I have little to add to Stephen's comprehensive review except to say I love this camera as well. So this review will be more of a first impression "gut" feel about this camera.I also miss a viewfinder and have the same trouble with my finger getting in the way of the pop-up flash. Both are minor issues.I own a Nikon D90 and D300, but I also travel with a small PowerShot as my "pocket camera." My first was a SD900, followed by an SD990IS (which was a slight improvement). Yet I was never really happy with the image quality of either, and the video was a greater disappointment.I was about to buy a top-rated S90, in spite of its age in digital camera terms. Yet I opted to pre-order the SX210IS, as newer is generally better.Both the 14.1 MP 14X Zoom are a bit over the top - I'd prefer a wider angle and not so much zoom! Yet no regrets - image quality, color saturation and HD video quality are noticeably better than the SD ELPH series (some costing more than the SX210IS).I just bought two 32 GB SD cards and can't wait to shoot lots of street photos and some video on an upcoming trip to Barcelona. This camera is perfect in places where expensive DSLR or HD camcorder equipment would attract the attention of petty thieves.I did have one instance while photographing kids, where the camera simply would not auto-focus. Yet that may have been new-user error, as I had my D90 in the other hand. No problems since.When a new HD model of the S90 is released, I'll likely give away my SX210IS, as I did with my previous PowerShots. I hope it is not soon, as my new SX210IS is the first ever PowerShot that I am truly happy with.

I was debating on getting a regular pocket size camera or a big DSL camera and ended up with this one. I took it on vacation to the jungle and was able to zoom in and take pictures of animals and birds at the very top of the canonpy tree-line. I love this camera and have recommended it to all my friends!

Wanted a purse camera with easy auto shooting for sports, parades, school functions. Pictures are blurry or dark b/c in auto mode the flash doesn't fire. Had to switch to Manual mode to get the flash to even fire. And, yes, I manually would lift the flash before turning the camera on. I read the whole manual to try and figure this thing out. Low light and night conditions are horrible for this camera and it can not be used for point and shoot. Auto mode and easy mode do not work either. I'm now looking into getting a Lumix again.

I'm editing this review again, now that I've had it for several months.I bought this to replace my Canon SD600. I do LOVE the zoom lens, it's the only reason why I am going to hang on to this camera. the wide angle is nice to have too. but more and more, I have been choosing to bring my SD600 with me since it is smaller and in many ways, better. two reasons why:1. for the SX210IS, consistency is unreliable. sometimes I get amazing photos, sometimes they are bad-- blurry (even when I'm using a tripod), too dark, too light, etc. when I get a good photo, it is awesome. but for the most part I feel like I could trust the SD600 more.2. image detail when viewing @ 100% on my computer--- as a test, I shot several photos on auto mode in my living room, focusing on a painting that was about 8 feet away from me. There was plenty of light. on my computer, I zoomed in at 100% and compared the sd600 and sx210 photos side by side. the details of the painting were much sharper on the old sd600 every time-- with or without flash. (note: images were in focus and my hand was steady.) I heard this is an issue with many of the new compact cameras. companies are trying to pack in as many megapixels as possible, but the sensors are not good enough. megapixels don't matter if the sensor sucks.

This is the best P&S camera I have ever purchased. There is little positive I can add that has not already been said, so I will only list my otherwise minor gripes about an otherwise great product.Most armatures (like me) will find themselves using the AUTO feature quite often, at least until they are confident enough with the more specialized settings, and for the most part it is a great feature. One aspect I like is the ability to focus the AUTO setting to adjust based on the area of the scene that is most important. Such as center, surroundings, and full scene. However if you intend to take a lot of quick shots, it takes a few seconds to 'prep' the shot before it is perfect, which might be irritating... This is also the case when taking video. If you make rapid changes in distance and lighting, the few seconds of blur can be irritating.Another thing is the speed with which the camera actually takes the pictures. Mine seems to pause about 3 seconds between every snap while I hold down the button. And this is even with preview disabled. Reducing the picture resolution doesn't seem to have any effect either. Perhaps a faster SD card might help, but they get very expensive past the 15Mb/s rating. I wish there was a way to speed this up.Lastly, the microphone. It is stereo, which is nice, but it seems to dull the higher ranges and is very easy to accidentally cover up with your fingers while taking long videos.

