Have a Viewsonic VA1903wb and a VA1926w, both 1440x900 LCD monitors that have done very well for me. Sure, I'll try another Viewsonic, why not? Wanted a bigger resolution and greater color depth for image and video editing and was willing to pay a bit more for the dynamic color range. Arrived in perfect condition, installation was a breeze, but there was some hicups getting it displayed properly.RESOLUTION ISSUE:- Using HDMI with your computer? Resolution all messed up? Go to your monitor menu --> Input Select --> HDMI PC. Now when you go to your resolution settings on your computer, it will be the correct 1920x1080 PC.WHAT I LEARNED / TIPS:- VGA (D-sub) and HDMI outputs only. No DVI.- Power connector is crappy, kinda loose, and feels like it will break if you tilt it too much. Moving the monitor around will unplug the power. Once you have it where you want it though, it stays in okay. Just don't loosen the connection from too much wear and tear and you should be fine.- 27" looks nice versus the standard 24" out there. Doesn't seem pixelated at all, though you do want to sit about 2' back so that you can see everything on the screen at once. With the base, this means you'll want a desk that has a depth of at least 25" so you can push the screen back far enough.- LED is very bright. Turned the brightness down to 40%. Have not experienced the "buzzing" that others complained about.- The black border around the screen is a nice, reflective hard black plastic that looks good. However, it does have huge white font saying VIEWSONIC and HDMI BLAH BLAH. The latter being the much more obnoxious and unnecessary. This monitor shipped in a box with some nice, shiny black cardboard. Hmm... I cut up the flaps, ripped off the excess corrugated cardboard on the back so that it was nice and flat. Used permanent marker on the raw edges, rolled up small pieces of scotch tape, which I put on the back, then slapped my small cardboard rectangles over the logos. It blends in really nice. Tacky, but it works. With the screen so bright, you don't notice it and makes a more immersive experience.HDMI IS CRAP? VGA ONLY:I don't know if I got a faulty one or what but the HDMI for this monitor didn't work correctly for my computer. I researched online and read through tons of forum posts, etc, but could NOT find anyone who had a similar problem to mine. Blacks were not black, but more like a medium gray, like I was using a really cheap, crappy monitor. Used my video card to increase the contrast by 70% and increased color luminosity by 40% to try and salvage it, making a bigger difference between blacks and colors. It looked awful. I have a GeForce 560ti, which is a pretty high end gaming video card. Updated drivers for both video card and monitor from both manufacturers' websites, but no change. I tried to give it a chance for about two weeks, but the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I did NOT spend extra money for greater color depth just to get the exact opposite. Was ready to send it back with a nasty review, but decided to try VGA with a DVI adapter. I knew that if I called tech support that would be one of the first things they asked me. Everything looks fine now. WTF?I don't really care what the connection is as long as it works. But seriously? Relying on VGA and specifically NOT having DVI or good HDMI support in the coming years is like holding on to a floppy drive as long as possible and no CD/DVD/Blu-Ray support. What was Viewsonic thinking?! I assume that I just got a fluke monitor since I couldn't find anyone else who had the same problem, though, working in retail, I know first hand that "random flukes" don't really happen. If it does, it's usually a crazy huge number of them from a specific batch. Everything's fine and suddenly you get complaint after complaint about something... it's REALLY obvious. When that happens, we offer full refunds and take all the messed up ones off the shelf immediately. After that, a random one doesn't just slip through the cracks very often. At all.OVERALL:Still a little pissed about my whole unnecessary experience, BUT this monitor now seems to be working fine. It's big, it looks good, energy efficient, cheaper than some of the other options out there. Can't really tell much color difference between this and my two previous monitors for those who are curious. Would I recommend it to others? Sure, just dunno if you'll have as much of a headache getting it setup correctly as I did.

