this inferior printer.3. If one of your ink cartridges is out, it locks up, forcing you to install a new ink cartridge for further use.4. The colors on your monitor are not what this printer prints. You get variations & some are so bad that it can effect the beauty of your photo.5. The ink that this printer uses is horrible, if ANY moisture comes in contact with printed media from the R220, it WILL run, smear, smudge, etc. Horrible & the ink cartridges are VERY EXPENSIVE!! Approx 70.00 to 80.00 dollars.6. The CD/DVD print tray is so defective in it's style that i can not believe this unit has not been recalled. More than 80% of the time it will not print because of alignment issues. It has to be almost 100% MANUALLY aligned for it to print on CD/DVD media. There is no escaping this, it has to be MANUALLY set.7. Printer has a paper feed problem, it takes standard paper fine but, try loading in a heavy card stock or photo paper & it WILL NOT catch it. It REFUSES to take the heavy weight paper. It SOMETIMES will take it if you feed it in sheet by sheet. A defect that needs to be fixed!!I could go on about this printer but i am getting angry at this point with recollections of the agony i went through with this printer. DO NOT BUY EPSON PRODUCTS, they are inferior & PROGRAMMED to fail for unnecssary repair. I've had this printer for two years, and mine has printed literally thousands of CDs and DVDs (somewhere around 5000 by my estimate). In its price range, this is simply the best disc printer available -- by far. It also does great on glossy and heavy matte paper of all brands. But printing on this machine is not effortless. It has many quirks which can sabotage your efforts unless you make accommodations. It's important to learn how the machine works first, and do so with great care because a mistake can render it useless (I speak from experience). The results are worth it.This printer requires a great deal of TLC, plus genuine Epson inks (which cost more than off brands), and some patience. Many of the negative reviews here describe symptoms which I have experienced, but which can be avoided by just being careful. Of course, a printer probably shouldn't require that of the users, but the results are truly spectacular if you play along. Most of the problems can be attributed to genuine design flaws -- some of them quite small but with great consequences. For example, there is a little arrow on the printer which is used to align the disc tray before printing. It matches up with a printed arrow on the disc tray itself. But the arrow on the printer is simply an area of indented plastic, making it almost invisible. When you get this printer, the first thing to do is make that arrow visible by putting a piece of tape or something on it.If you don't make the alignment arrow visible, you will inevitably push the disc tray in too far and expose another regrettable design flaw: the disc tray has a clear plastic leader which helps it find it's path inside the printer. But if this leader gets bent (which it will if it gets pushed in too far), the tray will not go in and out. Instead it will jam every time. Once that strip of plastic is broken or bent, the disc tray must be replaced (I bought mine for $5 from a part supplier recommended by Epson, but it was a hassle). Also, the plastic can get bent if the disc tray is not inserted exactly level with the slot. If you angle it a little bit up or down, the plastic lip will get caught and shred. Again, you'll need another disc tray if this happens.Next, the tray movement in and out is not always smooth. On mine, once the tray starts moving in, it stops at a point and I must give it a gentle push or it won't go in. Likewise, when the disc is done printing, the tray stalls before it is completely ejected.Neither of these things would be a big problem except that the printer kind of freaks out if it happens. Resetting it requires removing the tray, pressing the middle button, and waiting for it to go through a reset cycle before reinserting the tray. This reveals another design flaw: if you do not wait for the reset cycle to complete, the disc tray can sometimes be drawn in and all the way through the printer, smashing it against the wall behind the printer (be sure you allow at least 8 inches between the back of this printer and the wall). Again, if that happens, your disc tray is ruined and must be replaced. The reset cycle happens periodically, sometimes in the middle of a print job. When it happens, everything must stop, the disc tray must be removed, and you simply must wait until it's complete (2-3 minutes). I don't know why it does this, but it happens without warning and it can be quite frustrating if you're not expecting it.A couple of other small things: If the disc insertion slot is down when the printer is first turned on, it will not go through its warm-up cycle. Instead it flashes frantically until you put up the tray intake. Not very intuitive, to be sure. If the printer has been turned on but not used for quite a while, it will initially reject the disc tray and try to do a warm-up cycle. It's confusing and unexpected (it doesn't happen every time). Also, if a print job fails or is cancelled, it can take up to 5 minutes for the printer to reset. During this time, nothing appears to be happening, and you'll wonder if the command got sent. So you'll turn off the printer and turn it on again, and discover that the print job is still there and it starts printing. If on the other hand, you simply wait, eventually the printer will reset. Finally, the printer will not print at all if even one of the ink cartridges is empty. This is annoying and inexcusable, and could probably be fixed with a simple driver update. As it is, always make sure you have a spare set of cartridges on hand.Using non-Epson inks will lead to blotchiness and ultimately clogging of the nozzles. Also, sometimes they come up as empty when they are new. It's tempting because of the price, but don't do it. You will regret it.And you must be aware that the cleaning routine uses A LOT of ink. If you start with completely full cartridges and do just one cleaning cycle, you'll see the inks drop to about 85%. That's really unacceptable, but not a problem if you realize that the cleaning cycle is hardly ever ne