Very nice camera with excellent zoom and photos. It's quite complicated unfortunately to find information because the user guide is online and is very long to print. I needed information quickly that I had to go online to look up. Too bad they don't include the guide with the camera

This review is my personal opinion. I bought this camera elsewhere, but Amazon is still perfectly safe. The SX210IS has a wide screen LCD. This is great is you like to take a lot of movies. If not, the screen is just too big for the pictures that it takes. I bought it mistakenly thinking that it could take shots in the same shape as a print, that is 4 by 6. But this camera does not do that. It takes 4:3 shots and 16:9 shots (as in standard and wide screen TVs). Most folks will want 4:3 and for this, the screen is too wide. The camera has what reviewers call "heft." I call it heavy. Too heavy for my shirt pocket. On the plus side, it takes very decent pictures and has a number of settings usually found on SLRs, such as Aperture and Speed priorities. In short, if you want a mini-SLR and you don't mind the default 4:3, than this camera will work great. On the other hand, if you want a second camera, one to just throw in your purse or carry in your pocket, then look for something lighter.

I purchased this camera on April 17th and have taken 200 photos in the last week. My battery indicator still has a full charge. The low light and natural light photos are great and I am very happy with my purchase. I was concerned that you only get a basic printed manual and the rest is on a CD. However, after reviewing the manual on my computer, there weren't any sections that I felt I needed to print out. The on screen menus are easy to follow and the pop-up flash, while somewhat annoying, hasn't been a problem for me. I do what another reviewer suggested and hold my finger over it when I turn on the camera. It appears to be more fragile than my Fuji Finepix J10 and I find myself being extra careful and gentle with it. But it may just seem so since it cost so much more. I find myself wanting to go on vacation or to the zoo so I can take some really cool photos to compare with my other two cameras (the Fuji and a Panasonic DMC-FZ30). All in all, I am very pleased.For those of you wanting a hard shell case to protect this camera, I finally found the right fit in the Case Logic SLDC-202 Compact Camera Case. It will fit your camera perfectly with a hard shell on both front and back, and there is a front pocket for a spare battery and memory card.

I read a lot before buying this, the main problem with it is it's shutter lag and the complexity to make your own settings, the picture quaility is just okay. If you are to buy a compact camera don't think twice, spend a couple of more bucks and get the LX-5, that one is amazing.

Purchased this camera right before Christmas. I'm still learning to use all the features. So far, I have been pleased with the pictures. I tried the video indoors and the quality was good; however, there appears to be some focus blurr during shooting. Still haven't used the camera outdoors yet.

I'm a professional photographer who is bitten by the point-and-shoot bug. I purchase a new point-and-shoot about once every year and a half. Not because I "need" one but because I'm on a quest to find the best one for the money. I am interested in long zooms with strong image quality, especially in the higher ISO's. Also, good focusing in low light is very important, as I like to photograph candids with no flash indoors. This camera has it all in these categories. The image quality is excellent and the zoom range is wide and long. It's the widest I've had in this price range and at 14x is long enough to get some excellent telephoto shots. Also, it's small enough to fit in the pocket, which was very important to me. I also love the matrix meter in this camera. It is not as affected by back lighting situations as my other point and shoots.

I purchased this camera for my mother who is by no means technically savvy. She has had the camera about a month and has taken it on one trip already. The camera is very easy for her to operate and the screen is improved from other Canons. The use of this camera in low light is one of many reasons I chose it. The main downside of the camera is a design flaw: where one would traditionally hold a camera there is a pop up flash which is held down by your left index finger. Avoiding this causes you to hold the camera a bit awkward.

I'll leave the technical reviews to others. I bought the SX210 primarily for the 14x zoom and it has let me get some fantastic photos. I was even at one event where a guy with a digital SLR who had been sitting behind me came up to me at the end and asked me about the SX210 because he had seen (over my shoulder) the shots I was getting with the zoom and was impressed.I did have one surprise though. Apparently the LCD display is polarized. I found this out the first time I tried to take a vertically oriented picture while wearing sunglasses and all of a sudden the LCD went totally black on me. It took me a few seconds to realize that the LCD was still on - I just couldn't see it due to the combined effects of the polarization of my sunglasses and the polarization of the LCD display when holding the camera vertically.

