This switch was up and running within 10 minutes from unboxing. It appears to have a solid contruction and the metal housing is a plus. I installed this unit at my CAT5/Cable junction box to distribute network connections throughout the rest of the house. Some of the connections terminate after 40+ feet of CAT5 cable and the network works fine at all locations! I would recommend this unit if you have a need to increase the number of wired network locations within your home.

I started out happy with the device. Added it to network an existing XBOX (running MythTV) and a new Sony BluRay to the same port in the living room. Everything worked great for a few months, and now I'm having trouble with both the XBOX talking to the server in the basement, and the BluRay watching Netflix. Take the switch out and connect one or the other and the problems seem to go away. Wouldn't think the cables suddenly went bad.

There isn't much to say about this product. It does exactly what it says and does it well. I have one PC, a PS3, and an Xbox 360 hooked up to this in my college dorm. There were initial problems connecting the Xbox 360 but it had to do with the school's firewall, not this product. If you encounter a similar problem talk to an IT Help Desk instead of simply returning it.

I know this switch's data sheet states that it is not intended to be used as a sharing connection hub between multiple computers - but, it does. I have it connected right now to a single RJ-45 cable coming from my router and have my wife's desktop and my laptop connected through this TE100-S5 and both are right now on-line and working very well. I see very little if any reduction in download speeds with this setup.UPDATE 4/25/10. My setup is still going strong and I have permanently set this great switch up down line of my modem/router to service all of the above listed computers plus an additional connection for another laptop. When the grandkids are visiting this TE100-S5 really gets a workout and has never failed to do its job, providing constant and fast internet connection to a desktop and 2 laptops all running at the same time.... and doing so running cool as can be. This is a really good way to share a RJ-45 cable without the fuss of an additional router or the frustration of wireless settings etc.UPDATE: 12/28/12 This set-up is still running perfectly. We changed from DSL to Cable a few months ago and the cable installer was amazed that this little blue box handled the down stream connections. He didn't realize that there "is" a way to "share" a single RJ-45 with several devices. So, looks like even the "experts" can learn a lesson.

I have 3 of these and I had used one to replace a larger switch and it was fine when it only had PC connected to it. Once I connected something other than a PC.. Like an IP phone or another Switch that would be up stream, things got weird. Come communications was ok but there seems to be an issue with knowing what is up and down stream. After repeated attempts at understanding what was happening, I decided to just remove the second unit and use a "better" (more expensive) switch and that corrected the issues instantly.Seems that when ever I have more than one of these units in a network where one feed the other, there are issues.In general when they work they work great. Fast cheap... really cheap! and easy to setup. But if I did not have other equipment to work with I would have thought that they were broke or I had done something wrong.

Everyone said how easy this was to use but I didn't realize that it is completely invisible to the router. Every machine that was plugged into my airport express, functioned exactly the same when hooked up through the TRENDnet switch. All of the port-forwarding and MAC address specific settings required no changes. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a few extra ports in a small package.

The metal case gives it a sturdy feel. The router runs at its rated speed. I have had up and running for over two months without a any problems. This is the third TRENDnet router I have purchased. The first two have been running for two years straight without a single problem.

My equipment rack is 35 ft. from my computer. I have 2 ethernet cat5" ran to the rack.. But i needed more hookups.. So i set up this little switch on my equipment rack-- and pluged one cable into it.. I now have 4 ports that i can use to hook 4 pieces of equipment to the internet..for what this little switch does---- It is an absolute bargan... 5 Stars all day...

I mainly got this for Xbox 360 a LAN. Worked perfectly, no set up issues, just plugged in the ethernet cable and we were set.

This switch works really well for what it is; but it is limited. It's easy to use, easy to set up, just plug it in and go. However, if you are trying to connect multiple devices to the internet and you are using a Comcast cable modem (and probably other cable internet service providers too), this is not the device you want to buy. You will only be able to connect one device at a time if you use this device unless you purchase extra IP addresses from Comcast. If you don't want to pay Comcast extra money every month what you need to buy is a router (which is able to take the IP address assigned to you by your ISP and then assign its own IP addresses to each device, something a switch cannot do). Some routers do not have enough ports for the number of devices you want to connect to the internet, and with those you would need to add a switch like this device (see what playing around with home networking can teach you? :-)) I hope this review helps someone else avoid my mistake, but this is not to suggest that there is any fault with the device itself. For what it is, it works great! :-)

This arrived on time and was very easy to setup. I connected a Satellite receiver and a Blue Ray player to one Ethernet cable. It has been working for several weeks with no problems.

Easy to use, just plug in and you are ready to go...this did require us to restart our computers but after that, the computers set themselves up and we have had no issues. For under $15, this was exactly what we were looking for. Have had no internet crashes or lag time to deal with. The only drawback is that there is no wireless internet...it's not a huge problem but it would be a nice feature to have. But for the $11.50 we paid, this is a great deal!

Initially upon receiving the TRENDnet switch, I was excited to see how compact it was. Then I looked for the instructions...and kept looking. Since the ports were undifferentiated (and undocumented), I just plugged a cable leading to my router into the first port. And then plugged my other devices into subsequent ports. Everything worked great at first, again I was happy.Less than a month later, this (insert expletive) is already dead. I guess you get what you pay for, but I really expected a lifetime measured in months or years, rather than days. My advice, pay a few extra bucks and get something more reliable. Otherwise, if you care about your connection, have some sort of backup mechanism in mind.This junk has left me scrambling for a replacement and paying overnight shipping costs as well. No fun. Normally, I'd try to return it, but honestly for [...] its not worth it.

I picked up this switch so that I could have the computer that is hooked to my TV and my XBox online at the same time. It was the easiest thing to install... you plug it in and you're done... and so far it has worked flawlessly.

Used in the home theater, so it was on 24x7. Worked with blue ray player and DirectTV quite nice, but only lasted a few months. I'll spend more on the replacement to hopefully get better quality from a linksys, dlink, or netgear. I wasn't needing high performance, but it would be nice to at least get a year out of it.

It does what it says! No problems setting up the switch and no problems thus far. I do however wish I got a bigger switch though because now I used up all the open ports with no room to expand.

This little box has restored my confidence that high build quality, low cost, simplicity of use, and reliability are still alive and well in the world of networking components.What can I say? I took it out of its box, quickly hooked it up according to the instructions (which really weren't needed), and plugged in the power adapter to my power strip. Voila! It just worked! That's it!I'm no networking guru, but after congratulating myself for a 5 minute technical job well done, I have to admit that all credit is actually due to this magical little blue box and its apparent excellent design for low cost and ease of use by novices.It has worked without a peep for the past 3 months for me. If you simply need to expand the number of plugs into your DSL wireless (or maybe even non-wireless) router, this is the little box to get!

this item may work well for splitting your LAN connection for PC's, but simply will not work with my xbox live and my PC at the same time. it works with one, or the other. not both. i've tried every possibility (disconnecting/reconnecting ethernet, disconnecting and restarting power, etc) but it just doesn't work.