I have used this printer off and on for about 5 years. Overall Epson gets 5 starts for print quality and -2 stars for excessive ink consumption and costs and -2 for clogging and -2 for ink waste, which is well into the negative numbers. Unfortunately, nobody is much better and this entire industry is corrupt. For the R300:Constant paper feed problemsBanding due to cloggingFrequent clogging that causes massive ink waste during cleaningCan't print black any colour emptyCDs actually printed fine for me.Digital photography has come a long way and earned a place in everyone's home. Photo printers are still in a greedy stone age.I have no confidence in this industry and won't be buying again. I just won't print anymore. It may be cheaper in the long run to buy some decent LCDs for your home and use them as frames since 2 full cartridge replacements cost the same as a 17" LCD without the hassle.

Knowing what I know now, that is, that Epson Ink does not last very long, I would NOT have purchased this printer. In attempting to correct gaps in printing, it is suggested one use the nozzle head cleaning. I have done this several times, and to no avail. Meanwhile, it is using a ton of ink to clean, and pretty soon I will need to buy even more ink. Forget it. With the prices of ink for this printer at a high price, I would suggest finding a better solution to your printing needs! Epson (online troubleshooting) suggests I purchase new ink cartridges since it has taken more than four tries and the problem still occurs. There is still ink in there. What a waste!

The Epson RX620 is a great printer. I learned my lesson by not doing thorough research before I bought my last printer (a Brother AIO). After my last printer failed to perform like I expected, I did a lot of online research and review of comments left by others before I purchased the Epson RX620. After careful consideration, I bought and tried this printer. In a word, it's great.Print Quality: The print quality is terrific; including both text and photo print quality. I compared some older photos printed off an HP to the same photo printed on the Epson RX620 and I couldn't believe the difference. The photos printed on my old HP looked "smoky" and dull compared to the Epson. The same exact photo on the Epson came out crystal clear, bright and vivid. I tested several text documents because I read from some others that the text quality wasn't as good, but I found that the quality of text documents to be excellent as well. I printed on plain paper and inkjet papers. Naturally, the better quality paper resulted in better quality prints, but overall the Epson RX620 has excellent print quality.Print Speed: The printer produces vivid photos in the "normal" mode quickly. This printer works much faster than my older HP printer or my newer (and very sluggish) Brother. Even when printing using the maximum "Best Photo" quality selection, large photos only took a minute to print. For a single 4 x 6 photo printed on my old HP or Brother, I could print 3 or 4 on the Epson in the same time. While all inkjet printers are somewhat slow when printing photos set on "high resolution", the Epson is fairly swift. Black text prints dark, solid and crisp, showing no bleeding or "feathered" edges on resume quality or inkjet papers. Plain paper (cheap photo copier paper) did show some signs of bleeding, but nothing more than any other printer on the market. Again, use better quality paper and get better quality results.Features: The machine is very easy to set up and use. Within a few minutes of opening the box, I was up and running. The large full color LCD screen on the front of the printer offers the various print/scan/copy options that are easy to understand and select. The scan quality is sharp and is easy to do. You can scan to your computer or directly to a flash memory card. Also, you don't even need to turn on the computer to print photos. Insert your camera's card and print directly from the printer. I was surprised to see in the specifications that this printer also scans 35M negatives and slides. I assumed that the quality wouldn't be a good as with a digital image, but was I wrong! I took some old negatives from a 1980's family reunion and put them into the negative scanner and all I can say is WOW! The images were clean, sharp and vivid. In some cases, the prints off the Epson actually looked better than the Kodak prints I got from the drugstore back in the 1980's! This machine is actually a full featured photo lab. I did find that using the included software to scan and save your prints from negatives worked better than just using the printer as a stand alone. The prints coming off of negatives without using your PC and the included software looked a little grainy, but I didn't print them on "best quality" so I'll have to test that again. The software is simple to use as well. A few clicks and I was scanning negatives. The system automatically brings scanned negatives up on the screen for you to manipulate and are filed in the "My Photos" file so there is no searching for images on your PC!Ink: The printer uses 5 ink tanks. Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, plus Light Magenta and Light Cyan (for photos). Each ink cartridge is separate, so when you run out of yellow, you replace only the yellow cartridge. Cartridges run around 12 to 16 dollars a piece, but again, because you only replace the color that has run out, you don't waste ink like you do with the tri-color cartridges such as with Lexmark and HP. The Epson ink cartridges each have a smart chip that tells the printer that the ink tank is empty. The drawback of this is of course, that you cannot just refill the tank with a needle and generic ink and then pop the cartridge back into the printer. If you plan to refill the ink cartridges yourself, you'll need to buy a kit with a separate "chip resetter" to reset the smart chip each time you refill it. You can find these online when you do a search for "Epson RX620 ink". Generics ink cartridges are available for around 3 to 5 dollars per color, but I haven't tested the print quality with generic ink so I can't really comment on that just yet. Of course, Epson advises against refilling the ink cartridges or using generics. Naturally, they want you to buy their ink. Genuine Epson ink however is top quality and it didn't run when I poured some water on a sample print. The Bad: There isn't really anything bad that I can point out, except that this printer isn't really a true "a