Having upgraded to a 24" VA2431 (non-LED) ViewSonic at the office, was enough to embark on a 27"-monitor-for-home-quest that would better its performance. After enough research, the final contenders were narrowed down to the Samsung S27A550H (LED) and the ViewSonic VX2753mh-LED; however the Samsung was nixed due to reported light bleed and stand issues, the lack of forward tilt, as well as enough users citing poorly rendered text. Not having seen it in the flesh, the latter may be attributed to among other things: user inability to select Samsung's PC Mode. Nonetheless after receiving the ViewSonic, I:A. Hooked it up to a desktop system (E4500 Core 2 CPU, XP Sp3, XFX ATI Radeon HD6670 1 GB DDR5 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card HD667XZAF3) via D-Sub.B. Installed the software.C. Used the interface buttons on the monitor to access the monitor's setup menu and changed it to "PC Mode".D. Accessed ATI's Catalyst Control Center to change the overscan to 0% - to better fill the viewable space.E. Went back into the monitor's setup menu and changed the: * Horizontal Size until the image went corner-to-corner. * Operation of the front bezel LED to turn off when the panel was in use (a nice feature). * Brightness and contrast settings to yield a more pleasing image. * LCD response time to Advanced.F. Switched to the included HDMI Cable. The results were well delineated text (without adjusting Microsoft's ClearType text), smooth motion, good contrast, very nice detail and an overall image that popped when source material was up to it (and I haven't adjusted Fine Tune and Sharpness yet)!Though I have the front bezel LED turned off when the panel is in use, it does glow a brighter than needed amber when the monitor is in standby. So with a reasonable disdain for needless light pollution from equipment in my environment, I used a Sharpie along the bottom surface of the LED fascia which dimmed output by roughly 50%. That notwithstanding, a design team more on the ball would have made it dimmable in user-selectable steps. It's interesting to note that when a Dell XPS15 Laptop was connected to the ViewSonic, the image was somewhat faded compared to the XPS' 1080P panel (or the XFX desktop video card for that matter); however a few adjustments took care of that in short order. Speaking of laptops and ViewSonic monitors: the home and the work laptops (both I7-2620M CPU Win7 64 machines from different manufacturers) use Intel's HD 3000 integrated video hardware and kick over to an Nvidia adapter when needed. On the work PC/VA2431 monitor combination I needed to make adjustments to ClearType text so characters appeared as anomaly free as possible. The VX2753' on the other hand needed no such adjustment from either the home desktop or laptop with text looking so far the best I've seen. Also noteworthy is when I tested for video judder at home (desktop) and work (laptop) using VLC Media Player and The Incredibles, the number of occurrences was unfortunately way too high; and with the VLC too unstable in both locations: I uninstalled it. In both locations I installed the Essentials Codec Pack (free @ mediacodec.org) and (with that came) Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Player; and though judder through MPC-HC or Windows Media Player (which couldn't play a movie until I installed the codec pack) was greatly reduced, it still happened on the home desktop. Using either player on the work PC after the ECP install and the problem was gone almost entirely. It wasn't until I switched to an old standby of PowerDVD 7 at home that the movie looked as good (lack of judder-wise) as the work PC running either MPC-HC or WMP. Though I haven't tried testing movies on the Dell Laptop, I realized the judder problems were not attributable to the monitor at a 60Hz refresh rate. What I'm getting at is this: any display problems attributed to a correctly operating VX2753' will boil down to: user error and/or upstream hardware/software issues - not the monitor.Dislikes1. If installed, the included software seems nothing more than wasted drive space as the "drivers" appear to be useless and a monitor configuration utility is not included.2. Because of the above, one relies on the menu buttons which are harder to press than needed and provides little in the way of tactile differentiation.3. Unfortunately those buttons are on the right side bezel, so those wanting two or more of the monitors side-by-side, will find menu access more inconvenient; therefore, they should've been placed on the bottom bezel.4. Certain features (Horizontal Size, Fine Tune, etc.) are only available when using a D-Sub Cable.5. From what little I saw of it, the dynamic contrast is detrimental...6. The front LED is a bit bright though it's easily fixed.7. The large and unnecessary HDMI lettering on the front bezel (fortunately becomes mostly innocuous when using the monitor).8. The speakers are somewhere just above two cans and a string.9. As a discerning product desi

I've been a longtime user of a Viewsonic CRT and had been very happy with it. After well over 8 years of use it began to flicker and lose power, so it was time for a new display. I hadn't looked at another Viewsonic display because I'd found better reviewed models elsewhere, but the price point and reviews on this one steered me towards this model. For the price, it does seem to be a bright and decent looking screen, well built and nicely styled. The rest of my observations are going to be based on my previous experience with a CRT monitor; if you're a long-time LCD user this stuff will probably seem irrelevant.First and foremost, blacks are just not very black. At anything less than straight-on viewing, everything takes on a purplish hue, which is annoying. Whites don't seem to be too awful uniform across the screen, but this may be related to the narrow viewing angle. Unlike a tube display, the image runs edge to edge, top to bottom, which is nice but it does tend to reflect back on the shiny black bezel. I've gotten used to it after just one day of use so it shouldn't be a huge issue.Second, the maximum refresh rate I've been able to obtain at 1920x1080 is just 60 Hz. Maybe this is important, maybe not. Coming from a CRT with a 75/80+Hz refresh rate I'm noticing that fast scrolling text tends to blur a lot more. Whether that's directly refresh-related or just typical of a budget LCD, I dunno.Unlike others, I've found the included stand to be very adequate and I see very little wobble when I bump the desk the monitor is on. It's also easier to tilt than I thought it would be, but not so loose as to be worrisome. The blue LED power light is very bright and because it's centrally located on the bottom bezel, it's shining right into the user's eyes. Since it's shaped like a power symbol, I spent the first minute out of the package pushing this symbol thinking it was the power button! It even gives like a soft-press plastic button, but it does nothing. I wish there was a way to dim or deactivate the light; unlike a CRT, this thing is never really "black" even when there's no signal at all. It glows and it's hard to miss the fact the monitor is on no matter what state it's in.Overall, it seems to be a solidly built monitor with reasonable performance for the price. If I can get even half the life out of this that I did my CRT Viewsonic, I'll be happy.

