I bought this camera for my grandmother about 6 months ago (to replace her 35mm) and did a ton of research before doing so. It is such a fabulous camera, I just bought one for myself.When I first purchased it and was "testing" it, I took pictures of the angel on top of our tree from about a 100 feet away. The camera will soom in to 56X, but the picture was not a great quality. I could zoom in on the angels face to about 36X and have a good picture. I have had it for about a week now and have taken about 250 pictures and the battery is still showing fully charges. (The one negative about the battery is that it is larger than the old canons, so you can't use old batteries as a backup) I tried taking a picture in a pitch black room (I could not see my hand 2" in front of my face). The picture came out so perfectly bright, you would not have been able to tell I wasn't standing in a brightly lit room!! I also took pictures with the sun right behind the people, this camera balanced it out and took a perfect picture!I have always been loyal to canon and this is the reason why!! This is the best camera I have ever used!

I am VERY happy with this camera. I read some negative reviews about the zoom button, but I don't have a problem with it at all. The same is true with the function dial. I have no problems operating this, and find the entire camera super easy to use. This is my fourth camera purchase this year. This, and my original Canon SD780 are my favorites. The only minor thing I don't like is where the built in flash is. I tend to hold onto the camera at that spot, and when the flash is up, I tend to block it with my finger. I'm certain I don't understand this design decision, but it's not that big of a deal to me. I bought this camera because of the 14X zoom, not knowing much about them. I like it very much, but in order to stay steady at 14X, one definately needs a tripod. The movies I've taken have been surprisingly good, with no effort what-so-ever on my part. All in all, I think this is a great camera. Getting the camera, a spare battery and a 4GB SDHC card for under $205.00 from Amazon sealed the deal! I'd do it again. In a nutshell, I bought and returned this item within a week.My previous camera was the Powershot SX200 IS. It was stolen out of my car, so I went for a slight upgrade. I figured 210 has to be better than 200, right? And cheaper. More mega pixels. Bigger zoom. Score...Or not.First off... for a point and click camera, it really expects you to trust the automatic features. For instance, try turning the flash on or off. 3 minutes of menu-hunting, people. The SX200 has a nifty little button right on the back (on, off, auto toggle).From day 1, the auto lens cap on the 210 didn't open entirely, leaving a black vignette on all my photos. I had to remember to push it open with my finger, smudging the lens half the time in the process.The LCD is a joke. It's set to widescreen (I suppose for videos), but because of that it adds black sidebars to your photo previews. This makes the 3" LCD virtually 2". It's a camera, not a video camera. The screen should take preferance to still photos and make them larger. Put the black bars on the video!I'm returning it and getting another SX200 IS before they go completely out of stock. It was a wonderful camera (although slighty bigger/heavier), and I suggest you skip the 210 and do the same.

While this camera has a lot of features that are cool (ie: smile detection), it can't do the basics to a satisfactory level. When taking pictures between 2 and 10 feet, the focus is very poor. I am a professional photographer and I tried many MANY times to get a sharp picture out of this camera within arms length, and could not do it. Even within 5 feet I couldn't not get a sharp photo.They did a good job with the telephoto abilities, and the "extras," but if your camera you're putting out can't focus like it should for basic functioning, it shouldn't be on the market. Shame on you Canon.I got this for my dad after he lost his Canon SD1200 and that camera took far better photos as far as focus goes than this camera, which is $50 more in price.I'd take it back if I could.Splurge for a Nikon P7000 if you want something as good as the excellent quality this camera claims to have, or the SD1200 if you're ok with point and shoot quality.I'll post sample pictures in the examples album as well.

I bought this camera (as did two of my relatives) for two reasons: I gave it to my daughter before she went to Africa (and on a safari) so she could take amazing photos with a pocket size camera, and it didn't disappoint. It has a 14X OPTICAL zoom - rare for a small digital camera! Others were amazed at the zoom capabilities compared to their SLR cameras. I then took it on a trip to Yellowstone, and was thrilled by my photos. Zooming in on black bears made it look like I was standing right in front of them!The second reason was price. When I saw the 'Black Friday' special, I told my relatives and three of us ordered the camera..... I've been watching the price on it since purchasing my daughter's early last summer, and saved over $100 on this one!Only drawback I've experienced is the flash - it pops up right where your left hand would hold the camera. This takes a bit of getting used to, having to change your grip (hopefully in the future Canon will redesign this). This is my 4th digital Canon camera in a row - I'm definitely a fan!

