To be honest, when I first got this thing, I almost ripped my hair out setting it up. I am in IT and what I thought was broken was just how D-Link does their thing.Once I had this thing set up though, I have been very pleased. I have not had to touch it for 5 months. I've had power outages and everything and this thing just hums along doing it's thing. It just works!I use this in the living room and have it hooked up to my PS3 and Television, yes my TV has an ethernet port, it also has N wireless but I like the connection through this D-Link device better. While I have not done any "tests" per se, I believe this is as close to a wired connection to my router than I can get withoug actually having a wired connection to my router.Hopefully D-Link will give their documentation a little more thought and realize that not everyone has a background in IT. If you are a complete technophobe you may want to grab your nerdy neighbor to get this setup but if you have set up your own wireless router and have more than one internet device in your house you should be able to get this thing running.

All I can say is after 8 months and hours of frutiless effort, the DAP 1522 is going to become an office space offering. This is the most frustrating pos I have ever used. D-link tech support is non-existent. This is the last D-link product I will ever buy

I ordered this product on Wednesday using the free super saver shipping and had it by Friday. I had the unit up and running as a bridge to my Directv HD/DVR, Samsung HDTV, & Samsung Blu-ray in about 5 minutes. I pressed the WPS button on the side of the unit in one room and then the WPS button on the front of my Qwest Actiontec Q1000 router in the other room and it setup automatically in about 5 seconds. No need to enter the long WAP2 code. I placed the unit in the cabinet below the TV and the reception was very stong but the lights were bright. I then place the unit behind the TV, so that the lights were not visible, and the connection is still very strong. The ad does not mention it, but this unit also comes with a stand. I highly recommend this product.

I purchased two of these, one to use as an AP(replacing a WG102) and one as a Bridge for my entertainment center devices. I wasnt happy with media streaming to my PS3 and I was adding new lan enabled devices. I setup the AP first and it was straight forward and simple. I had it on the network and fully configured(manually) in 5 minutes and I was surprised by how much better the signal strength was in my house compared to the WG102 after reading the other reviews. Both devices came with the latest firmware(1.21) already installed so I didn't have to bother upgrading them. I do still have some a/g devices at my house so I was forced to use 2.4ghz instead of 5, I'll see how that works out for a while, I didn't realize that it wasn't dual channel when I purchased it, my bad for skimming through the specs quickly, no big deal really.Settings up the Bridge took a little longer, I wasn't happy that they really limit the manual settings in this mode so I ended up just using the WPS wizard and it worked great. I've only had them setup a short time but I'll post back up if they have any issues otherwise assume all is working well.Oh ya, and the AP is upstairs, amongst a cluster of servers and other networking equipment, while the Bridge is downstairs in the middle of a media center(TV, PS3, Cable box, DVR, Receiver) and the connection strength bounces between 95 and 100%! Impressive! The rooms are on top of each other but I expected more interference.

I needed a wireless bridge so that I could move my printer to a room with no jacks. The D-Link DAP-1522 had great reviews, and a bridge should work with any environment. Not this one.* The router's wireless settings can not be configured without Internet Explorer (a Linux user like me has to fire up a VM).* The bridge would not relay DHCP responses from the wireless network to the attached wired devices. D-Link support says that is because I am using a Linux router (though it shouldn't make a difference). If I configured static IP addresses on my wired devices, they worked great.* D-Link has not released new firmware in over a year, so I doubt that these problems will get fixed.* D-Link support was "lacking" (and don't get me started on Office Depot's awful return policy).* Custom firmwares like dd-wrt or tomato won't work on this device, so there is no easy way to correct these problems.In short, I can get it to do what I want, but it's a lot of hassle.

I have had this AP working for a few months now. It was quick to set up and has worked reliably. The only problem is very limited range. At a 30 foot distance, through two open doorways, the signal strength drops by almost 50%. I wish I had bought the 2553 model instead.