THE GOOD: This is a truly beautiful monitor. The crisp, clear HD picture is a magnificient upgrade from lower resolutions. The kickstand feature makes the monitor look good on the desk. Viewsonic customer service is wonderful, even at 10 pm. The man said someone was there to help 24 hours! Done with the good.THE BAD: 1. May not be easy to set up properly. I had to call Viewsonic and was walked through several issues. A. He helped me download an updated VIDEO driver for my laptop. B. He guided me in changing settings on my laptop, the Viewsonic on screen menu, and the sound software. 2. The tiny buttons on the right edge of the monitor are frustrating to use, to say the least. The menu only stays on for a few SECONDS and as you are reading your choices, blinks off before you can proceed. Push the button again and hope you can get to your choice. (5 times and I was finally successful). 3. The "buttons" are very tiny rectangular 1/8th inch wide slivers and they are very close together. I had to keep looking to be sure I was presing the correct one. People with larger hands may have a problem with these. (The engineers can't put larger buttons on the front, bottom of the monitor?) 4. The sound, to put it politely, was terrible. The Viewsonic rep had me adjust things for almost a half hour and we still couldn't get anything better than a dull, muted, tinny sound. By the way, I was playing a video with VLC, a great free media player. The sound was great on my laptop, without the new monitor. 5. A few minutes into the video, the monitor went blank and shut off, then the laptop went down. I turned the laptop on again and was greeted with a message that I needed to run a complete "trouble shooting" scan. I did, and then was told it couldn't be fixed and recommended I restore my computer to an earlier time. I did, and reset the monitor. Again, after a few minutes, total shutdown. The rep did not know where or why the conflict was occuring, but agreed there was something wrong with this particular monitor, and suggested I return it. So many people have connected this monitor successfully and are enjoying it. I understand there are occassional "bad apples" expecially with electronics. Don't let that stop you from getting this. It really is nice.

I'm not gonna make this a long review, but I don't know why my experience seems to be different than everyone else's, but the image quality of this monitor sucks in comparison to my HDTV for the PS3, for my PC/Mac it's pretty good. I have a custom PC desktop, a Macbook Pro with Retina display and a PS3.I bought this monitor to have a more portable display for when I join LAN parties (or similar) where ever I go. The primary use for the monitor would have been on a PS3, since PC gaming in my life seems to be taking a back seat. I'm one of the few PC/Mac gamers left out of all my friends. Most of my friends retired their PC gaming ways to just play console games. They deemed it more financially sound and less work. I see their logic, but for me old habits die hard I guess.Anyway the adjustment features are locked out when on HDMI and only on certain PS3 games it allows sharpness adjustments, I'm thinking when the PS3 changes the resolution to 720p. When turning on the dynamic contrast it seems to just darken the image rather than blast the image with contrast. It was quite disappointing and the image is brighter and more vibrant without dynamic contrast. The other lameness is the speakers as everyone mentioned, but the biggest disappointment for me was the image quality. Maybe the PS3 is just showing it's age more on the ViewSonic display, but it sure doesn't show it with the same amount of "eww" on my HDTV. I can't explain why it looks so poor, fuzzy/blurry, and uninspiring on the ViewSonic, but it does. Games look 'gridded' and it's just down right sad. Perhaps this monitor doesn't really like HDMI connections. What ever the reason whether it be user error, poor quality device, PS3 under performing this day and age, world hunger, chapped lips, etc. For me this monitor was a disappointment. In short, I instantly regret getting this monitor, however I would rather keep it than deal with the long Amazon return process and since this isn't going to be my primary display, I can settle and compromise with the 'flaws'. Hopefully the next Xbox or PS4 will have better support for monitors. If you want my recommendation or would like to heed my warning, I say look for a different monitor. I'm sure there's a better one on Amazon for around the same price.Shop around and make a better decision than I did.

