it is a great device connecting all the devices that needs wifi, and we now brother an updated sibbling for the bedroom. Operates much the same as per the older sibbling, but a lot less blinking lights, which is great for a bedroom environment. Love that the price came down from $100 (2010). Simple, compact and does the job.

I just received my unit today, so don't know about performance and reliability much yet. However, I took a LONG TIME getting it working. I want to provide things I realized slowly when installing with my MAC for use as a Bridge with an existing Access Point and thought might help others.1) The IP address of the network connection of the direct connected computer used for setup must be set at 192.168.0.xx, and its subnet mask at 255.255.255.0, not just the computer itself, per my experience, even though the Quick Install Guide says the PC IP address must be this value. Accessed through the Network element of System Preferences for the Ethernet configuration.Maybe that's obvious to most people or maybe I'm still not clear on what the difference is, but that's what made my connection for the Web Based Configuration Utility work. I was slow on getting that. And different documentation from D-Link provides different pieces of guidance on this.2) Even though using it as a Bridge, one has to also go through the Access Point configuration (with the switch on the 1522 set to AP) to get some things set up correctly. I needed to configure it for 2.4 GHz and channel 6 (per my Access Point configuration) in this manner before I switched it to Bridge and completed the configuration.3) In Bridge configuration (page 48 of the User Manual describes this), because my Access Point didn't support Wifi Protected Access I had to use the Manual mode in Bridge configuration. And, of course, I had to know the SID name used by my current Access Point, the type of security and the password. I had the wrong security type for awhile. I finally opened the Access Point connection and read the info correctly there.I used the Site Survey function and found my network OK, but I had the channel number and security type wrong, so it still showed up in Status as not connected. It doesn't tell you that it isn't all working when you enter the wrong Security type. It just goes ahead.(So Status in the 1522 Web-based configuration utility was really useful to me to see how I was doing.) So I had to go back to Access Point configuration to correct that and then back to Bridge mode. Having done those right, it connected per the Status and I had success at last!I'm using it with my Dish DVR right now.I hope this helps some do configuration more easily than I did. If I missed the step by step procedure that explains all of this, feel free to point that out.

My main network/wireless router is the DAP-655, and it works ok(some dropping). I use the DAP-1522 as a bridge to the PS3 and Direct TV HD DVR. The setup was easy enough (sorry I'm an IT guy), my only issue; I had changed the network password and forgot that I had, so I keep trying to use the old one and thought it was a DAP-1522 issue. The only thing that I can suggest is that if you are using it in Bridge mode, then use the wireless wizard to make setup that much easier. The 655 and 1522 work very well together, and my PS3 is streaming HD content so much better and fast now.

Being a seasoned computer professional I thought that for me such a banal addition would be a snap. Well, it was not. Let me correct: it still is not, I am still in limbo. Now in 3rd day I still cannot get the DAP-1522 to talk to my DIR-655, rather I talk to D-Link support. Here is why:The Push-Button connection did not worked. The DIR655 kept blinking blue light and than it stopped. On the DAP-1522 the blue light is still on.The "Manual Setup" connection was equally short living. To that end you need to connect a cable between the bridge and router. Otherwise when you type [...] (removed by Amazon and replaced by the dots! And so we do not know anymore what name that was!), the browser forwards to some scavenger web site by that name. Also note: Should you change the name of the device, use that name in the process, not 'dlinkap' as suggested in the manual! A small issue "forgotten" in that DLink's manual.Once connected using the cable to DR655, I used browser to set the SSID, but the only button visible was the "Save Settings"! I tried to change the menus, investigate but the device only went into hang, browser said "waiting for dlinkap" etc, etc... It is difficult to recollect details of the many hours of "fight" with this horrible device. Finally after I managed to enter our SSID and the security model using the "Install Wizard," I hoped for a moment there for a success. But the device still would not connect to DIR-655. Even worse, after these operations I could not connect directly to DIR-655 any longer, unless I unplugged the connection to DAP-1522. Otherwise my system popped warning about a conflicting IP address on the network. What a disaster. The message was: "192.168.0.1 says 'The Network connection seems to be down. Press OK to try again.'" Of course pressing on OK did not helped at all. The message just reappear.I am very disappointed by D-Link here, they used to be better, DIR-655 is a robust workhorse. I read these positive reports here about DAP-1522 with some astonishment and wonder what went wrong in my case?I have found a perfect solution to the problem: Pack it, ship it back, forget it. I will rather make a hole in a wall and install a cable to the other end of my house. And so I live happily ever after!

