I've had this printer for quite some time and have been satisfied with it......UNTIL!!!I built a new computer and installed Windows 7 after I confirmed that the MS compatibility site indicated this printer was compatible with Win 7. The MS site reflected Epson's claim of compatibility -- they lied. The compatibility rating was later changed to NOT compatible and there is no indication that Epson will provide a new driver for Win 7. Contact with Epson seems to have verified that unhelpful position.So, although I score the printer functionality fairly well; I score Epson as unsatisfactory. If you're not running Win 7, you'll probably be satisfied with this printer. If you're running Win 7, look for something else.Epson, you should be ashamed of your lack of support and forcing owners to abandon a good printer. I've had to spend money that should not have been needed; and, you can bet I didn't buy another Epson. This one's going to a yard sale.

The Epson 3880 prints awesomely, but before you can get to that point you need to invest in a color calibration system like the Colormunki in order to make calibrated color profiles for you monitor and your printer/paper combination. Sign up to the EPSON store to receive special offers on ink, otherwise you will pay a fortune for the cartridges. Other than that I can safely say most pro's use EPSON printers so you can't do better. Also buy EPSON paper, since color profiles are available for these if you don't have the Colormunki.

This is a excellent all-around printer for the graphic artist, photographer or aspiring artist. Right out of the box I got great color even before tweaking the color profiles. Generous ink supply and so far, no problem with head clogging. There hasn't been many things I've bought at this price that I haven't had some "buyers remorse", but the 3880 has exceeded my expectations. I've owned a number of epson printers and have a love/hate relationship with them, but Epson got it right with this one.

I was plesantly surprised with the speed of delivery and ease of setup of my new Epson Stylus Pro 3880. I used the Network setup so that I could print from both my PC and laptop in my home network. Very easy and literally, within an hour of receiving it, I was printing great looking photographs. To date, I have printed over 70 8x10's and numerous other sizes using Epson's paper. I was shocked at how easy and great the 17x22 paper (for a 16x20) came out. I used the Ultra Prem Presentation paper Matte for a photo I enhanced using Photoshops watercolor filter, with a little feathering on the edges and my wife thought it was a real watercolor - rather than a photograph. Looking forward to checking out some of the other papers and I love the build in ICC profiles that are available. I just wish Epson had a sampler pack that had 5 sheets of all of their cut-sheet paper type I could have used as a 'get acquainted' effort for their papers. Too late now because I just ordered about 5 differnt types so I can better determine what I like with each type of photo. I do know now that I need to get my monitor color synced with the printer. I have initially been choosing 'allow printer to manage color' but hope to move to 'allow software to manage color'. Several of my studio portrait shots came out with a little more reddish tint and I need to figure out how to fix that. I still have lots to learn but having lots of fun doing it.Great printer.

This printer is so good straight out of the box it is hard to imagine how Epson could ever improve on the 3880.As a professional photographer that worked in a state of the art darkroom for 30 plus years, with large and medium format negatives, I have always worked to the highest standards. The Epson 3880 now allows prints to be made that should meet the requirements of even the most discerning user.Like others I moved from an Epson 2200. I would class that as a good printer (anyone want to buy one?) but it had limitations mentioned elsewhere. For the serious black and white printer the 3880 creates the most beautiful prints that could be neutral, cool or warm toned and created with ease. And colors are almost bang on to my color calibrated monitor (98%) and with the slightest bit of lightening to the Epson setting they match as closely as two different mediums could ever do.It was just about perfect straight from the box. I expected to spend a hour or two setting up for the first time but the very first test print was stunning. Just like listening to music played on a pair of new and expensive stereo speakers, subtle nuances started to appear that I hadn't seen before. I made print after print each one showing some new improvement over the 2200. Then I went to 17" x 22" paper without any apparent loss of quality. On one print, in the sky, I noticed a tiny black dot. Had the printer done that? It could only have been a few pixals wide. I got out a strong magnifying glass and looked closely. It was a plane. I could see the wings and the tail as sharp as they could be, but to the naked eye it appeared only as a black dot. I mention that because it illustrates the detail the printer prints to.One final word of caution. Be sure all the packing is removed. When you think you have it all out - look again and I'll bet you find another piece tucked away inside. I dread to think what would happen if it were switched on with some polystyrene inside...

Hello to all reading this. I would like to tell of my positive, overall experience with sellers such as this one on Amazon. Because I am disabled, I do all of my business from my home and faxing is a must for getting documents to doctors and insurance companies etc. fast. I needed an all-in-one printer/fax and this Epson Stylus NX305, while no longer cutting technology, was the best value with superior print quality and low cost of maintenance. The best price among the local giant electronics retailers was around $75. Having a base price range from them, I hop on Amazon and almost with out fail, I find a brand new item for much less. I only look for sellers with 4 stars or more and I have not been disappointed with any of my purchases. In this case, even after tax, I saved more than just the price of the same unit at the store. It arrived earlier than expected and it was factory sealed, just as advertised.I recommend this seller 100%. Pay$ to do your re$earch!

