I bought this switch to allow me to use more than one computer and another device a Captel 800i captioned telephone on the same Verizon DSL line with a Westell 6100 modem/router. The Westell 6100 only has one ethernet port so I bought the switch to allow me to hook more devices to the internet. The ease of use hooking it up and using it is amazing. I turned off the modem/router and I plugged the switch in and hooked the dsl line to one of the ethernet ports in the switch (it doesn't matter which port!). I then hooked the ethernet lines from two computers and another from the CapTel 800i phone to the other free ports. I turned on the modem/router and started using both computers and the phone immediately. No programs to load, no set-up, no rebooting of the computers, nothing! Pure plug and play! It was stress free and absolutely wonderful. If only setting up routers and modems were this easy. A great product, reliable, easy to set-up, and use. The case looks a little cheap, but it is a great product for the money. Can't say enough about it.

I needed to attach more pc's to my home network than the router the phone company supplied would support. Amazon delivered in two days and from unboxing to additional pc attached and working took about 1 minute. This little guy is truly plug-and-play.Ken

I purchased this item to split my single port modem into a two port modem so I wouldn't have to keep unplugging my computer ethernet cable from the modem and plugging in the ethernet cable which I ran to my Netflix Tv viewing box. It really is plug-and-play. Works great. I also purchased a short 3-ft ehternet cable:RiteAV - Cat5e Network Ethernet Cable - Blue - 3 ft. -- $1.50I plugged one end of the 3-ft cable into the modem port (I only have one) and the other end into the splitter. I plugged my computer ethernet cable into one of the ports in the box and my Netflix ethernet cable into another of the ports in the box and I was done.It doesn't even matter which of the five ports you use for the cables. Just pick three -- one for the modem, one for the computer and one for the TV box and you're done. You still have two more for future enhancements.

This is the best device imaginable for creating multiple connections to the internet when travelling. I use it at home too. Stays cool to the touch, and so very low energy device. Simplicity plus. Nothing to do but plug in the ethernet cords -- and it works every time.

Works as described! But, with my thinking , it should be called a 4 port switch, as one of the connection slots (ethernet cable slot) is for the input and therefore only 4 slots are available to use for cpu,gaming system,printer, etc.! On Ehow they recommend connecting the input from your modem to the first slot,but also states any will work! Using the first slot is only for ease of hunting down the incoming source! So why doesn't trendnet call one slot the input slot and make life easier, oh well, works great!

We set up many home automation and audio/video systems that need a very reliable ethernet network. This is our go to piece. We have used these as well as the blue 10/100 pieces and out of the 50-100 that we have used we have had no issues and only one defective unit.

I was really surprised how nice the materials for this switch were. This thing weighs around a full pound, I was expecting something light and flimsy. This switch does it's job great!

I have an Apple airport module near my home theater setup. First, I used it only for airtunes and had it connected to the stereo for wireless streaming of music from the laptop. Now, turns out the new blu ray, the new HDTV, the childrens' game console etc. all come with ethernet ports. Since the airport module only has one ethernet 'output' I need a switch to plug them all in. This product does just that. It's an inexpensive solution and does the job perfectly. Plug and play.Now be careful, it is a switch, not a router. If you need a router, get a router. If you know you can get away with a switch, then this product is what you should consider. Also, be careful when counting ports. It says 5 ports, which means 1 'input' and 4 'outputs'. If you want to connect more than 4 pieces of equipment to your LAN, then get a bigger module.

There is a lot to like about this little switch. It is a tremendous value for the price ($12). Completely plug and play with autonomous switching, sensing, and configuration, 1000 entry MAC table. Compact size, small power brick. Darned near perfect for home applications and probably small offices as well. My only complaint is the lightweight plastic construction. Not normally a problem but typical network cables plugged into this will have a tendency to tip it and move it around. I have an audio speaker sitting on mine to keep it from wandering. The TrendNet brand has been coming on strong as a reliable manufacturer for reasonable pricing. I liked the performance of this one good enough to replace all of my older Netgear and Cisco hubs (put them on the shelf as spares). Can't comment on it's longevity, but I hope it holds up over time.

I bought this switch to run my Xbox 360 and computer all at once, and it didn't run more than one product at a time. My fault for not doing better research, had I looked into it I would have seen that many people have had this problem. Save yourself the trouble and go buy a wireless router. It's a little bit more expensive, but this is one of those rare cases where it's worth the extra money.WILL NOT RUN XBOX 360.

This switch arrived earlier today. I purchased it too add more internet connectivity to my living room home entertainment center. I have a Linksys wireless N bridge in my living room attached to my Xbox 360. Since then I've purchased a PS3 and a Blu Ray player with an ethernet jack. The uplink of this switch is connected to the bridge and the 360, PS3 and Blu Ray player in the other ports. Everything works and connects fine at max speed to my D Link wireless N router a room away, at my ISP's top speed (about 10 Mbps). Also the construction of this switch is top notch. It's alsoeco friendly and the price is right!