I bought this printer with the idea in mind that the separate ink cartridges would save me money on ink. The cartridges were only $9.99 at Fry's when I bought the printer, but they have gone up to $12.99 since. I reasoned that if one color ran out, I wouldn't have to throw away a lot of ink, especially since I print mainly with black ink.Instead of meeting my expectations, however, I discovered that my color cartridges registered lower and lower despite the fact I was using only black ink and using the "only black ink" setting in the print setup, which, by the way, you have to manually reset each time you start to print. Therefore, I was using more ink and spending more money than ever before. I tried getting iso replacement cartridges, but the computer detected that the cartridges were not genuine Epson cartridges and refused to operate. So that was a waste of money, too, especially since I couldn't return the inks. Then there was the problem that the printer will not print if one cartridge registers out of ink, even if you only want to use the black. Tough luck if you are running a deadline!Later, I got a letter in the mail which turned out to be a notification to me of a class action suit against Epson because consumers found that their ink cartridges registered empty when in fact there was still ink in the cartridges. So I shook my "empty" cartridges, and sure enough, they sloshed. Too bad I opened that letter way too late to benefit. Not that I would have received anywhere near the amount I spent on the inks...I rated it low because ink is a huge factor when buying a printer. It's supposed to save us money to have our own photo printers, otherwise we might as well have our photos done professionally. I shudder to think of how much each individual printout must have cost me.

Installed later with white products cartridges : problems ! and no print: indicating empty cartridges that are still full ! resetting programs don't work , no recognizeing of chips or other failures .. Inbuilt selfdestructive Epson technologie !! How can you get away with that ??? so please reader : DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT OR YOU WILL END UP AS ANOTHER DISSAPOINTED CUSTOMER AT THE END OF THIS LIST.. Printers last about 2 years, due to failures with their weakest link, the print heads. Once they clog, you can throw the printer away. If you have spare ink cartridges for the unit, you can throw that away as well, because the replacement unit will require different ink cartridges. If you think you're clever buying the same model printer used, think again. It may be advertised as in "Very Good" condition, but when you receive it, it may be just as clogged as the unit you are trying to replace. Then you will be stuck returning it, at your expense. And the person who sold it to you through amazon.com may refuse to refund the cost of shipping to you as well. I wasted over $40.00 in shipping charges (to and from) with nothing to show for it. A real waste of time and money.