I have been using this unit as a bridge connected to my 5GHz wireless network (Netgear wndr3300) for over 6 months, with 3 devices connected to it, without any problems. Setup was easy enough using the WPS method. I later went into the unit to manually make a couple of tweaks: I reduced power output, turned on DHCP for IP assignment (static by default, 192.168.0.50), and made sure MAC address translation was turned on (needed to get Windows HomeGroup to work between computers). This unit has been rock solid for me. I have never had to power cycle the unit. I also love the fact that it has 4 GBit ethernet ports. Most other bridges have only one, or two at most, and they are usually 100MBit ethernet ports. Also, it has good range: I have been running it in my basement which is one floor and two walls away from the wireless router and still getting 8MBytes/sec speed. The only complaint I have about the unit is the fact the the wireless ready light on the front panel continuously blinks when it is ready: Very annoying. A solid ready light would have made more sense.

I ordered this to bridge my wireless internet (coming from a D-Link DIR-655) to my entertainment center. I needed ethernet for a blu-ray player, media player and a Wii. I thought this would work well since it was the same brand and had gigabit ethernet.I got it and installed it. Install was easy, just hit the WPS button on the router and then the bridge and boom. Turn the switch on the back to bridge mode and plug in the items that need an internet connection. This item has good features, including QOS which I used to set priority for the items that would be streaming data rather than just needing a connection. The main thing I needed this for was the media player, I needed access to the 1TB Western Digital My Book World Edition (which I highly recommend BTW). I have all my movies, music and photos on that drive and want to use the network to access them on my media player and watch movies on my tv. Should have been pretty simple.Well, it worked at first. The media player tested the network speed and found it to be ok and started playing movies!! It was great!! I watched about 10 mins of a movie and went off to do other things. Later that night I sat down with my wife to watch a movie and it hung at the network testing screen. I gave up after 10 minutes of trying and put the movie on a USB stick just so I could watch it.The next day I sat down to trouble shoot it. I made sure all the settings were correct (they were) and I plugged in my laptop to the bridge and turned off the wifi on my laptop, using only the bridge for access. Running a speed test showed the problem, 0.10 mb/sec download speed with an upload speed of 1.33mb/sec. Normally I get 8-10 mb/sec download with my wireless connection. Pages loaded as if I was on dial up. It was horrid. So I did what anyone would do, I called d-link. Short wait time and helpful people but we never could get it to work. They confirmed that my firmware was correct and that all my settings were correct. I even tried connecting the bridge to two different wireless routers, thinking maybe that was the problem but that didnt help. I also tried different Cat-5 cables to no avail. We were never able to get it to work OR to determine why it didnt work. According to their level 3 tech, it should just work. Especially with the same brand router!!It's going back to Amazon. I printed the RA today. I will use the refund to buy a 50ft run of Cat-5 and a Cat-5 wall plate and I will just hard wire the whole thing from the router.I really wanted this to work...I truly did. Great reviews everywhere I read before I bought it but it just didnt work for me. Honestly, I think it was just a bad unit. Still, it left a bad enough taste in my mouth that I wont try it again, with this bridge or any other.

This is a great bridge/AP that holds the connection very well for a wireless device with no external antennae. This has provided very good speeds and has been reliable for the 5 months I have owned it. The only snag I had was the initial setup. My computers had a hard time finding the device for the initial setup. It took several power cycles of the DAP-1522 and several attempts before it actually was able to find the device, and the included documentation did not really help. After the 4th or so run through of the instructions it finally came up. I set up the product with no further issues and it has been running well since. I would recommend this product and am very happy with the purchase.

Replaced an older wireless access point with this DLINK DAP-1522 and I'm very pleased with it so far. I've only been using it for a week now but the wireless signal on my Droid and my notebook computers has drastically improved over my previous 802.11G device. I was leary of the internal antenna, but it is much better than my previous AP with external antennas. I get a very good signal outside my house at pretty good distance. If you're worried about an internal antenna, don't worry! It works great!I have extensive experience with networking, so installation was easy for me. I did not use the disk that comes with it. My home network uses the 192.168.1.xx IP subnet, but this device uses 192.168.0.1 by default, so I changed the address of my notebook PC to match the Access Point's subnet (192.168.0.2). Then plugged the Access Point directly into the notebook, pulled up my browser and typed in [...] and was able to enter the setup menu & change the IP address to 192.168.1.1. (if you do this, make sure whatever you change it to is not being used by your cable/dsl router)I would guess that the disk that comes with the unit would simplify this if you're not sure how to do it manually. I am using this unit strictly as a wireless access point, but it can also be used as a bridge for other wireless ready devices such as a Blue-ray disk player, satellite / cable box, etc.The unit is very compact and also comes with a little stand if you have little space & need to stand it up vertically. The front lights are pretty bright, I wish they were a little less bright but it's in the living room, so not a big deal. I installed it inside an entertainment center on a shelf that is enclosed with a glass door. The signal was not affected at all.Bottom line, so far I'm very happy with it. Awesome signal range, nice looking and takes up very little space.

