I purchased two of these units, because I can't stand buying proprietary accessories which I believe should be included, One for myself, another for a friend. Mine is used to hook up a samsung BDP 1600 (which samsung requires a wireless dongle for 80.00) for netflix, pandora, youtube and blockbuster access, an XBOX 360 (wireless N dongle 100.00), and soon to be a WII. Buying this bridge and not buying the ridiculous wireless dongles for these units was WELL worth it for me a savings of over 120.00. My friends is used to hook up his LG blu ray HTIB with netflix, etc capabilities. I installed both of them, using different routers with each one. These bridges are great!Installation #1:As with other reviewers, the installation can become quite tricky if you aren't really familiar with networking terms. I am extremely proficient with computers, but lack networking knowledge. The DLINK's customer service is top notch! When I set up my bridge it was very simple. I have a dlink 655 router and a desktop computer hardwired(which means there's an ethernet cord constantly attached to the router) into the router. I plugged one end of the bridge into the router and accessed the web configuration page(just type dlinkap into your address bar of your browser). Simple. The web configuration has a wizard that guides you through the entire process...I pressed the arrow button on the bridge, and pressed the arrow button on my router and done! Unplug the unit take it where you need it, plug it in, and BAM...connected...WITHOUT WIRES! My router is close to 60-70 feet away, through doors and walls. My N wireless card in my laptop reads around 3-4 bars in the room I have my bridge in, when I connect my laptop to the bridge webpages load even faster. Absolutely no hick ups within netflix on my blu ray player. Downloading content is fast.Installation #2:After feeling like I could conquer the world with the easy setup I had encountered at home, I proudly walked into my friends house to connect his unit. I figured a good 10-15 minutes like it took me would be all the time I needed to spend. Boy was I wrong. He did not have a PC hardwired to the router, so I used his laptop (if this is you, make sure you have an extra ethernet cable if not, buy one). I connected the laptop to the router (which is a linksys G router) and connected the bridge to the router with the supplied ethernet cable, and then attempted to connect to the web config page using dlinkap in the address bar. No luck. It kept on telling me that there was a connection problem with my internet. I tried hardwiring the bridge to the laptop and accessing the webpage like that, no luck. Finally after using every curse word known to man, I called customer service. HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF! They guided me step by step on how to set up a static IP so I can access the webpage (which the manual lacks), also, the bridge stayed hardwired to the laptop NOT the router while I was setting up the bridge. After a 20 minute conversation with customer service, my friend was up and running. His bridge is 20 feet away from his router, in the same room. He just doesn't like wires...I don't blame him.We both are running quality internet wirelessly without the hassle of buying every propriety accessory for all of our home theater needs. In the future, the internet will not only be on the devices I mentioned, but will also be in your tv. Samsung is currently in development to release a TV that has an operating system identical to the operating system you use on your computer. I'm sure it will have an option to buy some expensive accessory so you can have wi fi internet, but if you buy this bridge there will be no need. With 4 ports for ethernet connectivity, you really can not go wrong. Keep in mind, if you need more ports just buy a 10.00 10/100 switch, or unplug one of your devices. Hope this review helps!!

I've got a couple of these that I tried to use as wireless bridges to a DIR-655 for a while. Connection was always flaky and even when connected, I'd get much higher throughput from other wireless devices sitting right next to the bridge. Now I'm using both of them as access points and they seem to do much better in that role.Configuration and firmware updates (that blow away the configuration) always seem to be painful. Finding the right IP and connecting to its configuration page is the problem. Sometimes it takes a long time for it to start responding on the default IP so you can set it up.

I bought this unit since I needed to connect 3 computers (a Linux server and 2 iMacs) to my wireless network using a bridge. Until now both iMacs connected wirelessly to DIR-655 router, whereas the Linux server was wired using an Ethernet cable to the router. The problem with that setup was very slow network traffic between these computers, i.e. when accessing movies and other media files hosted on Linux from iMacs. I thought that DAP-1522 would be a good choice as it has 4 gigabit ports and is dual band (at some point I plan to upgrade DIR-655 to a dual band router). Now the reality. I have been testing this unit for 2 days and noticed very poor performance. Both DAP-1522 and DIR-655 are in the same room but still DIR-655 shows on average 50 Mbit speed between these 2 units, which is far below the maximum link speed offered by this router (270 Mbit). I was getting at best 80 KB/s when downloading files from the Internet using DAP-1522 compared to about 800 KB/s when connecting iMacs to DIR-655 using Wi-Fi. Yes - this is 10 times worse performance which renders DAP-1522 completely useless. It is really frustrating that D-Link doesn't properly test their products.Another issue is that DAP-1522 can expose only 1 machine behind the bridge. All in all I'm returning this unit and will stay away from D-Link products in the future.

