First let me say that Epson has done a wonderful job putting together the Pro 3880. I had read more comments on the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 printer than I would like to mention prior to the purchase of my 3880. What I wanted was a good printer that I could print only 17" x 22" canvas with. I have many other printers to the various kinds of jobs that I require. Well let me say that the printer has lived up to just about all of the negative comments I read. It takes a lot of extreme effort to get the input feed roller to catch the canvas when feeding single sheet from the rear feed slot. I have tried most of the suggestions put on the internet by various people and have had some success. It would seem the Epson Company that has developed such a wonderful printer (yes the Stylus Pro 3880) would hear all of the unhappyness with the roller problem (the 3800 has the same problem) and offer some solution to us who love the printer but who struggle with the difficulty getting a piece of canvas into the printer.

Printer is good, but overall experience with FRYS.com and EPSON customer support was terrible.Printer was not compatible with my reuter, but this none of the Epson techintians bothered asking or found this problem. Over a week of not having a functional printer, I called FRYS.com to return the printer. Spent talking to multiple agents, finally was able to get a return number. They arranged for a pickup, but UPS/Fedex NEVER CAME. Called Frys again, got hung up by rep. Terrible service. Finally was fed up with both customer service, decided to try a new reuter, everything was working wihting 5 min. Epson should really provide a list of compatible reuters with this product.Again, TERRIBLE customer service on both FRYS.com and EPSON, but printer is decent. I would buy this product elsewhere, or look for another brand.

I bought my Epson Stylus NX 305 about six months ago, and from the get go I had problems with it. Paper would always jam, and the ink would run out extremely fast and the replacements in the store are super expensive. Recently the paper in it jammed again, and I tried to clear it like I had all the other times, and it didn't work. The screen still had a printer error on it. I went through the trouble shooting process from the Epson website, and when none of those techniques worked, I called customer service. When I explained the problem to the call representative (who spoke very broken English) he told me he could fix the problem...for $149.95. I bought the printer brand freaking new for $39.99 at Office Depot. So I said no thanks.Long story short, if you like blowing your money on a printer, this is the product for you. I'm about ready to throw mine out the window.

Didn't like it- tray had to be replaced, flukey performance, slow, noisy, quirky. Paired with my macs it never was really dependable. Once one ink ran out I had to replace them all. Would not work on just the black cartridge. I feel like i'm in a alternate universe here, I never really had good luck with this printer- switched to an Epson Artisan 725 all in one for less than the ink for the R200- love it, this is a quiet , well behaved machine. No sliding tray to go in and out , then in again, then print (if you were lucky) like the r 200 did . Nothing but trouble.

This product did not arrive in an OEM package, although it does have a blue Epson label on it. It came in a generic white bubble envelope. I also see where the listing does not state NEW, new old stock (expired), or REFILLED, so I really don't know which it is. I installed it in my printer and it does work. So basically if it lasts as long as it should, I will buy another. If it doesn't, then I won't. It would be great if the listing on Amazon would spell out NEW, NOS, or REFILL.

I've had the unit for almost two weeks now, purchased directly from Epson.I love it so far, amazing print qualityMost of my experience has been with the 3800/3880 along with 4880 an 7880The R3000's print quality is on par with Epson's "professional" printersI have two gripes with the unit - Wasted ink during cleanings - disappears into the depths to be soaked up by the waste ink pads - The waste ink pads themselves - If you plan on high volume printing, I would recommend connecting a waste ink tankOverall an amazing desktop behemoth, silent as can be and crystal-clear resolution