So far this camera is very nice. Still have some time to work with it though to get the full effect. Very easy to use and the photos are wonderful so far.

I like the camera , the HD video but unline my Canon ISUS there is hardly any space ot hold this camera I feel. I think this camera has so many nice features that it is a good buy. Recommend for anyone who wants a compact warrior, the pictures are far superior to an IXUS model

I love this camera. It's a great travel digital camera. While it weighs more than I'd like, the features and performance are pretty amazing. My only frustration is the flash is a little slow when trying to take a quick picture. Sometimes it goes as planned with no issues and then there are those times when the flash doesn't work and the picture doesn't turn out as well. The video feature is beautiful and it turns out with enough light and sound quality that rivals my video camera.The PowerShot does take some great pictures in low or no light that is really impressive. I'm hoping that it's just a learning curve with the flash problems I've had using it and my pictures will just get better as I play more with the pictures.Amazon had the price of the PowerShot about $50 less than the electronic stores and what my credit card was offering using my points. It's a great deal and I am pleased with my purchase.

I bought this and the canon s95. I am a long time Canon owner, having owned the Sd750 for several years and having loved it. Mind you this review is from someone who uses the camera on Auto in Point-and-shoot mode only. The SX210IS simply did not measure up. While zoom is fantastic, pictures came out blurry and night/low light pictures were same as my old SD750. On the other hand, the S95 looked incredible in both day time and especially at night. I figured its more common to take pictures in the evening or night than to need 14x zoom, so I opted to keep the S95 instead. Also the video of the SX210is was surprisingly grainy. I took videos of the same scene with the SX210is and the S95 and my old camera. While the SX210is was marginally better than my old camera, the S95 blew them both away.One last thing, the flash placement is quite irritating. It was hard to hold the camera. While people may get used to it over time, forget about handing the SX210is to other people. No one could hold the camera right! The S95 has a pop-up flash as well, but there is space for your finger at least.

This is a very good camera, an amazing amount of quality in a small container which is good looking. I had seriously looked at the Panasonic Lumix ZS6 and ZS7, but chose the Canon Powershot SX210IS, based on reviews and specs. The picture quality is good, as is the video. Low light pictures are OK. My main problem is that the designers forgot that humans have to hold it. The flash, which rises up when the camera is switched on, is located where the left forefinger naturally holds the camera. Since my forefinger is pressing on top of the flash, the flash does not rise up, and is interpreted by the camera as that I do not wish to use the flash. Since I normally use the flash as a fill-in, I have to pull out the flash manually. This is a continuous nuisance.The camera is small and light, and I am afraid it will slip out from my hands. The small hand strap is liable slip off easily. A longer strap, for hanging around the neck would help.The absence of a print manual just makes the learning that much slower.

Hi all,I ordered this camera a week before and i got it delivered within 2 days .Its an awesome value for money camera.Its sturdy,heavy ,light on pocket camera.The picture quality is very good and neat. Overall it's a good camera with decent photo quality and HD video with excellent zooming capability. The photo quality is very good outdoor with plenty of light; but it is not so good indoor or at night. Photos of people indoor with flash on, taken in different settings including the auto mode, are just OK even when standing in front of them. Even ethough it's good enought for 4x6 photo prints, any zooming in when viewing the photos will show grainy deatails. The 14x zooming is awesome. However, distance objects taken when zooming in all the way are not very sharp, again, when zooming in during review. HD video is very good, and zooming during taking video is excellent. The assignment of one touche button for capturing video is a very convenient feature; one don't have to turn the dial back and forth between taking photos and video.In the end, I returned it and pay a little more for the Canon S95. I'm happy with the decision. Even though the zooming is not as good (only 3X) and can not be change while taking video, but the photo quality is exellent, day or night.