I purchased the D-link DAP 1522 Extreme to use as a wireless bridge where my AV equipment is located since I don't have a LAN connection there and it would be difficult to install one. Using the included software to configure the unit as a bridge and connect to my wireless router was effortless. I have an omni-directional wireless router/modem originally provided by my phone company nearly 3 years ago for my DSL internet connection and the D-link unit immediately recognized the router and connected to it without any problems. After configuring the bridge, I connected my Satellite DVR and Blu-Ray disc player to the bridge using Cat 5 Ethernet cables and both instantly established a connection to the bridge and set its IP Address for an internet connection. Both AV units now have a broadband Internet connection. I've found that streaming movies from Netflix direct to my disc player works smoothly as well as with my DVR for downloading and streaming on demand movies. There are occasional flickers in the movie download stream, but they are acceptable to me. I don't think any DSL or cable modem internet connection is going to provide near perfect movie download streams. I have about the fastest DSL connection available for downloads which is approximately 6 mbps. If you have less I cannot vouch for how fast your connection will be. I'm sure I have some degradation in connection speed with this unit, but I don't find it noticeable at this point. I've even downloaded a firmware update direct to my disc player and that went smooth as well.If you do not have a LAN connection where needed, this is an excellent choice for getting the needed connection via your wireless router. With its 4 Ethernet ports, you can easily hook up four devices if needed.This unit also works as a wireless access point. I have not used it for that purpose and assume it would work well for that as well, but cannot provide any experience as a user.

After receiving the unit and reading the instruction for installing it and following the directions. I could not get it to recognize the Dap 825 router. After many tries I called the customer department and was connected to a rep that new what was wrong and guided me through a setup that worked the first time. I'm using this in bridge mode to connect a couple of wired devices to my wireless network, and no matter how I tweak the settings I can't get my upload or download speeds to be more than 0.20 Mbps. My laptop and cell phone (and other friends' laptops) connect just fine to my existing 802.11g network. I exchanged a few emails with D-Link technical support, but they've asked that I call them now to continue troubleshooting. It isn't worth my time. I'm just going to throw this thing away and buy a better brand.As an aside, the web admin pages aren't even valid HTML so I can't administer this thing via Firefox on Linux. I had to borrow my neighbor's Windows laptop. They didn't even get the freakin' built-in admin site right!

Using the latest firmware, I have had no problems with throughput and up time. The connection experience is less than optimal. Had the all too common problem of not being able to connect to neither the DNS name nor the product's fixed IP without hardwiring it to my router and a laptop. Once connected via patch cable, I was able to manually configure and implement the DAP-1522 as a wireless bridge for my home theater and PS3. Not perfect, but a solid part, once you have it setup.

Pros:-Pretty easy firmware upgrade.-Seems to work fine as bridge w Directv. Haven't yet tried multiple ethernet-connected items.-After IP addresses were changed, pretty easy connection to Asus router. Didn't use WPS, but nice to have.Cons:-For bridge mode, can't have home network IP starting at 192.168.1.x. Bridge mode uses static IP of 192.168.0.50.-Blinking red light to indicate bridge mode. Keep having to remind myself that there's no problem.-108 pg manual is over 7MB. Hasn't anyone heard of reducing file size in Acrobat?

I have a PS3, X-Box 360, and a WD Live Plus attached to this little device, HD media streaming, online gaming work with no lag, I hooked this up to a WNDR3700 router, the WPS button worked perfect with between the DAP1522 and the WNDR3700 router.Awesome little unit..

