I wanted an inexpensive way to print on the surface of my cd collection, and I am very satisfied with this product. I have not used this to print photos thus far. I was very happy on how simple it was to set up the printer (ie. ink cartridges, unpacking, etc,)The only reason I gave 4 1/2 stars is because I had some problems initially getting the cd tray to work and I realized there was no cable to connect the printer to my computer, but that's no big deal, because free shipping compensated for the connection cable I had to buy. Once I got the cd tray to work, it was on. The photo I printed onto the cd surface was great, and I even printed the topic of the cd whiched blended perfectly. At this price, you can't complain. This is my first epson ptr, and I am now a believer. For the price, it is a very good cd surface prtr.

My Epson C80 is agout four years old. I have used it for printing photographs and color graphics, but it's a home use printer and I do these tasks about once every two weeks at the most. My computer system is a Gateway with a pentium 4 and I've had absolutely NO issues with the computer. The Epson is another story. The first couple of years it wouldn't talk to the computer. Several times I was forced to remove the software and reinstall. Within the last six months, the color is skewed. I've followed all the recommended processes to get it right and now I get no color and the black is horizontally intermittent. I contacted Epson technical service and the response I got was this . . . [buy a new printer. It will cost more to fix it than to buy new.]. So here I sit with $65 worth of ink for this printer and Epson tells me to buy another one. I'm so aggravated I'm about to go back to a dot matrix and get my photos printed elsewhere. I will not purchase another Epson product.

Like other reviewers have experienced, this printer was excellent until it failed after two weeks of going out of warranty. Never buying epson again.

Primarily I purchased this printer for CD/DVD printing and so that's what I'll concentrate on.Firstly the printer uses a tray system that's not physically part of the actual printer - if you want to print onto a CD after normal 8x11 printing you have to get your 12" tray and flip down the front of the printer and slide it in. You can't print on a sheet of paper one minute then onto a CD next without performing this mechanical change to the set up of the printer. It would have been SO useful if you could just pop a disc in the same way as you can with a CD drive - minor complaint but it's still frustrating to have this large tray laying around taking up desk space until you need it. Secondly, and this may also seem minor, but the tray actually sticks far out of the back of the printer as the disc gets printed on - my placement of the unit was close to a wall and I ended up having to move the print about 8" forward to accommodate the tray at the rear. Given the size of the printer plus the extra space of the tray you should ensure your intended footprint area will be large enough for it before buying.The prints themselves are fantastic. Perfect. In fact if you buy some diamond (silver) CD-Rs and use this printer then it looks completely pro - you can't tell it's 'homemade'.Aside from the tray getting stuck occasionally and the usual inkjet printer gripe - i.e. why do they take 30 seconds to faff about before printing I really like this unit. For the price it's hard to beat it especially if you're after one-off pro-quality CD/DVD printing.(Extra: I've purchased many third-party ink cartidges from G&G for a tenth of the price of Epson's proprietory ones and they work fine with this printer. You'll be going through a lot of them so keep it in mind if you buy!)

I own 2 HP inkjets, an HP Color Laserjet, and a HiTi dye-sub photo printer. I picked up this Epson 220 for fifty bucks after rebates (the 6 ink cartridges alone are $60 at Costco)primarily for its ability to print directly on cd/dvd. Was I shocked when I printed a couple of 8.5 by 11 photos on premium glossy photo paper-- they are flawless and blow away the photo ability of any of my other printers! As a second printer for a laptop or just to print photos, this thing is a bargain. I've always sworn by HP, but this Epson (by far the least expensive printer I've ever purchased)may change my tune!

Wow, I am shocked at all of the negative reviews about this printer. My college son bought this printer awhile ago and encouraged me to get one. I did and it works great!I really like the dura ink. I like not having to worry about projects being ruined because of a bit of moisture.Yes, if the ink's out you can't print. My solution is to have back up ink cartridges. I have not had any problems with clogged printer heads. I had to toss a Canon printer away because of printer head problems. Now I own an i560 Canon and an Epson C86 and I use the Epson more than the Canon.

