Великолепно
It's a hard drive. It holds things. Though not physical objects, i.e. don't try to use it as a coaster or a coffee table.Oh, and it looks like something out of Star Trek.

I bought 2 of these harddrives. and in 2 weeks one stopped working. I am very fustrated about this since i am an international buyer and its a hasle to sent it back to the US. Now i am worried that the other one will stop soon. Is something wrong with this product. I will never buy one more. Some of my friends wanted one ... i tell them dont buy it.

Once formated this product is doing exactly what I needed - a back up for my computer. Installation could not have been easier. Instructions for doing a computer back up were confusing to me, but I'm not a rocket scientist when it comes to computers. Re-formating the "My Book" solved the problem and I am now very pleased with it and would definitely recommend it.

I needed a large capacity external hard drive for work, and I did a fair amount of research of different products. Based on several other reviews, I chose this unit with some circumspection. This unit was hands-down the easiest pc product I've ever installed. Granted, I kept the unit formatted as fat32, but it may be more difficult if you choose to format it to NTFS. The unit is very quiet, pleasing to the eye, and built tough. File transfer and retrieval is quick. My setup is a laptop hooked up to a docking station, and this unit does something I wasn't expecting: It turns itself on during boot up, and turns off during shutdown. I thought it was a cool, anyway. In conclusion, if you need an external HD, you will be very pleased with this unit.

I have had this drive for 6+ months. I use it very often, for transferring 20+ gbs of photos. I have found it to be reliable, fast and convient. It of course, isn't a pocket drive, but it travels well.Other people on here has complained about speed, which makes me wonder if they are using USB 2.0... Of course it would be nice if it had fire wire, or if it were networkable for that matter. But then again, I can't argue with the value of this drive.I do however wish that this drive included software. It has no back up software, which was kind of a disappointment. It would come in handy for regular automated backups of works in progress and the like. After pluggin' in it acts just like a regular drive.Over all I am very satisfied with it though.

I needed storage, but not any real frills, so this was a great choice and delivered what I wanted at a reasonable price. The drive is quiet and reliable.

this is my first HDD ive ever bought. im glad i came on amazon and read all the user reviews and compared because i was thinking about getting a seagate one but they posed to have alot of problems.the thing that got me hoocked on this HDD was its plug and play feature. it trully is plug and play.i can honesly say that this is the best invesment ive ever made on a product due to what it does, and how many times its saved me.Im sad and happy to say that it was dropped for the first time by my friend off a computer desk 3 days ago, he tripped on the wire and it fell about 4-5 feet to the ground, and to my amazment it still works. unlike my MP3 player :(

Before Christmas I found this unit for just under a hundred dollars. I planned to use it to store backups for two of my laptops. Unhappily, the transfer rate was so slow (averaging about .50MB/sec - yes, that's "point five") that I found the MyBook not to be useful for this application. I tried the MyBook on several different machines and with more than one USB cable to rule the possibility that the drive was not really to blame. Unfortunately, my results were consistent. I recommend you avoid the MyBook if you plan to use it for high volume transfers.

The western digital is PLUG AND PLAY. because of this, we can transfer information from his mac to my microsoft.when the computer turns off or goes on sleep mode, the hard drive does the same - automatically. i have to do that manually on mine.inshort, it is a great item. it was a lot smaller and square than i thought it would be and it works great.

Couldn't be easier to install and use. Even my mother can use it.Plug and play just as advertised. No CDs or discs containing software to install. It's all embedded in the drive itself, meaning you can utilize My Book with multiple computers without needing to carry any installation software.I'll be buying more...Each My Book can sit in the bookshelf fulfilling my multiple data storage needs.Nice product

This hard drive works well, is relatively quiet and has a quick enough response to meet my needs. What else can I ask for. As far as reliability, I haven't had it long enough to properly comment.

BEWARE~~~~My Western Digital "My Book" started randomly shutting itself down. Emails to the Western Digital "technical support" have gone unanswered, and you can't call them to ask a question unless you sign up for the $14 a year "service plan".I'm switching to another brand hard drive. hopefully I can transfer all the information off this defective drive before it crashes for good.

