I'm replacing an HP PhotoSmart C4240 printer/scanner that I've had for years and love--and this printer does everything that one does and much more for about the same price I paid for the old one! It's much larger than the HP, but the top-loading copy/scanner allows me to stick this printer on a shelf without having to leave too much head room.First off, the documentation sucks. Unlike most manuals, which separate instructions by language, the Getting Started guide puts English and Spanish instructions together on each page, which makes navigation more cumbersome (and page-turning) than necessary. To add insult to injury, Canon forgoes printed documentation for everything but installation and troubleshooting and instead installs that on the computer. If you like electronic documentation, this is fine. If you want a quick reference you can pull off a shelf or, worse, you don't have a Mac or Windows computer, this leaves you without documentation.Installation isn't too bad, but setting up wireless printing requires connecting the printer to a Windows or Mac computer and running the installation software. Linux users are simply out of luck here and will have to use a supported computer to get wireless printing up and running. The print drivers are available online, though, and I was able to get my Linux computer connected and printing fairly painlessly.Wireless printing is awesome! I live in New York City, which means I have roommates, and it's nice to let everyone on my network have access to the printer without having to plug directly into the printer. I also like having the ability to have other non-computer devices, such as mobile phones and tablets, print directly to the printer.What I really love about this printer, though, is the multi-document scanner. I can drop a stack of up to 30 pages into the document feeder, plug a thumb drive into the USB port on the front of the printer, start scanning and come back when it's done. My initial speed test resulted in about 5 pages per minute and that went into a PDF file on the thumb drive. Considering that my last printer required me to scan one page at a time (remove page, put another on the scanner bed), anything automated is faster and having it default to a PDF file makes this printer a godsend!I can't vouch for the fax capabilities simply because I rarely use faxes and when I do, I use Internet faxing services.

This is my 3rd Canon digital camera in 9 years. Is that a knock or endorsement that I keep coming back to the same well?ENDORSEMENT!!!!We have kids and an active lifestyle. It's amazing that our cameras last as long as they do!When you want a dead simple, straight forward, pocket sized point & shoot, look no further. Each new model brings better resolution, battery life, and speed.My wife and I both have iPhones with decent cameras but they don't compare to a dedicated 12+MP camera.

I am not going to dwell on the all the good points- that has pretty much been well said before. I will emphasize that I have been buying Canon happy snaps (and Nikon SLRs) forever. Without a doubt, this is the best compact camera out there. My pics are super sharp, well exposed and the manual ring surrounding the lens is great for on the fly adjustments. My only complaint really annoys me, though- the pop up flash. On my previous Canon happy snaps, the flash was built into the body and was stationary. So you got a little red eye now and then, so what? Easily fixed in iPhoto or whatever. On this camera, the flash pops up by itself, automatically, unless the camera flash is set to 'No flash'. My problem is that I hold the camera with two hands, and my index finger on the left hand always rests on top of the flash. I am trying to train myself not to turn on the camera with my finger resting where it normally does. I fear that the little motor and gears that pops the flash up are doomed to break, rendering the flash useless. Aggh. Why didn't they put the flash where it used to be!

I have a heavy camera that I don't take out to family gatherings because I don't want to look like the official photographer, but this camera does all that a regular DSLR camera can (well almost all) and its small and compact. The only issue is the battery runs out fast, so you will either need to carry two and/or carry your charger with you. Also, you have to remember that the flash comes out on the left side, but after you get used to it, it all works out fine.

My camera is useless after the dreaded lens error. Canon offers to fix the defective camera but makes you pay for shipping. They should replace NOT repair since the lens is defective. Wish I would have known about this long standing problem.

Compact, powerful and gives a good shot every time. I had the S95 and upgraded to the S100 -- not much difference in the menu options, but still...the camera definitely does not disappoint. Quick shutter speeds, great videos, pics are crisp. Takes a little bit to walk through the menu to understand all the available settings, but that's a one-time learning curve.