The camera is all that the reviews said it would be.My only negative comment is that the product descriptiondoes not list what comes in the camera package. I ordereda separate battery charger, only to find out a charger camein the camera package. It would be helpful if the Amazondescription of the product would list what comes with the item.

We recently purchased this camera based on a friend's recommendation and the reviews we read on Amazon. We were leaving for a trip and needed a camera fast. We couldn't be happier with this one! It took pictures in multiple types of weather, in daylight and at night and every picture turned out great. It zooms well too! It does use a lot of memory to make a video, so be sure to get a SD card of 4 or 8 KB.

I like this camera. It takes great photos and its optical zoom really good comparing with its small size. Canon powershot sx210is takes a very good quality pictures even if are taken from a far distance, the image stabilization really works well. Also, it's cheap comparing with the features wich it has. Definetly this camera is the best choice.

This is the best quality you will find in this price range, and for a ways above. One smart camera! Very quick focusing, motion shots are usually no trouble, and more features than this amateur reviewer will ever use...Really digging the easy controls when using program/manual modes, intuitive design makes it easy to adjust ISO and focus as well if you so desire. The piece that is usually a fixed four-way button on most cameras doubles as a dial here. Think Ipod style.And that zoom, ahhh. A little more speed wouldn't hurt, but it is amazingly clear up to the 56x digital max, able to read a bar code way across the room without leaving your chair. Surely there are more practical applications for that as well, but I didn't want to leave the chair to find them.Video was the only sore spot. Doesn't look like HD at all, and even worse in low light. Sort of makes up for it with excellent (point and shoot curve grading) audio quality. But with the size of that lens, there's only so much they can squeeze into the package! Very pleased with the purchase.

I received the camera for Fathers day and I am very pleased so far with the many options available and most of all I am able to shoot pictures on auto or easy without thinking about settings etc. However being able to manually adjust most settings allow me to learn and acquire skill as a hobby photographer.

This camera has a fantastic zoom, and takes great pictures both close and near. It is very easy to use and has on screen help to remind you what all those symbols mean. It's fast and light and the battery seems to last a long time.

I have to use a SLR camera for work so I know a little about ISO, apature, etc. I was looking for a personal camera that is small but with some of the controls that I have learned how to use. When I saw a small camera with a 14x Optical zoom I was very happy. But when I bought it and tryed to use it I found it doesnt have a image stablizer (I tend to shake) The instruction say if it shows the shaking image to put it on a tripod (not very often possible). Most of my photos were blury. When they werent blury they were very nice shots.I also found it hard to figure out where the menus were to change the settings, like light, and picture size. As they dont print books anymore I was trying to figure out the camera without any help (yes I know its on CD but hard to take a computer out when you're taking photos).I had some trouble with depth of focus. The camera was focusing on the wrong subject which kept flustrating me.Worked well in low light. And I used the video camera feature and thought for a small camera it did well. Not perfect but I could hear the voices and the focus was good. Still not a video camera.So this camera is going back to Amazon.

Another excellent Canon Point&Shoot. I love the optical zoom and image quality kicked out of this little camera. The only downside is the LCD screen on the back is not the best. I would opt for more pixels, so I can see the extreme details of my photos. All and all, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

This camera at times takes great photos...but I have run into the lens shadow problem. A bigger problem is that it does not focus well...fuzzy often, and photos are overexposed a lot. It's my least favorite Canon and I've owned a lot of them. I don't recommend this camera.

The canon sx 210is is a great camera for the price. Lots of good features and great quality photos and esp video. The zoom is slow. Had to get used to that. Overall good product and I have recommended it to a number of people looking for a small pocket camera with a larger zoom feature.

After reading most of the reviews that seem to have complained about some shadow that shows up in pictures, I decided to check it out myself. I didn't find that problem with my camera. The fact is that this is a great camera and very close to an SLR. It takes beautiful crisp pictures. The low light pictures are great, too. It has tons of features that give you control over ISO. It focuses on more than one face and helps with blinks too! I've owned several SLRs (Minolta and Nikon) but I wanted a small pocket size with a high zoom feature that I can grab on the go. This is it. Great macro shots and much more. Anyone who owns this camera should become familiar with it and play with settings to find what works best for them. Sure it's not perfect... The flash pops up where you would normally hold the camera with your left hand but it's not a deal breaker for me. Far better than having to carry a heavy SLR! I just LOVE it!