This is only the third monitor I've owned, its predecessors a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900U and a Sony SDM-HS93. That said, I've used a variety of monitors at work and ViewSonic's models have always seemed to deliver good performance for a reasonable price. This particular model caught my eye for several reasons:* It's a 27-inch behemoth and a nice upgrade from the 24- and 22-inch monitors to which I'm accustomed to working on.* It has HDMI connectivity, which I prefer over DVI inputs since my laptop has an HDMI-out.While it's not the least expensive 27-inch monitor on the market, it's competitively priced considering some higher priced offerings from ViewSonic's competitors don't feature HDMI input.Upon removing the monitor from its box, I was pleasantly surprised by the monitor's overall aesthetics. I'm most concerned about the quality of the on-screen graphics. However, the glossy black finish surrounding the screen is very nice. (It would've been nice if ViewSonic had affixed the white "LED," "HDMI," and "1080p Full HD" labels using stickers so that they could be easily removed.) The power button and other settings controls are located on the right side of the monitor, tucked behind a small ledge that hides them from plain sight. The blue crescent power indicator is just that: an indicator that the monitor is on and not a button of some kind. It doesn't provide much illumination, which is a key consideration is you're planning to watch movies in a darkened room with this monitor.I can't share any horror stories: the monitor arrived in great condition in just five days. I cannot find any bad pixels, et cetera. Since I'm using HDMI, set up was simple: I just connected the supplied HDMI cable from the back of the monitor to my laptop and toggled projector mode in Windows Mobility Center. My only gripe is that I've found that I must use 1680 x 1050 instead of 1920 x 1080 resolution. (My laptop's display works fine in 1920 x 1080 resolution.) Online research suggests that my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card is the culprit and that updating its driver may resolve the issue. Unfortunately, I've had similar issues connecting my laptop via HDMI to my 32- and 55-inch flat-panel televisions and have tried updating said driver to no avail.Overall, I'm very happy with the ViewSonic VX2753MH-LED monitor.10/04/2011 UPDATE: I thoroughly researched and troubleshot my laptop's refusal to properly display 1920 x 1080 resolution It was, without question, my laptop's ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. After reconfiguring Catalyst Control Center (CCC), I was able to force my laptop to display 1920 x 1080 resolution on both the new ViewSonic VX2753MH-LED monitor and my 55-inch Sony BRAVIA KDL-55HX800. I didn't need to update any drivers after all; I simply had to patiently read a handful of Internet forums and tinker with CCC's settings. (One would think that AMD would find a way to improve CCC so that their customers don't have to resolve the the issue that I encountered.)I also wished to comment on the subject of the monitor's speakers. I agree: the built-in speakers are poor. I've listened to music from a variety of genres and played some video games and everything sounds like you're listening to the music/game audio with paper cones (think toilet paper tubes) taped over your ears. That said, I've not listened to music or played a computer game without a decent sound card and a good set of computer speakers in over ten years. I use a Yamaha YST-MS55D 2.1 system at home and a very inexpensive pair of Logitech X-140 speakers at work.My point is this: just as you wouldn't rely on the nicest television's built-in speakers for your home theater system, you shouldn't rely your monitor's built-in speakers for your computer media's audio.

Over the years, my monitors have steadily grown larger, and more advanced.I do my homework and carefully research stuff - which is where Amazon is incredibly helpful..(most of the time).I decided to graduate to a 27 inch LED, and after agonizing over MANY contenders, the VX2753 emerged the winner.Do yourself a favor and pay attention:I've already done the work for you.Stop squandering your time and benefit from my obsessive compulsive, anal retentive nature. You have arrived. This is the one.Okay:I admit to a significant level of brand snobbery in the past. For years, I subscribed to the belief if a monitor wasn't Samsung, HP, LG or Dell; it was probably crap. And you could forget about the likes of Viewsonic....I now stand before you full of contrition for such perfidy. After much research:Reading many articles;Picking the brains of electronics people;Speaking with a friend with 30 plus years in the IT field;Haunting the good folks at Tigerdirect.com(the only place other than Amazon I purchase computer and consumer electronic stuff)- I actually decided to pay closer attention to Viewsonic.I am now a big fan.Hey:If audio is a big deal to you, then go out and get yourself some decent speakers.Stop bitching about the monitor.Don't be a malcontent.OF COURSE you won't experience a premium audio experience with this thing.Give me a fargon break.I'm not going to bore you with a bunch of specifications.I will, however, tell you that this thing worked perfectly out of the box.No problemmo. The picture was, and remains brilliant. It's perfect. No pixel or bleeding issues or any of that nonsense.Quite frankly:I am thrilled about this purchase. This is a first class piece of equipment, and you can believe I'm not missing my old 22" Samsung Syncmaster.Be advised:If your computer lacks HDMI, you'll need an HDMI to DVI adapter cable.Be sure to order one with your monitor.DVI to HDMI Cable 6ft Male-MaleThis will ensure an easy hookup, and a seamless transition to anexciting new monitor.