A nice point and shoot pocket size camera.I was looking for something smaller than my DSLRs to carry around. The S100 is a good blend of lens range (24-120mm) and speed. The image quality is better than most all other pocket cameras. I thought the silver color had a less "Pro" look to it and would reflect more heat than the black version. When it was a Black Friday Special I jumped on it.

This has the same sensor and full manual features of the larger G line. It can save photos in RAW format and balance a fill flash. One of my favorite features is the timer more that lets you shoot 10 shots at a time, so you don't have to keep running back and forth to the camera. All this in a pocket sized camera, makes it amazing.

Good communication from seller, good prices, prompt shipping, quality product. Perfect little compact camera for my family. The Canon EOS that we have is a better camera, however if it doesn't fit in your pocket, there will be no pictures when you really want them. Good low light capability and picture clarity. Buy a second battery for trips- will use it up quickly.

I had the S90 (now given away) and S95 (held tightly by my wife still). I got the S100 for myself, as I was looking forward to the wider angle and reputedly cleaner high ISO (low light) performance.I think the image quality holds up well, which is saying a bit, since the new lens is much wider (24 vs 28) and a bit longer (120 vs 105). I was also worried about going to a CMOS sensor, but the image quality is actually on par with the previous CCD. When you go to higher ISO (1600 and above), the image quality is much nicer, in my opinion. I do not use video much at all, so I cannot comment on video quality other than to repeat the newly improved specs.There are a few usability changes that I have to get used to. They changed the button layout, and as a non-video user, the dedicated movie button is a waste for me. I preferred not having to hit the up button before using the expousure compensations, which you now need to do. The battery life seems a bit shorter (some report it getting better as the battery chip learns it capacity), and I wish it used the same battery as the S95. Canon also oddly chose to limit ISO to 80 when setting shutter speed over 1 second (it forces it down from any higher ISO). Granted most people do not do that, but is is an odd limitation to implement.I saw in some reviews here people had issues with white balance. I have not had any, and it does not seem to be a common complaint on DPReview, where the early adopters hang out. Some reported problems with close-up focusing, but as many times as I have seen this, at least half look like inexperienced camera users or poorly arranged tests. I personally have not had the problem. If you go there, look for posts by the user "gail." She has used the camera extensively and also has a good website.Overall, I am happy with the purchase (two weeks ago), and will be holding onto the camera.

This is my 7th Canon camera. I have never had any serious problems with my cameras in the past, this is a first. I purchased this camera a month ago and the autofocus has never worked right from the very beginning. At first, I thought it was just me, adjusting to a new camera, surely I couldn't be having a problem with a Canon?! But, unfortunately I am. When I zoom, either manually with the ring or digitally, take the photo and retract the zoom, the autofocus no longer works. This is blatantly obvious, you look on the screen and the image is blurry. I have to turn it off and turn it back on to clear it. You can't very well be doing this after every photo you take. After reading on the web of similar problems that other people are having, I see this is a common problem with this model. I'm going to have to take the camera in for repair now and see what happens. I'm very, very disappointed in the camera. Especially at this price. My advice? Don't buy this camera.

This camera is really nice, and the low-light sensitivity is very good. Used it recently in Belize & Guatemala to take photos in dark forest and once I got the hang of adjusting the ISO level it worked very well.

At first, i was worried about the LENS ERROR thins, after i bought almost 2 months, its performance is very good. I feel its processing speed after i shot a picture is kinda of slowly after it fell down from my hand to ground accidentally. I do not know this is just a misfeeling or a really thing. anyone have this experience??

I own the Canon S95 and purchased this model for my mother. It has all the features of the S95 that I like (RAW format shooting, Usable Manual mode & dials that allow adjusting of ISO/F-Stop easily)The only con I have so far is battery life, the GPS feature seems to really eat away at the battery life so unless you're using it for hiking or geo-caching I'd leave it off as it significantly affects battery life.

