In fairness, I didn't spend a lot of time messing with settings on this camera before deciding to return it, but I own a Panasonic Lumix 12mp 12X zoom and bought this for my mother because it was 14mp and 14x zoom so I figured it was the next generation in point and shoot cameras and Canon is a trusted name. This might be a perfectly good camera for an average or novice user (hence the high amount of positive reviews) but for the price, I feel there are better cameras out there.Immediately I was disappointed by the image quality. The color calibration was way off right out of the box (blues looked purple and you don't even want to know how skin-tone looked)and not only that, but the display screen was somewhat pixelated making it difficult to decipher whether or not the picture itself was any good or not.The flash pops up on the top left corner which is an awkward place for a flash because your hand would be there to hold the camera, so I kept accidentally covering the flash or pushing it down. I don't know why they didn't build the flash into the body of the camera instead of making it a pop up. I can see that falling off or breaking easily down the road.The controls are clunky and awkward too. This camera was meant to replace a Canon Powershot SD6300 and even that camera had a clear LCD screen and button controls. You would think a newer generation model would have refined those things instead of making them less usable. I'm shocked and disappointed with the quality of this camera. Epic fail Canon!! I think I'll buy my mom the Lumix. I've had mine for a year and I'm still impressed by it every time I use it!

I was in a "purple" mood when I ordered this camera. Otherwise, I would have gone with the more conservative gold color. Quite disappointed that the camera looks closer in color to my "red" netbook (I would call it burgundy) than the true purple shown on my computer screen. It's more violet (reddish) than purple. In fact, I thought maybe I got a "red" one by mistake, but that was another camera that came in red. Not all that important, I know; just one of the downsides to ordering online. Writing this so anyone else out there who is influenced by colors will be aware.Before I used the camera, I knew I had a good one because my stepson and son-in-law went ga-ga over it. Now that I've used it, two of my favorite things about it are the telephoto capacity and the fact that I can take pictures without a flash in low light conditions and get a good picture where other cameras couldn't get one even with a flash. It's awesome!!Took me a while to learn -- and still learning -- how to set all the features because I don't like spending time to put a CD in the computer or going to an online manual to search for specific instructions. It's easier to thumb through a paper manual and mark it for quick reference next time. But I have to say, never having had a Canon before, it's pretty user friendly. It did take me 3 months, though, to figure out that when you press on the edges of the round dial you get four different menus depending on which side, top, or bottom was pressed. I kept getting one of the menus, but didn't know how I did it and didn't know how to make it stay there long enough to choose. Even the aforementioned camera nerds couldn't tell me. But then I accidentally pressed a different side and figured it out. :)

I purchased this camera as a backup for DSLR. First, I want a small camera to make additional pictures to choose from. This includes both full-scale pictures and visual comments/captions. Second, I need a simple alternative for a telephoto zoom. Finally, I have no use for a full-scale camcorder, but appreciate reasonably good HD video.For all these purposes SX210IS works fine. Nothing can replace F1.4/50 lens, but I find this small camera quite capable to compete with DSLR equipped with a cheap kit lens. This is exactly what I need! Also, I find the flash excellent, I don't think image color quality it provides is much worse than that of external DSLR flash.Considering the fast progress in point-and-shoots, IMO, it is better to spend about $200 and use the camera for a couple of years than invest $400 and find it outdated pretty soon. This camera is just right in this respect as well.As I found out, it makes sense to get a couple of extra batteries, they can be found for $3 apiece.

I like the fast response, but this is my 2nd canon that does not seem to take clear pics. Also, when I was video'ing my son's xmas show, the focus kept going in and out in and out. very disconcerting. Finally, I really dislike the location of the flash. I am always accidentally pushing it down. It needs to be integrated into the frame and not be a pop up.

I rely on reviews very much before I make any purchase, and the reviews were great on this camera. But I am disappointed in some of it's functions. I like most people wanted to find a camera that is easy to use and takes quality pictures, I was also looking for one that had really good zoom.The first thing I noticed that I wasn't totally happy with is that the flash opens right where most people place there fingers to hold onto the camera. There has been a few times that I have turned the camera on and without realizing that my finger is on the flash so it doesn't open. I have to turn the camera on then off again to get it to open.The second thing was the power button is way too small. I have petite hands and fingers, but I have to make sure I push right in the center of the button to turn the camera on. This can be annoying when I am in a hurry to capture that perfect picture.The zoom is unbelievable, but the more you zoom in the more shaky the image gets on the screen and the longer it takes for the camera to focus. This has caused me to miss some shots or to have shaky videos.Lastly, it is not all that easy to use. I am not the best with technically but I'm not the worst either. I read through the manual, but it's pretty hard to remember all of the functions and how to get to them without it. Hopefully this will become easier with time.The camera is lightweight, small, does take wonderful pictures when you have the time to zoom, click and wait. I do not suggest this camera however if your trying to capture anything that is moving or you need to capture something quickly.

