This camera worked great - for a while. When I was into my second week in Italy, it quit reading a charged battery so I was unable to use it. Good thing I had a camcorder and iPad with me, but what a hassle! I'm very disappointed.

So many settings to tinker with, so little time =) This little camera rivals the functionality and flexibility of a DSLR but is much smaller. Takes superb shots! The better you know how to customize settings, the better the results -- yes, it can help a budding photographer learn due to the number of settings the user can control. The only thing I don't like (and it's relatively minor) is that the flash pops up automatically when the camera is turned on regardless of what mode the camera is in -- I'd forgive it on the automatic modes, but it shouldn't pop up when shooting in manual or P. That flash preference wouldn't keep me from purchasing this camera again, though.

I've had this camera for a few years now and even though I own DSLRs, this little thing is still my go to camera when I need decent quality pictures and not in the mood to pack a huge camera bag. The pictures are of decent quality, and the camera has great battery life. There are a number of settings that I love using, primarily tilt-shift mode manages to make boring things quite interesting.What sets this camera aside from all others is its amazing durability, this little thing has survived a minor flood (not that I recommend this for pooltime), a number of accidental drops, a few stomps, a toddler chewing on it and an overzealous dog. It's got the scars to prove it! If you're looking for a point and shoot that's got it all, this is it.

A compact camera with big camera capablities. Yes, it takes some reading on how to use the settings as well as some trial, error and research on how to take a good picture using settings other than "automatic". Once you get that down, you're golden. It's got a big screen, a good zoom for what it is and multiple functions to take excellent and unique photos. I know that I've taken many that do not even need to be photoshopped before printing and framing, the photos were that good, or maybe it was just me. Regardless, I love this camera.

Why is there such a learning curve with a point and shoot camera?! Granted the extra/advanced options are nice, but if I just want to take a simple picture I should be able to without putting much thought into it. It is a total hit or miss on whether or not you will get a good photo with this camera. Most of the images are grainy when you zoom in or too dark. Forget about taking a picture in low light conditions, absolutely horrible. My Sony Cybershot DSC-T10 takes much better pictures, the only reason I upgraded was for the super zoom, but it absolutely was a mistake. Oh and this camera is an ergonomic fail! The dial to change settings is absolutely horrible. I have small fingers, so I wonder how those with large fingers work with that dial. I've had this camera for a while now so it can't be returned. I'll have to sell on ebay and take a loss.

I really enjoy this. Good zoom. Good picture quality. The only thing I can think of that would be considered negative would be that the flash is placed exactly where you want to put your finger. Other than that, everything is great.

A bit of background: I am a reasonably serious photographer, and I normally shoot with a Nikon DSLR. I bought this camera when I was looking for a lightweight camera that I could use indoors and outdoors. I also expected it to take reasonable movies indoors and outdoors.I've had the camera for more than a year, and all I can say about it is that I am seriously unhappy with it. It does take reasonable still pictures outdoors, and that's about it. I find the indoor performance for still pictures to be poor, and I find the movie performance to be poor both indoors and outdoors. In movie mode, the camera is unable to find and maintain focus, and indoor exposure in settings such as concerts is positively abysmal.I'd summarize my feelings by saying that I totally regret my purchase, and wish I had looked some more before buying. I REALLY DISLIKE THIS CAMERA.

After just a year, my Canon Powershot SX210 IS is useless. First only one dust particle appeared - it was inside the camera so no amount of lens care would rectify the problem. I compensated by using retouch using Picasa. That worked only for a time and then many blotches appeared - again inside the lens. I have tried to figure out how to fix this but have yet to find a solution.For the "top end" of the Canon line - this is unacceptable. I do not recommend buying from Canon until they come up with a solution.If there were an automobile, there would be a recall.

I wanted a camera that would be simple to use. My husband has used a Canon AE1 for years and took excellent photos. I knew this camera wouldn't take the same quality pictures that he takes but thought they would be better than what they are. This camera is a total waste of money. I am in the market to find a camera and it will not be a Canon this time.

Reviewed by my wife--I'm a pretty experienced photographer, but couldn't bear with the thought of taking my beloved Canon dSLR on a cruise. Instead, I searched high and low for the perfect compact camera and fell in love with the Canon PowerShot SX210IS. I purchase it in 2010 before my honeymoon to the Bahamas and have used it for multiple vacations since. It will go fully automatic, which is rare in a point and shoot, and it takes amazing photos. I've taken shots in Nassau, Freeport, Cocoa Beach, Miami, Charleston, St. Thomas, Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, San Juan, Nags Head, Washington D.C., etc. It'll also be with me this fall when I visit Mexico, Belize and Isla Roatan. The only time I've ever had any problem with photo quality is in some low light situations where I refused to use the flash. I prefer natural light and only use the flash when forced to. The zoom is more than adequate and the picture quality is superb. I absolutely recommend this camera. It's the only one I can find that can stand up to my dSLR.