For the past several years, I've used HP's Photosmart Pro B9180 13x19" printer. After it died for the umpteenth time over the course of many months but fewer than 100 total photos, I finally decided to give it to my 6 year old son to take apart. That gave him hours of pleasure. I was hoping that Epson's pro-level inkjet printer would have a superior build quality and wouldn't die because a small plastic part in the excess ink collector snaps off and fouls up the mechanism.Setting up the Epson 3880 is straight forward - plug it in, run a USB cable, install the printer software, and you're ready to go. There's no need for initial alignment, printhead installation, or anything other than fitting in the 9 ink cartridges. I've printed four photos so far - all 17x22" on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper and UltraPremium Luster Paper. I printed one color and one black-and-white image on both. The printer uses matte black on the art paper and photo black on the standard paper. This is the one place where changing paper costs some ink since there's only one line serving these two ink carts and the earlier black needs to be emptied out before utilizing the appropriate black ink.The photos printed perfectly the first time, straight from Photoshop CS5 running on a Macintosh. The paper didn't skew as it fed in, the printer didn't suddenly display that one of the inks had run dry half way through a print, and you can't see the marks from the paper feed wheels on the final prints. Black and white prints look as if they came from a darkroom - yes, I can still tell the difference between a darkroom-based print and a digital print, but we're getting ever closer. The unit itself runs far more quietly than the HP did and I was impressed with the overall smoothness of the operation and the clearly higher quality of the hardware itself. The Mac talks to the printer correctly and I can easily obtain feedback on the Mac or from the LCD screen on the Epson regarding ink levels. It's early yet, so I'll be back with an addendum as my use progresses, but so far, I'm very impressed with the hardware, the manual, and Epson's photographic inks and papers.

I like how Epson has color-coded their inkjet cartridges with animals. For my printer I don't ever have to remember a part number or a model number or anything abstract like that. Just get a zebra for my black ink and a lion for my colored ink. That simple. And most folks know that ink cartridges are EXPENSIVE, especially if you buy them in person. And online their are a zillion sellers of these things, but try as I have, I have not been able to beat what I find on Amazon. Epson factory ink at the best price out there, brand new, not a refill, so I don't have to worry that an important document might come out bad.

I bought this printer because of the low price and the fact that, in principle, you only need to replace one ink color at the time.Nothing farther from the thruth. You need to replace ALL low ink cartriges if you want to print. If blue ink is gone, you cannot print in black and white. This is evidently a rip-off. Print quality is bad, the scanner tray jams after four pages, the software is full of bugs (at least for the Mac), the scanner ignores some of the pages,...Make yourself a favour and do not buy this printer.

This printer rocks! I've been using an Epson 2200 for years, selling prints through galleries and cafes. Results with color prints from the same files are noticeably superior in color and 'pop'. Advanced B&W mode is the real surprise for me, though - I'm finally getting B&W prints that please me easily and consistently. Great. The other thing is that, when the printer is not in use it is all closed up and flat on top. I don't know if your 'digital darkroom' looks like mine, but useful flat surfaces are rare and wonderful in mine. All is great so far - highly recommended.

Everyone knows that printer manufacturers are really in the ink business. It's similar to the Gillette business model of give the razors away and charge for the blades. However, Epson has extended this concept and taken it too far in my opinion. The ink cartridges in this printer are fairly tiny, but exacerbating that is the technology that is built in to the cartridges where they decide when they are out of ink. Once a single cartridge decides it is empty the printer will no longer function. If the yellow cartridge is out of ink, you can't print anything, even in black. Worse, my black cartridge decides it's out of ink after having successfully printed perfectly dark pages, and the number of pages I got prior to it dying was shockingly small. Here are some overall observations about this printer:- Printing speed is extremely slow- Print quality is what you'd expect for an entry level printer- Scanning is very fast, and the document feeder works very well- Ink Cartridges that decide when they are out of ink mean I'll never buy Epson again

Have had this printer for several years and have been quite satisfied with it. The color quality of the printing is outstanding. I have a newer quality printer by another top manufacturer and the colors are not nearly as vibrant as they are with the R300. Epson apparently makes some of the best inks. I use standard 20 lb. paper in it and get good quality. Photo paper gives better quality of course, but heavier paper does jam easier in this printer. There have been a lot of complaints about the amount of ink this printer uses, but it may be a misconception. It warns you of low ink long before you have to really replace the cartridge. You can sometimes print many, many pages before the ink actually runs out. Ignore the low ink warning and just wait until it stops printing and says the ink is actually out. One problem with low ink is that you sometimes cannot do an ink head cleaning if ink is too low.Once in a while I have had banding problems when printing. Just run the printer through a cleaning cycle or two and problem goes away. The only design flaw I have found in my printer is that the CD/DVD printer tray seems to have an issue with feeding in sometimes and quite often I have to give it a little nudge to get it started. Also it sometimes doesn't eject all the way and I have to pull it out. Initially the tray worked fine, so it could be a component that has worn enough to cause the problem. It has been doing it for a long time, but I can live with this slight problem, as the print quality of the CDs and DVDs is excellent and I have printed 100's.Would hate to pay the prices now being asked for this printer ($300+ and up), as I think I bought mine new for around $100. I must have gotten an incredible buy or the prices on this have jumped dramatically. When the printer quits, I think it will be well worth repairing. The last color inkjet I had before this one (different brand) did not last as long.