Loved this, except it suddenly stopped working: would turn itself off without warning after just a few moments. Sent it back to Canon for 'in warranty' repair. We will see. If it worked it would be a five star, for ease of use and great pictures. Only, if you want really fast response time, you have to go to a real SLR- so action shots and fast changing facial expressions- not so much. Everything else, great, and it is a great carry-everywhere camera

So I purchased this camera for my wife since our first child was born a couple months ago and we needed a way to start capturing memories. This camera does the job... that is for sure. The first thing I noticed about the camera was that it takes amazing video. In fact the video is better than my mothers video camera she received last year. The only down side about the video is that it saves without any compression making the file sizes huge, but since I can compress the video myself using 'Any Video Converter' (which is free) I have no issues.The photos come out really nice with the flash. Even in light settings, it seems that when the flash is on the camera takes better photos. With good lighting it takes surprisingly sharp photos. I say that it is surprising because you don't need to keep your hand perfectly steady all the time. It definitely is built with some good algorithms for face finding and focus.The only down side to the camera was the blurr affect of moving objects. I was disappointed with the fact that some of my pictures were coming out blurry but then found that compared to all the other cameras that my friends and family received for christmas, my camera was blurry far less often than the others. Some of the other cameras were even priced higher than my SX210IS and could not produce a single crisp image. I would say that as long as the object in front of me is moving at a fast pace, the SX210IS outperforms its competition. We are very pleased.

Please see Cooper's Hawk picture above. I like this camera because it has 14x optical zoom, which is great for zooming in on people, but not so great for difficult wildlife pictures. I was hoping I might be able to take this camera backpacking and leave my SLR behind to save weight. The key question was whether the zoom was good enough to take the pictures I wanted of wildlife (including birds) that I see when I'm hiking in the National Parks. From my house (open window), I first took a picture with the Powershot SX210IS of a cooper's hawk way in the back of my yard at maximum 14x optical (not digital) zoom (on left). I then pulled out my Canon XSI SLR with 70-300 mm lens and took the same shot (see right picture). Both were outside the typical range of the lens, and both had similar megapixels and file size; however, you can tell the left picture is not near the quality of the right picture. As I said, I like the camera, but you might want to temper your expectations. It's great for people, but not a replacement for a real zoom lens for wildlife photography.By the way, I have no problem with the pop up zoom. I like the option of opening and closing the flash with my finger to suit my needs. The video is nice, but note that you cannot play it on your computer because it's high def. If you try, you get jerky movement. The video is fine when played on my HDTV.

While the camera's features are good for the price, I have sent this camera back twice. The first one had a dead pixel on the LCD screen after a week of use. Then I got a new one, thanks to Amazon's great service. The second one worked fine until it had the same problem 3 months later. The problem is that this time the pixel appears like a red spot when playing the videos on the computer. So this time I think is something on the sensor. I think this is going to be my last Cannon even if I love my 30D. I'll give Nikon a try.I sent the camera to Amazon just after the three months period, hopefully they'll give me store credit or something similar so I can buy the Nikon.Well, that is why I can't recommend the camera even if I liked it's features and performance. I have been searching the web and I found 3 other people with the same problem, and one of them had the same problem 3 times, so I guess Canon's quality control is not that good on this camera. Now I'm stuck with 2 extra batteries :(Thanks for viewing my review.

The Good:Very good quality images in the daylight, although the 14 mega-pixels is a little unnecessary.Flash is very easy to toggle on/off(just open or close it) Some people complain that the camera is awkward to hold because of the flash placement but i personally like where it is.The menu system is extremely easy to use, very nice for changing settingsThe camera itself is very easy to use.14X zoom.It has fully manual controls (zoom, aperture, shutter speed).More than enough special picture modes to play around with.My experiences with the video quality have been very good.The BadThis camera does have a lens shadowing issue, it should only come up if you taking close pictures with the flash, but its still an issueLow-light performance is decent, but something like the Sony HX5V/B would probably be better if you plan on taking a lot of dark pictures, but this camera is still a lot better than your average point and shoot.It is one of the slowest shooting cameras in this price range, a dirty trick to get around this is to put the camera in low light mode and it takes pictures very fast. For me this hasn't been an issue.Whether this camera is worth it or not really depends on what features your looking for in a camera. Personally, I spent a lot of time researching other cameras and I'm very happy with my purchase.

