I purchased the Trendnet 5 port gigabit switch and was going to buy another and noticed something odd. When I searched for gigabit switches and sorted by average customer reviews among the top reviewed were four Trendnet products - each has exactly 53 reviews and 3 products have exactly 131 reveiws. This is too unlikely to be coincidental.TRENDnet 5-Port GREENnet Switch (5 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX RJ-45 Ports) TE100-S50g (Black Metal)TRENDnet 16-Port GREENnet Ethernet Switch (16 x 10/100Mbps Auto-Negotiation RJ-45ports) TE100-S16EG (Black)TRENDnet 16-Port GREENnet Ethernet Switch (16 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX RJ-45 Ports) TE100-S16g (Black)TRENDnet 8-Port GREENnet Switch (8 x 10/100Mbps Auto-Negotiation RJ-45 ports) TE100-S80g (Black Metal)3 products have exactly 131 reviews:TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Switch (5 x 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX Gigabit Ethernet Ports) TEG-S50g (Black Metal)TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Switch (5 x 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX Gigabit Ethernet Ports) TEG-S5g (Black Plastic)Switch (5 x 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX Gigabit Ethernet Ports) TEG-S5g (Black Plastic)Buy new: $56.00 $27.9955 new from $24.70 1 used from $17.50Get it by Tuesday, Feb 21 if you order in the next 6 hours and choose one-day shipping.(131)Eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping.Product Features - "... efficient Gigabit network in ... standard TRENDnet switches.) ..."14.Product DetailsTRENDnet 26-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch (24 x 10/100Mbps Auto-MDIX Fast Ethernet ports and 2 Auto-MDIX Gigabit Ports) TEG-S224 (Black Metal)The first review in all of the products with 53 reviews is:27 of 27 people found the following review helpful:5.0 out of 5 stars A great switch - truely plug n play, but useless documentation, July 4, 2010ByJohn F. Huesman "QPhysics" (Osgood, Indiana, United States) - See all my reviews(REAL NAME)Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: TRENDnet 8-Port GREENnet Switch (8 x 10/100Mbps Auto-Negotiation RJ-45 ports) TE100-S80g (Black Metal) (Personal Computers)This switch is great. I've been working with computers and networking since the early 90's (anyone else remember Mosaic?), and I've had to deal with a lot of switches that required manually setting every little thing in order to get it to work - and of course every type of router you were connecting the switch to required different settings. This switch is absolutely plug-n-play. If your broadband (cable, DSL) router is filled up and you need to add another network device, you cannot go wrong with this switch. The documentation is horrible, perhaps even a bit misleading. In the troubleshooting section, it says something about the switch not being designed to allow more than one computer to access the internet. Well, that's technically true...you can't just have a switch and really do anything with it...but if you have broadband access, you have a router (technically, that box on your desk is a router plus a 4-port switch) so that is already taken care of.So...here's the details on how to get all your computers, network printers, network storage, game consoles, blu-ray players, etc. to talk to each other and the internet. Be sure to follow these instructions exactly...1. Turn off all your computers, printers, etc., and the broadband router.2. Unplug something (anything, it doesn't matter what, but I usually use port 1) from the broadband router.3. Run a short ethernet cable between the port on the router you just freed up and ANY port on the switch.4. Plug the thing you just unplugged and everything new into the switch.5. Plug the switch AC adapter into the wall and the back of the switch.6. Turn everything back on.THAT'S IT! How could it get any easier than that?I think TRENDnet is really missing a selling point here by not stressing how easy this switch is to add to your existing network!I don't know, and honestly I'm not going to try and measure, how much energy is actually saved by the graduated power sent to the ports based on cable length, but I think it's a nice feature to shut down power to a port if the device is idle for long periods of time.So far, I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this switch. When I first pulled it out of the box, I thought it was a bit light (even though it is made out of metal and not cheap-o plastic) to stay on the desk when 8 cables are plugged into it...but then I noticed that they even included a square of velcro to attach to the desk and switch so it wouldn't move around.Summary: if you need to expand the number of ports in your network, buy this switch.I'm also emailing this to Amazon CS to look into