I purchased this machine to print in a larger format (11" X 17") than the usual 81/2" X 11". When the printer finally arrived, setup was easy and straight forward. However, when I tried to make my first print nothing happened. It would not load any paper. I tried to load paper in the various places it recommends but nothing happened. After contacting Epson, they had me reach into the machine and start pushing on the bottom of the feeder tray. Nothing. We tried changing various menus on the machine itself. Nothing. Finally I began pushing on anything that I could reach inside the machine and there was a slight movement. We tried a test sheet and finally, it worked. After that, it now will load paper, one sheet at a time, with many sheets getting jammed.I don't think this machine is worth the money compared to my HP printer which can hold many sheets at a time and hardly ever jams.

I have used the Epson 2200, canon 9000i and HP photo printers with varying degrees of success and frustration. I am pleasantly surprised by the 3880 in both how easy it was to setup and get great prints and it's versatility. Basically it is an oversized 2880 printer but using the larger 80mil ink tanks, the extra ink capacity means lower costs per print and longer print runs between changing cartridges. On the quality side it does magnificently with Prints that are second to none. I already have prints 16x20 and 17x22 going up in local art exhibitions, some of the customers already having large printers of their own but preferring the quality of the prints the 3880 produces. While the printer does a great job I think Epson can make a few improvements. First is the front loading door, the rest of the printer is well made and thought out but this door is flimsy and I have broken it off a few times. Thankfully it snaps back in place easily. next is the manual paper feeding, Epson replace this with a roll sheet feeder please!! make it optional and I will be much happier feeding it rolls of velvet fine art paper vs 2-3 attempts at feeding a 17x22 sheet. The rear sheet feed holder is also a sore spot as it to is flimsy and falls out easily, a quick fix is to use 2 pieces of electrical tape on the bottom outside ( where it meets the printer at the attachment points ) to keep it in place, Owners of tummi covers will know what I am talking about! The printer is also a bit fussy about bent paper, make sure your feeding it flat sheets with no bends or the head will streak across the sheets where it hits, I know only the higher end professional printers ( this is the entry level pro printer ) use vacuum to flatten the sheets but a simple raised lip on the print head or similar to stop it from hitting the paper directly would help as I am sure over time that can damage the print head. Last is the matte and photo black in switching, I like that it is automated but who not just add more nozzles to the print head so we don't wast 4 ml of ink switching ( I save matte jobs for a batch to print at once then switch back as photo black is used more ). Just a thought!Would I purchase another 3880 now? well no I will probably move up to a 7900 now and keep the 3880 for the smaller prints but if I were to do this over again the 3880 makes a good start and worth while jump over the 2880 or canon 9500 printers.

I decided on this printer after hours and hours of comparison research andI have had no regrets since purchasing my unit from a most obliging retailervia Amazon. The first serious (and frightening) test of the R3000's capabilities was foran exhibition I had been invited to put together of images from a recent project.I printed off 35 black and white photographs on Chromajet Metallic Pearl A3+ usingthe printer's own 'Advanced B/W' settings and the results were simply awesome! The exhibition was a great success and I have since sold over 20 framed prints. What excited me most was that the R3000 reproduced the images almost exactly as Ihad intended, pushing it to the test with some quite unusual processing techniques.A true testament to the R3000's print quality and my love affair has only just begun!