My son's laptop was running out of space due to music, video's etc. He said he was going to have to buy one. However, he never shops around as he buys anything he THINKS is good. I read the reviews etc. and determined that this product was for him.Purchased for $100 at Best Buy on sale. Installation was simpler than simple. Plug the device into a USB2 port. Your computer will recognize as another drive.If you can use a toaster, you can use this! No noise, vibration or any other negative. Best value for the buck!

The My Book Essential is very easy to use. You just plug it in and off you go. That said, I did have problems with getting one of my older PCs (upgraded to XP Home)to recognize the drive. Western Digital tech support was pretty much useless regarding the issue. However, I found that inserting a flash drive at the same time resulted the My Bookfinally being recognized. It is quiet too.

This thing was almost TOO simple to set up. You just plug it in and it's all set. Some people will look for a CD or some other software and be frustrated, but you're assuming more complication than there is. The software is on the hard drive and it installs itself.I also reformatted the drive to the newer standard, and I lost some GB in the process, don't know why, but with my computer it took less than a minute to reformat and partition the drive. I put programs in one section and files in the other.The drive does turn off, or, as I think about it, go into sleep mode if you don't use it for a while. That means when you go to save something, you have to wait a couple of extra seconds for it to wake up. Once I understood this it didn't bother me.I have this on my shelf, and not only does it look cool, I can't hear it at all.You can't go wrong with this drive, especially for the price with all these rebates around.

I bought a Western Digital My Book...turned it on- it easily transferred all my pictures and music onto it. It didn't even take as long as other hard drives I've been used to, and I delete everything off my computer so I could make room for a big program I needed ton install.So the hard drive turns off after I'm done.Never to turn on again.Next day I plug it in to access those pictures and it won't turn on. I call technical support and even though they admit the product may have been faulty before I even used it, refused to help me out in recovery damages. I can take the hard drive back within 30 days though as covered by the warranty, but oops, I need the drive in order to get everything recovered! which will, of course, take more than 30 days.2 days, used once, completely broken. Bad customer service.

I would have never purchased this drive, but I found it through a really good deal. I have owned it for over a month and it has provided some really benefitial help to backup data and store and transfer mass amounts of data from one computer to another. I can easily transfer data from my desktop to my notebook without having to burn it to media or having to wait for the transfer to complete through a network. I love how it's 7200rpm but I gave it 3 stars because the first one I received was DOA. I swapped it out with no hassle and it works like a charm...but for how long?

This may not be helpful. But I love this thing. Im so glad I spent the money it really is quite and works everywhere and has its own power supply and doesnt look or feel cheap. Get it.its been 4 YEARS now and it still works. grandted i dont use it everyday and when i use it it isnt heavily but Its still holdin my data. I havent been able to keep any of theses external hard drives around long (iomega).. but this one...I will have to get another eternal WD again.

Just purchased this from Walmart. It was shrink wrapped, so I doubt it was a return. Opened the box to find that the packers put in the WRONG cord! It does not have a USB end and neither end fits into the hard drive . . . Taking this one back to the store and ordering a 500g seagate

Works well. No problems. Pretty quiet. Just had to reformat but it was pretty quick. Has security cable port so I can secure it to my desk. I wondered whether or not it had that feature and it does. No complaints.

I bought this drive about 6 months ago and filled it with 400GB of MP3 audio. It's been under heavy use and works like a champ. I was concerned that USB might be too slow (given no Firewire port) but it's worked just fine.I have a Seagate 200+ GB external HD and that thing is a dog. Always crashing and taking down Windows XP. But the WD My Book has given me no trouble whatsoever. So I'm going to get another one to replace that Seagate drive.Western Digital drive is compact, quiet, and runs cool. I bought a padded case at Eddie Bauer and occasionally carry it with me. No problems at all, whether at home or on the road.

This is an amazing hard drive. transfers data very fast, reliable.But I notices one issue, since the hard drive is in NTFS format, you cannot copy more than 4GB file to it. I had to split it and then join it.