Overall I'm quite satisfied with the the performance of the DAP-1522 that I purchased a second one. The first installation took some time, but after figuring out what was required, the second installation was a snap. Both units are installed in bridge mode. One is connected to a computer, a Samsung television, a Samsung Blu-Ray player and a TivoHD. The second has a computer, a Dell network printer and a network drive (D-Link DNS-323). Our router is a Netgear WNR-3500. Range appears better than with the USB adapters (D-Link DWA-140) I had originally installed on the computers. Speed is noticeably better although I don't have hard numbers. I have no issues streaming Hulu at 480p and transferring HD programs from the Tivo to the computer and then to the network drive are faster than before.For me, the installation instructions were confusing at best. I'll note now that I'm neither an expert nor a novice when it comes to technology. After an hour or so of initial frustration, I called customer service, but that was ultimately a waste of time. Here's what ended up working:I connected our laptop to the bridge with an ethernet cable and assigned the laptop an IP address of 192.168.0.100 with the usual subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. I could then get to the bridge webpage (192.168.0.50) in order to configure it. Using the wizard, I manually configured my wireless network making sure to save settings before moving to a different tab. I did have to enable SSID broadcasting on my router, since the bridge did not seem to work with SSID broadcasting disabled. On the network settings tab, I left the LAN connection type as Static IP, changed the access point IP address to 192.168.1.50 and input the default gateway as 192.168.1.1 (same as the router). I saved and closed out. The page doesn't update since the IP address is now changed. I restarted the bridge and reset the LAN settings on the laptop to automatically assign an IP address. I disabled WiFi on the laptop and bada bing, bada boom... I'm surfing the web. I did the same thing for the second bridge but assigned it an access point IP address of 192.168.1.51. The last thing to do was connect the devices to the bridges. Only the TivoHD needed to be reconfigured. Everything else worked fine right from the start.

Properly setting up this product isn't easy, but its tolerable if you have any networking experience.The reason this gets only one star from me? I have gotten this thing to bridge wireless connections on my PC, XBOX 360, and PS3, but the connection has never stayed active for more than 10 minutes and the device must constantly be reset to make it work again. Frankly I'm tired of trying to figure why it doesn't want to work with my other network devices, and if I could get my money back from D-Link I would.

Unfortunately I had to return the DAP-1522 back to Amazon. I had intended on using it as a bridge for getting my Sony 3D HDTV and blu-ray player connected via wireless to my wireless router. However the signal strength was far too poor to pick up a decent signal. Each time I tried to stream HD movies, it would constantly hiccup or completely loose signal. The router was only 1 floor up in the house.I'm thinking about trying one of Netgear's powerline adapters instead.

Worthless piece of junk. Have to restart this device daily or more frequently to have any chance of having it function. useless as a repeater; not much better as an access point. Havetried down-grading the firmware, with no luck, and after speaking to a (fairly smart) tech support aganet re-upgraded to the most current firmware. again with no change.Unless you're very technically savvy & willing to spend an inordinate amount of time "tweaking" the settings, I'd stay far away from this device.

This is the only product like this. I have hooked my directv to it, my blu ray dvd, my lcd tv, and my roku to this device which are now hooked to my wireless network and have internet access. If you have a wireless network and multiple devices with RJ45 jacks located in one area that you want to hook to the internet then this is what you want. The manual is good but could have been written a little simpler.

The DLINK DAP-1522 is a great addition for a home network when connecting anything to a wireless router that only has a wired ethernet connection. It can connect game boxes, blue ray players, TVs, etc. that have an external ethernet port. The unit is expensive for what it does. The network bridge runs automatically once setup is completed. Troubleshooting networking problems can be complicated requiring some experience in configuring network protocols and routing. I use this unit with a DLINK DIR-655 router.

My problem is my DIR-825 A1 doesn't provide a strong enough signal to reach my basement (there's a partial slab in the way, so I know it's a tough reach). After reading the spec's of the DAP-1522 on D-Link's website, I bought this thinking it would allow me to improve my basement coverage. Basically, I wanted it to act as a repeater for the wireless devices in the basement.Unfortunately, the device is NOT a wireless repeater. It has to be wired on one side and wireless on the other. If it's wired to your local LAN and transmitting on the wireless, D-Link calls this AP (Access Point) mode. If it receives a wireless signal and distributes wired Ethernet to remote devices, D-Link calls this Bridge mode.So figuring using two D-Link devices would give me a better wireless signal, I put the DAP-1522 in the basement in Bridge mode, then I tested the PS3. The internet connection was even worse. So I moved it upstairs and connected it next to my DIR-825 in AP mode. I tried configuring it to the same wireless network name as my DIR-825 in an attempt to boost the signal, but the two networks just competed with each other. Then I made it a different wireless network, but that was no better than the DIR-825's signal.So I called D-Link to see if there was a way I could use the DAP-1522 to boost the wireless signal of the DIR-825. At first they said yes, but after several more calls, it turned out that the answer was really no. Reminded me of that Monty Python Cheese Shop episode...So a little more research showed me that D-Link had a newer model of my DIR-825, the B1, and according to TomsHardware, this new model had much better wireless range. So I bought one of the new models, and lo and behold, my wireless signal is now working in the basement.Hopefully this review will save someone some money.