I LOVE this camera. Purchased it so I would have a good camera to take on my honeymoon. The pictures were clear and I have never had a problem with it.

I love this camera! Being in the broadcast television industry, I needed something that has excellent quality, that wont take me ages to set up to take a shot. This camera was the answer. And it is possible to get that professional-looking, "blurry background effect." For close up shots, such as flowers, the camera automatically goes into macro-mode and will auto-focus on the subject. If you want the effect on a person- stand at least 25 feet away from your subject, and fully zoom in on them. I found this works by keeping the camera in "auto" mode. Also, this makes excellent HD videos as well! I saw the band Berlin in concert recently after I purchased the camera, and was able zoom in on Terry Nunn singing. When I could hold the camera still enough, the video *almost looked professional-quality. Highly recommend this camera!

This takes incredible photos if there is a lot of light. But even with every light on in our house, indoors it fails. I know you can play with the settings and I have taken college level photography classes and I still cant get great photos indoors.

This was my first digital camera that my mom got me for my birthday over 2 years ago. It's a great camera for everyday use and takes excellent pictures. I love the purple/magenta color that makes my camera very distinctive and easy to recognize. This camera has a very good zoom. Takes okay night photos.

great little camera that takes very nice images and color. neat little devices like taking pics with subject wink or when teeth show. cannot for the life of me figure out how to send images on a mac.

I got this at a great price and have had a couple years now. It's a great point and shoot camera that I've recommended to friends. The zoom is awesome.

I bought this camera after going on a camping trip with some friends who had this camera. She had just purchased it and was "playing" around with it all weekend. I didn't use it personally, but she raved about how much she liked it. 3 weeks before taking my son to Disneyland for the first time, my orginal camera came up missing. After turning the house upside down for a week, I decided that my camera was gone and needed to purchase a new one before our trip. After a few days of reading endless reviews, I settled on this camera and I couldn't be happier!First of all, I got the camera about 3 days before we left for our trip, so I didn't have much time to learn how to use it. That said, for a low tech. person such as myself, I found the camera very easy to use and was pleased with the many different shooting options. The zoom is the best feature by far. I was able to zoom in on my son's face as he watched the parade or I could set it to autoshoot and take several pictures in a row as he went around on the carousel or other circular rides. Some of the pics came out blurry in this setting but there was always one good "keeper"! Other things worth noting are the stabilized zoom (very nice), the large LCD screen, and how compact it is! Although I wouldn't suggest carrying it in your pocket, it is slim enough to do so in a pinch. And has the zoom capabilities of much more expensive and bulky cameras.Overall, I love this camera! I hope to use it for many years to come!

I don't understand the positive reviews for this camera. I hate it with a passion. I bought it as a compromise between my old clunky Olympus 12x zoom and my compact Canon Powershot 4x zoom, both of which had started to malfunction. I thought this camera would have it all - great pictures, powerful zoom, in a compact body. I was wrong. This camera is slow, SLOW, S-L-O-W!!! Takes too long to focus, terrible shutter lag so that you often miss the shot by the time the camera takes the photo. Also takes much too long in between shots. Its "burst" mode is laughable, don't even bother - .5 frames per second!!! To get anything resembling a decent burst mode (such as when you want to capture action shots during your kids' soccer games), you need to lower the image resolution to capture more than half a shot per second, so much so that the pictures end up not being usable. Not a good camera if you want to take photos of your kids - most of the time, you'll miss the shot. Photo quality is nothing special. Performance in low light is poor. I've put this camera away and don't even use it anymore, I hate it so much.

I have enjoyed using my camera for several years! I know I still have not used all of the features! It takes great close ups as well as telephoto shots! Good movies also! I would recommend to all novice camera users!

I've owned two Canon cameras in the past, both which took great pictures and were your simple everyday point-and-shoot. I needed a new camera and this time, decided to go a little higher and buy the best point and shoot at the time. Boy, was I wrong. The camera takes great pictures, when you have light. The dark settings do nothing so any picture you take not under light comes out horrible. The 720p video is pix-elated and blurry, and I'm sure is not native 720p, because the picture is horrible. Not crisp or clear. And if you do manage to record a video you like, and want it on your computer, you'll probably end up with same problem I have and the video will be corrupted once its on your computer. I sent my camera in to Canon for repair since it was under warranty to see if they could fix the problem. The RMA said they replaced the motherboard, but when I got the camera back, I was still having the same problem. And for no reason after video recording for 20 minutes, the camera shuts off the record by itself and after recording for half an hour, the battery dies. I couldn't believe all the problems I had with this camera when I've only owned few cameras in my lifetime. Canon really disappointed me on this model, and if you want a good point-and-shoot with good video, DON'T BUY THIS.

