I have had a great working relationship with this printer: no hassles incorporating ICC profiles, very good ink consumption (providing you don't use matte or otherwise soft paper) and remarkably accurate rendition from my monitor (assuming your monitor has been calibrated). The price per print is slightly more than with with the 3880, but then I'd rather spend $265 than $470 for the ink package. I don't like to go too large (I'm an amateur) and do most of my prints in 13" x 19". Nothing seems to be lost in terms of color and detail at this size; these prints are as fine as 11" x 14" and smaller. I have a hard time distinguishing between an R3000 print and a lab print using an sRGB color gamut. I haven't used roll paper. I use Red River Polar Pro Satin paper most of the time. I have yet to use Epson, Hahenmuhl or Moab papers. For the money, I don't believe there is a better desk top photo printer.

I am one who switched from Canon photo printers to the Epson Pro 3880, after I had used my Canon i9900 for many, many years. I struggled with the decision and went with the Epson because pretty much all of the serious photographers I know use this printer. The printer works great and makes beautiful prints ... BUT ... the switching between Matt black and Photo black inks is verrry annoying. I don't have the space in my very small work area for another printer for every day use so I use this one and it just seems like it's always set on the WRONG BLACK for what I need to do at the moment and the switching of inks is SLOW and also WASTES INK. I print competition photographs and digital illustrations for galleries and shows; but I also print cards and posters, etc. ... and I often get emails that I want to just print out quickly ... or bank statements, etc. This printer is NOT good for that ... as opposed to the Canon that was easily switched from photo quality to fast low quality printing ... in a flash .... not sitting and waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting for this printer to CHANGE THE BLACK INKS. I do wish I would have known that when making my decision ... and I probably would have chosen the new Canon Pro (pigment ink) printer instead. Apparently all the other photographers that use this printer use it ONLY for printing competition images and have a second, cheap printer for their "regular" printing needs. I just don't have room for that, unfortunately.

We purchased the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 last fall because we print a family calendar each year. This printer did not do a good job with the photos, the pictures looked like they had a white wash over them. The paper cost a fortune from Epson and it still doesn't do a good job. When you print a photo on real photo paper the pictures does not have good clear edges, they are all blurred and the red is tooo much. The ink dries out if you don't print every 2 or 3 days and you have to clean the heads. This takes time and ink let alone wastes the sheet of paper you printed your project on. The ink cartridges cost a lot for no more ink than they contain and like I said earlier the ink dries out and has to be cleaned very often which takes even more ink.Not impressed and If I could trade this printer in on a new printer I would do so immediately.

This printer is a replacement for another Epson printer I got 11 years ago which is still printing. The R3000 comes highly recommended and doesn't disappoint. So far I have printed borderless 13"x19" glossy and watercolor paper prints that came out great. The ink carts last longer, especially since I switched to the less expensive refillable carts from Vermont PhotoInkJet. They contain 20% more ink and the DIY means lots of savings. I printed several CDs with the adapter and they came out very well.Having all the ink carts in the printer means not having to switch between Photo Black and Matt black so that saves a hassle. WiFi connection means no limit as far as printer placement in a room and it can easily be shared by multiple computers and devices.I highly recommend this printer to any photographer or artist who wants great print results.

Basically, a solid printer, easier to use than my previous R2400 but doesn't create as chromatic or detailed an image that I'd been expecting. Gloss on glossy paper is not impressive nor is the contrast as high as I'd like. There is a problem running thick paper through the front loader as Epson recommends. Specifically, I have not been satisfied running Exhibition Fiber through the front loader, leads to lines from the print head's travel. Those go away when the rear sheet loader is used instead. Took a bunch of sheets to discover that it is best to ignore Epson's suggestions about how to load thick paper. I am also getting ink on the edges of full width paper (19x13) whether loaded in the rear or the front. Very annoying. Printer will go back for warranty adjustments soon, hope that will handle the issue.

Am enjoying my new Epson Stylus Photo R3000 printer. I bought it because two avid photographers recommended it ot me. I love the fact that I can print up to 13 x 19 inch prints which I can take to my photography classes. The images are vivid, well detailed even when using the "Speed" setting. The only negatives about the printer is that it uses up ink too fast, the ink must be ordered as local stores do not carry it, and the ink is extremely expensive. Due to the expense I only print using the "Speed" setting. My instructor oos and ahs when she sees the R3000's prints that I bring to class. In comparing prices for the #157 cartridges, I found that Red River Paper had the best price, with B & H Photo the second best price. Office Depot had the highest price for the ink.

