I don't really know why, but this drive is exceptionally slow in my experience. My USB 2 iPod and Firewire 400 drives leave it in the dust.I don't know if it's the enclosure, or the drive inside, which is at fault. I'm tempted to try the disk in another enclosure.Another complaint, though less important, is that it's rather noisy when it spins down.

Worked great until the one year mark and died a hard death. Inside is a Western Digital WD1600JS SATA HD (Caviar SE), this drive has a high failure rate so you might want to spend the extra money and get a Seagate.

The hard disk is pretty nice build and great designed. The absence of lighting colors is great. It could be a little less noisy but it's allmost ok.

I bought this drive and used it for about two weeks before it crashed and I lost all of my work. I have a few friends that have owned WT products before and they also have had problems with them. I cannot reccomend this drive

At last, someone has finally created a device that is literally plug and play. There is no need to install any sofware for it. Plug in the USB, plug in the power, and you're ready to transfer files. The included Google software and Western Digital's back-it-up program is also optional. The box doesn't even have a cd for installation. You just plug it into the computer and you'll find the software on the drive itself.It's a beautiful little black box with two blue led rings on the front. The outer ring consists of four LED's that flash in a clockwise direction as you read or write data to the drive. The inner ring consists of six LED's that display how much of the drive is being used up. The back contains one usb port and two firewire ports. The top and bottom have two black rubber borders that grip any surface pretty well and they contain exhaust vents which were made with looks in mind.Finally, when Western Digital says quiet operation, they MEAN quiet operation. This hard drive makes absolutely no noise at all. Not on spin-up, nor while you're using it. The last great feature is that it detects when your computer is on or off so it will turn itself on and off as well.Great product!

This 250GB external hard disk is pretty sleak, manageable, maintainable and very easy to use.All in all a decent product at a decent price, especially now that the price has substantially dropped.

I bought this external drive for my G4 iMac when video editing bogged down its memory. The My Book is very easy to set up and use. I plan to get another for my office.

After getting a video ipod last year for christmas, I quickly ran out of space on my personal computer to keep all my music, videos & photos. I bought this external hard drive about 2 months ago and I am so glad I did. I now have all the space I will EVER need! If you don't have one, get one! If you're thinking about it - stop thinking and BUY IT! Seriously!

The My Book is great. My hard drive is really small, so I use it for housing my pictures, music, and movies. My only complaint is that occasionally it'll have a very high-pitched whine sound coming from it. It might just be that my ears are sensitive though (I can hear when a tv is on).

If you like having the wool pulled over your eyes, don't pay attention to the big sticker on the packaging that says '320 GB'. It's not. It's 298 GB. After looking around the WD site a little, their footnote in listing it's supposed 320 GB capacity is this:"This capacity is reported using the decimal numbering system (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes and 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes). Both Windows and Macintosh operating systems use the binary numbering system, which results in a lower reported capacity".In my eyes this is just short of false advertising. I'll take mine back. Not sure how the other hard drive manufacturers do it but I feel swindled. Other than that, it's a nice little box, very quiet and attractive. But not 320 GB.

I bought this drive about a month ago and it works great. It was easy to set up and it works very much like a large USB flash drive. I mainly use the My Book for backup purposes and leave it turned off a majority of the time.

I've used this drive for about two months now. I would consider used moderately as I don't leave my computer running 24/7. I'm not sure if that qualifies for any type of stress testing, but in my personal experience, the drive has performed flawlessly.Highly recommended for the price.

All I needed was a backup solution for my 10 gigs of data. This drive is exactly what I was looking for - it's fast, reliable and has a really great look to it. No software required, just plug it in and go ! It can't really get any easier and for $99 (especially if you have some online coupons handy) it's worth the small investment. Nobody ever thinks to back up - this makes it easy for everyone.

I purchased this external drive after my last external drive failed me wiping out my itunes library and most of my data. Now that drive is decorating my shelf with its dust, and this new spiffy drive is working like a charm. It really is plug and play. I loaded it, and it just worked... Awesome. The large capacity means I can get my iTunes library, my recorded shows and hard drive loaded on it with room to spare. Thanks my book.

While this drive ends up formatted at less than 320GB that's how hard drives work. But it's plenty big and at a great price.I plugged this baby into my intel Imac and it popped right up. It was formated FAT but a quick trip to disk utilities and it was reformated to Mac journaled. It's very silent, although I did give it only 4 stars becuase there is a bit more vibration from the drive than I expected.All in all a great product though.

This hard drive is superb, its extremely fast for an external, especially when I use the firewire connection. The reliability so far has been great and the actual HD design is flawless. Its compact but sturdy and also runs whisper silent. I will definitely buy another if need be.