The best $200.00 I have ever spent for my computer and my photography hobby. After many frustrating years using my 22" Acer monitor I am finally free of it. Now I have no trouble reading 6pt type in my email, faded looking characters on the net, my photographs are rendered without being stretched to accommodate the wide screen, and the colors match the colors printed with my Canon Pro 9000 Mark II printer. It's easy to make fine tuning adjustments for brightness and contrast, and the 1080 display is a WOW. It is truly a thing of beauty. As for the internal sound system: it is not a joke like one other reviewer wrote. It is quite good and it increases your choices. Buyers can use other sound systems they may already own and cut out the Viewsonic's. When needed then, they can use the Viewsonic internal sound as adequate for taking the computer system to use at a conference or whatever. The internal sound system will do just fine for this purpose, and there will be no need to burden oneself carrying external speakers.I 'm plugged into the monitor with the HGA cable (included) and that leaves me with an extra VGA cable (also included in the box). I suppose that means I could plug-in my old monitor and have both running at the same time, each on separate pages. I don't know about this for sure, and I don't expect to ever have a need for such a feature.I don't use the included stand. I prefer the fold-out back panel. It tilts the monitor backwards and sets it lower on my desk by a couple inches. This is just enough to let me look slightly downward at the screen. I have an old neck injury and this lowered screen position reduces my fatigue, pain, and stiffness when I spend too much time on the computer. With the Viewsonic using LED's instead of florescent background lighting, it uses something like 40% less electricity and should last much longer.UPDATE: 4 February 2012Working with the Viewsonic's internal sound system, I plugged my Creative INSPIRE 3030 speakers into the Viewsonic headphone jack. I placed the theme music from the movie Titanic into the CD/DVD player in the computer. Naturally the little internal Viewsonic speakers turned off and the Creative speakers took over. The RealOne Player started and I viewed a random showing of my own photographs as the music played. WOW! There is a clear improvement of the sound, not just with the monitor's built-in speakers, but also compared to the sound card that came with the Creative speakers. (This improvement is mentioned in the scant instructions that came with the monitor.) Besides improving the sound, the Creative sound card has been made obsolete and can be removed, thus freeing another slot for expansion inside my computer.I can't get over how great the resolution and colors are. The flesh tones. The detail in the shadows. The deep black where it is black in the scene photographed. Both image and sound are surprisingly superior to any computer system I have ever owned, and it's equal to the best I have ever seen.UPDATE 6 February 2012:The more I work with this monitor the the more I love it. It's like having a new computer.

Here's an honest look from a person who took a few months going through reviews on several websites to decide which monitor would be perfect for me! My gf purchased this for me for my birthday after I did the research, not necessarily a surprise to put it that way but an awesome gift non-the-less.No backlight bleedingNo dead pixelsSharp crystal clear textVibrant colorsAmazing on every game I've tested this on, (Black Ops, Rift, etc..)Couldn't be beat for the price with a 3 year manufacturer warranty and my gf also bundled it with a 3 year drops & spills warranty purchased through amazon as well, simply beats any other monitor on the market.Granted for its size it's only 1920x1080 but in this price range who can complain? There are several monitors on the market with better features that also cost 800-1,000+The top right corner has a peelable sticker, I didn't know if I could remove it or not prior to purchase but you can!! The only thing that is permanent on the bezel is the LED, HDMI, 1080P FULL HD and the viewsonic logo (3 birds) which aren't an eyesore in any way. There was a review I read where a guy used a marker to black out/dim the bottom right power light. lol, talk about impatient. You can simply go into the settings and turn that light off. This monitor does have auto-turn off so when you shut down your pc it will eventually turn off. It doesn't turn on when the pc goes back on, you do have to manually turn it on.I've only had this monitor for about a week and I wanted to give my personal thoughts about it's performance (which I haven't noticed any ghosting or any other sort of distortion) and it's amazing display. The only thing I don't like about it is the Dynamic contrast option. 30m:1 Dynamic contrast and It dims the display so dark it's sad to see when there are dark/light colors at once. If you have black and white colors displaying at once it turns the white into a grey color. But if it's fully black, or fully white it looks super good, not at the same time. It probably looks good while watching blu-ray movies, but I haven't tested that yet. I knew how Dynamic contrast works and didnt ding it down a star for it. 1200:1 static contrast ratio is amazingly enough on it's own that it makes this the perfect monitor for gaming, surfing the web, and watching movies. Colors I didn't even notice before pop out vibrantly and honestly this monitor should be worth a lot more for what you get. I give it 5 stars and personally its a 20 out of 10 in my book.Hope this helped a few people who are looking into purchasing an awesome monitor in this price range, Don't let the 1star reviews turn you away!

I was really worried about ordering this, but my old Dell postage-stamp-sized screen that came with my ANCIENT Dell hard drive was just not cutting it anymore. Since I didn't have the energy to order a whole new computer and try to transfer data in the middle of a college term, I decided just to replace the monitor. I worried it wouldn't work with my ancient version of Windows or that I wouldn't even have the right ports for it (obviously, I know nothing about computers). It arrived literally the day after I ordered it. I managed to get it out of the box, connect the monitor plug that comes with it to my old Dell, and VIOLA.. there was a beautiful, sharp and crisp View Sonic image already on the screen. No muss, no fuss. I did use the CD that came with it to try to install the sound amplifier, but after reading the reviews, I'd already bought a $25 pair of speakers so I plugged those in. I had no problem at all with the picture filling the screen. As someone who spends LONG days at the computer, straining to see my research papers with old eyes, being able to turn the zoom up to 150% and see without sticking my nose in the monitor is WONDERFUL ! I didn't buy this to watch movies on, although I have a feeling if I put one in to watch, it will be just fine. For what I needed this for, it is MORE than sufficient. At this price, I could actually buy another to connect to my laptop, which I REALLY have a hard time seeing ! Also, I did not install the stand. Being able to just use the built in "monitor rest" to prop the screen right in front of me, like a book stand, is perfect !