I bought mine sometime before Thanksgiving 2005 and have had problems with it now for about three months. Despite repeated cleaning of the cartridge heads and their injectors, the best my printer can do in the way of color these days is a general hot pink cast overall. I suppose I can always pull the color cartridges and use it strictly for black and white, but I'm not impressed.

I should've listened to the others...I rarely use this printer (probably print a total of 10 pages per month--text documents),and then, out of the blue, a little over a year after I purchased it, the printer began printing blank pages. I tried everything that Epson suggests on their Troubleshooting guide: I cleaned the heads, I checked the nozzles, I put in brand new Epson cartridges. Still blank pages. If you're in the market for a printer, I'd spend a little more and get a quality (i.e. HP) printer. This is a lousy, flawed product. CAVEAT EMPTOR.

I've used Epson printers for the past 10+ years and this printer is garbage. My Epson Stylus 440 lasted for around 6 years and this one only lasted a couple of months. Printer would go through the motions of printing but nothing would print. Replaced the ink catridges (should've just bought a new printer at that point) for a total of $65. Still nothing printed. Called Epson and was told this was a common problem with this printer. After talking for 2+ hours on the phone with them they refused to fix my printer or compensate me for the $65 in ink I spent. At that point I told them where they could shove their printer and then unplugged it, took it outside and went "Office Space" on it with a baseball bat...I've since bought another printer by another company and will never go back to epson.

I recieved this from my wife for christmas, and three weeks later I have still been unable to even use it. I followed all of the instructions to load the driver and the mac doesn't even recognize it. i went to epson web site and downloaded a "revised" download driver (after deleting the one that came with the printer) but the mac doesn't even recognize it in it's printer utility. I have e-mailed epson three times, but all i've gotten thus far are the dreaded "automated" responses. Very dissapointing. i wish she would have purchased a new HP. i was able to load my old worn out hp business inkjet 2200 onto the mac with no problem!

Here's a purchase I don't regret. The output quality is pretty good; the driver has many useful features, like an automaic print preview (checkbox in the Printing Preferences, Main tab) and a neat multi-page option (Printing Preferences, Page Layout tab) that shrinks the output and puts 2 (or more) pages per sheet. I've had this feature in other printers and I find it handy.Con: The first time I used this printer, I was surprised by a lengthy initial delay: you click Print (in whatever application you're in) and nothing happens for several seconds, enough to make you think that the printer's broken or you didn't connect it correctly. To eliminate this delay I disabled the status monitor (to find the checkbox go to the Printing Preferences, Maintenance tab and click the button tagged Speed & Progress). Now I don't get automatically a display of the ink levels, and to request the display manually I must re-enable the status monitor. But the printer responds normally.I haven't tried yet to print on CD's, and I wish I could give (or get) feedback on the crucial question: What happens when the printer is out of warranty and it needs repairs?

i have had my printer now for about one month and i have had some very good results with the r340 printer so far? very easy to use, i like the thought that i dont need to have a computer to get prints. i would buy this printer again *****from graham in devizes.

I've heard a lot from reviews that the C84 will die after a year. I didn't believe and so bought one about a year ago. It was printing great. Ink goes out fast and had one full set replacement (Epson genuine). Worked fine till the one year warranty expires. Printing becomes terrible with blank strips when ink is close to empty (not empty yet). Thought that it's just because ink was low and so invested another set of expensive Epson genuine ink. That was the beginning of nightmare. Right after I replaced the whole set of ink, it just printed out blank pages. Tried cleaning head for 20 times without any improvement. Still blanks.Got Epson tech support and they just recommend head cleaning again. Tried another 10 times. No effect. Ink was shown 20% used already by then even though nothing had been printed. Head cleaning really throw away your expensive ink but does nothing good. Finally, Epson suggested that repair is needed and the repair would cost more than a new printer. That means I have to give it up and lost my expensive genuine Epson ink investment at the same time.Now, I have to believe those reviews that the printer dies after one year. So, if you like the Epson printer, buy it if you expect to work with it only for one year. Only replace ink if it's still printing fine. Don't ever bother to replace ink if you've got printing problems. Just junk it.