I bought two of these in one year through one of the big office stores trade in events. I got the printers for maybe $30. I bought two because my wife and I both worked from home offices and she was printing about 30 pages everyday. You do pay for the ink though, as others say in their reviews. The ink can be purchased very cheaply though from third party vendors. About $2 per cartridge if you just shop around for 10 minutes online. For household printing, even business everyday use printing the printer and copier are great. I use the scanner quite often also for efaxing and emailing documents. Never had a problem with the printer itself in about two years now. Print photos sometimes too, but I try to use Epson Ink when printing photos and they look great. I print envelops and cards no problem, no jams. when it starts to get jammed, it's time for a new printer, because the little parts in these printers are not easily accessible.

It doesn't surprise me that over five years after this printer was discontinued by Epson new ones are still for sale at 5x the original price and used ones can fetch as much or more than the printer originally cost. The R300 and R320 are almost the same printer with the same foot print, paper paths and ink cartridges.Even if you buy one of these used three secrets to printing glorious photos at a fraction of the cost of other printers:1) Use re-manufactured cartridges that are OEM or better. They work, are a heck of lot cheaper than Epson and are affordable. And if you get them for a reputable company like LD Products they will exchange a failed cartridge quickly. They won't risk a bad customer rating for one bad ink at $5.2) If you really print a lot of stuff get a Continuous Ink System for around $75. Its easy to install and it will pay for itself after only 2 sets or Epson OEM ink cartridges. Look on Amazon for one for this printer. The savings is amazing. Typical cost per page in the industry for all brand of printers is around 4-6 cents per color photo. With this printer and the CIS noted above the cost is only 1 1/2 cents per page. Now do see why this printer is still so popular?3) Epson did a low-down no good thing with their printers by building in some "planned obsolescence". After a couple thousand printed pages the printer will act as if it's dead and the printhead won't move. The LCD display will say "The printer has reached the end of its life, etc." No it hasn't. Epson is just trying to get you to junk it and buy another. Look around for someone selling a reset CD (Not the guy who also wants to sell you a "key"). For around $8 you can buy the CD which will update the printer and it's back online, good as new. How many of these printers were thrown in the trash when they didn't need to be?I own three R300s and one R320. Whenever I see someone selling one as "Parts, Not working" I buy it for $30 and run the reset on it then either keep it or resell it. Clean it up and its good as nearly new. Also, don't forget the CD printing capability. The Epson R300/320 print beautiful CDs. Worth the money alone for that.7/19/2011 Update: I've seen other reviews claiming the printer doesn't work in Windows 7. Actually it does. Epson has always been great about long term driver support. I had the original Epson Color Flatbed Scanner from 1990 and Epson kept updating drivers for it well into Windows XP, alomst 15 years later! I have an Epson R300 working in Windows 7 64 bit and was able to install the latest driver from the Epson site and even get the latest version of Epson CD Print. Works great!8/3/2011 Update: RE: Posts about problems with the power button. You have to press and hold the power button for three seconds to power on the printer. That is normal. A read of the manual might be in order, hmm?

This was purchased for an old Epson CX5400 printer. Not sure why the package does not clearly mark it compatible with the CX5400.What can I say about the product. This specific model's cartridges are getting extremely hard to find as the printer is very old now.The cartridges do what they are suppose to do, and nothing more. It is an additional aggravation from Epson's design that all functionality on the printer/scanner/copier won't work until an empty cartridge is replaced. REALLY? I can't scan either, WHY?!!The reason why I went with Epson, however is because of the Durabrite ink formula. The ink will not run or smear when wet. Many printouts from my Haych Pii were lost when I had to deliver a report in the rain. The blacks come out reasonably crisp for an inkjet, but obviously not as crisp as a laser.

I am constantly amazed by my R3000 printer. The quality of the prints I've been making with it are beyond my expectations. I typically use Hahnemuhle Fine Art papers with their profiles for their papers on this printer. The results are extraordinary. I particularly appreciate the low ink loss when changing back and forth from matte black ink. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is the difficulty sometimes in front-loading thick 11" or 13" wide paper ... it can take a couple of tries to get it inserted and aligned right, especially when the paper has a slight curl to it. But that's hardly a complaint. I'm totally satisfied with this printer and would have expected to pay much more for this quality.

I previously owned the Epson 2200 and was annoyed that I would have to go through many test prints before I could get the colors 'right.' I went to a presentation given by an Epson salesman who GUARANTEED that if I got a Color Munki or display calibrator and the Epson 3000, I would get perfect colors the first and every time. That, sadly, is not the case! Getting a good color print is still an iterative process! I have to go through 3,4, 5 or even 6 test prints before I get an acceptable print. This is so frustrating! The Epson 3000, except for B&W prints, is about as good as my Epson 2200. It does do a nice job on B&W prints -- I generally have little manipulation to do.