This camera makes taking quality pictures easy. It is quick for a digital and the pictures are perfect almost every time and in every situation. It can take especially good pictures in low light situations without a flash. I don't need the custom options, but more professional photogs love those features, I'm sure. For $230, you cannot beat this camera. Even $250 would be a deal.

We use this at home. Have never had a problem printing or scanning. Not used for anything special. Printing coupons, coloring pages. Scanning documents for email. It's used moderately.

This slim camera takes great pictures specially in dark environments. the function of ring (around the lens) is another great feature. Generally, quality of images are great, however, I wish it had a super zoom lens.I highly recommend this product, if you don't have problem to pay more than $300.

It's nice and compact, it has a wide-angle zoom reaching out to mild tele, the lens is reasonably fast, it can record in raw and it is now quite reasonably priced. I wish it had a viewfinder like one of its predecessors had (S70?). While it was far from a great viewfinder, at least it allowed you to point the camera in bright sunlight. The screen on the S100 is not useable in bright sun.

This is fantastic little camera and honestly probably best in its category. I love how good it works in low light, but...1. the pop-up flash is a bit inconvenient for left handed person. I found myself constantly forgetting fingers on the flash2. GPS works so-so, you really need to keep the camera open for a while or keep the GPS ON all the time (which kills the battery) to get accurate position3. I really wish this camera would have WIFI or at least bluetooth capability, all the half-working patches like eyefi cards could be easily replaced by internal wifi4. it's 2012 and really don't get why canon still relies on 10 years old charging mechanism. Yes perhaps charging mat is a bit too much (thow it would be nice), why the mini-usb port in the camera cannot be used for charging and why I have to physically remove the battery every time I want to charge the camera is really a mystery. Yes replaceable battery is nice, that does not mean I should be forced to remove it every time I want to charge my camera

I loved everything about this camera until 9 months after buying it there was a lens malfunction. Now, it's on my dime to send it back to Canon for the fix and I'll be without a camera for weeks. This with a newborn. NOT happy.

good: picture quality for its size. compact. light. movie is awesome. some effects are fun. 240fps action movie.bad: too small to hold. shutter button is not at good location. short battery life, you must have a few spares for a day. relatively good but still difficult at dark light.overall, it is a very good camera for the size. some of my friends who have DSLRs were impressed well. maybe I would buy S110 if I could reset my purchase for better ISO range, but I am happy with this.

I have a long history of battles with printers that just don't work well. I have had a handful of HP's, and most recently a Dell, that I gave away or returned. Each time I was frustrated and confused. How hard is it to make a printer that, well, WORKS??After many years, I think my search is over. Although this model is not their top-of-the-line, I am very pleased with its overall performance, quality and value. The WiFi connection is easy to connect to and consistently works. The print quality is great, and it is the first printer that I have actually printed out 4x6 photos on that comes close to those you order from the store. (Get the MX882 for really outstanding color printing.) The fax has many great settings and features, especially their "phone priority" setting, which is nice for us, since we share a phone and fax line at our home.I haven't owned the printer long enough to testify to the ink cartridge's life span, but I was very impressed when I researched replacement cartridges. They are half the cost of the Dell and HP cartridges, and I found out that my local large warehouse retailer refills Canon cartridges for a fraction of the price!!Considering that this little machine has all of the features we were looking for (printer, copier, fax and scan), plus functions reliably and has replacement ink at reasonable rates, I give this printer a five stars in value and 4.5 stars in print quality. Bump up to the high-end model if you're looking for really crisp colors.