I normally wait until I'm sure I won't experience an early-life failure, and I had doubts that this would work through an ethernet-over-powerline adapter, but since it was only $10 and it DOES work - exceptionally well, and it saved me from crawling around in the attic to drop another Ethernet connection, I'm recommending it early. This is powered on continuously, and used daily for streaming HD and other content from Netflix, Amazon, and to XBMC via the Raspberry Pi.If you need a solution like this, get a switch. NOT a hub. A hub might work for you, but a switch is a little smarter and the difference in price is negligible. (I did see one hub that was considerably more money than this switch.)I have four devices connected to this: a Roku 2 XS, a Raspberry Pi, a Blu-Ray player, and an LCD TV. So far, it's solid, reliable, and trouble-free. If I have a gripe, it's that this unit is so small and light-weight, that I had to massage the cables and change the lengths to get the box to stay put where I wanted it. If you need it, and know what it's for, get it. For the price, you won't be disappointed.FWIW, my LAN equipment:Actiontec GT701D DSL ModemNetgear WNR3500L N300 Wireless Gigabit RouterNetgear XAVB101 (3 each from AV 200 Adapter kits)Trendnet TE100-S5 5-Port 10/100Mbps SwitchMy LAN configuration:Century link DSL -> GT701D -> WNR3500L -> Wireless N, XAVB101 (#1), and one PCXABV101 (#2) -> Antique Dell 370XAVB101 (#3) -> TE100-S5 -> (Port 1) Roku 2XS and (Port 2) Raspberry Pi

Summary - Solid performance and Reliability. Great cost. The problem - for Home Video files a large amount of bandwidth is necessary to support the transfer of data. This was congesting the wireless network. I also had three devices to connect: a Bluray player; a Apple TV, and a Roku. The solution - the use of this switch in conjunction with an Apple Airport Router Airport Extreme 802.11N (5TH GEN)and a Slingbox SlingLink Slinglink Turbo 1PORT Enet Connection Bridge (SL 150-100).The implementation - Since the Airport has limited wired router ports, and they were all used, I utilized one switch to unload the router and the second switch to distribution the data from the slinglink.Complications - I only had one issue. Since I have Directv, the Directv everywhere protocol did NOT like the fact that it was hooked to a switch and not the router. This caused the the Directv to tell me on my iPad that my Directv was on a different network. The solution was to plug the Directv Ethernet connection directly into the Airport. After that, no issues.Notes - I did read where some people have tired to use a switch in front of their router and after their cable modem. Since most data providers prevent this in their modem software, this is typically not possible. This is no fault of the switch.Performance - I was streaming on to my iPad through wireless (SD), streaming on the Apple TV (HD), on the Roku (SD), and the Bluray (HD). There was no desegregation of image quality. Although I was switching between streams on my LG, I saw no dropouts. I continued to watch a movie from Apple to the end and saw no video artifacts, tiling, etc.Reliability - These last two join a switch I have wired in the basement for the kids set-up in the play area (XBox, Wii, Bluray). I have had this one for eight months or so now. It has performed flawlessly, so my current expectation is for the same level of quality.Recommendation - I always look at the one star reviews to contrast the five stars. Having read them all, I can honestly say that I am not having any of those issues. I would recommend this product and, as this last purchase bears out, would buy it again.