Paper Jam Paper Jam Paper Jam.If you by this printer to print to DVD or CD you"ll see "Error..Paper Jam " in your nightmares. It might take 2-3 minutes to print a DVD but plan on another 5-10 fighting with this piece of @#$% printer each time. I bought two of these printers so this is no fluke. Here's the full story. Once a year I make from 500-1000 DVDs in the late sping / early summer. Since I do this just once a year I am not willing to buy a robotic duplicator for $2grand plus, besides, I can do a lot more for a lot less by loading up my 3 computers with 2-3 dvd burners. Most automatic system only have one or two. Anyhow for three years I used the Epson Stylus Photo 960 to print, one at a time to DVD. Sure it had a few problems here and there, but nothing cleaning ink off the tray every few months wouldn't take care off. Well this year it bought the farm. Disc after disc it would smear excessive ink along the bottom of each disc. It would print perfectly up to this point. I could clean nothing to remedy this problem. Epson didn't care, and there service center here didn't care either. I'm sure it's a matter of them being to embarrased to quote me an estimate on repair as it would probabaly at least equal the cost of replacement. Anyhow, I was ticked because I couldn't get any help and the timing was really bad. But hey, I put probably at least 3000 DVDs through this thing for a lot less money than it would have been to out source or buy a high end professional automatic system. So I guess that's good. Anyhow, I replaced the 960 with two R340s. I figured $300 is still a lot cheaper than an automated system and I can get my projects finished in half the time. Well first let me say I'm more than a little disappointed that this printer not only doesn't print faster than my 3yr old 960, but it was actually SLOWER!! Let me clarify...I actually bought the first R340 three weeks before my 960 decided it was done. BTW I got about $100 in ink here for it if anyone has a 960 and is interested. SO anyhow I had the 960 and the first R340 working in the same room for about 3 weeks. The R340 took about an additional 30 seconds per disc to do it's little in and out song and dance and then finally print, compared to the 960. The 960 was pretty dummy proof on feeding DVDs and took them in flawlessly. The R340 errors on feeding like every 3rd try. This is a lot to read. I'll cut to the chase. About 2 days apart from one another each R340 made there printed 100 or so DVDs mark. At that point the feed error and jam errors became constant. It would literally take 10 minutes of screwing with the printer to convince it to print. Eventually both refused to feed the DVD tray in and would flap up the little tray that holds the tray that holds the dvd and that tray would make an aweful noise as it rocketed out scraping below the other tray that for some reason flipped up. After tis happened enough times an error message popped up referring me to the manual which basicaly said if you see this error the printer is @#$%! Well the guy I talked to at Epson said there is defianlty a problem with the printer so they will send I replacement. Well, now that the same crap has happened to R340 #2 I don't want the replacement! Before I call them on this second printer I will try to return it to the store. Clearly Epson decided the 960 was to good of a printer and that if anyone wanted to print on 100dvds or more they had no business buying one of their printers. Before any smart#$#% would say I shoulda bought a professional printer for such quantites, let me remind you that over the course of three years I put thousands of DVDs through the 960. No where was there any indication that I shouldn't be able to expect the same from the R340. Printing on DVDs is kinda special and unfortunatly I think Epson is the only one that really makes a consumer one in the inkjet variety but tell me would you buy a regular paper printer if you found out it was only good for printing 100-200 pices of paper. No way! It's so disappointing to see a company start making their products so much less reliable.

I have had this printer for a year or so and just recently the black ink cartridge ran out (colors were fine because I never use them, and refuse to pay the crazy amount for 5 different color cartridges). Anyway, long story short, even though my printer is set in Black Ink Only mode, it REFUSES to let me print anything whatsoever because one of the color cartridges is too low. What a ripoff. My Canon lets me print how I deem fit, in Black Ink only, even though the color cartridges aren't even installed in this printer.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to today's 3 in 1 printers which require very expensive ink, this is the perfect alternative. Good for certificates, photos and everyday use. Best part: one can order cheap ink from Printpal.com that works just fine. I know, I'm a teacher who has used one for the past 15 years-no problems.

I could not believe it when I read other reviews, that the printer will refuse to print Black & white if one of the 5 color cartridges runs out of ink. All of my other printers (HP, Samsung, Lexmark) will print B&W even if the color ink runs out.And because there's 5 color inks, I frequently have 1 of them run out, and the printer will not use just the black ink cartridge to print B&W.Because of this, I have vowed never to buy an EPSON product again, and will write similar review on Epinions and other websites. EPSON - you should be ashamed of yourselves for this terrible product. I have never felt this cheated in any electronic purchase I have ever made, and I almost never complain.Read the other 1 star reviews - This printer is GARBAGEP.S. The ink recharging/cleaning cycle that drains extra ink every time you turn the printer on is another SCAM. I have a 12 year old HP injet color printer that still works, and uses less ink.

I had a Epson r300 that went bad, so I wanted another printer equal.I bought this R340. It will produce lab quality photos. High quality printer. The only down side is it used expensive ink.

I bought this printer back in 2004 at Costco and is still reliable. I use it to print Photo Quality DVD Covers and hight quality pictures. Did I mention I'm a photographer? So quality is a must for me. I have not upgraded to another printer because this printer still meets my needs and continues to make me some money :)For larger prints I just send the files elsewhere and get the size I need on the paper I choose.I hope my printers lasts me another 5 years

If you like a printer that has to think for about 5 minutes before printing out a job (all the while making an annoying series of noises), than this is the printer for you.Another irritating feature is that if you run out of yellow ink, it won't allow you to print, even though what you're printing is black and white and doesn't involve any use of yellow ink.Speaking for myself, I'd rather have a printer that didn't feel the need to make decisions for me. Please, Epson, let the user make decisions. Don't impose your "smart" printer's "thinking" on the user.