I have a few issues with this monitor. It cost about 40 bucks more than the monitor that I was planning on buying and I feel let down.1) It can NOT be mounted. It's only 12lbs, so it "could" be mounted, but there are no screw holes in the back... just a shiny plate of plastic. I called Viewsonic, they said nope.2) Text display is... not awesome. On my other viewsonic monitor (22" connected to my ibook), text on web pages is crisp and sharp. On this monitor (connected to my mac mini), it's a bit more aliased/blurry... which makes it more challenging to read, and desktop icons are larger at the highest setting possible (1080p). It's like viewing a website on an old tv set.Called Viewsonic (24/7 phone support) and they walked me through the steps and eventually "guessed" that the supplied HDMI cable may be causing the problems. So, I'll borrow another cable from a friend to see if it fixes this issue. If that's the case, then I have to request the seller (not viewsonic) supply me with a new HDMI cable.3) The built-in speakers are shockingly terrible.I just bring this up to say it's not you (or how you set it up), they just don't have the power to generate sound. They're 2 watts. The sound is like what you would hear coming through someone else's headphones on the subway.Buyers remorse— a 27" monitor is just too big for my working space. My desktop is large, 5' by 3.5', and I had to push the monitor to the far corner of my desk, about 3ft away. It casts off a lot of light (you can turn down the brightness, but it's still a wide pane of light in your face).

I spent a long time looking at various monitors to replace my dinosaur CRT Trinitron beast. I loved the color and sharpness on the old monitor, but the size and energy usage did not fit in with modern pricing for dwelling size and energy consumption. Having a playstation 3 and HDMI out with my new video card on the PC, I was looking for an LED backlit monitor that also had HDMI input. Surprisingly it's fairly hard to find in the sub $200 monitor market. DVI is acceptable, but I hated to have to buy another converter and the lack of sounds input from DVI is difficult if one is to use it as a television. If you plan on using this monitor for your PC and game consoles together, it is very nice to note that it has an audio out to re-route the HDMI audio from the fairly pathetic built-in speakers. Honestly though, the speakers will work in a pinch if you are used to tinny laptop speakers. I'm happy it has a backup solution for those with very limited desk space. Still, I advise using the audio-bypass feature, or the headphone jack. The box came with an HDMI and Vga cable, which is nice, but the initial hookup to the computer was fairly strange. Windows XP did not recognize the monitor through HDMI (It was generic plug-and-play) and set it to its non-native resolution (Make sure this is set to 1920X1080) so the screen looked awful. If you have an ATI card like I do, make sure you open up the catalyst control center and adjust the monitor through there. Catalyst is very helpful! For me, the scaling options tab under the monitor's name was set to underscan at 10% and that should be set to 0% underscan. The slider should be all the way to the right. This should fill the screen and fix the blurry text issues I read about in other reviews. Also make sure to change the input select on the monitor's built-in OSD to PC. It will likely be on AV. Good luck navigating the OSD...it's bad.Pros:24" 1080P HDMI monitor for under $200 (It was as low as $169 on black friday)No dead or stuck pixelsNice contrast and color reproduction for a normal userAudio bypass for HDMILow energy consumptionCan turn off the power light (Yes this is a big deal when watching a movie!)Cons:Speakers are quite awful, but they work in a pinchMight be difficult for some users to configure properly due to the manual being non-existantOSD buttons on side are hard to reach and feel flimsy, and the OSD navigation is awful.Vertical viewing angle is quite nasty. Not a problem for me, but keep it in mind. All in all, this monitor is quite acceptable once you get it configured properly and hook up some real PC speakers to it. Viewsonic's 3-year warranty sounds good, and I am happy to find a good replacement for my CRT. Keep in mind that 16:9 aspect ratio is MUCH shorter (Height-wise) than a 4:3 CRT, so I recommend a 24" because it is about as tall as the 17" I had. If you do a lot of text reading, and coding work, 20" monitors are just too short in my opinion.

Our computer monitor sits on a built in desk under overhead cabinets. The original monitor stand (Viewsonic LCD 22") was so tall the center of the screen was at least 2" above eye level; a recipe for eyestrain. Not only is the image quality of the VX2453 significantly better than that of the 5 year old original (the pixel size and shape is visibly smaller and sharper), but the "easel" stand positions the screen at the ideal height and gives us much more screen real estate.I wasn't sure how robust or well-designed the convertible mount would be but it exceeded my expectations on both counts. The base of the monitor and easel arm are covered with non-slip surfaces. The easel arm is steel covered plastic with a firm but very smoothly operating friction hinge. Just pull the arm out to the desired angle and you're good to go. The arm also folds flat against the monitor for transport. Want a conventional base? Position the included oval base to the easel arm with a single captive "twist-and-lock" connector. One final benefit. . .the previous monitor used a DVI connector that did not support the HDMI digital rights protocol so while the computer has a Blu-ray drive, Windows 7 did not allow HD playback. The HDMI connector on the VX2453 eliminates this problem.(Can't comment on the built-in speakers but I expect they would be marginal at best, especially when the monitor is positioned on the desktop with the easel stand.)