Generally very happy with value for money.Range is very good.Only 2 things not perfect:1) only does 2.4mhz or 5mhz, not both at once2) if you want to limit access to specific Mac addresses, you need to add the Mac address(es) of your wireless router or broadband modem to the list of allowed Mac addresses. This is not mentioned in the manual and is not something that you should usually have to do.

Purchased the DAP-1522 to be used in 'bridge' mode. I had a terribly hard time understanding how to get everything configured with my wired/wireless home network, and the 1522 to communicate wirelessly with my Verizon MiFi 2000 for Internet connectivity. Ultimately, the different computers and printer are networked with a Linksys WRT110 router, which provides DHCP to the network. MiFi is not part of the home network. The Linksys WRT110 is ethernet cable connected to the DAP-1522. For computer internet connectivity, the 1522 then communicates wirelessly with MiFi to port the internet to the home network. With the MiFi turned off, I can still share files between computers, and print the network printer. Without the DAP-1522, I would have to have the MiFi turned on all the time to network the home. I didn't want to rely on the MiFi to be used as a router in the home, only an internet gateway. The DHCP feature of the MiFi is turned off, and only used as an internet gateway.

I was going crazy trying to connect this AP to my D-Link router using WPS. NOTHING worked and I couldn't even set it up using a browser after connecting it to my computer using an Ethernet cable. Then I turned of Windows Firewall, and everything immediately worked. So turn off Windows Firewall before attempting to set up this AP, using Windows 7, click on the Start button, do a search for Windows Firewall, turn it off in the three profiles, then it'll work very well. Turn the firewall back on when done.I'm using this to connect Vizio Internet-ready TV to my network to use Netflix, Amazon, etc.UPDATE:One day it would work fine, and the next day - with absolutely nothing on the network changed at all - my Vizio TV would not connect to the network. Anyway, I'm using ZyXEL Powerline to connect the TV to my network and it works perfectly every day.

Avoid NorAm International Partners!!!! I purchased this product from amazon and it was stated to be in "NEW" condition. When I received the product it was in "USED" condition. The power supply had oviously been unpacked and used with dust and dirt on it. The device had obviously been out of its wrapping as well. I talked to Amazon customer service and ask that a complaint be filed against this seller. I have noticed frequently that this is becoming a common complaint in the reviews for 3rd party sellers on Amazon, that they post products as new and then send a used product. Fortunately, Amazon customer service is great as they took the return and refunded my money. This is none the less more than an inconvenience so hopefully Amazon will take action against these sellers.

We have a 2wire router that came with our Uverse installation. It works fine, but the wireless signal is weak and limits wireless access to about half of the rooms in our house. The router also does not support 802.11(n). I purchased the DAP-1522 to spread wireless coverage across out whole house ("access point" mode) and provide 802.11(n) operation.Setup was confusing, as I first tried following the DLink instructions. Forget it - it was a mess. The key for me (like many other reviewers here) was to get the DAP-1522 connected directly via the included Ethernet cable to a Mac (or PC) whose IP address was set to 192.168.0.x (where x is anything but 50). Then use an internet browser to connect to (...). The setup from there was pretty simple, and the DLink documentation (a PDF on the CD included with the device) was then somewhat helpful. I set the switch of the DAP to "AP", set it for DHCP, disconnected the DAP from the Mac and plugged it into an Etehrnet jack that was connected to the router. It connected to the router no problem, and I was off to the races.Once configured, I had no problem conecting to it with other wireless devices, whether they were 802.11(b), (g), or (n). I left the wireless on the router in tact, so we can now choose which access point to connect to. We have wireless coverage everywhere now. As an added bonus, the three remaining Ethernet ports on the DAP look like switch ports and can be used for other hardwired devices. I connected our NAS to it and that is working well.