I purchased Both a SX210 and a ZS7 because Amazon reviews indicated that they were both excellant cameras and I could not decide which one to buy so I now have 2 great (small) cameras. After taking neumerus pictures and video I determined that the 2 cameras were both high quality with great video. I especially liked the date stamp feature in the SX210 and I liked the instant creation of High definition (AVCHD) DVDs using the included Panasonic ZS7 software program. Otherwise the 2 cameras were equivelant and I am very happy with both.

I was so impressed with this camera that I bought a second one for my wife!There is no need to repeat other people's comments, so I will raise several new points. First, the true test of any camera is how well it photographs oil paintings. This camera is suburb. My wife is an artist and photographing her paintings is always a challenge. I followed a tip on the internet and chose Scene -- autumn leaves. This pumps up the color slightly and makes the photos close to the original. We compared the photos with the original paintings and they were mighty accurate in color reproduction. The photos are much better than what my wife obtained using professional photographers in the past.Second, the camera does well with photos partly in the shade and partly in the sun. I would say that results are very near that obtained with film SLR cameras. Most digital camera freak out under such circumstances.Third, the camera performs extremely well under low level light conditions.For the size,features and performance, this camera can't be beat.I bought spare genuine Canon batteries and I get about 230 photos per charge, which is more than adequate.

Very nice camera. MADE IN JAPAN. Feels nice with aluminum body, not cheap plasticy. Pictures in restaurant at ISO 200 & 400 (without using flash) turns out very nice, provided the subjects stay still for the shot. I bought this at $199 on a sale here, and I'm loving it.

Overall it's a good camera with a lot of feature. As a Canon product, it provide good quality of picture. So far I don't have any complain.

Bought this camera to take to concerts. Needed a big zoom, great low light performance, HD video and a lot of battery. Ordered on-line since all local stores had been sold out for several weeks. First Canon I have ever owned. It was worth the wait. Easy to use yet comes packed with every manual feature you could need. The zoom is remarkable. The HD video performed like a much bigger camera. Battery lasts - even with video. Low light pictures are remarkable. If you are looking for a concert camera - you cannot do better.The complaints about the flash placement are overstated. It only took a few minutes to learn how to hold it and it is easy to reactivate the flash if your finger holds it down.I have only owned this camera for a month and it has already made a big impression. In my camera bag, I will carry my Nikon digital SLR when I can and this little beauty when I can't.

There has been much written about this camera, I bought it based on good reviews but I returned it for one reason and one reason only- too much lag. I photograph action almost exclusively and in continuous mode with a class 10 high speed card it was painfully slow. I wanted to love this camera- still looking...

I was very excited to get this camera until I used it. My husband bought it because our Olympus wasn't quick enough to catch our toddler on the go. This camera snapped the shot but no matter which setting it was on, it was blurry. The Olympus was much clearer. Also, the flash is in an awkward place. I'm so use to putting my finger on the top that I stopped it from automatically popping up every time. I returned it after trying for a week.

I am a Real Estate Appraiser and purchased this camera for work. For the past three months it is used almost daily and I typically take between 100-200 photos per week. The camera is heavier than others although the quality of the photos, display, and flash were worth the price. Most of the interior photos are crisp and the wide angle setting works well in large unlit rooms. These cameras eat batteries quickly so I recommend an extra battery and car charger. Many of these are available on Amazon.com. This is my first Canon camera and was a good choice. Another camera considered was the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 although I had concerns of it's lot light issues. Remember it is not an SLR but for a pocket camera in my business I love it.

Studied so many online reviews and thought this was the one! What a disappointment. After taking some pics, that look good enough on the camera...then downloaded to PC. They are too soft and granulated when zooming in on the PC monitor. Yuck! My old Canon SD780IS was way better! The camera has so many nice features, but the most important thing is good-quality pics! I am now shipping this back to Amazon, so glad that they allow returns!