I'm not a real propeller-head and found the network connection a little tricky to set up. For me it wasn't clear that the Dlink one-touch button connection had made the "hand-shake" with my router. Once up, I like it. Takes a video stream from my Dlink "Dual Band" router without error. In short, I would recommend this product.I have noticed that after the 5GHz band was up, that it may interfere with the signals other devices are using. Doesn't block them, but may be reducing their range.Again, I'm not a techie and it just might be that it's the phase of the moon or alignment of the stars messing things up :-)

I didn't have any of the set up challenges some other reviewers have posted. This device was very easy to set up (even manually). The performance is awful, though. I am using it as an AP, with only two laptops connecting to it. The connection speeds are painfully slow. I've already spent another $45 with another vendor to buy a TRENDnet TEW-637AP - dunno what I'll do with this POS.

I bought this DAP-1522 to serve as a bridge, off my DIR-655 router, for streaming media content to an entertainment center.Set-up would have been easier if the wizard could successfully handle bridge mode.Push button connect also failed with the selector in bridge mode, but after reading others' reviews, I was already expecting to go through manual setup anyway.As it turned out, manual setup was no big deal, and I had a full bandwidth connection established in a reasonably short time.I pulled up the Netflix menu on a Blu-Ray player, started streaming an HD movie, and the buffer screen flew by in a few seconds... the throughput is excellent.It has been installed for a couple of weeks now without a glitch. I am pleased.

Good machine, but the seller send a open box instead of brand new one, watch out the seller, the DAP-1522 is good. Five star for DAP-1522.or One Star for seller

Just got this Bridge/AP from Fry's this past Saturday and was pretty excited to set it up for my Xbox360. Also if you hurry up Fry's had it for [...] (deal)..Well it's not very hard to setup like others here have posted but I DID have problems. I spent over 2 1/2 hours trying to get my Dap1522 to connect to my existing wireless network which is on a WRT54G (tomato firmware).. The Dap1522 would see my wireless network when doing a site survey but for some reason my WRT54G would not see it as a device trying to connect to it.. I've must of rebooted, set to default, tried different IP setting a dozen times on the DAP1522.. Well after taking a deep breath and walking away from the problem for a bit I came back and started looking at some other settings.. And when I unchecked the MAC Cloning on the Dap1522 my problem was SOLVED... For some reason It would not work with MAC cloning checked. I have MAC filtering on my WRT54G so maybe that has something to do with it... But still doesn't explain why my Dap1522 could connect to the WRT54G but on the WRT54G didn't state DAP1522 had connected..So I thought I was in the Clear and really excited to try it on my Xbox360. So I first tested a hardwired laptop and noticed something terribly wrong. My data transfer speeds were CRAP.. 54K modem speeds.. I did speed test after speed test and confirmed my data transfers were just plain horrible. After researching online I came across a guy with a similar problem. All it was is for some reason it didn't like the Channel I was on (I was on 10). So when I switched it to 11 my speeds were as though I wasn't going through a bridge.. All in all after the troubleshooting I would say the device is running like it should and I'm able to get to Xbox Live just fine :).... I can't wait to upgrade my Router to a N model so I can take advantage of the Duo - N option on the Bridge.Hope that helps some folks with the problems..
