So I've had a chance to use this camera for a couple of days now in NYC and I do really like it. I'm not listing all the pros because they are listed in the product description. The portraits and city landscape pictures I took came out great. Don't expect to zoom in on a far away subject. This is the camera's limitation. For a night out with friends specially in bars and restaurants, this is a perfect camera to bring. I prefer to use the PASM modes because the superior and intelligent auto modes wasn't working for me. This is why I took half a star because I couldn't really just point and shoot.

I don't regret buying this camera because this is the best pocket camera right now. I just wish that the Panasonic lx8 is available now so I can at least compare.

I own a micro four thirds Panasonic gx7. I thought I can replace it with the rx100iii. I will be keeping my micro four thirds camera.

With this case you will have to take the camera out of the case to use it.
It would be nice if it could remain in case to fully use the camera. Having said that it does
protects the camera. Maybe a pocket on the back for a spare battery or spare SD Card?

Did not fit Sony RX100 III or II. The delivered item not the same as in photo bottom view.
BUT excellent quality for whatever it does fit.
I would have tried again since I'm sure they must make the one in the photo but had no time.
Amazon, of course, quick and efficient in return and refund.

This is a terrific little pocket camera and one that is a perfect back up for a large DSLR camera that one doesn't always want to carry. The functions are easy to find and with the high resolution and capability of shooting raw format, there are few drawbacks. It is probably the best pocket sized camera on the market right now. The only big limitation is the low zoom when shooting raw, but one can store a different shooting set in memory so if you want to use high zoom in jpg mode, it is just a quick turn of the wheel. The only negatives I have found are not having a shoe, capability of attaching filters or the possibility of using a shutter release. However, the built in ND filter is a nice perk!

Very satisfying camera in auto mode but has manual controls for non normal situations. I like that I can manually focus while in movie mode so when panning in low light situations, the focus doesn't oscillate in & out. Another great feature in the bright daylight, the view screen is useless so the pop up electronic viewfinder is fantastic. The one problem that a lot of owners complain is that if you retract the electronic viewfinder, the camera shuts off, losing all of your settings for the next shot (retracting the viewfinder to conserve on battery life) oops!

I bought this after returning a less-expensive Nikon because I wanted crisp gorgeous pictures and ease of handling. The Sony is a wonderful camera, easy to work, but with a depth of choices that I still haven't gotten used to. That's my project for 2015.

I (and many) have been waiting for this model of the RX100 series. It was the addition of the amazing EVF pop-up (looks exactly like my RX10 EVF), the bright 1.8-2.8 lens, the (finally!) cool "we-fie" flip-up LCD screen, a pop-up flash that can be flicked back for a good fill flash effect), and the inclusion of the more modern ALPHA operating system. Handheld twilight, Anti-motion blur, are all here. Quiet, quick, and efficient.

OK, its all near perfection. All I can add is that It is a bit of a chunk, but solid. It will fit in pants pockets but you will know that its there. It is a bit heavy and slippery while trying to shoot with one hand (needs only a tiny grip). Use the wrist strap! It's the 1-inch sensor (like the RX10) so it has a ~2.5 crop factor, which limits the smooth bokeh you might expect. It cannot accept filters.

Other than that, sell what you have a get this.

The best camera you can have in your pocket. Most of the time great photos, snapshots is what I like more and this camera is perfect for that precisely.. Otherwise you would miss some unexpected good pictures. I don't take my FujiPro or the X100S or the Nikon D300. I just take the Sony RX100 and after I purchased the first version of it (I offered it to my daughter, who also likes it) I became addicted to it. I have the Sony always on my bag too, with my notebooks, books, fountain pens. If no other camera existed I would still be happy because I still would have this one.

Have had this Case for a couple of weeks & like it a lot so far! Love that it screw into the bottom of the camera & feels really secure. I like not having to take it completely out of the case to take pictures. Love the look of it too. My only suggestion for improvement so far would be to have the shoulder strap clip on to the case in a way that was easy to detach because sometimes when I just want to stick it in my pocket the strap is annoying!

This camera had so much hype as "the best point and shoot ever." So being that I'm a camera nerd - I had to try it. Well I have been a little disappointed. I guess for $700 I was hoping for SUPER AWESOME pictures - and all I have gotten are pictures that are just fine. I walked around all day taking the same pictures with this camera, a cheaper canon point and shoot, and the canon SL1. The SL1 had the best pictures by far! And that camera was only $500. I'm not giving up on this guy - I'm going to play with it through the Summer. BUT here is my tip - If your just a normal person taking pictures of your kids, friends and family - I would not spend $700 on this camera. You can get just as good of pictures with a cheaper camera.
Plus this was Prime - and it was super late - took about 2 weeks to get this.
Update, May 26: I just took this camera on my Disney trip so I would not have to lug a DSLR around the parks and I was SO DISAPOINTED !!!! I almost stopped to buy a new camera while I was there. Luckily I had Disney's Photopass - so no worries. This camera is going on Ebay today - I would not spend $700 on this camera!!!!!!!!!

This camera makes me a good photographer, which says a lot! It takes amazing pictures and in automatic modes does a lot to improve your pics, including composition. Super happy with this purchase!

Heavier than I expected. A pocket camera if your wearing cargo pants. EVF a bit awkward. Seems well constructed.
IQ is very good given the nature of this camera.

I am a Sony camera guy. I am not totally satisfied with the camera, in fact I returned it. The camera is tiny and lightweight, its two best features. If you are a serious photographer, as I am, then the end product is not phenomenal. I also own a Sony Alpha Nex 7 and it simply takes better, crisper, more detailed photos than the RX1003.
Admittedly, the Nex 7 feels chunky and heavy by comparison, but by most standards, the Nex 7 is far smaller than most top quality cameras. I always want the best equipment I can comfortably hold and the RX1003 is limited in its zoom capabilities, to name another flaw. I certainly took some very nice shots with the RX1003, but it can't hold a candle to the Nex 7.