The LCD is not as vibrant and detailed as it should be at this price. It looks pale, grainy, and washed-out even in normal room light. The resolution is disappointing and that makes it difficult to use the LCD when evaluating the effect of different settings in the field. I found the lower dial to be very touchy and its being unlabeled just makes using it even more annoying. I find this dial to be very touchy and that does not suit my large hands. The flash always deploying at power-up is a distraction and an annoying gimmick. I seldom use flash, so it is particularly irksome for me. I had higher hopes for this camera and its high zoom range and presumably decent performance. For me, there are better cameras at this price point. This camera may suit you just fine only you can tell. For me, though, I am returning the camera for the issues I've cited.

Overall great camera. However, seems to have a problem finding focus, especially if there is slight movement and with inside photos. After buying the camera, I went on a trip during which time I took about 150 photos. About 20% came out a bit blurry or seemed slightly out of focus (about 10% was caused by movement). Also, unlike with SLR's (or DSLR's), does not work well with depth perception.

Excellent camera, great pictures, but the movie format MOV does not play back, it does it only in the camera. The other Canons that I own use AVI format which plays without problems in any computer. I have tried to download software but videos play back with lines across not showing any of the images. I would like to solve this problem. Unfortunately, Adorama allows only 14 days to return the merchandise, being out of the country taking pictures and movies for 18 days, just now I was able to download the movies to the computer and have no success in playing. Now I am stuck with a great photographic camera but a useless video camera.

I've had several Canon SD and SX cameras and were generally satisfied and considered myself very loyal to Canon products. I returend this item after 1 day of testing it. The zoom is extremely slow. The picture quality is sub-standard for my taste. The camera is weighty and actually difficult to hold, something about it's shape you don't feel you can get a good grip on it to point and shoot. The on/off button on top is miniscule. The zoom trigger, besides zooming slowly, it tiny and difficult to operate. Basically the ergonomics just aren't there, along with slowness. I'm going to try out the new Nikon S8000 and see how that goes.

I researched camera reviews for about 4 months before deciding on theCanon SX210 IS. I LOVE this camera! I wanted the quality of a DSLR camera,in a point and shoot size. Well, this camera exceeds my expectations! Especiallythe 14x optical zoom, it's amazing! The clarity, quality and colors are excellent!I saw some personal reviews about shadowing, but none of my photos have ever hada shadow and I have taken hundreds and hundreds of photos already. All I haveexperienced are great photos so far. If you are considering this camera, you won'tbe dissappointed! Great camera!!

Easy to use, however, one's left hand can very easily be in the way of the flash as it will automatically rise when the camera is turned on. The telephotic aspect is exceptionally good. The on/off button is too small and can be difficult to push.

I upgraded to this camera from an SD790 from canon.. I also own a rebel xt. If you like ease of use and the really cool features like color accent, and color swap....this is awesome . The zoom on this thing is also incredible. We do lots of watersports, so being able to zoom rather than risk getting the camera wet is great for us. Also the video from it is incredible, though it does require a well lighted area to prevent graininess. All in all, it is the best camera I have owned yet. I am a die hard canon fan and once again very satisfied.

This camera is just excellent. The other review pretty much said it all. For the money the picture quality, HD video(stereo) and incredible zoom are an unbeatable combination. The camera is built solid like a tank. For around 350 dollars you cannot do better I would say after looking around. It is great in low light as well and can be run full manual. The position of the flash at first sems strange but after you get uesed to it it actually is not bad at all. You can simply close it if you want to and leave the flash on. I strongly recommend this camera. It really produces excellent pictures under many different conditions and that is the bottom line..

Well, I agree with everything that the guy who wrote the long review said. Great camera and perfect if you want something in between a fancy, do everything camera and one that you just want to take out for a night on the town or hiking. I definately agree that you should read thru the (cough) 180 page manual. Which is only available on disk. It took me only a couple of hours to learn all the basics and have fun with all the cool functions...like fish eye and sepia. It even has a great function that allows you to create panoramic pics with your computer. Excellent photos. So, overall...a winner for me.

This is a great camera. It takes beautiful pictures about as well as an SLR camera! The only downfall, is the high amount of megapixels make the videos harder to download. Not a big problem and its worth it for the beautiful pictures!