This camera will not work with Windows 7 !!And neither Canon or Microsoft have a solution; this can be verified by the many cases reported through internet [look it up with Google].DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IF EXPECTED TO SYNC WITH WINDOWS 7.Would have rated 0 star, but sadly not possible.

We had an earlier SX210 that has worked well, so, when the time came for me to upgrade, I wanted to try this model for its wide-angle lens and its impressive zoom. I knew about the annoying pop-up flash, which is still annoying, and in this version the on/off button is harder to deal with than the earlier one. But I can deal with design issues; what I hate is poor image quality. Even without zooming, many of my photos were blurry, not sharp. That could arise from the camera being lightweight, or the image stabilization perhaps (which made it hard to estimate when the shutter would fire). The color resolution was not good, with extreme contrasts and little color saturation. Yes, perhaps I hit the wrong adjustments, but I don't think so and did not do so deliberately. I don't adjust a point-and-shoot much; I want something that works out of the box. I tried to adjust the photos with basic software, but the colors and bad focus made almost all of my photos dull to look at and uninteresting to try to adjust. I figure that, even with decently rated models, there are some individual items that are kind of lemons, and I think this was one. Others may wish to spend time trying to adjust the exposure, but I'm sending it back.

I have this camera for almost a year now. I was impressed with the quality of the pictures. I am selling stuff on craigslist and ebay and I've received emails not about the items I'm selling but what camera I'm using. It is great for macro and night shots. Which is one of the things I've considered when buying since it has high rating when it comes night shots without flash..The negative side of it is, the speed. Very slow shutter and taking pictures of my 1yr old boy and 2yr old girl is very frustrating. It comes out blurred most of the time!!! Even when using the children/pet setting. My 6yr old Kodak takes better picture when it comes to moving objects. I don't recommend it for parents whose main purpose is to take pictures of their children who moves a lot and runs around. There's a great lag in shutter, even if I turn "review" off. Another negative is, when using flash, pictures came out to be super bright even in distance and it just washed out the picture. It also has kind of very orange tint on it.If the main purpose for using the camera is for nature, still pictures, then go for it. Great quality! I have a couple of sunset photos over Manhattan Skyline and ppl thought its from a DSLR..

This is the third Canon point and shoot I've purchased because I was extremely pleased with the previous ones and I wanted one with more zoom. Everything else works great except the autofocus which I depend on. I ended up adjusting the shutter speed for pictures instead of using "auto". The video constantly moves out of focus even though i'm trying to keep the camera steady and on target. I know it is not a camcorder but all of my other digital cameras took adequate basic videos but this will not. I'm disappointed because I wanted all the functions to be adequate in one package.

This camera is great, its zoom ability is awesome, the features are really fun to play around with, and overall, it's great for everyday use. It's not the most compact or lightest, but the slightly larger size and weight are worth it for the increased quality of the photos. The only thing I don't like is how the flash is on the left side, and pops up when taking the picture--so when holding the camera, if my hand happens to be holding that part, then the flash won't open at all. I have noticed this on some other great Canon cameras as well. But, if the flash is actually open, it works great, captures enough light. I am very pleased with my purchase. I LOVE Canon cameras; from my experience, they have the perfect balance of quality and user-friendliness.

Bought this for $199 on thanksgiving. I really wanted a camera with large optical zoom, but still keeping it compact. This camera is perfect for my needs. The optical zooming while video recording is what made me choose this over the more expensive s95 (which was $299 on thanksgiving).The manual features are up to the mark, the sensor is not as strong as s95, (low light photography without flash requires an ISO setting of 800 for non-blurred pictures while same would be possible at ISO of 200/400 on s95). The grip of the camera is perfect, I wasn't very fascinated by the zoom joystick at first, but you get used to it! The dial to switch the modes is a little tighter than what it needs to be. Flash quality is excellent, it's only the mechanics of the flash that scares me a little bit. You can force it to open close manually and it also opens/closes mechanically at power on (if your finger is not covering the flash, it will open) and power off.The screen is also excellent. Mic quality is awesome for videos (including the stereo effect). I am not sure if there is an option for reducing the wind disturbance, but at first glance I couldn't see it! One little flaw that I noticed was that, while shooting movies in a quiet room with zooming, you can actually hear the lens movements in the video.