I needed this to replace my netgear router since I am now running a pfsense router. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it can't run dual band simultaneously. My netgear WNDR3700v3 was able to run the 2.4 and 5 Ghz at the same time. Great speed, easy setup.

I have a wireless router (Cisco E3000) and three desktop systems that I wanted to connect to my home network, but they are not wireless-ready and are too far from the router to connect via Ethernet cable. I bought this product to operate in wireless bridge mode to solve this problem, and it has worked FLAWLESSLY for about two months now. Setup was trivial, since my router has a Wireless Protected Setup (WPS) button; all I had to do was set the DLINK switch to "bridge", press the WPS buttons on the DLINK and my router, and wait a few seconds. I've never had anything be so easy to setup.I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who needs to extend their wireless network to devices that are not wireless-ready.

Bought this to hook up a new receiver to the network. Bought a receiver for my parents, and the company wanted to sell a wireless adapter for $120 extra to get wifi access for the receiver. Well it comes with an ethernet port, so I bought this, set it to bridge mode, and hooked up the receiver and bluray player. They've been streaming internet radio from the receiver's built in software and it hasn't stuttered, cut out, or quit on them for as long as they've kept the stream running. This thing doesn't lose connection with the router (a netgear coincidentally, not a dlink), and is solid with streaming media. Why pay for proprietary adapters when you can hook 4 devices via ethernet up to this thing, then connect this to your router?Setup for this wasn't super easy since my parent's router didn't have WPS. If your technical networking knowledge isn't that great I'd recommend getting this with a WPS capable router for ease of use. (WPS lets you just push a button on both devices during a small window of time and they will find each other and share settings automatically, pretty slick).Cheers

Bought this used for $45 through Amazon. I'm using this to connect my PS3/HDTV/Reciever to my DLink Dir655 router 20ft away (2 walls between the rooms). So far so good! I didn't need to read instructions or look up anything. I simply connected the device to my reciever, put it in Bridge mode, pressed the EZ connect button on the side, ran across to my router and pressed the EZ Connect button on that. (EZ connect may not be the right name for the button). After everything was setup and working ok, I switched it over to auto to see if there was any issues. There aren't. Was going to buy a snazzier bridge, but what's the use with a Dir 655? I'll upgrade when wireless is alot faster.

The main problems:- Setting DHCP mode for the Ethernet interface does not stick. Ended up setting the static IP to the one I had reserved on my DHCP server. Bad for us, because we have so many devices, we use DHCP to keep track of all of the addresses. I tried setting the setting to "DHCP" quite a few times with variations in what I did next: nothing, cycle power on the unit, move the cable to another port. In every case it would revert back to static IP mode.- The reset button doesn't reset squat. You can lean on it for 30 sec. or tap it or lean on it while connecting power (a gymnastic exercise requiring you to mash in the reset button with a paper clip while maneuvering the power connector into place with the other hand) or even yelling at the device while doing any of the above. It stubbornly reboots with the same settings. So the button is really there just to reboot the unit without having to pull the power cord. There is an option in the Maintenance menu to reset to factory settings.- The unit functions OK otherwise and we seem to have acceptable coverage all over our 10,000 sq. ft. facility. But the indicator on the front for WAP mode, which is supposed to be "on steady", instead blinks as if it is still looking for something missing in its life.

I have a Netgear dual band g/n wireless router. I have three television locations in the house, none near the router/internet input. I segregated the n band for use by these DAP-1522 devices. I have 3, one at each location, which stream to or connect Xbox, blue ray players, media center PC, and smart tv's. Once you connect the unit to any PC and set it up, you disconnect and put it in place. then you just connect up to 4 devices via ethernet to the DAP-1522 and they all connect seamlessly to your wireless router through the device, which remains essentially invisible on the network. If there's a problem streaming to these, i've stopped thinking of them as a potential bottleneck. it's just never the case. I would recommend these to anyone who wants solid streaming performance for up to 4 devices without having to get wireless cards/add-ons for all 4 or rely on their potentially lacking, built-in wireless capabilities. Excelent product for a good price.

