I'm fairly experienced with Home Networking so my experience may not hold true for all.I set it to Auto, plugged it into a Cat5e network jack linked to my existing router and had another wireless network setup. The signal strength is 5 bars through a drywall ceiling and a wood floor.I had to tweak a few settings and setup the WPA2 security but total time of setup was less than 30 minutes.I have had to power cycle it like I did my old one (a Belkin) and it has been going for a month.

I have a Linksys router. I chose this bridge over the Linksys because of the D-Link has four ports whereas the Linksys has only one. The instructions were not clear as to how to connect the bridge to the router. Fortunately, after pressing the router's WPS button the bridge's WPS button the two devices linked together. It wasn't entirely clear to me they were linked, but I tested the bridge by connecting a computer to it and was able to surf the internet easily.I'm not sure what I would have done if I had to connect the bridge and router manually, as the instructions looked pretty vague on how to do this, but in the end, the "auto-connect" using the WPS buttons worked flawlessly.I then moved the bridge to the room with my TV and DVR (about 50 feet away from the router), and the connection held fine. I can now download movies from the internet on the DVR and use the internet features on the TV with no problems - no dropped connections.I have a Sony Bravia TV. The TV has a software routine where the TV searches for a wireless bridge connection. The Sony software routine does not recognize this bridge and flashes a message that no bridge has been found. However, this message is irrelevant because when I ran the Sony firmware update on the TV, it downloaded the latest firmware through the bridge. It also will surf the net on the web sites (Yahoo, Amazon) provided by Sony. So don't let this "Bridge not found" message discourage you - the connection is there.The DVR downloads movies over the internet easily. I also connected a Blu-Ray player to the bridge, and updated the firmware on the Blu-Ray player without a problem.Overall, this is a nice product. I have been a satisfied Linksys user for many years, and so far the D-Link appears to be as dependable as Linksys. I would buy a D-Link again and recommend it.

Having several older computers that use wireless b or g, this allowed me to connect them to a wireless router on a different floor with no problem. I can now watch netflix movies with no buffering on a computer that using its wireless g re-buffered many times. Also my VPN connection is much more stable across the wired port of my work work computer.

I originally ordered another WAP from Cisco. I thought I would be eliminating compatibility issues because all of the other devices on my home network are from that same manf. After four days of tech support calls and still no connectivity I returned the Cisco device and bought this Dlink.No issues whatsoever. After a quick online configuration tutorial I moved it into the room where my blue ray and Internet ready TV are and... boom. All the blue lights came on and the box assigned addresses as it should. I now have access to all of the special blue ray material and internet apps provided by my player and TV without having to run cables from my router.

I use this as a wireless bridge for our entertainment center - hooked up the Xbox, DVR and BluRay to it. It works with our Belkin wireless-g router and our DSL Lite account so can't really comment on the dual band/streaming video/wireless-n features.Just some small annoyances - the 2 sets of setup instructions seemed contradictory - the quick setup said hardwire it to the wireless router to configure security; PDF instructions said hardwire it to the computer and assign the computer a static IP. Experience told me to do the latter. That's assuming you can't use the push button security feature. I had to do the manual setup b/c my son's Nintendo DS requires WEP security.Another small annoyance is the wireless bridge light on the front constantly flashes. Apparently that's normal.Love the 4 ethernet ports - others i know buy a wireless bridge with one port then hookup a separate 4-port switch at almost twice the price!

I use the unit as a bridge to connect my Directv box and my Blu Ray player wirelessly to the internet. It was easy to set up and works great.

My living room has a number of devices connected to the TV that I wanted to offer network access to, such as a TiVo HD, a Sony BD Player and even the TV itself. All 3 of those are wired devices. I could have run Ethernet through the walls up to behind the TV and installed a switch up there, but instead I (thankfully) went with one of these.It's about 30 feet away from my wireless AP (an Apple Airport Extreme located one floor above + one room away) and has excellent signal strength, even in my older home that's not the most RF-friendly structure. Great throughput, low latency, all great.I recently took the additional step of adding a Polycom IP phone connected to it, which in turn talks back to my home Asterisk PBX), with no trouble, no discernible jitter or latency problems. If those exist, typically they show up in a VoIP deployment right away. No troubles at all with it.Professionally, I've been in networking for a number of years, so while I found it a snap to setup, I can see possible difficulties for those who don't understand networking. Overall, it was very easy to setup though via a browser.