The printer worked pretty good while I used it often, but when I used it less frequently the problems started to mount - namely with the ink situation. It started to give the "ink out" messages even though the ink was not out in all the cartridges. And, even if I just had a full black in cartridge and another one was "low" it would not print in black only either. Very frustrating (and expensive to buy ink). We tried cleaning it and still doesn't want to print. It won't print if it senses that any cartridges are "out of ink"(even though they aren't). I just don't understand how it says you're "out of ink" and won't print when I know that is not true. What an expensive machine this is to run- and a frustrating one. Won't buy Epson again.

I'm realtively happy with the printer. It produces high quality images and meets expectations. However, the rear feed tray, mostly used for Velvet Fine Art paper, is diffcult to align. It frequently ejects paper and I'm forced to try several times before it's dead on. The guide system should be improved for this "tray". Everytime I switch to the Matte Black cartridge I have to run a clean cycle. We all know what that means (waste of ink, paper, and time). Often, I have to run mutiple maintenance routines when switching back to the photo black before the printer returns to normal. This can be frustrating.

This is written primarily for the potential used buyer. I have owned my Epson Stylus Photo R200 Ink Jet Printer (C11C546011) since new. So here's the low-down on this printer.The CD printing works very well, but keep in mind that the inks used by this printer are not waterproof. You can produce some great looking work, but you might need to carefully spray on some acrylic coating if you are planning on using it for CDs/DVDs offered professionally. (Obviously, we are talking low-volume work here.)Photo quality is impressive, if slow by today's standards. While it's not currently the "latest and greatest," the Photo R200 had some great features for it's day and I'd still consider it a competent machine even now.The other reviews mention excessive ink usage. Google "Epson Ink Class Action" for more insight into that.Be prepared to use the nozzle cleaner utility if you don't print color often, as they do tend to gum up if not used regularly.In summation, I'm still using mine and have been quite happy with it. Oh, it works with Ubuntu fairly well, having used Ubuntu since 9.04, although I wouldn't know how to used the CD printing feature without the original software that came with the printer. (Windows, obviously.)

I am an amatuer photographer and this is my first high-end printer.I run on Mac's and I installed the 3880 as a networked printer using it's ethernet connection. The installation was as smooth as can be.When setting up the printer in OS 10.6.3, you get two versions of the 3880. One is Bonjour and the other is TCP/IP. Selecting TCP/IP is important for all of the printer utilities to work.Make certain your monitor is color calibrated and the software you will use to edit and print has the same color space or you will get color casts on the prints.After that it is a total breeze to create truely awesome prints. I took some of them and compared them to portraits done by commercial photo shops. The 3880 prints were hands down better with much better definition and saturation. 100% first rate.I love this thing...UPDATE:I had to get a new driver when I went to OS 10.7, Lion.The new driver loaded smoothly and the printer prints fine.BUT, they changed the names for the paper types from easy to understand like "Letter - Borderless" to "Letter.L4SideMgnAE", which is the paper style you need for a borderless, letter sized print! Isn't that so obvious??Or "22"X17" changed to "US-C". Clear as mud.I contacted their tech support and they couldn't explain why they made this change but they did point me to a web-site that acts as a rosetta stone so you can semi-decipher their new gibberish.I still had to figure out which name to select to get borderless printing as the web-site doesn't make that clear at all.Why they would do this simply defines logic or explanation.

As with all Epson products I have used, this multifunction printer has good print quality.My only complaint is the print speed but I knew up front that it was not as fast but chose this model so I could use a continuos ink system on it from cisinks.com (saves me about 80% in ink costs).

Really, the only bad thing I have to say is that there's a major flaw in the print driver, and I've been in contact with tech support several times about it. The driver does not warn you when the ink cartridge will be automatically switched, which wastes about $5-10 each time if the switch isn't intended. And the driver doesn't save the paper type and black ink type from print to print, even with custom print settings. So you will inevitably have accidental ink swaps. They acknowledge it's a flaw, but refuse to do anything about it, even though the very same issue was addressed in two of their more expensive printers. There needs to be an option to disable auto switching or at least a dialog that pops up to confirm the switch. Really bad flaw on an otherwise wonderful printer. But it's one of those things that makes you feel like they just want to sell you more ink.

Lovely printer. Have owned for about 4 years and it is still going strong. I have bought Epson brand ink as well as the refillable cartridges and all have worked fine. I rarely use it to print photos, but when I do they come out well. No issues to date.