I wanted so badly to like this camera... I tried and tried, but there was no way I could get accustomed to the pop up flash. The major problem is the placement of the flash. It's exactly where you put your finger or thumb to hold the camera. No matter how many times I tried to remember to hold it differently, I just couldn't. You turn on the power and there it is...right under your index finger, trying to pop-up but it can't because your finger is there.Sure, you can manually pull the flash up from its hiding place if you need it, but that's a hassle, especially because the flash doesn't always know that its supposed to be powered on now that it's in the up position.This is just a bad design, period. I read a lot here before buying and the major complaint seemed to be that the flash casts a shadow in the picture, but I only noticed that a few times. Really, the bigger problem is that this thing is just not ergonomically designed.The extra wide angle was great as well as the super zoom, and those are the major reasons I bought this unit, but in the end, I just couldn't live with the flash trying to open up under my finger every time I turned it on.Manual features were great, ability to control the output of the flash was nice for indoor portraits, macro feature seemed to work well, too.Back to the drawing board with this one Canon.

I have had several digital cameras, most small Canon's and I bought this one for the zoom. It is great. Unfortunately a problem I experience with this camera is that about half of my pictures are not in focus. It is very sensitive to the setting and often just will not focus.

I hate to say such a highly respected name as Canon would put out something this unsatisfactory. Some attributes were awesome as in night photography or even photos taken in a dark room (lighting turned out as if in day or lights in SOME photos came out beautifully while preserving the darkness surrounding BUT sometimes even the next photo of the same thing would appear to be a time lapse image with an awful result) I took this on a trip and took lots of photos using auto or easy mode which didn't help and I'd have to say 80% of photos taken were blurry or completely out of focus. When reviewing them I was sickened as I can never take those photos again. Returned it no questions asked so customer service is exceptional but man, this camera sucked. The images that did come out were stellar but it's not an outcome you can consistently expect. And forget motion, this camera can't handle action shots. Videos were jumpy at best, they would pause continually on camera review and on computer. I am so completely disappointed. Oh, and the camera, after taking a photo (which does have a delay at time of shooting) would give a "busy" symbol and message for quite a time so don't expect fast photography at all. If you have to wait for each image to process you're going to miss that next shot you really wanted as I did on many occasions. Sorry to say (and I am P.O.S.T. certified in forensic photography) that this camera was a complete waste of my time.

I got this camera to "upgrade" from my Canon sd 780is. What my main priority was a camera with HD video capability, low light photos, and the quickness in which i can take photos. Unfortunately, for this camera it only excelled in the video category. It takes great HD video and the speaker quality is great as well, but the video quality wasn't that much better than my old Sd 780 (if at all). While video recording it tended to focus in and out often which was very frustrating. It was a pleasant addition to have the opportunity to be able to have manual controls on a digital camera since i'm a die hard SLR fan. The megazoom was really great, and fun to play with. But that is where the positives end with me.The camera quality sucks, the photos came out pale and washed out, even soft looking (indoors and outdoors). I tried playing with the settings and I could get better shots, but for those quick shots, it fails. FYI: it will NOT catch anything that is moving, trying to catch up with my 2 yr old goddaughter was near impossible. I got better photos from my 2 year old Canon SD 870. The flash is terrible: it's terribly placed and its frankly annoying to have to push it down when i don't want an overbearing flash to flood my photos. It is a larger camera, fairly heavy, and my hands are small so I found myself holding it in an awkward position and fidgiting often to find a comfortable position to take photos. While the screen is large, I found that the photos always looked grainy.This camera is perfect on paper, it has all the specs to be a great camera. But the quality of it just isn't any better than Canon's older digital cameras which simply doesn't justify the price. I'd go grab the Canon S95 instead.

I really enjoy this camera. Great features and definitely far more advanced than your other standard "pocket" cameras. It has several features that take a while to get used to but they are great when you do. THe quality of the photos is great as well! The battery life is good. I can take about 200 pictures before it starts to slow down which is quite impressive for the brightness of the flash and auto review and all of the features provided. The zoom is my favorite part by far. You can get great zoom and great quality as well, especially for such a small camera.I have yet to use the video aspect of the camera, however.Very happy with this product.