Small, light, easy to setup, stable. Have my unit linked to a Buffalo router. Have 3 computers and an Access point plugged into it. Works well.

this thing is very simple to use.just plug everything in. I use it to network a couple computers and a playstation three and a dsl modem it works flawlessly. all three devices can use the internet at the same time and i set up a computer network so the two computers can share printers, files, etc. it is really light so i'm not sure how durable it will be over a long period but it was cheap so if i have to buy something else later its not a big deal. if you need something for a home or small office network get this. for the price you cant go wrong.

For the price it cant be beaten. If you need to spread your internet connection to 4 other devices, this is for you. Just so you know though, 5-port means that 1 one of those 5 ports must be for the internet connection (I just used port 1). This leaves 4 other spots for other devices, not five like those with dedicated internet ports. No software needs to be installed nor does it act like a DHCP service so its very compatible with networks for work, college, etc. (a DNS server makes its own sub-network which isnt ideal for campuses or work environments. Since using it several weeks ago I have never had any problems, and I have two computers running off of it 24/7. I stream content from my computers to friends' media extenders or laptops, and I've had 4 people watching 8000kbps video streams at the same time with no stuttering or problems whatsoever--very reliable. I got this for around $17 shipped, but I'd pay up to $30.

Perfect little unit and easy to set up. Just plug it in. I've connected a Sony Bravia KDL-52W5100 television, Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray player, and Asus O!Play media player. I didn't have an ethernet outlet near my home theatre system so I used a ASUS WL-330gE Multi- Functional Wireless Access Point (also a simple little gadget). So thanks to this switch (and the wireless access point), my entire home theatre system has wireless connectivity for firmware updates, network access, and Internet content.

After reviewing many different switches on Amazon, I decided to purchase the TRENDnet 8-port GREENnet switch to expand my home network. There was virtually no setup required other than plugging it in. This item worked right out of the box.

I picked this unit up for occasional use while on travel for work. So far, I've got no complaints. It's small, lightweight, gets the job done, and it was fairly inexpensive.

This is a great switch. I needed to expand upon my 4 router ports as I had recently obtained a TV that uses Ethernet and I prefer cable to wireless, so I got this switch to extend my available ports. I have to say, I just plugged it into a spare power socket, plugged in a patch cable from the router and then cabled the TV and everything worked fine. I didn't have to mess around with anything else. Perfect!

Worked great for an hour. Plug and play as others has testified. Unfortunately, then because of an odd set of circumstances of reorganization of various devices in my system, I accidently plugged in my modem's AC power convertor into this switch's AC port (they are exactly the same size). Unfortunately it did not like it, and in fact within a minute, smoke was coming out of the unit...by the time i realized my mistake the unit was fried. This was totally my mistake, but was shocked that the same size AC convertor plugs are not designed to carry the same amp load! So be careful--the switch is obviously not resistant to stupid mistakes!

I have a router with 4 Ethernet ports. I need another port for my girlfriend's computer, that will make it 5 ports required for my house. This is where the switch comes in. It's very easy to install. I don't need to reconfigure anything, just simply disconnect one of the four devices from the router, connect the switch to the router. Then connect the two devices to the switch. Voila! Now I have 5 devices that can share Ethernet :)

Speed is a must for my home network. I have a 25 Mbps down/15 Mbps up internet plan. I only use wireless unless absolutely necessary. My need for an additional wired connection arose when I decided to purchase a Sling Media Slingbox SOLO (SB260-100)(great product by the way). I only had 1 wired connection running into my bedroom of gadgets, and this was running to my primary computer. Another connection was required for the Slingbox. I considered several powerline adapters, but the higher rated ones were pretty expensive for 1 additional port and still somewhat hit or miss. I am thrilled to have run across this product. Not only is my Slingbox wired, but I no longer have to rely on wireless for my Playstation 3 and laptop. I ran a Speakeasy speed test on my laptop with my wireless G connection and was only able to achieve 15 Mbps download speeds with a very good wireless signal. Once hard wiring it to the TRENDnet, I was able to achieve the max speed possible for my connection, 25 Mbps. I am thrilled to say the least. Can not be beat for the price. Highly recommended!

Caution: Replacing an existing Ethernet switch with this box resulted in the isolation of all downstream Windows 7 boxes as their security then reacted as if they had moved to unsecured networks.Works fine on mixed XP and XBOX applications and is a very inexpensive solution to adding branches on a wired home network as long as no Windows 7 is involved.

I bought this switch for the school to connect 12 computers. Plugged it in and it works. All computers found it just fine. No issues after 30 days. What can I say but 'it works'.