This little switch is just what I needed! If you've tried using gaming consoles through their wireless adapters, you're mileage may very... In this case, I'm just far enough out of reach from my Actiontec 300 Mbps Wireless-N DSL Modem Router (GT784WN) that the wireless connection just wasn't acceptable, even though everything in it's range is fantastic.I had a few options; buy some Powerline Adapters (costly, possibility they don't work in this house with old electrical wiring, would rather not be the guy who accidently sets the place on fire, etc), or four very long and noticeable (not exactly in the position to drill holes in the house, other devices need other LAN ports, etc) Ethernet cables. In my grand scheme of things, I tried using Internet Connection Sharing with my laptop to my devices which they fought about (couldn't get an Open NAT through ICS). With this set up I was also back to using the laptop through wireless, and just wasn't happy about the situation. Then my brain clicked. Oh yeah! Switches! I managed to forget about using a switch somewhere in my empty brain. So, spending about $10 on Amazon and another $10 on Monoprice for a 100 ft Ethernet cable, I have the router assigning IP addresses and one very long, but tucked away from guests, Ethernet cable running to the switch. The switch itself blends in nicely with my other gadgets.Overall, I'm pretty happy to have a LAN connection going to my PS3, 360, Wii U, and laptop for about $20 total!

Since dumping cable and running everything off the internet, we have found an increasing need for ethernet ports. TRENDnet TE100-S5 5 Port Ethernet Switch was exactly what we needed to increase the limited number of ethernet ports coming out of the router. Our router is located in our basement and not wanting to run several ethernet cables through the floor for various needs upstairs, I purchased this and ran a single cable. At the moment, we have a Blu-ray player capable of running both Netflix and Amazon Instant Video (among other things) and a computer running out of this single unit. We have had no problem with signal strength, even with both units running at the same time. We also run a MagicJack Plus unit out of this same ethernet switch with no problem.Because we have been able to connect almost everything with an ethernet cable, we have avoided the need to buy wireless adapters for each of our devices which can run from either ethernet connection or wireless. Just avoiding that, we have saved a ton of money and I am pretty convinced we are getting better quality than we would if, for example, the Blu-Ray players were receiving a wireless signal instead of an actual ethernet connection.I was so pleased with the way this unit worked that I purchased a second one to use at work and have had equal success there.I am always looking for great value at low cost and this has provided it. It has been working for over a year now and I have not even paid the slightest bit of attention to it, which is exactly what I want from it.

I've only had this running for a few days, but so far it's all going well. My setup is Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem -> Netgear WNR3500L-100NAS Router -> TRENDnet switch. I have a cable of about 100 ft running between the router and the switch, and it appears to be a rock-solid connection.I have two main areas in my home that I use connections heavily: in the first area I have my OBi100 VoIP and main computer (all connected to the Netgear), and in the second area I have XBOX, PS3, Zotac ZBOX and SmartTV (connected to this switch).Since I really only use one device connected to this switch at a time, and rarely transfer large data files, the 100Mbps speeds are plenty adequate (Netflix streaming works great). I did transfer some large files just to try it out, though, and was pleased enough with the performance. So far, as price-to-performance ratio goes, I am happy with the product.

I have AT&T U-verse. I have both wired and wireless receivers. Because the setup I wanted was far away from the access point , I needed/wanted a wired connection for my new Vizio 47" E3D470VX and Sony BluRay Player BDP-59X. The AT&T receiver only had one ethernet port. This tiny box is truly "plug and play". I used a 1.5 ft cat 5 cable from the AT&T box to the TRENDnet switch, then two 6" cat 5 cables out of the switch. One to the BluRay Player and the other to the TV. I still have room for my grandkids to connect a game console. It doesn't matter which port you use for in or out.Because I am not at all technical, I had reservations when I read in the AT&T community forum that the switch would have to be 802.1p compatible. Don't worry. This switch has worked fine for me.

The reviews sold me on it, but, was still a tad hesitant because the price was so low. Any concerns I had faded very quickly, though. Like everyone says, just plug and play, and works perfectly right out of the box.Tip: if you're like me and unfamiliar with switches, don't worry when you don't see a line-in for internet. It has 5 ports, you just choose any of the 5, and voila. I have a modem and router and wasn't 100% sure whether to put between the 2 or after the router, but was pleased when I called support before even trying and got excellent service. For what it's worth, yes, it does go after the router which you'd think, but heck, nothing like being 100% certain.