Have had constant problems with this machine. It was very difficult to set up wirelessly. It is supposed to be compatible with my Mac, and technically it is--but they certainly do not make it an easy, seamless process. The main cons of the product are: 1) LED display very difficult to read, 2) Instructions are complicated, especially if you have a Mac (a time-consuming feat to set up wirelessly), 3) the software does not easily integrate with iPhoto, 4) in order to do many operations, you must sit by the machine, and manually punch in "ok" to the various steps (vs. giving 1 or 2 commands and the rest being automatic). I lost my wireless connection with the printer when I tried to scan a photo, and have not been able to get it reconnected. When I went for support on the Canon website, I pulled up an article on the topic, but, much to my dismay, there was a topic heading, but NO content under the heading. Not one word. This product is completely useless to me. It has wasted countless hours of my time, and, after owning it for just a couple months, I plan to cut my losses and get rid of it. I will buy a new printer and donate this one to a charity that uses PC's, or give it to someone who can figure it out. Very Disappointed.PSAny recommendations on a wireless multifunction machine (with fax) that will make my life easier? Happy to pay more, if setting it up and operating it is seamless.

just wanted to give my opinion to people out there, as the internet is a great search engine. so i wanted to write back and help toothe camera is great for its two functions of taking pictures and recording videos, its dual functions are awesome and less to carry. I love the pictures in the manual setting, auto is a bit weird.it takes better pictures without flash, when then the camera does use flash, the pictures look a bit yellowish. Maybe its me, but this is how it looks.I am happy with the camera even though its on the pricier side. As for the quality of the camera.Battery life is horrible when in video mode, with a full charge battery, you will be lucky if you get 30 mins. Stock up on amazon, I have 3 batteries to use.I purchase this in 12/10/11, and today the camera froze up and the lens would not retract and also the control ring failed to operate.I sent it back to Canon and they will fix as it under warranty for 1yr. I suggest everyone make sure this does not happen to you.I believe this is a mfg defect.Good luck

I've only had the camera a short time and taken a limited number of pictures but I'm very satisfied thus far. The camera has a solid feel to it. I like the color, it isn't the standard silver seen with so many other cameras. It is more of a titanium color. The quality and clarity of the LCD view screen is amazing and very enjoyable. I've already taken some low light pictures without flash and was very surprised by the clarity and sharpness. I'm very pleased with my purchase to date.

I've owned a string of Kodak point and shoot digital cameras over the last 12 or so years. Stepped up to a Canon T2i last year and loved it, bought a few lense for it. The last Kodak compact I bought about two years ago was a functional nightmare so I decided to 'upgrade' to this.Indoor light has to be perfect in point and shoot mode or you are going to end up with some really poor photos. I can't believe how poor of an indoor photo it takes for $400+. Colors are washed out and completely un natural or the flash just overwhelms. I find myself using the camera on my HTC android phone for indoor shots if I have a choice between the two, sad. I know a little about manual settings from having used my T2i for a year but I can not find a setting that will take a decent photo with this camera indoors.GPS is nice but if you leave GPS mode on, even with the camera off the battery will be dead in about two hours.After owning this camera for four months would I buy it if I had to do it all over again - no way. This is my first negative review on Amazon since joining in 15 plus years, not that this has anything to do with Amazon. I'm writing it as a warning, I am really disappointed in this camera. I will probably go back to using my 5 year old metal body Kodak compact point and shoot with Carl Zeiss lense.

The vaunted S1000 is JUNK and without support. I find shortly after the review period that it is no longer possible to take pictures off of the camera onto a computer. Amazon is no help, no matter how much the camera costs. They do not seem to have any way to track problems, to influence Canon to fix anything, nor any knowledge about the product that might be useful if something goes wrong. Go to B&H. If I use manual methods, I can see the pictures, on thew camera through the computer, but they are not saved and can't be used by the Canon, Corel or Photoshop software. All of this worked for 30 days and then quit! I tried to get Canon support for the problem and was directed to a third party that cost $16.00 and blamed the memory card. This is the s100, canon's best best point and shoot camera. A lot of sources claim it is a good camera -- Paid off??? DO NOT BUY THIS EXPENSIVE PILE of JUNK. Stay away from Canon unless you have your own support staff!