I personally really enjoy photography, and I like to use professional level equipment. I'm not talking about a having a digital SLR kit either, I'm talking about high quality professional glass, so when I go out shooting I take it very seriously. But as most people who enjoy semi-professional photography they don't enjoy lugging the equipment, and this Canon Powershot really is a nice addition to my equipment inventory that has really brought some joy to my overall experience. The macro images are really quite excellent, the landscape images are very good, and the ability to zoom in tight is really quite amazing. I find that I can actually take many pictures that I don't miss my SLR. Then there's the 720p video with a very good built-in condenser microphone.I like the adjustments and flexibility of the camera. You can easily over-ride the flash to fill, you can change the color settings fairly easy before shooting a video, and when changing color and white balance settings you immediately see your changes in the screen. You really just need to spend about a 1/2 hour messing with the device to figure out how it worked. Maybe it was an hour, anyway it wasn't difficult, and I didn't have to sit and read the manual. If you don't know photography you will need to read it, but otherwise you'll be fine. The function wheel is pretty cool, lightly touch the wheel in any of the four corners and macro, exposure adjustments, flash control, and timer pop onto the screen, so you can make quick adjustments without going thru the menus.The video quality is not on the level of the still image quality, and I was not able to figure out how to switch to manual focus shooting videos, but overall they are pretty good, 4/5. Still images don't give you the option of a raw format, jpg only, so 14 MP is desirable with JPG compression.Overall, amazingly awesome all around still and video camera that I can carry in my pants pocket!

I have been a long-time Canon customer (30 years) and, over the years, have owned many of their products including (back in the film days) the top of the line F-1 and A-1. I purchased this camera, as a "pocket" camera, about a year ago to replace a Canon Digital ELPH SD 500. That was a mistake. I have found that the images produced by this camera are substandard, dark and flat causing me to edit and brighten each and every picture through iphoto before I add them to our digital albums. Further, and perhaps the most frustrating problem, is the verrrrry slow autofocus which causes me to miss many photo opportunities. I have now gone back to using my Canon ELPH as a pocket camera because it is much smaller and therefore more convenient to carry and the images and autofocus are no worse than the SX210is. Irrespective of my 30 years of brand loyalty, I would give this one a pass.

This camera came with a warning that colors might not be true. They were correct. I cannot get any true color of nature. I am going back to my 10 year old Kodak.

even though the product has high megapixels, the digital picture quality is not as great as my old olympus camera which only had 5 megapixels. very disappointed as generally cannons are known for its quality.

I bought this camera to take with me to China. I dropped it at the Great Wall and I was so sure it was toast but it lived! It is all banged up and has had many falls into pavement and it is still functioning. Family, friends, and co-workers are so impressed with my beat up camera they all own one too. Battery lasts a long time but if you are constantly turning it off and on it wears faster. Video and sound are good. Recording reduces power and causes the camera to over heat if you film over five minutes.My only complaint is I bought a 16G card for it and the card freezes between 4G and 8G. I read that you should not use a card larger than 8G with this camera and they weren't lying. I suggest owning two cards in case the card freezes.

It is an extremely nice point and shoot camera which suffices all basic needs. Very happy with the pictures and value for money.

I have had Canon cameras for over 25 years. I bought this one after my A620 quit working, which was a fantastic point and shoot camera. I have had this camera for over a year. The pictures are either a hit or miss (totally out of focus even though you let the camera auto focus) and I find myself taking multiple pictures at one time hoping one turns out. It is very slow to respond and having strangers take pictures is totally hopeless. I do not like the quality of indoor photographs, outdoors are very nice. Children and pet setting is worthless, auto is much better. One positive is that I do like the big LED screen.

Decided to try this out as an upgrade to my older Casio fh-100. I was looking for some more advanced features. Firstly, the popup flash is cool, but extremely annoying. I know most smaller cameras with pop up flash have this issue, but its definitely a minus in any case. Well compared to my casio, this thing is freakn slow, it takes a couple seconds to focus and shoot, then a couple seconds between shots. That doesn't take into account the time to charge flash or save if necessary. As well this also didn't have the best photo quality, comparing photos of the same thing i actually prefered my older, cheaper casio. The one thing i did really like were the functions of the camera, the scroll wheel on the back worked great to select things, the effects on the camera were great, and the manual settings worked well. Overall package i was disappointed and returned it, if you are looking for something thats a bit speedier definitely stay away.

Item received before expected. Item was as expected in Used conditions, but it was hardly Used. I would say box was opened and closed and then, they sold it. I am very happy with this camera, very nice and clear shots. There is only on minor detail. Whenever I am shooting a video the lens tends to go Off focus a lot. So expect a movie with clear and blurry parts.