I'm using my DAP1522 as a bridge for my game consoles, and Blu Ray player about 40' away from my home office and wireless network hub. Once installed, it has run quite well in a rather static-filled environment. I have noticed that signal strength drops in the late afternoon, which is also the time that about 5 or 6 wireless networks from the neighborhood make their daily appearances on my available lists, so I'm assuming it's competition for airspace causing the drop.The pros: It runs by itself with little need to fiddle with settings or check up on it once you have it going properly. It seems to maintain good data transfer rates. Accessing the controls for the device remotely is simple and straightforward.The cons: Setting up can be a bit of a struggle. It took several tries to get it to autoconnect to my D-Link network using their pairing system. I ended up locating the thing 3 feet from my main router and running through the procedure until they finally found each other.

This just plain didn't work - attempted to set it up with a DIR-655 (D-Link 802.11n router), but without success... It was replacing an 802.11g bridge from Buffalo that had provided great service for a number of years from exactly the same location.Have never had to use D-Link tech support before, and lucky for them as I would have stopped buying D-Link products a long time ago... anyway, I spent 2 hours with a bunch of totally incompetent idiots on the phone, each time having to explain the problems I was having as I got transferred deeper and deeper into the bowels of their support structure. Ended up with a "level 3 product specialist" who was just as clueless as the rest of them. They ended up saying "return it and get another one", but frankly had absolutely no belief that the second one would work either, so decided to go with another competing product.Anyway, to cut a long story short, purchased a similar but ultimately much easier to configure product from Buffalo, who seemingly are back in the US wireless market after a hiatus caused by some legal issues. Worked first time, and been reliable since.Buffalo AirStation Wireless-N Nfniti WLI-TX4-AG300N - Bridge + 4-port switch - Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11n (draft), 802.11n (draft 2.0) externalBTW - Amazon accepted the returned device without any issues...

What a piece of junk. Attempted to use the item in bridge mode. When the device is power cycled it refuses to reconnect to the network and has to be reconfigured.

I have two of these in my home network. One lives in my entertainment center and connects my home theater PC, PS/3, and Internet radio ready Onkyo TX-NR906 receiver connected to the Internet. The other lives in my master bedroom connecting my media tank and LG BD370 Blu-Ray player to the network. They have saved me a ton of money by eliminating the need for cabling while running just as fast as I need them to. In theory these should be a no-brainer to connect to my DLink DIR-655 using the connect button. You would think so but they both required manual setup. Trying again and again they just refused to connect on their own. That's not a problem for me because I have a laptop and 20 years of professional networking experience. If you are reasonably technical you should be able to set one up in about 30 minutes even without the one touch. But do take advantage of the advanced security features in your wireless router and a long hard to crack key. Once setup and running they have been absolutely trouble free.Bottom line I recommend it to anyone with the technical know-how to setup a wireless network.

I had a couple of difficulties which with better documentation would not have been a problem. The first CS person I had was not very good, either. I called back and the next person I talked to was much better. We hooked it up to my D-Link router instead of going through the computer and I was up and running in a minute. Works fantastic! I have a Sony Internet TV but did not want to go with their recommendation after reading the reviews.

I need to connect my Xbox360 to a wireless connection for online gaming, behold the D-link DAP-1522 wireless bridge/access point... it does the job and more for the same price as the Xbox360 wireless adapter. The D-link connects my Xbox360 and have three more ethernet ports for computers and its range is excellent too. so later I will use this D-link to expand my wireless network in the house. Remember one thing, this is a wireless bridge/access point, it will not do a router's job. If you need to know more just look up the differences online. I currently only use it as an adapter for my xbox360 gaming, so I can only state that I experience excellent range, and connectivity. I have not utilized its encryption available for wireless protection while surfing the internet.