I got this to replace the Tivo wireless N adapter for my TIVO Premiere. I had THREE in the Tivo wireless N adapters fail. None lasted a year. The last one worked for 2-3 months. They always had a mediocre signal. When the last Tivo adapter failed, I researched wireless bridge devices. I was worried because many users reported very difficult setups. I have a D-Link DIR-655 router, so I hoped that a D-Link Bridge would work fairly easily.Well, it couldn't have been easier! I followed the quick start directions and turned the DAP-1522 on while in the same room as the router. I pressed the WPA button on both device, and in less than a minute they seemed to be happy. I then moved the bridge through 2 rooms to the Tivo, and plugged in the ethernet cable, and then the AC cord, and a short time later I was done. The Tivo box had no trouble using the bridge. It acted as if it had a hardwired ethernet connection. Done. Total time to get it up and running was less than 5 minutes.I would give it 6 stars if I could.

I ordered the DAP-1522 to get an internet connection for my TV (Sony), BluRay player (BDP-N460) and Satellite TV box (Dish Network DVR type). Most other similar products have fewer LAN ports, usually one or two, so I chose this one because I wanted at least three connections. I have a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router and I have had good luck with D-Link products so that was a bonus. Since my router is single band, I cannot take advantage of the dual band capabilities of this product, but when dual band routers come down in price, I will add one to do so.Setup could not have been easier. I just followed instructions in the quick installation guide with the three-way switch set to auto. I could use the push button setup which creates a secure connection with the router. (This involves pushing a button on the DAP-1522 and one on the router.) Recognition was instantaneous, and I had my system up an running in minutes. The DAP-1522 automatically set itself to bridge mode. It took me longer to figure out the ins and outs of the Internet connection with my BluRay player and TV than setting up the DAP-1522.Performance is great so far. My router is in my office loft on the third floor of my house and the DAP-1522 is on the first floor on the other side of the house. Video from the Internet streams without problems. I have not run a full HD movie yet, but YouTube and all the other free stuff I have accessed so far has been great. (Note, I think the performance may be due to the router as much as the DAP-1522. Wireless access is great throughout my house for computers.)The connection renewed without intervention after a power outage.I am very pleased with this product so far.One thing I would note is that you need to be sure of the capabilities of your TV, players, etc. For example, my ISP provides access to ESPN3, but I cannot access it directly from my home theater because the BlueRay player does not have a Web browsing function. I still have to connect a computer for that. If you have one of the new web TVs or bluray players, you will have a wider range of access. This has nothing to do with the capabilities of the DAP-1522, but is a consideration in the purchase.

We just got rid of Qwest DSL in favor of Comcast broadband. The router/AP is in another room. My Linux box is old and I didn't want to fiddle with drivers etc to install a wireless card, I wanted something that would Just Work. This device seemed like the answer. It was.Performance is fine. The bridge is about 35 feet from the access point, through 3 interior wood and plaster walls. The extra device adds a bit of latency and reduces throughput compared to a wireless card. I took a laptop into the room and tried it both wireless and plugged into the bridge and compared through speedtest.net. Wireless, ping time averaged 9ms and download speed averaged 11 Mbps. Wired via the bridge, ping time averaged 10.5 ms and download speed averaged 7.5 Mbps. Subjectively, things feel a bit jerky on initial connection (like a web page with lots of pictures) but once a connection was set up performance is fine (streaming or long downloads).Even though my router/AP is also a D-Link device, WPS pushbutton setup did not work so I had to do things manually. The docs aren't completely clear on this but Steve's review helped a lot. The bridge comes with an IP of 192.168.0.50/255.255.255.0, so you need to set your computer up with a 192.168.0.X/255.255.255.0 address and then use a browser to connect to the bridge's IP. The Quick Install Guide tells you to use a name ([...]) but without a name resolution service this won't work.I ran the Wireless Setup Wizard per the instructions in the Quick Install Guide. When presented with the choice to do manual setup, I selected it. The steps are clear if you understand basic networking. Once I told the bridge to use DHCP, the computer could no longer talk to it. This is the expected behavior as this tells the bridge to change to a different IP address. At that point I reconfigured my Linux box to use DCHP as well, restarted networking, and all was well.Elapsed time to install was under a half hour, including dead ends and restarts. The admin UI is pretty basic but does what it needs to do.I'm happy with this device and would recommend it to someone who needs to connect wired segments wirelessly.