I finally decided to upgrade to a wide screen monitor since this is virtually all you can get these days. I have been using the Dell 1908FP. So I was a little less satisfied when I could not adjust the height of the VX2453MH-LED. This is why I rated this a 4 instead of a 5. My work-around: I placed the monitor on top of 2 thick old-edition security certification books since I don't have phone books. (I haven't seen nor used a phone book since 2010.)Other than the height shortcoming, the monitor meets my requirements as I have been able to get it to work with Windows 8. As for the color adjustments, I initially started with the sRGB but that did not work for me because I was so used to the settings from my Dell 1908FP. ViewSonic should let users be able to select the sRGB and then fine tune from that base. I eventually selected 9300K as my base and did the fine-tuning to get the right color for my work environment/preference.Another thing that bugs me occasionally is the reflectivity of the glossy bezel / trim. Why do they have to make it so shiny?. All in all, it is a good-buy for the price. I recommend it if you're not very tall or if you don't mind raising the height with 1 or 2 thick books.

this is a great full HD monitor. The color is very rich, and the dynamic contrast ratio make it very pleasing for playing games and watching movies. It comes with 2 separate video input ports, VGA and DVI, and can be switched with the 1 and 2 buttons. It also has the added benefit of built-in speakers. While these speakers are not going to deliver theater quality sound when you play games or watch movies, for average use they are quite nice.with that said, the monitor is not without flaws. the speaker volume can be controlled with the up and down buttons, however, not sure if it is common problem, or I received a bad unit, only the down button works directly but not the up button. what I meant is if I press the volume down button, a built-in menu would show up on the screen indicating the current volume level, and I can then adjust the volume with either the up or the down button; however, if I started out by pressing the up button, nothing would happen. So in order to increase the volume, I have to press down first, and then up.Another inconvenience is in order to mute the speakers on the volume, it takes a few button presses because it can only be done using the built-in menu. So if I am enjoying music and then the phone rings, I would always fumble in order to turn off the music, and between the 1/2 and up/down buttons, it is hard to remember which button is exit, which is select, and which is to pick another menu entry.Another inconvience is that the monitor doesn't come with a headset jack. So if I want to listen to music but don't want to disturb others, I would have to plug my headset directly to the computer (and the headset cord is usually not that long).

I bought this monitor about 1 month ago. Its performance has been satisfactory so far. It's biggest pro is its size but suffers from very serious backlight bleeding.- Pros -- Large size- Decent price (bought it on sale for about $250, would not pay the full price of $330 for it)- Dual HDMI ports are nice, allowing it to serve as a small TV; important for small dorm room or bed room- Very lightweight, can be a big deal if you carry your monitor around alot- suffice to say that it produces pleasing color; however, the color it produces is in no way superior to my 5 year old Chimei 22" LCD- screen is very bright, probably too bright, but you can always turn the brightness down- the kickstand configuration can be useful to some, but the brightness of the top and bottom of the screen may vary if you put it in this configuration- mine has no dead or stuck pixel (technically not a pro b/c this is to be expected, but worth mentioning)- comes with speakers (I don't use the speakers but they can be useful to some)Now here are the cons:- very serious backlight bleeding at the bottom of the screen; the bleeding is far, far worse than both my 5 year old Chimei 22" and 10 year old Dell 17" LCD monitor. The bleeding is not only noticeable when watching movies with dark band at the bottom but also during relatively not so bright scenes in, let say, a TV show episode. Luckily, backlight bleeding is not noticeable during office work or web browsing otherwise I'd have to sent it back. Nevertheless, the backlight bleeding issue still annoys me here and there, particularly given that it is so much worse than my other very old monitors.- viewing angel is pretty bad, I can definitely notice the top of the screen go darker if I look down a little from where I am sitting- Does not come with DVI port (not a problem in my case, but useful to have)- the monitor stand is very flimsy- does not include a software configuration utility, using buttons to adjust screen setting can be more cumbersomeKnowing what I know now, I probably WOULD NOT have purchased this monitor. The terrible backlight bleeding bothers me a lot; I don't see any benefit from the supposed LED back lighting (color is just ok and in no way a significant improvement over my old monitor) except maybe in power consumption (I did not check that). When I first connected my computer to it, there was a big dark border all around. To get rid of the border, just go into Catalyst and set overscan to "0%". Hope that helps.