I'm a pretty advanced user/admin. I still love it when things are simple, work easily, and are reliable.I have a somewhat complex home network, with a WRT54G running Tomato as my main router, and 802.11g access point. Then I have an Airport Extreme Base Station broadcasting 802.11n 5GHz (previously 2.4GHz, more on that later) throughout the house.I had a WRT300N running dd-wrt serving as a bridge between the Airport Extreme Base Station and a remote Mac Mini, XBox 360, and PS3 that need a wired connection. The WRT300N can only support 2.4GHz and 5GHz is consistently faster. I stream HD video to the Mac Mini and XBox 360, so a high-speed connection is important.I wanted to upgrade the 802.11n network to 5GHz, so I started looking for a bridge device. I looked at the Linksys WET610N and WGA600N. Neither got good reviews, and seemed to require special configurations.I tried an Airport Express 802.11n. It maxed out at 3-4MB/s transfer, which is going to cause some stuttering on HD video streaming with 5.1 audio.Then I came across the DAP-1522. I had my doubts, as my previous experiences with D-Link were over 10 years ago, and not very good. But I figured there's litte risk, so I gave it a try.WOW. First of all, setup was easy. As I said earlier, I'm an advanced user, so I always opt for manual configuration. D-Link gives the instructions in the book to do manual setup, and they worked like a charm (set your IP to 192.168.0.x (where "x" is not 50) and browse to 192.168.0.50). I had it joined to my network, setup in bridge mode (a physical switch, making it super easy), and running in 2 minutes. The longest part was the device reboot!Now I get 7-10MB/s on 802.11n 5GHz! HD streaming problem solved - and now I know I can trust D-Link with my network.

This is one of the few wireless bridges that actually comes with gigabit ethernet ports (~1000Mbps). Why is that important? Well what's the point of having a bridge capable of wireless N (~300Mbps) if the ethernet port is only capable of 100Mbps?! The router is a little finicky to setup but once it's done you'll never have to touch it again! I stream multiple high def movies from my PC wireless without any skipping or lag whatsoever. This is a great, cheap option for a bridge.

I have tested many products with no success, and I dont care how much any product costs as long as the product works, and lives up to it's advertised features. This worked for me, and I am buying 4 more. I love it ! !

I purchased this unit to replace Cisco/Linksys WET610N which wasn't working with my networked laser printer. This D-link device was easy to install and it gets the job done. It's connecting via wifi my wired mini-gigabit network which I have in my office (PC wired with NAS, another printer and a couple of laptops) to Verizon FIOS router located on the other end of the house. Highly recommend.

I am a D-Link fan, but this little box stopped working within 3 months. It started getting hot (like burning) to the touch and I am dissappointed with D-Link.NetGear boxes are easier to setup and usually a little cheaper, so I am going to switch brands.

I'm returning this product to Amazon. I have a D-Link 4500 router and my router can *see* the DAP-1522 but I cannot access the DAP-1522's settings to set up WPA security. I've tried every alternative way to access them, but IE8 still says it isn't found (settings are accessed through your browser). There's nothing over on D-Link's site that would help me, so I posted on their forum. Even after explaining that I am most definitely NOT a techie (I even suggested hand-puppets), I received one short techie answer that was completely not helpful to a non-techie.So, for lack of ease of installation and lack of comprehensive support, I cry FAIL on this D-Link product.Oh, and btw, when I couldn't get this to work for me, I looked around for other ideas. I ended up buying a NETGEAR Home Theater Internet Connection Kit XAVb1004 NETGEAR Home Theater Internet Connection Kit (Black) and with just some minor fussing, it's working like a charm.

After a fussy setup, the DLink worked reasonably well for about a week, then refused to connect to my wireless network reliably. On occasions that I could access the device through the browser interface it was incredibly slow-taking minutes to bring up a configuration screen. Other wireless devices (laptop and netbook) have no issues with the same wireless network. The DLink was only 15 feet from the wireless access point (through an uninsulated drywall wall) so distance should not have been an issue.I plugged my laptop directly into the DLink to try to configure it and the speed was still painfully slow (bypassing the wireless altogether). I did a factory reset and updated the firmware-still the same issue.I'll be contacting DLink for resolution under warranty, but in the meantime I ran cable to the media center and will no longer use the DLink.