I would have given this Access Point 4 or 5 Stars if it didnt take me 6 hours on google to find out how to set it up. The "one touch" set up is an absolute joke. Not unless you have D-link router is it that easy. The instruction manual was written by some numb nut I.T. guy who assumes that you have a computer networking degree. You get a cd rom with it but the only thing thats good for is reading the same useless instructions on your computer screen instead of the print instructions. I had just about given up if it wasnt for a website I found with one blog entry hidden in the site that sent me to another site that had some instructions that actually worked. If you can set up your cell phone on a network router within 45 seconds if you have the Name and WEP key I cant, for the life of me, understand why they cant make the set up that easy for a stupid access point. In fact, .....there I just changed my rating from 3 stars to 1 star because I'm so pissssed off. Its hooked up now and running great. Its a lot faster than the Trendnet at 54mps that I had. Its great for BluRay player, Xbox etc. Ok, I'm calm again. I'll give it 3 stars.

I got the DAP-1522 to use as an access point to add wireless-N capabilities to my Verizon FiOS network since the Verizon router only supports wireless-G. It works well for that and functions as advertised in that regard. The range seems to be acceptable but not superb. I have the access point in my downstairs office near the Verizon router and devices on that floor all connect with 85%+ signal strength. Upstairs I get roughly 75% signal strength. I know I need to work a little on the positioning of things and I could improve the range, but I'm sort of limited due to the fixed position of the router and the devices upstairs. There's not really a great solution there. The setup on this was a little tricky. I have some older/smaller devices (like a Nintendo DS) that only supports WEP as an encryption standard so I set things up to use WEP (yes, I know WPA is better but I needed the compatibility). It turns out that you can only get wireless-N speeds if you use WPA - an undocumented "feature" and something I had to learn by calling D-Link support when I couldn't figure out why I was only getting wireless-G connections. So, unfortunately, I don't get to connect my older devices anymore since I want the speed.Getting everything else set up also took a little work, and while it wasn't hard, it was somewhat time consuming and not really as "push-button-simple" as they might advertise on the package.I've had this access point up for around two months now and have found that I can consistently and reliably connect at wireless-G speeds but wireless-N seems to be a little finicky. I can't entirely blame the access point, though: I upgraded all of my computers from Vista to Windows 7 and got wireless-N adapters all at the same time (big overhaul at once) and I've found some of the drivers for the adapters are a bit flaky so my issues very well may be related to the adapters and not the access point. I've had to reboot it a couple of times (pull the power cord, wait a few seconds, plug it back in) and when I do, I find I need to reboot/reconnect most of my network-aware devices so they'll get back on the network - they don't all magically find the access point again. I mention it because when I was using the Verizon router's built-in wireless I didn't have that problem. Again, not sure if it's the adapters or the access point, it just seems a tiny bit more fragile than it used to be.That said, once you've got the kinks ironed out and it's up and running, it works well. The administration interface is nice and easy to use. The form factor on the device is also nice - small and decent looking. If you have medium-level network experience and a bit of patience, it's a good little device. If you're an entry-level user and need to set this up, you may find yourself calling a friend for some help. I've heard the TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader (TEW-637AP) is a little easier to get running as an access point.I do wish it had simultaneous dual-band networking rather than either 2.4GHz OR 5GHz. It'd be nice to be able to make use of the lower interference on the different band but not all of my devices have the 5GHz capability so I have to use 2.4GHz and I do have some interference since I have so many other devices in that range.I can't speak to how easy this is to set up as a bridge since that's not how I'm using it. I do have need for a bridge, so now I'm considering whether I should get another one of these devices or get a router that supports simultaneous dual-band, use that as an access point, and move my DAP-1522 to be a bridge. There are pros and cons to both and I don't regret getting the DAP-1522. If you go that direction, you'll like it, just be patient and iron out the kinks.