Even though this was a Christmas present, I got to pick out my camera and this is the one I chose for a number of reasons. The top reason is the optical zoom. Having a camera that is this compact with an optical zoom of 14x is amazing and blows my old Canon SD1000 IS's optical zoom of only 3x out of the water. Next, would be the functionality. The SX210 IS is a nice middle of the road offering between the ELPH line and Canon's DSLR cameras, so it has some advanced features that advanced shooters will enjoy but it still retains some of the fun effects that are offered in the ELPH cameras (such as color swap, fisheye, and miniature effect). Honestly, the 14.1mp didn't sway me that much (I immediately set it to 9mp) but the clarity is amazing. Another nice feature is being able to shoot video in HD. I haven't connected the camera to the TV yet (with the provided stereo AV cable) but if it's anywhere nearly as clear as it is on the 3" widescreen, then I'm sure it'll look quite nice. I still have to tinker with different outdoor settings but I'm pleased that I haven't seen the bottom corner shadow that some people reported (though I think that might have been due more to poor photo composition rather than a performance issue on the camera's part). So I say all that to say that I'm very pleased with my gift and look forward to many years with this camera!

Takes great photos. Too many features to mention, and quite a learning curve to learn them all. However, one does not have to. The biggest drawback is the pop up flash which automatically pops up when the camera is turned on. Additionally, your finger easily gets in the way preventing the flash from popping up. This could eventually prevent use of the flash at all. The flash itself is not very powerful. If you can live with that, it is a wonderful compact camera with a great zoom for its size. For $200 (what I paid for it on Amazon) it is a lot of camera for the money.

I ordered this camera to use in a beginner digital photography class. I hadn't decided whether I wanted to by a dslr yet and I thought the manual controls on this camera would allow me to learn photography without making a huge financial investment. It was a great little camera with an awesome zoom lens. The flash is in an awkward place right uner your left index finger, but I think you would get used to that after a short while. In the end I decided to return this camera. I found that although it did have full manual controls, a lot of the functions were located within the camera menus. It was very time consuming to have to go through the menu to change the aperture, shutter speed and ISO while trying to get a shot. I ended up borrowing a Canon G9 from my brother that is older with less zoom on the lens, but all the manual controls are located on the outside of the camera via a dial or button.As far as ordering through Amazon, it was an excellent experience as always. They had a great price on the camera and it arrived very quickly. I went through the online return center and dropped the camera off at a UPS location on a Monday. By Tuesday they had the package back and my refund was processed within a day or two.

the camera is not the problem. When you buy this camera with amazon.com, and the SELLER IS AMAZON.COM, they will send you the refurbished one, with the package UNsealed. that is what they sent me.It is NOT written anywhere that it is new. and, it is not new at all. BUT, when I openned the unsealed box, everything was like new. I got screwed, mainly because when I order CD's, and the seller is : amazon.com and notan independant seller that sell through amazon.com, they used to sell the SEALED CD. Then I thought that this camera will be NEW AND SEALED. Oh Boy, I was so wrong.GOOD LUCK AMAZON TO SELL MORE IN THE FUTURE. I HOPE THIS TEXT WILL BE BACKED UP. It is 100% the truth.

Don't think that the pop flash is just old technology. It is actually an easy way to turn flash on or off without going through menus and making a selection. A great idea. After owning 3 Sony Cybershot cameras before switching to Canon for this one, I'm very pleased with this camera. What other small camera has a 14x zoom for under $200? The color quality and lighting correction are better than I have ever seen on Sony digital cameras. It is also amazing to me that they would make such a great camera with such a humble look.The ability to zoom when recording makes a big difference. My only problem with the camera is that the auto focus sometimes doesn't totally work until the shutter button is halfway pressed for a second.

In less than a year the automatic lens cover failed and the lens was not protected from debris. I shipped the camera to Canon Factory Service with the Amazon receipt as requested. They sent me a letter requesting more than half of the cost of the camera to cover repair. When I called Canon Service they offered me a lesser product in return. When I asked the representative why Canon offers an older model in return for the PowerShot SX210IS she replied, "That's just the way Canon does it." I also asked why the warranty did not cover repair costs and got the run-around.