I have now purchased two of these devices from Amazon, after being so pleased with my first. (Note: The first had firmware 1.21, the second 1.40, but 1.40 is not available on D-Link's web site despite being dated 1/14/2011.)The DAP-1522s are an excellent tool to connect wired Ethernet devices to your wireless LAN. I moved from a fully-wired home to one without any wiring (and with plaster and lathe walls, the bane of wireless) and went with an Airport Extreme (Simultaneous Dual Band II) base station to form the primary network. Now I have three wireless bridges (the first is a Zyxel which works fine but was a nightmare to configure), including these two. This couldn't be easier to configure.1. Set the switch on the back to "Bridge"2. Set your computer's Ethernet port to an IP address (I used 192.168.0.111 and netmask 255.255.255.0) and connect it to the bridge3. Go to [...], log in with admin and no password, and follow the wizard setup to get it on your wireless LAN4. In my personal case, I gave the DAP-1522 a static IP address (in the block used by the rest of my network)5. Wham - reconfigure your computer's Ethernet for DHCP (assuming you have DHCP on your network!) and I was onlineIt literally took less than 5 minutes. With 4 ports, you can definitely hook up whatever you need. I haven't tried connecting it to an Ethernet switch, though, because I haven't needed more than 4 ports (yet).Wonderful device. I'm thinking of buying one more as a "Just in case" device.

This unit was paired with a DIR-655, and both were working flawlessly for a few(2) weeks before everything changed. I went to connect an external hard drive to my network for shared storage through the router, and the bridge dropped, wifi connection dropped and the unit would reset itself every minute or so. Crazy! Then the unit just stopped and the WPS button stopped working too. Wouldn't even respond to factory reset procedure. D-Link said it was most likely a hardware failure.I'm done with D-Link-with only one purchase.

This is a great wireless tool that was very easy to configure. I connected this to my Sony Bravia TV, my Sony Blu-ray player, my XBOX, and my DirecTV Satellite receiver. Installation was quick and easy. Performance is very good so far. It allows me to use many new internet features on my TV, which is awesome. Wish I would have bought this a year ago when I got my TV.The only thing we don't like is the continuous blinking lights. It has an orange light to indicate the unit is in bridge mode, and blue lights flash for each device connected to the Ethernet ports. I've hidden the bridge in my entertainment stand, but I can still see the lights occasionally. The bad part was dealing with Amazon. I ordered the item with the site showing it as in-stock, ready to ship immediately. They sat on my order for 7 days before they even shipped it. I had to contact them twice via email and complain before they shipped my product. Remember: the website showed it as in stock and ready to ship immediately. I was very upset that they didn't ship it for 7 days after I placed my order. When I contacted them they gave me some nonsense canned response saying it was still on schedule to ship and arrive by their estimated delivery date. I don't care about their ETA, I expected the thing to ship within a day or two after I placed my order. I didn't expect to sit around for 7 days before they even put the thing in a box for shipping. I was not happy. If you want this in a hurry then don't buy from Amazon, but go to a local retailer instead.

I am giving this product a three star rating, although I eventually returned it, because I could not use it to get internet access through my Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P42G10 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV. Here is my experience with this product.* I was able to set it up to work as a wireless bridge. It took about two hours. The product documentation, as many reviewers have noted, is not very well laid out. I had downloaded the user guide before I purchased and received the product to study the set up process, but the actual steps I used were a combination of steps in the user guide, the separate quick start guide and through my Windows Vista help screen. One frustrating aspect of the documentation is that some of it is written for Windows XP and some for Windows Vista. Warning: I saw no documentation for Windows 7. I also found that if I rebooted my PC after I achieved success on each sequential set up step, that helped.* I was able to connect to the internet through the Viera Cast on my Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) without any difficulty. This involved a distance of about forty feet from router to bridge.* I then tried to connect to the internet / Viera Cast on the above referenced TV. I was never able to make it work, and I don't know if the problem was with the TV, the Viera Cast server, my home network, the distance between the router and the bridge or the bridge itself. Suffice it to say that when the TV installer completed his set up, he said the network was not set up on the TV. The DAP 1522 bridge light was blinking to signify a connection, so I thought I would just go ahead and take a shot at loading Viera Cast. Let me stop here and say that I know I could have just worked with Viera Cast through the Blu-Ray player, but for firmware updates and the like, I wanted to ensure I had a TV connection as well. I also wanted to be able to check weather forecasts with fewer clicks than relying on the Blu-Ray Viera Cast connection. At any rate, the Viera Cast notification that I needed to do a firmware update came on the screen. I started the firmware update and it disconnected after about 10% of the download was complete. I never got that far into the download again with the DAP 1522. I did try the network test on the TV, and most of the time it failed or recognized the home network only. This is the reason I decided to return the DAP 1522.To conclude the story and to further create confusion as to what the source of the problem was with the TV connection, I replaced the DAP 1522 with the Linksys by Cisco PLK300 PowerLine AV Ethernet Adapter Kit. Running a network test on the TV immediately got a "succeeded" result, but my first two attempts at a firmware update disconnected from the server. The third attempt worked and I am now enjoying Viera Cast on the TV.My conclusion is that if you are experienced in working with wireless products and understand some of the implied directions, and have shorter distances between your router and the bridge point, that this product will and does work. In other circumstances, you may wish to try other options.