I bought this camera right before going on vacation to SC and only used it on the AUTO setting. The night photos did not come out, but the video capture was quite good. I am anxious to read the manual and try different settings.

I was hoping this camera would be a great family camera with enough zoom to make my husband happy, small, but still take decent pictures indoors. The white balance is better than the Canon SX110 I owned previously, but unless the subject is motionless the pictures turn out blurry. I hate using flash. To me that ruins a picture. So for outdoor pictures and even indoor with good lighting the pictures are beautiful. In medium-low to low light the pictures are mostly junk.I already own a DSLR and won't sacrifice quality, but really wanted something less bulky to lug around. So now I bit the bullet and ordered the Canon S95 which I am extremely excited to get, but unfortunately it is backordered until who knows when. I guess the moral of the story is, for this size camera you have to choose between getting zoom or getting a good low-light shooter. Or like me, you end up buying two cameras!

I've had Canons since my old film-based SLRs and know them well. When I moved to digital I relied on my old IS series cameras, but recent models have proven counter-intuitive and hard to adjust to capture low-light indoor shots, which we're all after given the flood of documentary/realty tv shows that light seemingly ordinary people so well. Canons struggled to do that in the past. But with this sleek, well-priced entry Canon allows you to adjust most relevant settings of F-stops and 'shutter' times, but also it's flash and intuitive programming make most indoor pictures warm, luminous and inviting where only SLRs dared tread before.It's worth it too as the user interface is smarter and easier to read, the LCD screen is huge and, what I find both Orwellian and joker like (but love it regardless) is the camera's 'smart mode' that will automatically take a picture of anyone smiling in its field of vision. =)

Sent this back. Images too soft and only 2 f stops make landscapes even softer.Should be fine for most point and shooters printing only 4X6 prints.

The camera produces good pictures. But the shutter leg is way too long and when you take videos the focus is slow to react so if you move the camera from one spot to another the picture becomes blurry until the focus adjusts which I find very annoying and I find myself not taking anymore videos because of that, it's that obvious. The pop up flash on the side of the camera is a design flow because it's exactly where you tend to put your fingers when you hold the camera, and you'll find yourself closing the flash again and again without noticing. I purchased this camera mainly for 14x zoom & 14 Mpx. So I compared this to my other dig-cams $400 DMC-ZS3 & $160 SD790. Well, if you take a close look, the images are not good. I can zoom in on my other camera images and get great detail. However, with this camera, zooming in, you find loss of detail due to hi ISO noise as well as JPEG artifacts. Since the max aperture is f/3.1, limited light causes AUTO mode to take shots with ISOs usually 160-400 range. The noise due to this is very visible compared to the clean 80-100 ISO range. On top of this, Canon decided that Fine mode is good enough and dropped SuperFine mode in favor of smaller size images. So there is additional JPEG artifact noise. (The DCT QT table is a lot more coarse especially on the chroma side, even at the DC level. This may explain the washed out & weird colors too.) I was looking forward to this camera based on specs, and waited 3 wks for it, but am extremely disappointed. 14 Mpx & $350, c'mon Canon! There is NO point in buying a 14 Mpx camera only to have the image quality ruined by ISO & JPEG noise.The LCD is not as bright as the SD790, and is effectively only 2.5" for 4:3 images. I also take lots of panos and find it difficult to move the wheel all the way around and choose SCN setup to stitch assist mode. This is a simple step on my SD790. Canon does not even provide a printed Users Guide.So I just had to return this! It's bad unless you just don't take a close look.What I did like was the 14x zoom, widescreen HD movies & images to match, custom timer up to 10 shots, manual controls, and good images at 80-100 ISO.Oddly enough, I was nervous about the pop-up flash & weird zoom lever, but they did not bother me at all.

im a avid dslr user. use P&S also for travel.great video. from a pic stand point, it is slow, recharge between pics is slow; also at 14x, the shake is quite visible. and the pictures are quite soft.there are options like Aperture, program.... but because of the sluggishness is snaping a shot, they are of not much use. I was forced to move to auto mode.i just posted it on ebay for sale.