I have used TrendNet products for decades, and so when I found myself running out of room on my router, I decided to append a switch (daisy-chain fashion for those who are familiar).Pros:You can't beat the price (I've paid more for a phoofy Starbux coffee and donut)There is NO install, just plug this gizmo into any available port on your router (or modem, whatever), and you have immediate 4 (or more) ethernet ports at your disposal. (More, if you order their 8 port, or 16 port switch.)Small footprint, I have it velcro'd to my desk hutch, hidden by the monitor, yet available as needed.Cons:Just 10/100, no gigabit traffic; but I don't have gigabit web service, so this is not an issue for me. If you need speed, TrendNet also offers fast switches.

Even been frustrated by only having four wired ports on your router? Here's four more (plus one to connect to the router). I plugged this in, connected to the router, and it just worked (for a couple of months now, no problems). I have a PhD in Computer Science, I teach Computer Networking and Distributed Systems, and I didn't need any of that background. My 80 year old mother could install this device. Don't worry that it doesn't support 1000Mbps unless you are doing high speed transfers of huge files (like HD video) between computers connected to it. Most computers can't push data that quickly anyway. What a great price for such a satisfying purchase!

Ужасно

I received this product thinking it did exactly what other reviewers said that it did... takes 1 internet connection and splits it into 2 or more. This is not what it does, and in the booklet that comes with it, it explains that it will not do this, and that you need an internet splitter to perform that task -- which is what I thought this product was. Forgive me for not being technical, but I thought that if I plugged in my single ethernet cable in one side, that I could insert several ethernet commections into the other side and get an internet connection to all the devices. None of the devices had an internet connection, and after reading the pamphlet that came with it, I decided to return it (in disgust).

Works great, nice little switch to keep in the laptop bag just in case. Just remember that it won't substitute for a router if used at home with a cable modem (I have Comcast and am sans router for about a month... long story). If your ISP only gives you one IP address (most do) and you plug the switch straight into the modem you will have to reset the cable modem when switching between devices. The ethernet switch helps minimize the amount of cord switching you have to do though which is nice. Great value for the price.

With the living room entertainment center getting more and more internet devices I started to need more cables to connect all them. I didn't want to have them all on wifi, plus some of them needed to be hard wired. So finally getting tired or switching the one cable I had there back and forth between devices I finally got my cheap self to pony up the cash and buy a switch.Set up was easy, plug the network cable from my router into the switch. Then plug network cords from the switch to the devices and done, no more moving one cord back and forth. Truthfully working as an IT specialist I feel stupid for not doing this earlier. While I never heard of TRENDnet, the many positive reviews and the cheap price led me to it. While it does feel somewhat cheap, it does its job perfectly and has been running day and night for a few months now without a problem. I would recommend this to anyone.

Плохо

I was looking to hook-up another computor to the Internet and needed another device because my cable modem only had one Ethernet port. When I searched for devices on Amazon this was just one item I clicked on. When I read the description giving by Amazon I had no clue if this is what I needed, so I decided to read the reviews. I purchased this SWITCH because of the numerous comments by reviewers that said they used this SWITCH to hook-up multiple devices to the Internet.Well it didn't work for me and I found out why. I spoke to someone who installs SWITCHES and ROUTERS. I was told that and ethernet SWITCH is used to hook-up other devices so they can communicate with each other (e.g.,home networking). An ethernet ROUTER is used for mulitple devices so they can access the Internet. The ROUTER allows you to share one IP address for several devices. I'm perplexed as to why some people said they used it as if it were a ROUTER.Bottom line: This (SWITCH) alone plugged into a cable modem is not designed to hook-up multiple devices to the Internet. A SWITCH can be used if you run out of ports on your ROUTER and need to hook-up more devices to the ROUTER (e.g.,computors, Smart T.V.s, gaming equipment).