I have owned nothing but Canon digital cameras since the 1MP days... All of them have been great. Except this one. I remember how much I loved the A95 that I had right before this...The performance is awful. Very slow. Slow focus. Slow shutter. Slow!The quality of the photos are very inconsistent. Yellow tinges. Flash too powerful. Flash too weak...The only good things I can say about it is the size is great and it looks cool.Overall, a major disappointment...

I bought this camera used and it seems to work great. The camera is very small and can easily fit in my bag. The flash is kind of in a strange place.

I bought this Canon in the fall of 2010 to replace my beloved Canon S90 that had suffered some water damage after I fell into a rushing creek during a backpacking adventure along the John Muir Trail. Although this camera is no S90, it has a few outstanding qualities of its own unlike the S90.I have several small Canon point and shoots and this one exceeds all the others when it comes to macro shots. It consistently gets the closest, best-focused shots when compared to the S90. Although the flash sometimes wants to activate, it can eventually focus on demand.I have also taken excellent shots of the moon during several full moon rises.Two things that weigh against the camera are its slow shutter release and the added weight. This weighs almost twice as much as my S90. And the shutter release and auto focus can take a few seconds to activate, which can create blurry photographs or badly-composed shots of running pets or children.Image quality is excellent though. So if you are looking for an excellent macro camera, a decent video recorder and shots of and low-light landscapes or portraits, this is an excellent camera despite the incremental price increase of almost a hundred bucks since I bought this camera. I love this camera! This is the 5th Canon I have purchased from Amazon, and each one has been better than the last. I was looking for a camera with these attributes: - small enough to fit in my leather case to wear on my belt - capable of quality photos in low light - longer distance flash - easy video control...the instant button is very handy. - greater zoom distance...amazing for such a small camera!This camera fulfills all my requirements. I just came back from a vacation in Michigan, and the photos I took are absolutely gorgeous. I found I could leave the camera set on "Auto" almost all of the time. The only time I found myself switching to "Manual" was when I wanted to force the flash. Otherwise, "Auto" works great.My only negative comment concerns the placement of the pop-up flash. Since I (and most people) hold a camera in two hands, I found my left index finger tends to cover the flash, so it doesn't pop up when I turn the camera on. However, I've learned to adjust, and am very pleased with everything else.

I've bought this camera to take to my daughter's pageant. My old camera had a terrible zoom (3x) and it didn't take clear videos because the pixels were too low (4 megapixels). This camera has a 14x zoom that I absolutely love and the pixels (14.1 megapixels) look great on my 47" HD LCD TV. It is also a great camera for someone who doesn't know a lot about cameras because it has a feature that lets you point and shoot where the camera will make all the adjustments that you need. It actually has two options for this EASY and AUTO. You can choose which one works best for you. I personally have used both depending on whether I'm inside or outside. I have recommended this camera to two people already and they told me that they were going to look into it. Also, when I went to purchase this camera at a local store like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy, in two different states, they either didn't carry the camera or they were out of stock. I found it a challenge then and had to have the camera, because I figured it must be a great camera and it is!

I can't believe this picture quality this little guy puts out. I took in on a road trip recently, and logged in over 1000 photos. After weeding out some, the remaining pics I had were excellent, and all worthy of printing out. Some people have told me that there are a few Nat Geo worthy pics in there, which is always a compliment.Zoom is also fantastic. I will post up some pictures from Glacier Nat. Park showing the zoom quality soon. The size is also a great perk. It fits in a back jean pocket perfectly with no discomfort. Get this camera.

Wonderful research and review!Secondly, I realize it is only the first of October but this camera is the best Christmas present from my husband. It was time for a serious upgrade (camera, not husband)and I didn't want to make a serious mistake as this is for the long haul (camera and husband). I have used a Canon Powershot point and shoot for several years, in fact, technology had left me in the dust. I definitely did not want a SLR, I wanted something that I could use at a moment's notice. I want pictures of my husband, family and friends, my cats, my garden when the hydragenas and roses are in full bloom. I am not doing a magazine layout for Vogue. This camera description was just perfect for my list of wants and needs. Having used friends' Elphs I was not impressed with the tiny bits as they were just too awkward for my mature fingers. I verified this was not a problem after I did a test run in a camera store. I almost fainted at the camera store price as it was MUCH higher than Amazon. The next day I had a message from my Amazon Cart informing me there was a fifty doller drop on the Amazon camera price. It was kismet!Thirdly, one of the best features about Canon is that you can use their cameras right out of the box, which I did with this one. Ease of use, set on Automatic, zoom in or out, click and download. I have used only a few features on this camera and find the picture quality AMAZING! Amazing ZOOM feature! I waited for the right one to come along and I am not sorry to have done so (husband and camera).
