I purchased the DAP1522 to replace an aging D-LINK DWL-2000AP - 802.11G access point/bridge. I've been a fan of D-Link products for years now and have built my home network almost exclusively using D-Link products. Historically, I've found that D-Link's networking devices are typically very user friendly, and for the most part pretty bug free right out of the box. Customer support has also been very good the few times I have actually needed to use it. On this particular product, the 4 port Gigabit switch capability and the upgrade to Wireless N speeds for future proofing my mixed WiFi and wired GigaBit network were the main selling points. Streaming video to a wireless N media player ... works great!! The unit also works very well in a mixed mode b/g/n environment and I have not seen any performance hits running mostly "g" and one "n" mode devices simultaneously. WPA security works well, and the unit was pretty much plug and play with my old access point, ie I set-it up with all the same security measures as my old AP, and everything that tried to connect to it did so without a hitch. Only exception was my Apple Airport Express (g-mode) that was a little stubborn in establishing a WPA-2 connection and required me to play with some of the AP's security options to get it to talk. I blame this more on the Airport Express than I do on the DAP1522 since everything else connected to it right out of the chute.I Highly recommend this product. I have had no issues at all with this product ... a very solid performer ... great job again D-Link !!

I purchased a defective DAP 1522. After spending two days with technical service talking to technicians with such heavy accents that I could not understand them, it was determined that the product was defective and I could send it back for replacement. The "company policy" is to have the customer pay to send Dlink's defective merchandise back to them. I was told that I should have read the warranty on this product before purchasing it. I went through two Dlink DIR 825 routers before I finally got one that worked. Shame on Dlink for such poor quality control and poor customer service.

The product works great now that I have it configured, and fortunately I'm a technology professional. I cringe to think of the experience of the average user. The manuals have obvious translation errors and were not written by native English speakers. The manuals also expect a certain level of knowledge of: what is a bridge, what is an access point, which do I want, what is a static IP address, etc. This short-changed documentation is why I can only give this product 3 stars. Otherwise, it would easily be a 5-star performing product.Bring your patience and this will be a great product for you once it's configured as your bridge or access point.

Received the unit as expected. Getting it work was a different issue. I had to call tech support three times before I got someone who knew how to set it up. The first tech had no clue about the product. The second time I called the tech had some idea but could not get it working either. I was getting ready to send it back when I thought I would call one more time. The third tech was very familiar and help me set it up correctly. the issue as that if I used WPS as recommened by the instructions it would not connect successfully. But if I remove the WPS it worked fine. I live in an area where I do not need to worry about someone getting on my wireless network.

Out of the box, the access point won't connect to my network. Only after upgrading to the latest firmware will it connect. And, once connected, it only passes traffic for 2 minutes, then stops working.The web based administration doesn't work on Firefox, only Internet Explorer.

Pros: Great access speeds to machines on my home network and the internet. Plenty of ports to connect all of my ethernet-ready home theater devices to the network. Nice price. Very good customer support.Cons: Set up was not so simple as the instructions led me to believe. The push-button set up simply did not work.I bought this unit to connect home theater equipment and a DirecTV DVR to the internet without having to run cables through the house. So far I am very pleased by the results! The connection between this unit and the DIR-655 Wireless router is 1.0Gb/s providing MUCH fast access between my media player and desktop (containing my media files) then using it's built-in wireless G connection.After struggling with the set up process for a while, I finally decided to call D-Link technical support. They were very professional, knew the equipment well, and had me up and running in just a few minutes.Overall, very pleased.

I am an advanced computer guy, but the configuration for the bridge mode is difficult. Once configured, it worked very well.

Does great for HD VOD.Works very well with Cat6cables. I use this withDIR-655 very pleased.Was on phone with supportwhen setting up.Needed a littlehelp because I'm new to WIFI. Wouldhighly recommend this !!!!!!!!!!

just installed 2 of these in my home network (one as 802.11n only access point @ 5ghz, the other as a wireless bridge). setup for both took about an hour, fairly painless. got the N network up and running with no issues. the bridge connected to the AP quickly and without a hitch. i did a file copy between 2 desktops via the 802.11n wireless network, Vista says an average of 8.77 mbps, and a 32.7 gigabyte ISO file took 1 hour and 6 minutes to copy without any hiccups. this should be more than ample to stream a blu-ray movie over the wireless N network.edit 07/23/09: interestingly enough when i switched the band from 5ghz to 2.4ghz the transfer rate increased to an average of 10.7mbps. the same 32.7 gig file completed a wireless transfer in 52 minutes.