***EDITED***So this is AFTER I waited another few days to get two DVI cables (pretty cheap, 5 or so bucks apiece here on Amazon, not really a huge deal), but the monitors look amazing (I went with 2). I've played multiple games on it, and the colors are very sharp, and the monitors are very nice to look at. My biggest complaint is still that they decided to not warn me I would need to be buying DVI cables to go with my purchase (hence the 4 star rather than 5 (since the box doesn't but barely state that it comes with a vga cable)), but overall a great buy. (original review is below)Well, from what I can tell, this is going to be an excellent product. However, there is this really tiny (which is actually a huge) detail that was left out completely: while yes, there is an option to USE a dvi cable, this product in no way provides one (not even an adapter). this is very problematic for me, since my graphics card setup requires a dvi cable to connect the monitor. If you plan on getting this monitor, make sure your computer can use what it comes with (a standard vga), or purchase a dvi cable so you can set up everything properly.

I am extremely disappointed with this product. I bought this unit to hook up to my mac mini in the office, and it has done nothing but fall short of my experience with past Viewsonic products. First, it comes with two HDMI ports; however, the first port is so touchy that any movement of the unit, and it will lose signal. I plug the same cable into port two, no problem. So I can only assume the connector for port one is bad.Second, it doesn't wake-up from sleep mode very well. I had a small amount of time that I need to use the monitor to hook-up to my AV receiver. It would work fine (on port 2), but when it would go into eco-sleep mode, it would never wake up when the receiver would start sending it a signal again (you could verify this by an indicator on the receiver front panel). I would actually have to cycle power on the monitor, and then it would see the receiver signal. The final straw happen this week. Moved the monitor back into the office, plug the computer speakers into the monitor, nothing! All I get is the crummy sound coming thru the monitor speakers. The connection on the back of the monitor use to send signal to my external speakers; now I get nothing. Tried a different set, still nothing.I can only assume the board with the connections for the outside world is bad, and Viewsonic quality control just doesn't seem to care anymore. I remember using their CRTs, always solid; these flat panels are a complete 180. I don't feel comfortable even goodwilling this. It is going straight to electronic recycling, and I am out a decent chunk of cash. The sad part is that the picture was pretty good when all was working. Physically, though, it is just garbage. For the money, I think I will just try to find a decent 30" HD TV to use in the office.

I upgraded from a 21 inch monitor and was thinking this is only 6 inches bigger. But what a huge difference that makes. It is great being able to put more things side-by-side when reviewing documents, or even just browsing directories.Screen is very clear, and I have it maxed out at the full 1920x1080 (1080p) with no problems. It is a very bright screen too. I currently have the brightness turned down to 20% and it is still nice and bright. I might need to even drop that down another percent or 2.No issues with the plugs coming out - looks like they fixed that issue. All the plugs are nice and tight. I've moved the monitor around a lot, and never had an issue.I only have two complaints. One is the location of the buttons. They are on the right-hand side of the monitor. Based on your setup, if it is like mine, that side is blocked by a wall and I have to slide the monitor over to reach the power button. Wish they would've placed the power button on the front of the unit for easier access. The second is the built-in speakers. They are very tinny, no accurate sound reproduction at all. If you have an alternate speaker setup, I would use it.But overall I really like this monitor. Happy I got it.

I was very excited to have found a reasonably priced LED monitor that received decent reviews. I settled with the ViewSonic after having fantastic luck (years ago) with several CRT monitors (yes, in the dark ages). The shipping was quick and when I picked up the monitor to carry it to my office I couldn't believe how little it weighed. Set up was quick and painless, however the DVD/CD included did not work and I ended up downloading the drivers directly from ViewSonic's website. I did use a DVI to HDMI cable, but there seemed to be no issue there. My system is a 2008 MacPro running Windows 7 via BootCamp. The ATI graphics card is more than suitable for the monitor and the system has 32GB of RAM.The monitor started up quickly and within a few clicks I had installed the drivers and began customizing the settings. The first thing I noticed that at full resolution the monitor did not project fully to the edges of the viewable space. This looked a bit odd as it appeared the monitor image had an additional one-inch black frame around the content. If I reduced the resolution by one step, the content was displayed to the edges as it was supposed to be, but I lost the prime graphics viewing resolution. The second issue I noticed was blurry, fuzzed-out text. I manipulated the various contrast and brightness settings to no avail. Note that the graphics looked fantastic. The blacks were indeed true, other colors vivid and crisp - but not the text. I tested a PDF, MS Word Doc, and various websites with no luck.Although our work deals primarily with satellite imagery and aerial photographs, we also review lots of text and develop reports. I couldn't imagine trying to stare at the fuzzy text for eight to 12 hours a day.In the end, I returned the monitor (still awaiting confirmation) and have since decided to "go big" with a 30" Dell UltraSharp U3011 which is way more expensive, but we have four of them in the office already and they are superb to say the least. So much for saving some coin.ViewSonic has some major work to do here. They need to address the text/font issues. I'll give the monitor two stars only because of the excellent graphics display - beware if you need or want to display and/or read text on this monitor, I would certainly look elsewhere. It will be sometime before I give ViewSonic another go.