"All in one" pocket camera is the best description.It seems to do everything.28mm-392mm is amazing for a pocket camera.It takes a little knowledge and respect to use such a small camera with this long of a lens.With practice the 392mm lens will reward anyone, with more pictures to bring home, then other cameras with lesser lenses.Easily best in its class

I guess like with any new camera, it takes a while to figure out all the features. I find many of the cool features take several steps to access. And when you turn on the camera, most times I forget to lift my finger so the flash can come up (not that I use flash all that often). The menu wheel is also a bit difficult to turn on the fly. But the 14X optical zoom is great! And the tilt-shift mode is pretty fun, and the video quality is good.

Although I could not find this specified in any of the manufacturers information on line, I didsee in the accompanying documentation that Canon recommends the user buy a flash card that is atleast 15mb/s. This is also called a class 4 flash card.

Аппарат очень хорош как портативная качественная камера для непрофессиональной съёмки как на природе, так и в помещении.
Много всевозможных предустановленных режимов, когда не нужно думать как снимать,...

Фотоаппарат супер! Работает уже больше 7 лет - как часы. Есть с чем сравнить, у меня есть зеркалка canon 60d и куча объективов, фильтров, вспышка и т.д., в общем целый...

вoт уже пол года, как я владeю сим фотоаппарaтом, и тепeрь хочу поделиться впечaтлениями.
дoлго думал что же мнe взять:
зеркaлку, Панaсоник 8, Сони 10 или Канон210и.
я прeдпочитаю кaчество фотoграфии так как иногда размeщаю фото в газeтах или сети.
зеркaлка отпала, так как громoздко и нет видеo, а я выделяю компaктность, Сони отпaл по причине прoизводства КНР, про Панасoник - да, этo был трудный выбор, тaк как Панaсоник мод8 - произвoдства Япония, - был кoнечно хорошим!
Нo я выбрал Кaнон 210и, и не пoжалел!
плохoго ничего такого замeчено не было, было вот что:
1. цвeта натуральные, яркoстные параметры не искaженные и автоматом "вытягиваются", мoжно снимать и бeз вспышки, вытягивает кaртинку. а геометрические искaжения очень малы.
2. упрaвление удобное, колeсико программ и широкий экрaн - понятные. элeгантные.
3. все прoисходит быстрo и без казусов.
4. сдeлано в Японии и брэнд - хoроший, ибо Канон это серьeзная фото-фирма!
5. eсть тут 14 мегапиксeл и 14 зум, хорoшо. (и жена моя испoльзует его как бинoкль))
6. для авторских фотографии есть ручной режим где можно подстроить выдержку и диафрагму, а также необычные подстройки освещения. и вообще есть основные режими которые характерны для зеркалок, качество снимков как у средней зеркалки (но все это при компактых размерах!)
7. вaжную роль сыграло то обстoятельство, что есть запись фoрмата АжДимиай, 1080\720 тoчек, а у меня бoльшой телевизор и eще большие амбиции))! и кстaти, это качeство редко бывает в зeркалках.
8. инструкция книгoй и меню в аппарaте на русском языке, имeeтся ещё изумительная прогрaмма обработки фото и видеo для ПК (на компакт диске в кoмплекте) и мнe такой расклад пoказался очень полезным и удoбным.
в общeм, уважаемые, проблeм я не ощутил,
прoблемы вспышки от прeдыдущего Какон-200 в этой модели были ужe устранены, стoил фотоаппарат в Озоне примeрно на 20% дешевле чeм в нашем чудном городке, и на прaктике все происходило: быстро, крaсиво, без "сучка и задoринки", аккумулятора хвaтало на много дней, ну, примeрно 200 кадров можно отснять, или бoльше, зарядка компактная, прaвда аппарат не работает без кaрты памяти и ее пришлoсь сразу ставить ..., фотографировaл я уже мнoго чего в разных режимах, и не перeстаю удивляться продумaнности всего и вся до сих пoр!! в общем все исправнoе и красивое благодаря фирмe Канон (и Озону тоже)). Приобрел я дополнительно простой японский чехол на рeмень за 450 рублей, карту клaсса№10 4мег за 450 рублeй, а вот с АжДимиай кабелем за 550 рублей для телeвизора оказалась проблемка - нет звука, oказалось кабeль и не поддерживает звук, сдал кaбель, такой-сякой казус, но уважаемые, картинка на телевизоре была просто удивитeльная! И пока я довольствуюсь этим сaмым видео на экрaне компьютера, увы.
Нaдо oтметить и недостатки этoго аппарата:
1. Микрoфоны направлены вверх, и слeдовательно, зaпись звука на видeо хорoша в помещениях, стaновясь на природе - пoчти бесполезной, дa и на вспышку на это местo пo привычке "лoжится" лeвый указательный пaльчик! Лучшe бы микрофоны спереди постaвили!
2. Спрaва и слева, мнe кажется, можнo было бы встaвить резинoвые встaвки, чтобы дeржался аппарат более бы устойчиво в рукaх.
3. Тут в озoне не предлагается допoлнительных аксессуарoв, да и сам фотоаппарат прoдается не постоянно, ну нaпример, меня интересует бокс для подвoдной съемки, и не могу найти, .. этo серьезно про аксессуары то, косяк.
Нo эти недостатки подaвляются многими и мнoгими прeимуществами фотoаппарата и добротным видеo.
об пoкупке не жалею.