I have lots of experience with digital cameras; mostly Nikons and a couple of smaller Canons. I was looking for an upgrade for the Canon G15 [which I love, but wanted a bit more in a sensor]. I did a lot of reading and when the newest version of this came out, the RX100MII price dropped, so I got it for an upcoming trip. It is a sophisticated camera that requires the user to spend some time to familiarize themselves with settings. The manual was described by others as useless. They were right. I bought a photographer's user guide book that has been very useful and after having spent a chunk of time on an airplane reading about the camera [that was still at home], I've spent some time with settings. Early efforts show me I'm close, but it needs tuning. It's probably me and not the camera. If the camera works as advertised, I'd give it a 4.5 [the body design is a bit clunky and the manual isn't worth the ink used].

The most bang-for-the buck in the whole Sony Point and shoot series. The only thing missing is the trade off in hot shoe versus GPS.
Compared to the over-priced DM-1 "hog" at $1800+ and a fixed lens (no less), this is the clear winner with a fairly intuitive menu and outstanding low-light and burst capabilities. Low shutter lag. What remains hugely annoying with Sony is poor customer support especially under warranty (which I have not had to use for this) and the low OEM but extremely high cost parts and accessories. For example, the recommended flash with accessory is almost equal to the cost of the camera AND because of the PROPRIETARY SHOE connection, only the Sony flash will work with this camera.

I love the Sony RX100-2. I really do! However, I'm having trouble with the SD card that came with it, and I'm out of the country for a few months, so hope to find someone who can help me trouble-shoot the error messages I'm getting. Here goes; First, today is the second time I've received a message that the card can't be recognized, and giving me the option to format it or cancel. First time, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to format it, and of course, lost several hundred photos I've taken over the last three months. Today, I don't want to loose the photos again, so if anyone can tell me what these two symbols indicate, I'd appreciate it a lot! The first is a green or orange (it changes) blinker along the upper edge of the screen, like this: --E- Any ideas on that one? The second is this combo blinking in the center of the screen: C:13:00. And, finally, whenever I turn the camera on today, the first message I get is: NO CARD, followed by: Unable to use memory card. Format? Enter or Cancel. I'm frustrated! Can anyone give me an idea what's going on? Fortunately, I bought a spare card, but if the camera is 'eating' cards, I don't want to try using that one. If it's only the original card that came with the camera.... thank goodness I got a spare! Will hold off on making any drastic decisions til someone answers my plea for help! Lee J

Image faulty is very, very good on this little camera but in the end I returned. It was not to as good in low light as I had expected

Camera needed servicing right out of the box for sensor dirt. Sony customer service wanted me to pay for the shipping of the camera for service. This added insult to injury, as my vacation photos and movies were marred by sensor spots.

Camera is very difficult to hold as the surface is smooth and flat, camera is small.

Menu system is hard to use and unless you turn some things off you will be taking movies when you don't want to or changing the ISO and not know it. Really bad control design.

Positives: excellent quality sensor. Images and movies looked great (other than sensor dust).

External charger received trips my electricity, too scared to try the extra batteries.
Box is not new. Camera is used, the screen had a thumb print and a scratch on it. Otherwise the cameras works well.
USB cable received as part of the original accessories is fake. Not a sony cable.
Arm strap is missing from the original accessories but is mentioned in the manual.

I love this camera! It has taken my photographic capacities to the next level. I was looking for the best compact camera on the market . . . something with near dslr quality in a compact frame. This is it! Nothing but good to say about it!

Love the camera! We bought it to use for a photography class my wife was taking and also to bring along for our 2 week European honeymoon. Loved that I was able to pocket the camera when not in use. We saw so many others with large DSLR's and couldn't imagine carrying such a large camera all the time. The movie quality was amazing. Sound could be better, picked up more of the camera operator than subjects.

A jewel of a pocket sized camera, with amazing image quality. Sony has packed the camera with features you would expect in a DSLR. The large sensor and fast lens results in the ability to take photographs in low light. The autofocus is fast and accurate. The lens has a relatively short range and is somewhat limiting. Strangely the pop-up viewfinder shuts the camera off when it is restored to its retracted position. Although I was impressed with its features I did not feel it warranted its $799 price tag. I returned it and purchased a competitors product.

This camera is amazing in what it is able to do for such a compact size. Unfortunately the included information from Sony is not much help at explaining the many menu and setting options. Gary L. Friedman's e-book is a great reference for how to get the most out of the camera. Many of the reported "problems" with the camera by other reviews reflect the reviewers' lack of knowledge of how to use the camera. The flash is very flexible, and shooting in low light without a flash is possible with great results using the iAUTO+ (“SUPERIOR AUTO”) shooting mode. Get a screen protector, and check out he Vivitar compatible batteries.

I was looking for a solution for when a DSLR just isn't possible. Example formal dinner in a suite and tie. But I didn't want to settle and sacrifice image quality. The RX100 iii has blown me away. I am a skeptic by heart so when I heard about all the amazing things the RX100 iii could do I was doubtful but I wanted to give it a chance. I am glad I did, not only is this little camera designed very well in my opinion the image quality is on par with my 7D. I tested images using my favorite go to 17-55 f2.8 against what this tiny camera could do and it kept up if not in some instances beat it from a iso noise perspective. Sony really out did themselves. This will for sure go with me wherever I go. You just never know when a moment will happen that you will want to capture. If you are looking for something small with great image quality look no further.