Truly this is a junk printer. I wrote a prior review on how youmight extend its life but today it failed for good. It would notrecognize the ink. Read a review that was posted that a class actionsuit is being filed for the ink part. Good. No matter what I did,the printer could not reconize the ink. Same ink stuff I have been using all along, but not Edson. I threw it away. I had brought a HP Photosmart 8400 HP about 5 months ago, but never took it out of the box. Price was good, customer reviewer were mostly 4 plus starsand I wanted a back up; bought it over Amazon.com . Software CD -it went right in. Pictures and pages are excellent. I won't deal with Epson again.

The C86 is my fourth Epson printer. All of them eventually starting clogging up and refused to come clean. My C86 has lasted less than a year. Before it started clogging it was smearing extra ink over anything thicker than flat paper -- i.e., envelopes, card stock, etc. The paper feed on anything other than plain flats would angle off slightly at the git go, so type would come out slanted on the page.Why did I go through four Epson printers before giving up? Great discount prices, and the hope each time that trading up would finally yield a decent printer. Fuggedaboudit. Goodbye Epson. Hello HP.

I wanted a CD label printer so I looked at the Casio label printer but the reviews were so bad so I bought the Epson R220 just to print on CDs. My first attempts came out perfect. The "Epson Print CD" software is very good. It gives you many options to work with text and images. I'll just be using the R220 for CD printing so I won't be using a lot of ink. I have a Epson C82 that been working fine for a couple of years and that will still be used as the primary printer.

I brought this printer as a bet, as i can't find any review on it yet.This printer seems only an improved version of the R320 in term of preformance and quality print. But with much easier and better user interface.What i like the most, the setting in the printer it self allow me to change the diameter of the printable surface of the cd. Some CD/DVD have 42mm hole of non-printable surface in the middle, but some only 21mm.Btw, the built in color monitor is great too, unlike the R320 where every advertising i've ever seen has one but they don't tell u it comes at extra cost, 'til u buy it.Overall i'm very happy with this one, and its definitely worth the extra price. For all other pluses of this priter, just refer to the R320 review, its 90% similar ;)

I have been a big fan of the Epson Stylus series for a long time. They all look great for the money, including this one. However, if you don't print anything for a couple days, be prepared to head clean about a thousand times before you get another decent quality printout. I just wasted almost an entire set of ink cartridges, which are quite expensive, head cleaning and the quality still hasn't improved. I'm ready to throw this printer out.

Have an in depth knowledge of the photo industry I can say that Epson makes great photo printers. I am not associated with Epson in any way! As to the one star review concerning not putting a usb cable in the box, that is standard practice. Adding a cable adds slightly to the cost. Just like why is their no memory card with the digital camera, adds to the cost. It's like that 12 exposure sample roll of film... a waste of time! If you are upgrading to another printer all you have to do is switch cables. Furthermore, with photo equipment you usually get what you pay for! For archival quality the Epson R800 is great and for the 4x6 fans the Picturemate is fantastic. It's a printer not a fighter jet!

Wish I had read these reviews before buying all new black and color cartridges (and I've always used genuine Epson cartridges - sooo classy of them to try to blame their own consumer). Thankfully, did not waste any money sending it to a service shop.Got the exact runaround when I contacted Epson. By being aware of the problem, denying it, and encouraging the sale of cartridges, they are committing fraud. Do I hear class action lawsuit?!?

I like many others have had more than one of these printers. The first one was replaced by Epson for the usual head clog-won't print one of the colors issue. The first one also did not print straight, texted was shewed on the paper, didn't pull the paper through straight. I was hoping the second one would be better, so far no head clogs, no missing colors but prints just as crooked as the first. Nothing is stuck in the path, both have done this right out of the box. I will be replacing this printer long before it "real" life is over.

I have been a loyal Epson user (origial Stylus Color, Photo EX, 880, c80, c84) and always recommended them to my friends. Many of the ones I originally recommended were c84's. Boy do I feel bad now though. Of the people that bought them, 95% have failed with bad print heads. No amount of cleaning, new ink or anything else revives them.I have now moved to the Canon camp and will not buy another Epson ever again.

After eight months of paper jams I've finally had it. I'm going with HP. This has given me nothing but trouble from Day One. Load, clunky, impossible to get the paper properly loaded. Even the popup window to show printing progress is ugly and annoying. Utterly useless! Don't waste your money on this.