Покупал эту мыльницу ровно 5 лет назад за 9300 рублей.Она просто восхитительна - у CCD матрицы невероятно качественная цветопередача,даже на зеркалках с CMOS не всегда удаётся получить...

Качествао изображения ровно такое, какое и дает матрица такого размера. Мои старые Олимпус FE-120 и Samsung L55 W при хорошем освещении также делают очень хорошие снимки. Эта камера, в отличие от них, прекрасно стабилизирует изображение и делает хорошие не смазанные...

Очень долго и тщательно выбирала фотоаппарат! Прочитала все отзывы в интернете,выслушала консультации менеджеров различных магазинов, где уяснила об этой модели только одно - неудобная вспышка (минус) и близость к профессиональным аппаратам (плюс). Действительно по ценовой категории, данный фотоаппарат уже нельзя назвать мыльницей, но и до профессионального ему далеко. До этого пользовалась также Кэноном (по-моему модель А550), поэтому между Никоном и Кэноном победил опять же Кэнон. Кто пользовался данной маркой поймет, поскольку интерфейс очень удобный и понятный. На момент покупки (конец 2011 г.) это была одна из последних моделей кэнона в пермских магазинах. Далее уцже шли модификации с блютусом, gps и прочим. Для фотоаппарата это точно не нужные дополнения, поскольку садят батарею. Соглашусь с написанными ранее отзывами(достаточно эмоциональными): прекрасные фото, яркие, четкие, легок и прост в обращении и с этой потрясающей вспышкой чувствуешь себя профессоналом! Однако не так то просто пользоваться профессиональным аппаратом, а полупрофессиональным тем более. Не всегда фото в автоматическом режиме получаются такими, как хочется. Фотоаппарат долго фокусируется, но если не дашь ему на это время, то фото получится размытым или не таким четким. Чаще всего он сразу предупреждает, что при съемке трясутся руки. Многие пишут в интернете, что с этим аппаратом начинаешь задумыться о приобретении профессионального. Действительно, при неумелом обращении чувствуется, что чего то не хватает. Не постигала науку профессионального фотографирования и делала снимки только в предложенных режимах. Так и не научилась фотографировать объекты в движении, без вспышки получаются смазанными, со вспышкой не всегда подходит освещение.(см.фото 3 с рыбками). Может это конечно "руки не оттуда растут". Но действительно с этим фотоаппаратом надо учиться фотографировать правильно. Прежняя модель мне нравилась все таки тем, что со вспышкой она фотографировала любые объекты идеально) Поэтому подумайте, что вы ждете от фотоаппарата. Красивые снимки нужно уметь создавать. Надеюсь не сильно напугала своим отзывом, все-таки большинство фотографий получаются прекрасными) вспышка неудобна только тем, кому ты даешь себя фотографировать)) а сам то быстро привыкаешь. В этой модели кэнона необычный рычаг приближения/увеличения, тоже пришлось привыкнуть. В целом, аппарат отличный, сейчас на него цена не так уж и высока. Поэтому соотношение цена/качество идеальное.