Waiting a month to receive this backordered item I really, really wanted the DAP-1522 to work. It was the perfect solution to my wireless needs. Unfortunately, I never got this to work as a bridge with my D-Link DIR-655 router. After messing with it for a long time I then spent over an hour on the phone with D-Link tech support trying to get this to link to my router. After spending more than an hour with tech support and trying everything he could think of, the tech person declared the bridge was defective.The product's quick set up guide seemed too good to be true. It simply said to plug in the unit and push the "WAP" button on the side and wait for it to automatically link up with your router. In fact it was too good to be true because it never worked.Internet searches on this product are hard to come by because this item is so new and hard to obtain at this point, but I have found other instances of people with similar experiences. After going through multiple procedures with D-Link tech support another person had the tech also tell him his DAP-1522 was defective. In that case he received a new unit and also had the same problem.I am not sure what the issue is, but the D-Link DAP-1522 bridge ought to effortlessly link up to a D-Link DIR-655 router. I could not get it to link. I anticipate waiting another month to obtain a replacement but I'm not optimistic at this point a new one will link up any better, but I'll try. As I said, I really needed this thing to work, and I'm quite disappointed it doesn't seem to work.UPDATE: I have since received a replacement from a different vendor on Amazon. I am happy to report that I quickly linked up to my DIR-655. As a result, I hooked up my flat panel, my PS3, and my HD-DVR to the bridge. It works like charm and I'm very happy with the setup. Therefore, I'd upgrade from one star to 4 stars. I'm holding one star back because I originally received a defective unit.

After reading the mixed reviews I was a bit worried but this thing does as advertised and does it well. Put 4 ethernet ports wherever you need them using 2.4 or 5GHz wireless N protocol. Some have complained that signal strength is weak in 5GHz mode but that is not all telling. 5GHz band uses a shorter wavelength that doesn't penetrate walls as easily. It also is a very clean band (unlike 2.4GHz), so there isn't a lot of noise to mud up the signal. that means you don't need a strong signal to get 300mbps throughput (or close to it). I get 300mbps with 52% signal on my laptop's internal 5GHz card, and this (at 64%) streams HD video to my netflix player at maximum throughput. It works perfectly.I know there is no external antenna, but it doesn't need one. The signal is clear, fast and never drops.If you need ethernet ports where you can't run wires then this is the next best thing. The 5GHz band help achieve throughput that beats 100 base/t wired networks!The bonus part is all I did to set up my encryption (WPA2) was press the little button on both the bridge and my router. Everything was then automatic!

I'm a network engineer, an owner of an IT company that does networking, servers, firewalls, etc, for a living. So it's not as if I don't know what I'm doing. Yet both myself and, after a couple hours of beating my head against a wall, Dlink support, were unable to get this to perform with another Dlink product, their DWA-160 USB adapter.Even with every setting manually hardcoded to what Dlink promises will get the 300MB connection (and yes, I understand theoretical max vs. real world) I could not get a connection to display better than 103 to 108MB. And real time file transfers? About 750KBPS. A mere fraction of the speed I already was getting with my older 802.11g network.Hugely disappointed with this product, wish I had the success that others had reviewed here, but it just was not meant to be in my infrastructure here at home. Time to start shopping for a differnet manufacturer's unit and see if I fare any better.

This unit thinks it can get everything from your router/gateway. If you run your own DNS server, it will be useless outside of your internal network, even with a static IP.

I just received this 3 months ago. First of all the performance is nothing like advertised. 2nd, the range is abysmal, my kids computer only 15' away separated by drywall could not connect to it reliably. My Macbook Pro (only 2 feet away from it had many problems printing to LAN attached printers (the problem came and went with the DLink WAP). My Wifi-equipped TiVo had the same problem (LAN attached TiVos had a hard time seeing the WiFi-equipped TiVo).Fortunately, last week it died after only half working for 3 months. I replaced it with a Linksys G WAP. It's actually faster, has a much better range, and no more weird printer or TiVo problems.If you have a sophisticated setup and need WiFi access > 20' away, then please avoid this product.

In the consumer networking realm there's very little that compares to this product - it fills a much-needed niche.My setup: I have a wireless-n router in a closet, and I have a few spots in my house where I have a cluster of networked devices. For example, my office has a few computers; my entertainment center includes a laptop and a ReadyNAS NV+ that serve up digital media; etc. - you get the idea.In each case I could get wireless adapters for each location, but as anyone who's tried to do this more than a couple of times, getting wireless adapters to work is a hit-or-miss situation - you might get lucky and have everything work perfectly, or you might not.Enter this great little device. Because it has 4 GigE ports on the back, it can serve as a bridge from my router to each of the cluster of devices that I have. And instead of trying to set up all the wireless adapters, I just set up the DAP1522 once, and it works for every one of them.From a pricing perspective it's probably a wash, but from an ease of install and config perspective - it's way better.One last note: I considered the other bridge-like options out there (Netgear's WNHDE111 pair, the Linksys gaming adapter) but they were either more expensive or less capable (fewer, slower wired ports) or both.