We have had a Canon Rebel EOS for about ten years (with additional lenses), and have been really happy with it. The only probem? It is a large camera that has to be hauled around in a bag, and this isn't convenient for many times when you want to throw something in your pocket or purse. So we needed something smaller and lighter for those uses, and when you want to hand it off to a waiter or a bystander for a quick shot. We have been happily surprised with the quality of most of the pictures we have taken. I find myself taking a lot more pictures because this little baby is so convenient! Our larger camera has 16 pixel quality photos (which is still better for taking portraits, etc.), but, our new Canon Powershot has 14 pixels...such an improvement over those older models...I am in love!

This is a decent camera. Not the best I've owned but not the worst either. I dig the screen on the back but I'm not a fan of the flash. It is small and fits in my pocket so that's nice. All in all, for the price, it's good.

We can happy with both product and the service. All the items I've purchased had received on or before the date mentioned. I purchased the camera when I was in USA. But now I'm living in Sri Lanka, means I might have a problem with the warranty. But so far it is working properly. This little camera can get the pictures you want with just a little work ,not hard. Could pay more but why? This is all you need for the average person.

I've had the camera for about a month, it replaces an Olympus SP-350. I liked the Oly with the exception of long shutter lag in low light conditions and still use it for work photos.The image quality from the Canon are good but not quite a good as the Oly especially in low light conditions where they get a little grainy when enlarged. However, the shutter lag is much better and the focusing is much faster. The flash is a little weak.The menu system is a little confusing with modes and settings buried in the menu system rather than available from the dial. It will take some time to get used to. The manual is very brief and the supplied software is cumbersome in viewing and archiving photos.I haven't tried the manual settings to date; I'm still not comfortable with the menu system. In automatic mode my pictures have been good in all conditions from bright sunlight to dusk. The metering system and autofocus work well. I love the 14x zoom and the stabilization works well at full zoom.The video is suprisingly good although the sound is a little weak.Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Don't get me wrong by the title, this camera is amazing! The image quality is great, my only complaint is the low-light performance (it's not horrible, I'm just very picky. Which is why I gave it only 4 stars); but that is a downfall that almost every compact camera I've had has (minus my old Canon S100 Digital Elph, which still beats my newer Sony DSC-S650 & Nikon L11 compacts for overall image quality). My wife uses the camera all the time and loves the smile/wink feature (she loves self-shots, and this allows her to hold the camera steady and not have to push the button to take a photo). I love the manual control that this camera allows you to have, I feel it comes in second only to having a digital SLR.I would recommend the SX210is to anyone who is looking for a great, easy-to-use, compact camera.

This camera has AMAZING resolution, zoom, and video capability for a camera its size. I've read reviews saying that the flash location is annoying, but I've had no problems whatsoever. Highly recommended!

I have a very nice SLR for getting the good shots, but did not want to risk breaking or losing it on a trip to Africa. So I bought this little gem for my safaris and it did not disappoint. I brought home amazing photos and it was so easy to travel with. Fits in your pocket and the battery lasted quite a while. I only had to change out the battery once on an all day safari and I used my camera constantly. Unless you have a steady hand the pictures can start to get a little fuzzy after about 25x or so zoom, but the 14x zoom pics were stunning. The auto settings worked quite well for sunsets and other low light situations indoors as well. I think this camera has now replaced my SLR as the favorite. Don't even question whether this is a good buy and just get one.

I seldom write reviews, either something has to be a complete ripoff, or it has to knock my socks off! I have to say, this camera has blown me away! I have owned this camera for about a month. Last weekend I took it to an NBA game in which we had nosebleed seats, literally about 15 rows from the rafters. I was skeptical about the zoom function, but I was thrilled to see just how well the function works. We were taking photos of the players and the zoom was so efficient, we were able to get inside the team huddles. My adult kids have given my camera the nickname of "Stalker". This camera is by far the best of any digital camera I have owned and trust me, I have owned several. I can't wait to take it to the beach next summer to see what it can really do, given conditions such as sunlight and sunsets.

