I have a D-Link DIR 655 N Wireless Router and a Gigabit Switch in a media room at the corner of the residence. Wireless communication could not reach many parts of the house. After installing this Access Point in a straggic mid-point location, wireless coverage now blankets the whole house. The web based configuration wizard helped a great deal in setting up a WPA2 security (highest personal) and encryption. The tech support was also very helpful. I highly recommend this product.

I bought this product to extend the cable internet connection from my office room to the family room where I had my new HDTV.Pros:* Good product specs (on paper!)* Integrated 4-port switch (very useful)Cons:* Setup is horribly painful and the documentation was useless. I had to troll through several web resources to get it to work. And I have a decent networking knowledge! Can't even imagine how that experience would be for non-technical folks* Performance is NO WAY comparable to what is advertised. I was able to get no more than 100 Kbps between my Wireless draft-N router and DAP-1522 (setup as a bridge). Distance between the devices had nothing to do with this performance. It was no better when I moved the 1522 into the same room as my Netgear router.This product was essentially useless for me. This may work better for folks who have an all DLink setup.

I've had a horrible experience trying to order this wireless bridge from Amazon. Initially I figured I would save myself some money and take the free shipping. Three weeks later, no item at my door. The wait was too long, so I ditched it and went for the only other seller - antonline.com. They were selling it for cheaper and there were "5 items left". I ordered it right away, no brainer. 1 week later, I get an email that they're out of the item and I would have to wait - god knows how much longer. Immediately I ditched them and found tigerdirect was a seller on amazon. I love tigerdirect. I ordered it and two days later its at my door.I was over ecstatic when I recieved it. I immediately go to set it up. I was able to set it up a bridge to my belkin wireless pre-n router (yeah i know, i need a better router. as soon as prices go down, i'll get a nicer one, right now this one still works). The only problem was that my mac which was wired to the dlink bridge was not able to connect out to the internet. I spent an hour or two trying to figure it out, but no luck. I proceeded to call their help desk. I must say, their help desk is fantastic. They actually took the time to walk me through some of their solutions. An hour of trying different thing (which was a surprise considering most company's help desk won't stick around past 10min before dumping you to the next moron who will walk you through the same steps), we came to a solution.Let me save you guys some time. If you have problems with your mac initially connecting or other computers on the intranet (connected to the dlink) trying to connect to the internet and you're ip address is 169.x.x.x, go to http://support.dlink.com and download the latest firmware (even if its the same version 1.0). That should do the trick and save you hours of frustration.Even with all the issues from shipping and initial connectivity for my intranet, I stick by my conviction. This is by far the best product. Its small, and easy to use (once everything is up and running). Theres LOTs of ethernet ports, which is very handy if you're using it as a bridge.Here's the competitionNETGEAR 5 GHz Wireless-N HD Access Point/Bridge (WNHDE111) -- 2 portsApple AirPort Express with Air Tunes (M9470LL/A) - 1 port, and twice the priceEZ Connect N Ethernet Bridge - never heard of SMC. I have this bad boy hooked up to a Xbox 360, PS3 and a PC in bridge mode... All I have to say is wow. It was a snap to config. A flick of a switch and the web interface switches for easy configuring.The speed is awesome... I have no delay in anything I do. It almost feels like I'm wired. 5 GHz N mode is heavenly.Only really bad thing about this item, is it's price. You can buy a true router for it's price and config it to bridge or AP mode.

We have a ps3 in the bedroom and was using its wireless connection. It seemed to work fine for games but streaming movies were choppy. We added this device as a wireless bridge and now hd movies stream like a charm. We currently have a ps3 and a desktop connected to it.Setup wasn't as easy as it could have been. We have a dlink router so we tried the push button setup. That didn't work. We eventually just plugged a computer directly into the DAP1522 and surfed to its home page. We then configured it to connect to the N wireless router using the wizard.I don't know why the DAP1522 doesn't come with an antenna. It seems like the unit would get better reception that way. To increase the signal strength, we are using the vertical stand.This unit is on the expensive side for sure. We probably could have purchased a unit for half the price. I would have given it a 3.5 star rating but of course, that's not an option. It's working really well and we use mostly all dlink network products so I went a half star up rather than down.

We have used it a number of times. it always connects and works regardless of the router at the other end. So many of these won't connect to routers from other brands.

I purchased this product to connect a sound bridge with using its legacy wireless b protocol. The installation is a little tricky. First, you connect the wireless N bridge to the router with an cat 5 cable. Then, you have to figure out the IP address from your router. Now, the tricky part. When configuring the wireless connection, the router tries to make a second wireless connection will maintaining the wired connection. This is a problem since the wireless N bridge has a single MAC address. Your router might lockup. When this happens, it is simply a matter of removing the wired connection and rebooting both the router and bridge. Expect to fight this for 30 to 60 minutes. Once you are up and running, everything seems to work flawlessly. Don't expect wireless N to be that much faster than G. Signal strength has a funny way of leveling the playing field. But, you will have a solid connection without the security hole which comes with WEP protocol. My only beef is the cost. Why does this wireless bridge cost almost as much as the wireless router?