For the past eight years I have been using the Epson Photo Stylus 2200 printer. I was very happy with this printer for color, but not for B&W. Recently, I upgraded to the Epson R3000 and it is a whole new experience. The colors are more vibrant and seem to have "depth". B&W rivals or exceeds silver emulsion prints. I'm using a direct USB connection, so have not checked out the wireless capabilities. The printer is quieter and faster than the 2200. I use a calibrated monitor and the color of the print matches more closely than the 2200 did. I use both Epson and Ilford Galerie paper, mostly semi-gloss or luster with good results.I highly recommend this printer.

I've used this printer for about two months now with paper sizes from 4x6 up to 13x19; have not yet tried 17x22 but for all the other sizes this printer makes beautiful prints on Epson papers. I have let nearly two weeks pass without using the printer and when I used it again it printed flawlessly without any hint of the heads clogging or needing cleaning. Others more familiar with fine art photo quality printers may have more specific comments, but I am a highly satisfied user of this printer, it exceeded all of my expectations and is easy to use. I print using Photoshop CS6 and following Kelby's guidelines, which make good prints pretty foolproof if you follow the instructions. The printer takes up a lot of desk space but that's the price you pay if you want to be able to print large format photos.

I bought this printer to replace an HP 1220. The Epson was slower and the colors produced were not true. Went through lots of ink and having a zillion ink tanks was more trouble than it was worth. I used the printer to produce check prints of plans, maps and engineering drawings before sending to a plotter. The colors were also inferior even when using glossy color paper. The colors were inferior to the old HP printer and to the new HP Officejet 7000 I bought to replace the Epson. The printer did connect to the network easily since it had a built-in Ethernet port.Overall, a very disappointing product

The results from this printer are very impressive. It produces beautiful high quality prints. However the fact that you have to change black inks depending on the paper (matt black - photo black) is a nuisance not to mention that each time you change the ink is uses ink - wasting it ... the price for ink for this product is quite high ... wasting it for any reason is not acceptable.I have owned several Epson printers less expensive than this model all printed as well and there was no need to switch inks - it was done automatically.

This is without a doubt the best printer I have ever used. previous printers were Canon and Epson R2880. I have no trouble using any paper I desire including Canvas. Some printers require using a leader to feed Canvas, none required for the Epson R3000. The color is spot on. I did a color check using Epson Hot Press Bright(my favorite paper) and it blew me away. I highly recommend this printer to anyone Pro or amateur. I do sell and exhibit my photos and and everyone is amazed at the colors and the clearity.snapshot

I am not totally satisfied with this purchase. For some reason I always had the suspicion that this printer was not brand new. After long periods of not using this printer it takes a long time to start printing. The first r3000 that I purchased I had to return because it was damaged. I received this one the very next day. Anyway, Print quality is very good but the r2400 was a better overall printer. The print speed is excellent for all applications. I also own the artisan 50 it I sometimes get better prints(brighter).

I have used many inkjet printers and printed 1,000's of photos of all sizes. The R3000 produces the highest quality photos of any printer I've used. I recommend it very highly for this use. The down side of the R3000 is the loss of black ink when changing black inks for printing text. If I change from photos to text printing very often it wastes an entire ink cartridge just in making the change. For this reason I use a laser printer only for text. If it weren't for this the R3000 would have my very highest rating.

I've owned several printers in my life, and have been taking photos as a serious hobbiest for years getting all my prints made at professional photo labs. I knew as soon as the first photo came out on epson exhibition paper that it was better...quite a bit better. Even my girlfriend walked in, saw the 13x19 and said "wow, that looks absolutely amazing!"Truth be told, switching the black ink tanks and having it purge 1/8+ of your tank each time is downright painful, but I still have to say 5 stars, worth every penny.

I have nothing but praise for this printer. Quality is outstanding in all modes, and the B&W reproduction can be breathtaking. I have not used the roll paper attachment or the CD printer yet, but I have used the frontloading art paper tray and matte black ink as well. Normally print on lustre (semi-gloss) so I go through a lot of photo black while the original matte black cartridge is almost unused. It is everything I had hoped it would be, and a lot more, besides. Would buy again in a flash.

The 3000 is more difficult to use than my old 2000. It may print faster but the set up time is greater and it uses more ink, which is more expensive. The necessity of feeding one sheet of fine art paper at a time also is more time consuming and requires someone constantly tending it. It also frequently will decide not to print something or it will just spit out sheets of the printing material with lines of machine characters on it, thus wasting expensive stock.

I have only used this new printer for three weeks so it is early in the game, but the ink usage seems high, but time will tell. Also in regard to ink I am a bit alarmed at what the ink set costs. This printer is a bit heavier than what I used in the past, but it seems stable.

The Epson R3000 delivers the most accurate color gamet with the maxoimum pexil range in it for a 13" wide format printer today more than any other 13" wide format on the market. It is very easy to to operate with either roll or sheet paper or canvas. I have made beautiful fine art canvas and paper prints that I have framed and hung-up. I have recomended the Epson R3000 to my friends and I consider it the very best 13" wide format printer on the market today.