Not a big fan of DLINK at all, but given this is the only product available for what it does I had to bight the bullet. As others have said it is by no means a plug and play event to get this thing up and running. Maybe it is if you are connecting to another DLINK product, can't say. Anyways, here are a few tips that worked for me...1. First of all to make the WPS work you have to hard wire the thing to your router, it does not work wirelessly and the instruction do not specify this2. Once tethered, the WPS connectivity works...follow what the instructions say for this part3. However, even after WPS, if your network is on 192.168.1.x you will not be able to see the router via a web browser because it is set to 192.168.0.504. In this case you will need to tether the device to your PC, and reset your PC IP address to 192.168.0.x5. Now you can connect to the device via a web browser by IP or as noted in the manual [...]6. Once connected , in the settings change the IP address of the DLINK device to something that will work on your network such as 192.168.1.50 and save the settings7. Now change your PC back to automatic IP and log off and on or do an ipconfig /renew to refresh your IP8. Once you PC is back online, check that you can connect to the DLINK via a web browser on 192.168.1.50 or whatever you set it to9. You should be all setThis is not the device for the non-tech savy person, unless you have DLINK already and it just works in that scenario. I cannot say if that is the case. Just know for other routers it will not be that simple to get up and running.

This is great product but documentation needs a lot of help. I'm very tech savvy but It took me a bit longer to setup because of one little initial mistake, but more on that later. This product works both as an Access Point (extend your wifi via ethernet) or Bridge (allow up to 4 non wireless devices via ethernet to connect to your wifi). I'm using it as a Bridge to connect my Sony Bu-Ray player so it can stream Netflix to the HDTV in the living room (the wifi router is in the room used as an office). I wish that more of these affordable devices were in the market, because many people nowadays have wifi and multiple devices in their living room that connect to the internet. So instead of spending $40-$60 to get a dongle for each of your device (Xbox, TV, Blu-Ray, etc.) you can just hook them up to one of these wireless bridge devices. I'm already using a decent router the D-Link Extreme 655. I've noticed some complaints about the performance. From my experience some of these problems are actually indicative of Wifi in general. They are not very friendly to understand or setup for the average joe. If you are streaming/downloading/gaming on multiple devices I highly recommend getting a decent router. Nowadays they are not very pricey, I say this because most of the consumer routers are really bad at effectively managing multiple multimedia streams. Also, Bridges do not extend your wifi range. For example if a wireless device (laptop or smartphone) gets lackluster wifi signal where you want to place the device, it won't magically get better placing a Bridge in that exact location. Now, the documentation is pretty bad. I made the rookie mistake of plugging in the device directly to my computer (like when setting up a router) because the documentation wasn't very clear, but once I plugged it into my router, set up was smooth from there. Still there is no excuse for D-link to have less than stellar documentation and tech support. They make good products, but what they provide for documentation doesn't cut it.

I bought this to upgrade my wireless G network to N. Since I still had some G-only devices, I had to set this up in mixed mode. The problem was that everything connected in G mode - I wasn't getting the benefit of N speed. It looked as though once one thing connected using G, the access point slowed itself down to G only. I never verified this, but that is what the empirical evidence suggests. Since this wasn't working, I reinstalled my old G access point and set this as dedicated to N only and operated them side by side. Now things were connecting using N mode, but the range was horrendous. I did a quick walkaround test with my motorola Xoom, and in every case, the G signal was coming in far stronger than the N. And if I DID connect with the N, it was slow to the point of being unusable. The only time it worked well was when I was literally in the same room.I was wondering about the lack of any external antenna. Not sure if this would have solved the issues, but this device has horrible range.I am returning it and trying a Trendnet next.

This product (and a replacement) does not work as advertised. All settings must be made manually and D-Link Tech Support cannot help with this. They claim the product works with DHCP but it does not. Also it comes preconfigured for an IP domain most dont use so you'll have to know how to change the IP domain on your computer if you want to communicate with it. Once the bridge was communicating I still had to set static IP addresses for all connected devices as DHCP does not appear to work. Again, Tech Support was of no help here as they insisted DHCP would work. Despite my sitting in front of the computer and tellng them what was happening they did not change their opinion and insisted their product was bad. I received a replacement a few days later and it acted exactly as the first. It seems setting up a bridge connection is not common despite the many connected devices on our homes, TV's A/V recievers, game consoles, etc.