I purchased the D-Link DAP1522 in February 2010. I wanted to connect a wireless router in the front room to two computers in the back office (three room away). Setup was actually fairly straightforward (manually, the included set-up wizard is junk). However, the performance was terrible, even when the DAP1522 was just 5 feet away from my wireless router. I endedup returning it via Amazon. I would not recommend this product.

I'm using it mainly to connect a PS3 to a MythTV server for HD Streaming as the 802.11g on the PS3 wasn't quite cutting it. It was very easy to connect to a DLink DGL 4500 by pressing the WPS (Wireless Protected Setup) on the dap 1522, then pressing the same button on the DGL 4500 within 90 seconds. After pressing the WPS button on both devices, the DAP 1522 configured itself and all is working seamlessly except for one thing. The network that the DGL 4500 is on has a 6to4 router connected to it. IPv6 is NOT able to cross the bridge. If the DAP was IPv6 capable, I would give it 5 stars. Nonetheless, I am able to stream the HD video from my MythTV server to the PS3 with bandwidth to spare. If WPS is not an option, the configuration page is simple and it's easy to manually setup the wireless.DLink, please add IPv6 support to all your existing consumer products!!!

Using this as a bridge to connect TV and Blu Ray to our wireless home network, with main purpose being to stream Netflix. So far, so good. Works fine, even with our main home router being a D-Link DI-624 11g wireless router. Had to call support and wait on hold > 15 mins to get it configured; quick install guide directions didn't work on 2 different PCs (1 with Windows 7 and 1 with XP) and other documentation/support web page was useless. Other than that hassle, having 4 ports of wired connectivity and connecting wirelessly to rest of home network is great!

Very happy with it's performance. Linking with my D-Link router was literally a 2-button / 20 second deal. Distance is about 35 feet through 3 walls and the link has been very stable. Will stream Netflix with HD quality.

I created a home network with one DIR-655 and three DAP 1522 to cover every corner of my home with dual band wireless-N.Room #1: Office:Dir-655 router, DSL modem, main computer as the media server.1st DAP 1522 working as an AP (IP can be assigned by router's DHCP server. But I set it to a fixed 192.168.0.49 so I can get to it faster).The reason I add this DAP 1522 is to add 5GHZ band intended for HD streaming. DIR-655 already has the 2.4 GHZ wireless-N band for other laptops.Room #2, living roomDirecTV HD receiver with TiVoPS342" LCD TVSling Box Pro HD (to be added soon)2nd DAP 1522 as 5 GHZ wireless bridge #1. IP set to fixed 192.168.0.50.Bridge #1 connects to the AP (first DAP 1522) by 5 GHZ flawlessly. I don't have a way to test the real speed yet but I noticed performance similar to wires I had before.Room #3, Master bed room.2nd TVSlingCatcher (to be added soon)3rd DAP 1522 as 5 GHZ wireless bridge #2. I bought this to connect my DVR and slingbox in my livingroom to my wireless network. The setup couldn't have been easier-- although, this assumes you have an existing wireless router that supports WPS (Wifi Protected Setup). It literally was as easy as pushing the button on the bridge and pushing the button on the router, and waiting for them to synchronize. Then, just plug in your wired devices, and that's it.In my case, I was bridging it to a Linksys WRT310N, and connecting a Dish Network VIP622 DVR and Slingbox. I don't know how much more difficult it would be if the wireless router you're connecting it to didn't support WPS. You'd have to delve into manual configuration in that case.

Once I got this thing setup it works great. I use it to connect my Dish Network receiver and TV to the wireless network. The good part is that I can connect multiple devices to it. However, I had to rely on the customer service to set it up.

The DAP1522 from D-Link is an inexpensive yet effective way to get multiple wired devices connected to a wireless internet signal from another room. It's simple and easy to set up, and doesn't take much space.That said, it was hard to find, because many retailers that claim it as "in stock" really have it on backorder, which could take weeks or months to get (and D-Link may not even be supporting this product anymore).It's great for gaming systems, advanced TVs or set-top boxes that don't have built-in wi-fi. It's also useful for setting up a wired network in a separate room from where your cable or DSL comes in for fast file transfers and streaming HD video.However, if you want to run a home server, this is not the box for you. Some internet sources claim this box supports WDS, but it does not. It's only a client bridge, meaning MAC addresses and local IPs are funneled into one at the DAP1522. Your router will only see whatever device happened to send information last, preventing you from doing any port forwarding or advanced packet routing to the server.

The documentation is poor, which makes the installation more difficult than necessary. Once it's connected to your wifi router, however, it performs great in N mode.I connected this bridge to my D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit router (DIR-655) using a computer running Windows 7. Be sure to update the firmware on this device and on your router.

The D-Link DAP1522 Xtreme is working great. I have it hooked up at my entertainment center connected to my Dish DVR and a streaming TV player. It is located about 30 feet from my router, thru 2 walls and doesn't seem to have a problem with the signal. I would have given this 5 stars but the D-Link DAP1522 Xtreme was a bear to setup. If you buy this item you had better have some advanced technical skills. It doesn't help that the manual is very confusing. The manual (CD) has a lot of information, but is not written for the average user. All in all, if you have the patience to wade through the setup, you will be happy with the performance.