I am an Amateur photographer who happened to take some really nice pictures on a recent trip. I took my digital pictures to two different high end photo stores and they did not even come close to capturing the vibrancy of each picture. Photogrpahy is a hobby and it now looks like printing will be a hobby as well. Over 4 days, I did intensive research, spoke to several speciality photo stores and was ready to buy the Epson R 2880. It was about $300 less and for this differenc in price appeared to be the better deal. However, as my research continued and I kept reading review after review about the small ink containers in the Epson R 2880 and that in order to print Matte B & W, this required a change of cartridges. While changing a cartridge was fine, the nozzle also had to flushed and cleaned and this caused a waste of ink. Due to the high price of ink, the small cartridges, changing Matte and glossy black, I cancelled the Epson R 2880 and took the plunge to the R3000.After much research, it is my opinion that if you thinking about Epson photoprinters (R2880 and R3000), I would recommend giving serious thought before buying the R2880.Thank you,David

I am a serious amateur photographer. Recently my Epson R1800 printer died. Based on my experience with two previous Epson printers and my research, I decided to purchase the R3000. I have had the printer for a couple months now and I am quite happy with my purchase. A quick summary of my observations are as follows: 1) it was very easy to set up; 2) the print speed is so much faster than my R1800 even at the quality setting; 3) having choices for quality settings is great, but I notice little difference between the speed, quality and maximum quality settings; 4) the automatic changing of the black inks works quite well; 5)I have printed up to 11 x 14 size prints and they are excellent; 6) the larger ink cartridges are much more convenient to use; and 7) the on screen menus and the user manual are prepared in an intuitive fashion. The bottom line is you can't go wrong with this printer.

This was far from a cheap printer when I bought it a couple years ago. It was like $250. The six ink cartridges are supposed to give better color rendition - to me, all they provide is a better bottom line for Epson. The printer goes through cartridges extremely quickly. I have never been able to get it to properly print envelopes, a very simple and straigthforward task that my previous Epson Stylus C-80 (much less expensive) did easily. The C-80 also printed photos and graphics better. The R220 has an annoying habit of leaving drops and blobs of ink in random places, a problem I very rarely had with the HP's or the Epson C-80. Color rendition is especially disappointing, especially when one considers the extra ink cartridges.I had graphics images from my Epson C-80 and HP printers framed and on my walls at home, and routinely expected that kind of quality from those printers. The R-220, by contrast, seldom yields output that is good for anything but reference. The first print that is sent to it during any printing session, is lousy. The second is iffy, and the third and subsequent ones usually are okay, but again, not impressive in any way. Choosing the option "best photo" usually results in a poorer quality image. I have experimented with different papers, from plain to very fancy and made the decision long ago not to risk any fancy expensive papers in this printer. I use Epson Bright White and hope for the best, in comfort knowing I'm not going to waste a dollar a sheet if the print quality sucks.I am looking for a replacement now, though I probably won't buy one at least until next fall, and I will certainly be hoping for - and expecting!! - a much better quality of output. I'm sure there are plenty of $50 printers out there that will match the quality I'm getting from this one, and in retrospect, I wish I got one of them. I thought I was spending the extra money for excellent graphics, which I most certainly did not get out of this printer. I'm mad as hell about this, and probably will be going back to HP for my next one, though I dread dealing with installing their drivers, which are always a nightmare. The Epson ones aren't that much better in that regard, however.Of course, I can't say for sure that the newer model isn't any better than this one, but I can say for sure that I won't be buying it!!

I had some problems with my Epson C84, only printing in black, lots of banding. After opening it up to try to clean the print head I watched in amazement as it did its little inkjet dance before actually printing something. At the right hand side of the track this printer has a little vacuum pump that clears the print head - but you should see how much ink it pumps to waste in the process! This happens for every print job. Not only that, but at the left hand side of the track there is a well into which - you guessed it - the machine sprays more ink into to go to waste. No wonder the C84 seems to drink ink in huge quantities. Most of that expensive ink never even gets to paper - it ends up in a little sponge lined tray in the bottom of the machine.I have learned an important lesson buying this printer. Epson seems to have programmed the machine to waste as much ink as possible. Please do yourself a favor if you're considering buying an Epson - don't.