Certainly wish I'd had the kind of wonderful experiences with this unit that others have enjoyed. Unfortunately, both of the units I've received have been DOA: Neither would boot up in Bridge mode. In both cases, putting the mode selector into Bridge position results in both the Bridge and AP lights coming on (not blinking) and staying on.To make matters worse, I've spent over 6 hours with D-Link's grossly incompetent product support (generally overseas folks - hard to understand, in addition to being nearly completely ignorant of both the products and the general technologies). On the third call - for the first unit - the tech decided that the problem was with my D-Link DIR-825 router (nevermind that the DAP-1522 wouldn't even boot in Bridge mode) and ended up totally trashing the configuration of the wireless router! (Thankfully, I had taken the initiative to back up the DIR-825 configuration before following the tech's misguided instructions.)Finally - adding insult to injury - after spending 5 hours with the tech support at the ("D-Link is here to help") support number included with the unit, I was informed I was calling the wrong number for this particular product. Unfortunately, the tech at the "correct number" for the DAP-1522 was every bit as ignorant as the tech at the original support number (seemed to think the problem was with my cable modem!). Tier 2 support didn't even seem to know there was a difference between bridge and AP modes - or that there was a switch on the DAP-1522 to select the mode (I had to have her pull up the Quick Installation Guide on the screen and show her the switch).I truly wish this thing worked, but after having received two defunct units in a row - and spending the better part of a full day on the phone with incompetent (and nearly unintelligible) support staff, I've pretty much given up.

I bought the product to support my new LG LHB977 1000-Watt Blu-ray Disc Home Theater In a Box. I needed a LAN connection for the unit and my closest Ethernet port was too far away. Now that the unit is up and running, I am very satisfied with its range and 4 new Ethernet ports available to me. The unit is pretty small and hides well behind my home theater components.I was a little disappointed by the setup instruction. I spend a good two hours trying to figure it out and finally with the help of a decent blog article, I was able to get it connected in no time. the key for me was to hook the device temporarily to a PC/laptop, set this PC's IP address to a fixed one in the range that the D-Link device expects. I also want to point out that you can 'screw' up your existing wireless setup if you are not careful as this bridge can also send it s own additional wireless signal.Would definitely recommend it to friends and family (that have some basic networking understanding)

Works wonderfully for me as an 802.11n bridge. Notice that this unit ships with v1.02 firmware, however, as of Dec.8, 2008, the newest firmware version (available from DLINK on their web site) for this device (version for units sold in North America) is v1.10. Without this firmware update the device is unable to perform some of the functions in the "bridge" mode. Finally, the user's guide does not even mention the most important reason why people would buy this device to use in a bridge mode: to extend one's wireless network! Why the user's guide does not even show an example of this, I have no idea. Though D-LINK's web site has a FAQ, where they explain the bridge mode much better. OK, this is what you really need bridge mode for: let's say you have a computer, a DVD player and a game console in the same room but none of these devices have wireless interfaces. However, if you have a wireless router elsewhere in your house/neighborhood, you can set D-LINK to "bridge" mode and then connect all your wired devices to this bridge. Then the bridge will serve as a wireless card for all devices you connected to its wired ports. You can even go beyond this and connect a wireless access point to one of the bridge's wired ports - then your wired devices connected to the bridge would use it to communicate with your main wireless station, while you can use the new access point to extend the range of your wireless network beyond the range of your main wireless router. I give this device 5 stars because it works very well (I don't care about the user's guide etc). I was originally using this bridge with Belkin's 802.11n router on a network with MAC address filtering, a DHCP server and no WEP/whatever security. Later I got second DAP-1522 and configured it to work as an access point. This access point is on wired network connected to the router. The bridge is now connecting to internet through this access point in 2.4GHz/11n mode. Everything works wonderfully in both directions over AP and the bridge (for games, HD streaming video, ssh, scp and Remote Desktop). I now plan to get one more DAP-1522 and place it behind the bridge as another WAP to extend coverage of wireless network. Will update the review when done.

I bought one of these times to network my Xbox and HD TV downstairs. I got to say the product works great. I stream netflix, online gaming, no problems what so ever. On the other hand I do have to say, who ever the people they have making there firmware need to be shot!!! Really!!! This item was the worse item to set up. User manual was terrible. Who would have thought that the network connection settings for your laptop/desktop to talk to the router would be near the END of the document? Come on guys at least have it flow right. If you don't find the network settings, you can google it, or just read the rest of the forms out there. SETTING UP IS A PAIN, and I believe I am very intelligent on the computer aspect, but even I found myself cursing this. But like I said before, once you have it set up, it works GREAT!!! Just make sure you have plenty of time to walk away from it once in awhile and come back, or you will be throwing it out the window.