Functionally fine, documentation very poor, international support does not exist.I bought this to extend the range of my wireless network and connect a CCTV DVR recorder. It was bought in the USA because A) Amazon UK/Europe were out of stock B) I was visiting the USA and C) It was cheaper in USA.The USA product comes with a USA plug, not suprisingly, but I have a transformer which has been used for such USA products in the past. Not a problem. The documentation provided on set-up was positively confusing, no, it was very confused. It has patently never been subjected to any user testing. The DAP 1522 acts as a Bridge or an Access Point and quite honestly I didn't have a clear understanding of these terms before I started. The documentation makes this even worse because it uses the terms interchangebly and in some instances randomly. For example, the diagram which describes its use as a Bridge labels it as an Access Point.I found that D-Link support in the USA (using the telephone numbers provided in the box) were not interested and tried to transfer the call to UK support. I called UK support directly and they were not a bit interested. D-Link clearly operate as totally separate companies. They support different levels of the user guide, although I found no material conflicts.I have a D-Link DSL-2740R wireless router and , of course, the DAP 1522 comes with an IP address in a different range as standard. The quick set-up was not much use. I thought life would be easier if I had two D-Link boxes. Wrong assumption. The only way to set up this box is to connect it by cable to a totally stand alone PC. For set-up, it must not be connected to the router, even indirectly, in any way and this is not spelled out clearly enough in the documentation. It took much longer than it should have to get what, in reality, is a fairly simple extension of my network installed and working. It seems to work OK, and the range is everything I need. I get a good signal two large rooms away and through two fairly thick walls. Certainly a lot easier than laying cable.

I can only speak for the DAP-1522 as a bridge as I now have 2 of them but overall I'm very happy with them. Having both 2.4 and 5ghz bands is really nice. The throughput has been extremely high and reliable. I've used both the 2.4 and the 5ghz modes and both perform as would be expected. The setup of this thing is a bit more difficult than some people will probably be comfortable with. I've not used the push button set up as it didn't seem to work for me so I had to set this up manually. Plug in an Ethernet cable and give yourself a static IP of 192.168.0.50 (or anything on the proper subnet) and you should be fine to connect to 192.168.0.50 where you can access the web configuration utility. Without a static IP I wasn't able to connect so save yourself a few minutes up front!Pros:PriceCompatibility (2.4, 5ghz, A,B,G,N)Reliability (One has been up for at least a year now)Speed4 ports (some bridges only have one port and cost more)Cons:Setup isn't the easiest but it isn't terribleI hate bright blue lights...why do companies use blue LEDs? They are distracting.

Most dorms don't allow routers or other devices with their own DHCP's because it confuses the servers when devices are setting their own IPs and often addresses are copied or duplicated. This device is a perfect fit, and worked within ten minutes of opening the box. It isn't necessarily specified, but this can also work as a switch if connected to a wired connection, so both wireless laptops and wired devices like PS3s or what have you can be connected to this device and hence into the wall and to the network at large in my case. I expected this device to be sort of finicky given DLINK and the use I'm applying to it, but it worked like a charm! would recommend to a friend.

I wanted the DAP-1522 to operate in Access Point mode in order to extend wireless coverage in my 3-story home. It was purchased in Feb 2010 & has been operating ok since then so I would say the general reliability has been satisfactory. Knowing that 5-GHz operation will not penetrate walls as well as 2.4-GHz, mine is set to 2.4 GHz mode. Since I have not tested any other routers or access points with respect to transmit signal strength or receive sensitivity, I cannot comment on & compare its relative performance in that regard. It does indeed seem to enable extended wireless coverage in my home to the upper story. Since so many settings options are available, set-up can be a bit tricky even for a Geek. One must read the documentation and think in order to make the right choices. I am still using the original Version 1.21 firmware... I see an update is available. One puzzling set-up thing to me is that I cannot make the SSID invisible... it doesn't seem to be an option. In short I am satisfied with the performance of my DAP-1522.