So, you want to tap into some of that 5ghz wireless N goodness, but you have a laptop or something that still uses 2.4ghz from the G card inserted, right? Here's what I needed and how I did it.I needed a good connection to my entertainment center for the xbox, ps3, and my dvr receivers. It had to be very fast so I could stream HD content. Also, I have a laptop with a perfectly acceptable G card in it. I need as much throughput as possible, so I wanted to get the entertainment center on 5ghz while still being able to use the 2.4 spectrum. So, I bought the newish Apple Airport Extreme, which allows the simultaneous use of 2.4 and 5 ghz. That took care of using both spectrum, but I still needed a bridge for the stuff at the entertainment center, and this D-Link fit the bill perfectly! Well, to be honest it's the only consumer product I found that could do 5ghz as a bridge and had built in ports, but it still works like a champ. Now I have the speed I need for HD streaming, but I can still use my laptop with the older tech directly with the Airport.Honestly, this is one of those devices that you never see unless you need what it's very specifically capable of. But once you need it, you'll be very glad someone has made it.

I had been using the Microsoft Wireless Adapter for my Xbox connected to my DIR-655. My router is upstairs, and my xbox is downstairs. I would hardly get HD quality streaming from Netflix. I installed the DAP-1522 and it took literally 5 minutes to set-up as a bridge. I plugged the xbox in and now i get consistent fast connections and HD streaming from netflix. noticed the difference right away. I plan to plug my other media devices at the tv into it.

After many hours of trying to bridge this unit with my dlink dir-655 router I was finally successful. Just a word of warning though, unless you're a networking guru this unit is a royal pain & tech support bearly speaks english so I was basically on my own. If you're willing to invest a lot of time & aggravation it's worth the end result, this is a real sweet & extremely fast untit.

I recently set up On Demand via this wireless bridge. My main router is a Dlink 655 Wireless. I am currently running WAP security. I connected the bridge to my laptop out of the box. Followed to quick install guide which surprising worked the first time. (Remember to revert your IP settings after set-up). I set the 1522 to Bridge mode and during setup & used the "Sight Survey" option which basically searches for wireless networks in the area. I clicked on my home network and went through the setup. I would recommend double checking your security setting because there is really now prompt or warning indicating if the setup is correct. After the setup I connected my DirectV DVR and Sony BluRay player to the 1522. (the 1522 has 4 Ethernet ports which makes this unit particularly appealing) I went through the Ethernet settings on both devises and everything worked perfectly. I then initialized Media Sharing on Windows Media Player to allow "DirecTV Media Share Devise". I downloaded a full-length movie on my DSL connection in about 2 hours. The download stream is steady and solid w/ a good transfer rate. All in all I am extremely impressed. The 655 was about $68.00 @ Costco. This configuration is working flawlessly so far with a set up time of about 10 mins if your are familiar with a router interface. So far this is an excellent unit and would highly recommend it for this configuration or similar.As a previous reviewer mentioned, the lights on the unit are bright. Too bright. I want to see the routers activity but I don't want it to be terribly obvious. I placed a narrow strip of masking tape over the front display and it dimmed the lights just enough.

It might bear noting that I'm technically proficient, and I've used several access points and switches over the years. This was my first D-Link purchase in years only because Linksys's reputation has become pretty terrible. Overall, this piece of equipment is GREAT, with a HUGE caveat that the range SUCKS.I used this router for about 3 weeks before I replaced it with the D-Link DIR-825 because of the range problem. The 1522's user interface isn't bad. I had no problem configuring this switch to do everything I wanted. I did not experience any dropped connections or dropped packets. Granted 3 weeks isn't a terribly long time - but I never had to power cycle the Access Point. It just worked and did a great job.I should have known that since the DAP1522 uses an internal antennae the range would not be comparable to my old Linksys WRT54G. I am intentionally trying to share my wireless with my neighbors, and the DAP1522 is unusable, and I'm not exaggerating, 30 feet away. To be fair, there are 3 (non-thick, normal wood) walls between the DAP1522 and the laptop - but still 30 feet? On the other hand, this could be a major selling point. Scared that your neighbors might be stealing your wireless signal? Just buy a DAP1522!If you have a large house or coverage area, this isn't going to cut it. But if you live in a small apartment, this thing is perfect. For anyone who needs better range, I'd recommend the slightly more expensive DIR-825.PS For anybody who's confused - this bridge/AP is essentially a switch plus an access point. It lacks the "router" capability and WAN port that similar pieces of equipment have which make them routers. For the typical person, you only need a bridge/AP if you already have a router and want to add a wireless access point to your network.

I could never get the unit to configue properly. I spent 5-10 hours on the phone with D-Link and AT&T tyring to get it connected to my router. Eventually the tier 2 support tech told me to send it back. Stay away from this unit.