I have been working with the Epson 3880 now for the last 2 weeks since it arrived. After much research I have eagerly awaited the release of Epson's newest printer. Set up with my PC was a snap - no brainer here. Before my first print, I calibrated my monitor with the Spyder system which I also highly recommend. I've printed with both Photoshop and Lightroom. From the very first print.....my colors have been right on the money. In fact, as good as any professional online service I've used. The images are simply astonishing.I'm using currently Epson paper only, mostly their Velvet Fine Art paper. I have not yet found a need to run a calibration profile on Epson paper. The download paper profiles from Epson appear to be working well. Although I will probably do a test run to see if there is a significant difference. I'm looking forward to trying Red River Paper as well.I've never done any high-end printing before. I always used on an online print service, but was frustrated with my lack of control over the process. Using a printer of this caliber can be a little overwhelming with Photoshop/Lightroom. It is critical to get your color management issues squared away before hand. It was very helpful to read: The Art of Printing Photos on Your Epson Printer - by Michael Freeman and John Beardsworth which was published earlier this year. This book was enlightening and it made my software/hardware choices much easier.If you are tired of letting others have the final control over your very best images, are comfortable in PS or LR, utilize monitor calibration, can justify the expense, use higher end camera gear and enjoy the entire creative process that photography entails.....this is the printer you have been waiting for.

If one cartridge gets empty it WILL NOT print! And it's ALWAYS OUT!!! There is no workaround! Can't print black if any color is out! Does not like other brand ink, so you'll be stuck paying through the nose for it...and it uses a LOT of ink. I've had it! This thing has been a thorn in my side for 3 years, it's going to the dump!

Pros:Good quality printing.Scanner and auto document feeder work well.Easy to change individual ink cartridges.Cartridges under $10 each.Amazing for the price.Cons:Very slow printing. If you need to print out a lot of pages quickly, even just plain black text, the slowness of this printer will drive you crazy.Gobbles up ink.Won't print anything if one of the ink cartridges is low of ink.Recommendation:If you are going to use this as your main printer and you print frequently, consider installing a continuous ink system with external large ink reservoirs.

Printer works fine if you leave it on. Getting it powered on is a problem. There appears to be a short of some kind in the switch. Printer works fine for the purpose it was purchased.

Works excellent. I have had mine for over 2 years now. I rated this printer only 4 stars because after almost exactly 1 year of service, right after the warranty expired, I was having a problem with paper jaming and the CD/DVD tray not loading properly. The printer kept ejecting the tray. I was lucky, I read a review on the internet with a similar problem and the fix was real easy. All you need is a can of WD-40 with the long red spray nozzle. If you spray the loading track where the tray slides along to go into the printer this fixes the problem. There is a switch, barely visible, in the groove that accepts the CD/DVD tray. Once this switch is lubricated with WD-40 it cured all my problems. The other reason I gave this printer 4 stars is I had to replace my CD/DVD tray with a different hard nosed tray. The OEM tray has a plastic tip which eventually separated and caused jamming issues. Epson improved this tray with a hard nosed tray whcih cost about $15 for a new replacement. I also bought a CIS (Continuous Ink System) so I didn't have to keep buying genuine Epson cartridges. I have been saving a ton of money doing this. The print quality has been OUTSTANDING on 4x6 & 8-1/2 glossy paper and printable DVD's. I have never had another problem after WD-40Follow up Review, December 2009 - This printer is still going strong. I now use a continuous ink tank system (For about 6 months now) with generic dye ink. I just refill the ink tanks when they get low. A full tank of ink lasts me about 10 months and I do a moderate amount of Color and B&W printing. No chip resetter necessary. The Genuine Epson replacement cartridges cost way to much. I can't believe how much money I save this way. No further problems after using the WD-40 either. Paper Jam free. Picture quality is still outstanding (even with the generic ink) I am going to buy another one of these printers as a backup.

I got this printer 5 years ago and its worked beautifully. I scanned over 5,000 slides and over 500 negatives and an untold number of photos. The quality is beautiful and its great having my photo library, of almost 60 years, backed up to digital format. I print out wonderful photos of them. The quality of the printed photos is wonderful.

Although I have only worked with the 3880 printer for a month I am quite satisfied with its performance. At this point no glitches. It set up reasonably fast and printed great images from the start.Previously I used an Epson pro 4000 printer and it was getting old including software problems with the Mac snow leopard operating system.The 3880 so far has done a great job. Is it better than the 4000/4800? Considering the short time that I have used it I cannot tell. However, it seems a more sophisticated unit and the results are terrific.

I have always been an Epson fan and have tried various printers (HP, Lexmark, Canon, etc) but so far have found the Epson to be the most dependable (and the cheapest for ink cartridges). I first started with an Epson QX16 computer and wish they were still in production but since I have had to end up going with Dell (occasionally an AT&T, Compaq, Gateway, HP, and two 'clones') the printers have had to become the easiest, cheapest, most reliable and dependable - AND THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE EPSON!!

The Epson 3880 is a replacement for my 3800. Yes, I like it enough to buy the newer version but therein lies the rub. I'm replacing the 3800 after less than 4-years because of a clogged black nozzle. Which means the entire head has to be replaced, which means massive shipping charges plus the cost of the repair. All in all, for the greatest "peace of mind" it was better (and possibly cheaper) to purchase a new machine. If it wasn't for the fact that my previous model (3800) broke, I'd rate it 5-Stars.