Its awesome zoom let's me take great pictures.I was gonna buy Kodak Easyshare Zoom 26x, but after doing some research and talking to a photographer he told me I should go for Canon or Sony.I can say I am very satisfied with this camera!!!Pros: great zoom, very good video quality, 14megapixels takes very good pictures, light weight, not AA battery, I bought an extra battery though so I can take lots of pictures.Cons: flash is not very fast, not very good for pictures in movement, like sports.I love Canon.

Pros: We bought this camera because it was rated the best compact digital camera on [...] for under $300, and we haven't been disappointed. The optical zoom is great, especially for the price. I'm a casual point-and-shoot photographer, but I think the image and video quality is amazing, so much better than our old camera. Haven't figured out all its features yet. Dense little guy, feels sturdy.Cons: There is slight motor noise when zooming during video capture, but much better than the digital camera it replaced. The battery has to be removed to be charged in the wall charger it comes with. Would be convenient if you could recharge it through the USB, but you can't, so consider buying an extra battery to swap in and out. I've seen some new cameras now with onscreen touch menus. This one doesn't have that, nor a view finder.Notes: Make sure you get the right SDHC flash memory card (with HC on the end) so you won't have problems recording video. We found a good deal on the Transcend 8 GB Class 6 (class is related to its transfer speed) SDHC, model TS8GSDHC6E.

It was a steal at $200 right after Thanksgiving. It is built very well - Made in Japan - and attention to detail is apparent - that is why all the cameras I have owned for the last 20 years have been Canons. I take one star away for poorer than expected low light performance. It is especially bad at 14x. The image quality with poor indoor lighting, and no flash used is very poor. I doubt that any camera in this price range would do any better though. If you are looking for compact camera with superzoom and HD video capability this one if hard to beat, especially if you are partial to Japanese made products.After couple of months I have to take another star away. This camera's autofocus hunts way too much and out of about 300 pictures I took so far at least 50 were out of focus. I have not had this problem with my other Canons.

This is a very nice camera. I am very impressed with the picture quality. The display is large and clear in good conditions, but in bright light I cannot see anything. The controls on the back of the camera take a bit of getting used to, bc they are small. Out of the box, you can definitely point and shoot but to really be able to understand this camera requires reviewing the manual. The zoom is great.The biggest drawback of this camera is the pop up flash, where it pops up is where your hand would normally rest to hold the camera steady to take a photo. It is almost a deal breaker for me.I bought it Dec 2011 for about $250 on Amazon.com.Hope this helps you. Happy Shopping.

Buy this camera, you will not be disappointed. I bought one for myself and my boyfriend for Christmas so I haven't used it much but I took some sunrise pictures on New Year's Day over the Atlantic city skyline and WOW, I never thought a small camera could capture such gorgeous shots, my facebook pages were all a buzz over the pictures. I am by no means a professional photographer but my pictures so far, make me look like I am. I look forward to learning more so that I can maximize the capabilities with this great camera. I can't say enough good things about it, the flash comes up when it needs to and goes back down by itself, it is very user friendly for even the novice photographer. 5 stars all around!!!

I'm a scrapbooker and have used digital cameras for years. After hours of research, I bought the Powershot, ready to take pictures of Halloween, my daughter in her first play, and 2 of my kids' birthday parties. What a disappointment! Pictures in regular light were blurry, color was off when I downloaded them, the flash many times wouldn't go off when it was needed (yet the flash was up), pictures in low light were awful, and anything that moved (i.e. MY KIDS!) turned out really blurry. All these pictures were taken in the Auto or Easy mode (two different modes)... My camera that's 5+ years old did a lot better than this one. If I can't get good pics. in Auto/Easy mode, it's not worth it to me. I'm a mom of 3 and don't have the time to set up every little picture. I'm returning it and am highly considering a Panasonic.