I wanted a point-and-shoot with a lot of additional features, and this camera is great. The only thing is that the shutter speed is a little slow, and it tends to produce blurry pictures if not shot with great precision. Otherwise, this camera is amazing because it has very artistic effects such as Color Accent. Not many cameras have this feature, and it is tough to even produce that effect on Photoshop because you have to do it manually. Color Accent makes this camera a win for me. :)

This is a nice camera. Takes nice pics and movies and is easy to use. However, what good is a camera if you cannot download your pics and movies to your PC without having to be a computer guru. I am running windows xp on a dell with plenty of ram and disk space. I googled the error message I received when I tried to do my first download and came up with dozens of hits. This is a common problem for all cannon digital camera's. On cannons web site they have a "knowledge base" for problem solutions. Among my choices were: reboot; reinstall cannons software; reinstall windows; upgrade to a newer version of windows; download windows service packs; etc etc etc.... It is either my fault or my computers fault but cannon takes no responsibility. I also sent an email to cannon describing my problem in detail and the only response I received was an email stating that they had received my email. before you buy a cannon google your model number and look for problem/complaints.

I bought this camera after a trip to Alaska. I lugged a heavier Canon Rebel, which I did like , but after carrying all the equipment and lenses that I needed I decided life was just too short. I was constantly banging my camera and equipment into objects and people. Life on ship can be crowded.This little camera has been the answer to just about everything I needed in the way of a camera. It is light enough to carry anywhere, a big plus. I am very pleased with the video part, excellent quality. The sound could be a little better, but it is minor. There is so much packed into this little camera. If you like playing with all the manual features, like the SLR, they are there. I am still a beginner when it comes to all the different things like arpeture, etc. and that is what makes it fun for me. All these features are here as with my SLR but I can learn as I go with this camera and not feel like I need a degree in Photography just to get though the camera guide.I recommend this camera to anyone who likes a light weight camera with a excellent zoom and great pixels.

Although I have not tested the samera in all situations yet I have high expectations from what I have seen so far. This camera is as good as it gets withought going to an SLR or professional camera. It has taken great pictures in average light settings and the white ballance is good. There is an issue with the barrel of the lense casting a shadow in certain instances (i have tested this and seen an internet demo before i bought the camera and was aware that this was an issue), but i am willing to live with it, or set the camera to widescreen to "auto-crop" it out. Pictures look great so far, an amazing amount of features and many that I have not even tested yet! I am looking forward to using this for all my photography needs.THANKS CANON!

I thought a camera with 14.1 MP, 14X optical zoom and so many features would be the perfect compact camera for my travels. However, I was greatly disappointed after trying it out. What I disliked about the camera:1) The flash was located at a location where it would distract your focus and hinder you; you can't even hold the camera properly when the flash is up. As a result, you get fingerprints all over the LCD screen. It's also very frustrating to use the flash; sometimes instead of a push of a button, you have to manually flip up the flash for the "flash on" function to work.2) The camera has many features and they are all cramped into this compact camera. As a result, sometimes you have to go through several steps to get to the function you want and the manual is not going to help you much. It's not a user friendly camera.3)The image quality is not good. You really have to stand very, very still for the pictures to come out okay. Most of the pictures look fine while viewed on the camera LCD, but once loaded into the computer or printed, they look blurry.I was looking forward to a compact camera with high optical zoom and can take good pictures in low light situations, but this is not it. I ended up returning it for a refund.

Zoom +: 14x OPTICAL zoom! OPTICAL OPTICAL OPTICAL!Diaphragm +: 1:3.1-5.9. A very important technical detail that normally got ignored. This one is great with it's 14x optical zoom, which enhances the capability of movement capture and picture quality.Flash +: good performance.Video +: Nice sound and picture quality. Not enough to work as a movie material, but its largest setting is OK for a 1080p TV, and smallest setting is good enough on YouTube.Focus Speed -: a little bit slow. You would think you are able to catch a great movement picture for its diaphragm, but NOOOOO. The auto-focus speed is slow - in my case, no pictures of a dolphin with any parts above the blue sea, but pretty good pictures of its whole body underneath a moving surface. :(Ease of Use -: If you are for the "ease-of-use" of a camera, you might have to reconsider. To compromise its well-designed 14x opt-zoom, diaphragm and flash, the company squish the flash to the corner so it is not very comfortable to hold on the left. Meanwhile, the panel buttons on the back give up their sizes and signs for the large LCD screen, which might make someone have to "guess" if new to a Canon.Overall, 5 star if you can get it under $200, and is still highly recommended within $250.

This is a nice camera; Canon does not disappoint. From my experience, these are the best pictures (and zoom) you can get with such a compact camera.My only complaint is that it takes too long to save between picture and picture.