I really wanted to like this device but my new all-N all-Dlink network had to be all-returned. I connected the DAP1522 to a new DIR655 Dlink router and also a notebook with a Dlink DWA652 N adapter. First surprise: The notebook was losing signal 3 rooms from the router. Next to the router the throughput was never stable, ranging from 130 MBps to all the way down to 13 MBps. I connected the DAP1522 and the maximum rate I could get was 81 MBps, 10 inches from the router. Moved the DAP1522 to my home theatre, 30 feet from the router but separated by 4 walls, and the rate came down to 13 MBps, signal at only 35%.Called Dlink support and spoke to levels 1 and 2, reconfigured everything 4 or 5 times, tried several different channels, with or without QOS, WPA or WPA2, N-only or GN-only. We probably changed and tried everything that could affect the performane and finally came to the conclusion that nothing else could have been done.I live in a condo but there is no wireless phone and the microwave was never on. It's possible that something was affecting the performance coming from some other unit but isn't the system supposed to be imune to external interferences ?I wanted the DAP1522 to be used as a bridge to link my Tivo S3 and Bluray player through ethernet. It did work but the performance was worse than before with my old wireless G network. I'm pretty sure that walls and cabinets played an important role in my disappointed experience with a brand new Dlink all-N wireless system.

I bought this item to provide an internet connection for my Directv DVR. I followed the instructions and the access point quickly connected to my existing wireless network. Setup was a snap and the downloading speed is very fast. Now I have a place to plug in other devices near my entertainment center as well.

HI all. Happy New Year.Everything these days has an ethernet port and not necessarily is wireless. The solution is here....this bridge paired with an D-Link DIR-655 router is the best answer, in my opinion.I had apple base stations and ditched them for the DIR-655 and the DAP-1522. See my review for the DIR-655.The DAP is very easy to pair with the DIR and works flawlessly. I have 4 devices plugged in to the ethernet ports on the back....a xbox360, a ps3, a blu-ray player, and a dish-network box. I have done some speed tests and I am impressed...I am getting well over 150mbps locally. The DAP is 1 floor and about a total of 100 feet away from the router. NO ISSUES.I wont go into too many details on setup...but I do recommend a firmware update on this right out of the box...as I would with any new hardware. If you buy the router...update that also...first things first. ;-)Great product, great pricing.My only issue....bright led lights...but there are ways to overcome that problem with tape, etc....Check it out....its the same price as a wireless adapter for the xbox 360...but you get 3 extra ports. :-)GREAT GREAT GREAT!.

I purchased two DLINK DWA 652 network adaptors and two DLINK DAP 1522 wireless access points (to go along with my new DLINK DIR 825 router). The wirless N does operate as reliably or consistently and sometimes not at all. I could not receive N band transmissions and DLINK was not able to fix the problem. In addition, the software causes system hangups.What made this experience worse is the long hold times to get a DLINK tech. And, they tell you to try something and then call them back (more long holds)I've given up on these and on DLINK. They are going back to Amazon.

I needed a wireless bridge to connect my downstairs network where my FIOS connecting comes into the house (and where my Media Center PC is located) to my upstairs Office Network where my Workstation, Laptop and Windows Home server live.The initial set up was easy enough if you have a little previous knowledge on wireless networks. I am using it to bridge my 11N network to a D-Link DGL-4500 Router. So far, after a couple of weeks, everything appears very solid. I'm not seeing the short drop outs that my old 11g bridge use to see. I am getting excellent speeds going over the wireless bridge as well. About the same as I see on any 11N device attached to my network.The Gigabit switch is great as well. I get great transfer rates when copying or backing up files to my Windows Home server sitting on the same switch.If you need a fast, solid wireless bridge this is a good solid choice.As usual, Amazon delivered the product in a quick, timely manor. Usually I order my tech gear from places like NewEgg but it was a bit cheaper from Amazon. Less than a 2 day turn around to Massachusetts with free shipping. Service like this keeps me coming back to Amazon.

I am using this wireless bridge in my family room as I didnt want to run wires in my older home. It actually works better with my Netgear wireless N router than it did with a DIR-855 D-Link wireless router. No complaints. Setup was pretty straightforward.

BEWARE! I spent 3 days trying to figure out why this DAP-1522 didn't work with my DI-524 router- both DLink products. I spent a good hour with tech support, and they were respectable. However , there were useless as I figured out their problem for them. I had the latest firmware for both the router and the AP. WPA still did not work. The PSK was being validated by the router, and the wap was connected. However, the wap would attempt to update private keys, and apparently the router didn't respond, and the wap dropped connection, because it wasn't a valid handshake. My other wireless adapters had no problem connecting to the router. So, the wap must have some special handshake with it that only certain routers will understand. So I had to buy the DIR655 and give it a try. It worked like a champ in seconds. So, you can save yourself time and effort if you buy the dir655 or whatever upgrade you choose to your 802.11g router, at the same time you buy the dap1522. Once I had it working, it has been working great. But be prepared to buy other products so that you can run a secure wireless network with the dap1522. Afterall, it really isn't completely backwards compatible.

I have had this little gem up and running for about a month. Set up was a real pain, but after having nothing to do for about 8 hours, i was able to get this device up and running.The print server works just fine. i use it on a multi function printer, but have not tried the multifunction part yet.4 stars only because of the set up was a royal pain.
