Upgraded from Canon A70 and have no complaints. Has lots of picture taking modes such as kids, snow, fireworks etc....Love the big, moveable LCD screen. Even takes great movies. Love my Canon A630!!

This is a great product from the size of the screen to the loaded features. There is a huge LCD display, 10 sec. delay feature, and a short reset time between shots. I previously had a Powershot A520 and the 540 is SO MUCH BETTER!

Before I bought my camera, I downloaded the manual from the Canon web site.

The 7.1-mega pixels allow me to take pictures of pages from books and magazines at the local library. It also allow me to zoom and crop pictures at the local drug store.

The flip able LCD screen is useful to take pictures at odd angles. I needed to take pictures of my water pump in the engine compartment of my car.

The focusing square stays in the middle when the camera is in "P" mode. When I'm taking a picture of an hard to focus scene, I "auto focus" the camera by pressing the shutter half way. Keeping the shutter half way, I frame the picture. I take the picture by pressing the shutter fully.

My start-up picture has my name in it. Every time you turn the camera on, it will flash my name.

The movie mode allows me to show my boss..... my stuff works.

I don't like the naming convention Canon uses to store its files.

This camera is the best purchase I ever made on Amazon! For the price, you get 7.1 MP which is unbelievable. It is user friendly....You cannot take a bad picture with it. I continue to be amazed at the quality of the shots and the ease of use. I bought it sight unseen....I had never even held one in my hands until it was delivered, and I could not be happier. Would definitely recommend to the average consumer who wants a great camera at a great price.

Best digital camera I've found for the money. Easy for first time users but, high enough quality for some commercial use. As a graphic designer, I use it to create images to help show concepts and to plan photo shoots for my professional photographers.

Camera is very capable; works very well. Camera has many 'manual mode' adjustments for perfectionists. Recommend purchasing 512MB or larger memory card and AC adapter/charger with at least two rechargeable AA batteries for use with printer/computer.

With so many options out there this is a great choice for the average consumer. All the extras and easy to use. This is only my second digital camera and I love it. Until now I always reverted back to my 35MM. Only complaint is the inability to turn off the flash for night shots. Maybe I missed that in the advanced manual. Very happy overall!

We bought this camera for Christmas, and have been using it pretty steadily since then, mostly for indoor shots and short videos. So far, we are very happy with the quality of the pictures, and the videos are excellent because this camera can give you such high resolution. Overall, I think this is a great camera, and I definitely recommend it.

The battery seems to last quite a while as well, which was a big concern for us, since some of the older digital cameras were really hard on batteries.

Another thing I REALLY like about this camera is the size of the viewing screen. It's larger than older cameras, and it really makes a difference. You can set the level of light in it, or turn it off completely, which is really convenient sometimes.

There are a few fun features. For instance, our camera barks when we take a picture. Useless overall, but cute.

Here are the few problems I have:

There are so many features it takes time to figure out what you want. This is compounded by a user-unfriendly manual.

We have a 1-gigabyte memory card in it, which is great if you're using it for many videos. It does seem to affect the response time after a photo is taken though.

I have a hard time not getting red-eye. I've tried many indoor settings, but still seem to get it on some photos.

The camera is the perfect solution for someone who does not want exchangable lensesand some items for more professional results. Combined with a direct photo printer it is easy and fun with plenty of photo options on the dial.

My only problem is that I did not receive with the camera the software to alllow me to download to the computer from the from the Memory chip itself. Is there any way to get this software?

Pretty decent digital camera. It is not a professional grade one but good enough for vacation and family get together pics.

Powershot is a very good and handy digital camera, which I liked very much. It allows to take very good pictures, to store them on two different memory cards and the price is also very good. Overall, I feel confident to recommend it.

Does everything I need it to and simple to use! Top notch picture quality in the auto mode for quick pics. Goes everywhere with me from mountain biking to snowshoeing, skiing to hiking! Have to carry extra batteries though! They go quick!

This is a great camera, I bought it for my sister and she absolutely loves it! Easy to use features, and the LCD display is great. It doesn't drain batteries like most other digital cameras, and the picture quality is awesome. Definately a great buy for the money!!

THIS IS A GREAT CAMERA , I USE IT AT LEAST TWICE A DAY AND TAKE 20 TO 30 DETAILED PICTURES EACH SESSION FOR MY BUSINESS AND IT ALWAYS DOES IT'S JOB PERFECTLY. VERY EASY TO USE AND VERY DURIBLE !!

I thought this Canon deserved more than an average of 3.5 stars, so I'm adding my comments.

I bought the A530 for my daughter when it became available on Amazon. She had taken photos, with her three-year-old Sony 5MP, of her roses in macro mode. Most of the photos were out of focus. The Sony just seemed to have trouble focusing on the right subject in macro mode. I have found that Canon cameras take excellent photos, especially in macro mode, and the A530 has not disappointed. She (and I) have taken many sharply focused photos of flowers, up close.

LIKES: Very good quality, features, and price. Sharp and colorful photos. Easy to use, small and lightweight. Improved over the A520 with 5MP instead of 4MP and MUCH faster performance.

DISLIKES: Canon's decrease of LCD pixel resolution per inch on the lastest models - A430, A530, A540. A disappointment, but only a small annoyance.

ADDED NOTE: Daylight photos are always better over indoor flash shots, whenever possible, with any camera.

Great camera for those who are looking for simple, reliable and cost effective camera. The pictures quality is great. It is required to buy extra memory since the original memory is only enough for ~10 pictures.

I have a 10 month old and wanted an inexpensive camera that would hold me over until I could get an D-SLR camera. The lag when indoors between when the button is pressed and the time the picture is way way way too long. This is reduced outdoors, making it bearable. Unfortunately, my 10 month old isn't walking yet so we still spend quite a bit of time indoors. Also, time between pictures indoors is around 6 seconds, this is unacceptable.

This is a great camera for the casual point-and-shooters ... but it has room to grow for those who increase in skill. It has enough manual control that the more experienced photographers will be satisfied, especially since you can't fit a D-SLR in your pocket ;-)

Despite it's size, this camera has lots of good stuff, such as 7.1MP, shutter and aperture control, 4x zoom, flash intensity adjustments ... but one of my favorite features of this camera is the vari-angle LCD. This allows me to compose the shot with the camera above my head or below my waist. Plus, when I flip the screen towards my favorite subjects (my 2 toddlers), it makes them smile or laugh because they love seeing themselves in the LCD. This makes it a lot easier for me to capture their happy faces. So parents, I suggest looking for this feature in any camera you are considering.