I have bought this product and I am pretty much impressed with its performance. You make use of the features and will definitely love this. I came back to buy the same product here and found that the price went up (it's doubled). Yes I have bought it for $200 and it prices about $400 now.

I bought this last month. I haven't explored all the features and settings yet. I've only used the Auto settings to take most pictures and the Video setting. I am impressed with the image quality and zoom capabilities in particular. I have taken pictures of things I couldn't see with the naked eye and the camera has captured those with precision.Video is great quality for a compact and the microphone works well too.All in all, a good buy for a compact camera that fits your pocket and your budget.Yea, as pointed before flash position is weird but you get used to it if you don't own 10 cameras :-)

After long hours spent reading reviews, visiting store displays and comparing other cameras I settled on this. My original intention was to get the smaller point and shoot, but I'm glad I settled on this for the longer zoom. It performed very well in low light - I prefer to use the flash as little as possible. I love that I can just push the flash down insuring it doesn't go off when I don't intend for it to. I mainly used the preset settings because I didn't have time to read the instruction manual before my trip. As a novice, those pictures came out better than when I tried to control the settings in all but one instance. After borrowing a friend's older canon for a few shots, I realized how helpful the optical stabilizer on this is to me. Similar shots with the two cameras came out much clearer on mine. My only complaint is that it's just a bit slower than I'd like. I got most of the shots I wanted but was a bit slow on a couple and missed the shot. I knew that going in, but despite that still felt it was the best camera out of all those that had similar features and price. I made sure to charge the battery every day as I was taking a lot of pictures. The two times I didn't charge or fully charge my battery died before I was done shooting.

I'm so glad I purchased this camera. The zoom is incredible, I love having the HD video. The features are as good as or better than my bigger camera. There are a few downsides, that are minor compared to how great the camera is. My biggest complaint is the battery/SD card door is very difficult to open, and the side door for the USB could provide better clearance for plugging it in. I never thought I'd get a zoom this good in a camera this small.

Pros:- Excellent photos, great lens range, strong camera body.- The sensor captures rich rich tones in my photos.- I wish that the next version will make Wide Angle wider and Zoom Mode deeper, with a the same form factor.- I accidentally dropped this camera from my chest level to the cement floor. The corner metal is a bit dented. But my camera is still working! :D This camera is so strong! Next time I'll be more careful, of course.- You can zoom while taking videos, and the quality is good. Compare this to SD800 IS, where video zoom is fake. SX200 IS Video Zoom is real, direct from the lens.- With a tripod and proper settings, night or low-light photos are glorious.- At last, someone has dedicated a separate "Play" button for viewing photos. You can turn on the camera with this button to view photos, and the lens will not expand.Cons:- Battery indicator still unpredictable, just like more cameras. It's important to have an extra battery.- I wish the aperture can be up to f/2- I wish it the lens range will be expanded further. Make it 18mm Wide Angle, and yet it's 32x Zoom!

I love (nearly everything) about the Canon Powershot SX210 IS. It doesn't take photos in RAW, which isn't a big deal to me. The image stabilization doesn't come even close to as smooth as the stabilization of my Rebel T2I with either the 18-55mm kit lens or the Tamron 18-270mm VC lens in video or still shots, but to compare the 2 is unfair for the compact camera. For what it is and does it's the next best thing when I can't carry a DSLR. Shot to shot speed is on mine quite impressive for a compact, again to compare it to a DSLR is slow, but unfair. Truth is it's used more often than my DSLR cameras because it's so much easier and convienient{SP} to tag along when I'm on the go. The quality of the images is impressive when the proper mode is used and or used in Manual mode, A Pri or S Priority. Video is quite good, but will definitely require tripod at the long end of it's impressive 14x optical zoom. I never use digital zoom on any camera because of both my shaky hands and image degradation, therefore I can't fairly comment on that. Others complain about the pop up flash which activates in all modes, but it's so easy to either hold it down or push it down that it's a non issue. All-in-all I'm very satisfied with my new Canon Powershot SX210 IS. And of course I've purchased many items from Amazon and I'm always impressed with their shipping prices (free mostly) and shipping speed!