I was very excited to get the Canon S100, having read the positive reviews. It shot good pictures and life was grand. Then out of the blue, on my son's 11th birthday, 3 months after getting the camera, I noticed the automatic shutter cover was not opening fully. Rebooting, removing the battery did not help. The only way it will open all the way is for me to manually slide it out, which I don't want to do since it will likely damage the lens. The camera was always carried in a protective case I invested in and treated with respect so I have no idea what caused this malfunctionI can't return the camera because it's past the return window. Right now it's a $400 paper weight. .Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Works just as promised. All the camera's functions are accessible. Pretty amazing actually. I definitely recommend it for anyone who would like to take underwater photos. This case is only for the PowerShot S100 of course. It won't work with any other camera.

This was the first I tried before really reading up about sensor size since I was looking for something good in low light yet compact. I had been a long time fan of Canon, last two were Canon. The sensor size here is average for point and shoots so is not great in low light, got mostly blurry shots. I ultimately went with the Sony RX100 which has a bigger sensor but is in a higher price range.

This camera takes excellent pics and the HD movies are outstanding even indoors under ambient light. While this camera is last year's model it is still a bargain at $229 (was $299 a few weeks ago). Luckily I purchased as a Daily Deal at $209 in November, which was a steal. This camera is perfect for the advanced amateur, or for someone who just wants a quality point-and-shoot.

This camera is amazing. The quality of pictures if better than any other digital camera I have owned. Also, it does HDR images so I was able to take amazing pictures of fireworks which I have not been able to take with my SLR. Also, the quality of videos is top notch.

In the first few months of using it we have had occasional lens errors which were corrected by removing the battery. However, after around 7-8 months of using it, the lens got stocked open and the camera powers off on startup. We have sent the camera for repairs to Cannon and they have fixed the issues. Let’s hope it will last. Also, the GPS works very poorly and this was one of the main reasons for upgrading from the S95 to S100. Overall, it is a great product.

I used to shoot Nikon professional equipment for years and have always known the Canon P&S cameras were really good. After some convincing from a friend who still shoots professionally, I purchased the S100. I won't go into much detail because there are already a number of good reviews, but this camera is a rock star!!You won't be disappointed. The color and clarity of the images is better than any I have personally seen from a P&S.Manual control is great for those who want to manipulate exposure, shutter speed and light settings. This is also great for those who'd want to experiment changing the look of photos.The battery lasts a surprisingly long time.It's on in seconds!The video record button is very handy when you're trying to capture special moments. I've used it several times to film my 16-month old daughter when she is doing something new. (You don't have to switch modes to shoot video. Just push the red record button on the back of the camera and you're shooting video.)It may seem a little spendy to some, but this is a point & shoot towards the top end of the market. Many Canon pros store this exact camera in their pockets when lugging gear around isn't necessary.

Just got this camera on 11/28/12, amazon had a great price so I took a chance.My camera serial number is "47xxx..." so I hope I do not get a lens error; so far great camera and I love it. pictures are sharp and lots of options to play with, great shots in low light and not a fast auto focus but it's fine for me.I think placement of the flash is awkward, if you use P mod and choose auto flash, flash alwasy stays up so kind of annoying, othere than that I love it.

This is a great looking case, made of nice leather. It fits the camera well and is easy to carry around the neck. It has a very nostalgic look and protects the camera well. It does not however provide for any extra storage for an extra SD card or cleaning cloth. all functions of the camera are easily accessible. the case does have to be removed to get to the SD card or battery, or to connect the cords, but those are less frequent operations. Overall. I am very pleased with this purchase.

My son has been asking for a decent camera for a long time, and this one was our selection for a Christmas gift. He loves it. It takes quality digital photos and having that 5X wide Angle lens makes it particularly good for scenic shots. I would definitely recommend this camera. The price was also right.