I own a d40 with a powerful telephoto lens but frankly it is just a pain in the butt lugging this thing around. i wanted something that was small and convenient yet provided decent pictures. I looked at them all and after much research and checking out things at best buy and the large box stores i decided to return to my local camera shop. The owner showed me the nikon cool pix and this canon sx210is. I played around with both and left to think about it. After two days i went back and bought the canon. I just liked the larger optical zoom lens. WOW. What a surprise. This is one amazing camera. The shots are fantastic and the one thing that i didn't care for, the small telephoto button turned out not to be a problem in the least. I can not believe the quality of the pictures and the ease of use. I haven't picked up my big camera since. I do recommend going to a LOCAL camera shop because they are really there to serve you and have the knowledge and expertise to help you pick out what is best for your needs. The best Buys and similar stores are just unable to provide the expertise needed. I purchased mine at Piepuls Camera Shop in Chicopee, MA and was provided great service by knowledgeable people and did not pay a premium price. this is a great camera that provides outstanding features, class a pictures and it fits in my pocket. at about 1/10th of the price of my big camera. Give it a try. Notice the colors and the quality of the pictures. I just can't understand how they get all these features in this little box. oh, i forgot to mention the feel. It has the feel of a very solid, well made camera and it is actually made in Japan, not some unheard of county. Canon manufactures great cameras that produce great results. It can be a simple point and shoot or a complex unit. the choice is yours.

It is truly amazing to see what Canon can pack into a relatively compact point and shoot these days. I've had 3 other p/s canon's and wore them all out in extreme outdoor adventures. The SX210IS may be the mighty mouse of them all. More features than any normal quick shooter will ever use but worth reading about all the possibilities when that magic photo moment presents itself and you're brave enough and educated enough to adventure beyond the Auto and Easy settings. I really like the ability to manually and instantly flip the flash up or off to instantly compare a special lighting effect. Could use a more detailed manual. Should come with an 8 mem card. Amazon for an extra battery. For this price you get truly exceptional features which if this little rascal holds up over time equals value and, that for me seals the deal.

I love my camera. I'm still learning some of its tricks so where I gave 4 stars, it may be me not the camera. I don't find it as intuitive to figure out as the Fuji I had, but the quality is much better. I bought it refurbished so that made it in my price range.

What a great little camera! So many features packed into such a small package! This is a great pocket camera with enough features to keep one occupied for a long time to come, and also produces great pictures. The low light feature is especially nice for taking pictures inside without the flash washing the background out. It's a very well rounded camera for the price.

This is an excellent camera for the price, and I'd recommend it to a friend. There are newer models of this camera; however, getting this one saves about $150-$175 over the newer ones. I really liked this camera on paper... but time has proven me wrong.The flash is amazing (though poorly located). it is by far the best feature of this camera... never noticed any shadows as other reviewers tell.what bothers me the most is that half of the pictures I take at night are useless!!! THIS CAMERA CAN'T FOCUS in poor light environments! I hate this! I gave it plenty of chances. Always the same. And if I ask somebody else, who's not acquainted with this issue, to take pictures, I would bet I'll have to delete at least 80% of them.Also the camera is slow... even if you are pressing the shutter half way.I've had sony, panasonic and even canon before. I've always complained on the weakness of the flash. Now that I have a potent flash, the rest of the camera is useless.Oh... and Why oh why can't I choose the image quality on widescreen mode?!?! Who still shoots in 4:3 ???? unbelievable!

I wanted the perfect combination between point-and-shoot and a full-blown SLR. This camera is a little heavier than I expected, and I'm always nervous about moving parts like the motorized retractable lens, but the optical zoom gives me exactly what I wanted to determine wide angle versus 50mm shots without losing resolution. The manual features that allow you to set the shutter speed or the aperture or both is exactly what I wanted. There are a number of automated settings (portraits, landscape, indoor) that look useful, but there's no documentation to say what the settings are or how they are determined. This camera will be a favorite friend over many years if it lasts that long. I think I'll be able to get exactly what I want in a quick shot when I get used to the camera settings for different lightings. It also allows you to set the ISO, but I haven't researched how these words from the old days of film translate to a photon collector. What I remember about my old SLR was that with 400 ISO film I could set the shutter to 1/125 or 1/60 and get a pretty decent photo in low light without blur if I kept steady. We'll see how it works with this one. You can also do tricks like setting the aperture really small and giving a long exposure for something like a sunset, and that way you get the depth of field as well as bring out the red wavelengths if you're on a tripod. Haven't tried the movie yet, but with a 16GB memory it says I can do an hour of video. I don't expect wonders from the micro tho. Haven't tested the batter life. All in all, I'm really pleased.
