I loved the first RX100 until, the night of my daughter's birth, it decided not to open the camera lens, had some motor malfunction, and kept saying 'Turn power off then on". Luckily this was right before the new RX100iii was out. So I ordered it.
Today I got the RX100iii from Amazon. Took about, oh, 20 photos with it (the RAW format versions didn't work with Apple's Aperture, fyi), and tonight thought I'd get an awesome pic of my daughter. Grabbed the camera and guess what.
"Turn power off then on" and the exact same lens cap opener issue staring me right in the face.
And it is brand new - one of the first batch sold.
Thank God it's Amazon and I can send it back.

I like Zeiss Lens all other amenities in the camera.
The only drawback is not supplying neck strap.

The quality is OK but this DOES NOT FIT RX100 MK3 - there's too much space on the top of the camera.

The best compact camera i've ever had in my hands. Completely replaced my Canon 5D mk2 due to balance of convenience, size and quick-shoot performance. I don't miss the 5D2 quality when I shoot RAW with this puppy.

Other reviewers covered the technical prowess of this camera well. It certainly lives up to its reputation. The main reason I consider this camera to be a winner is its photo quality.. even on automatic settings. I've historically been stuck between larger cameras that shot great pictures but were cumbersome to carry around and pocket-able cameras that shot underwhelming photos. This camera seems to have struck the perfect balance between quality and form.
It is worth noting, as another reviewer mentioned, that the zoom is down to 24-70. IMO this is absolutely fine because most of my photos are scene-based or easily close enough for 70 to be sufficient. Perhaps less suitable if you're bird watching.

dro. . king at photos online from this camera, I can tell that people are not fully using the camera and all its features. I see many wash down and overexposed photos being posted online..with the right custom settings you can take some stellar photos with this camera..the cameras physical build is excellent..my biggest criticism of the camera is its tendency to blow out highlights, but like I said with the right settings involving exposure compensation and DRO you can get beautiful images

Just upgraded to RX100M III from RX100. Couldn't be more happier. Since I already know the in's & out's of the camera it was a easy transition. Love the EVF. Bright & clear, one has to be a bit careful handling it, needs to be pulled back after popping it open.There is a tiny diopter to adjust the view (almost invisible). Have been using the camera for a full day now.Outstanding image quality. Heard that some people had difficulty opening Raw files, no problem using PS CC. Older versions of PS won't open it. all in all a great camera. I use it as a companion camera to Nikon D800 & Mamiya 645 & Fuji 100S,always have been satisfied with the image quality.Just buy it & you will be happy you did.

I have a habit of selling cameras to get whatever new one sounds great. I've had Canon 30D, 20D, 2 "L" lenses, a Sont NEX 7 with the 18-55 kit lens. Didn't want to lug the weight of the DSLRs and the NEX7 demands another $800-&1000 for a lens capable of the technical features of the camera. I've had the RX100M2 for a week now and am thoroughly pleased. Image quality is outstanding. I can crop 10% out of a full sized image and still retain clear detail. It is small in my large hands but an added Lensmate front grip has solved my confidence in holding it. I tried he wrist strap for a few days but felt it slightly inadequate considering the value of this camera. I've ordered the reasonably priced leather strap made for the NEX7. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I can't imagine trying to carry his fine camera in my pocket with no protection. A decent LCD screen protector is $11, very with the investment on a $750 camera.Bottom line...the RX100M2 is capable of exceptional images. Returning to add....I meant to include reference to the great Zeiss lens mated to a great new sensor. The buttons are small but a few days of shooting and anyone can learn where they are...almost everyone. Autofocus is fast although I haven't tried low light very much yet. The lens motor is almost silent and the programmable zoom ring is firm but precise. I like the heft of the camera. It feels like a solid camera for its size. And the WiFi downloading of images to my phone is great if you can't wait to get home to show them off. I have an old school opinion that cameras don't belong on phones, despite the pretty decent quality of the images. I prefer top quality images to be displayed on any media and this camera does just that. Now I need to save up for the EVF because I got used to the one on the NEX7 and it was suburb.

I'm a professional photographer and was looking for a high quality small point and shoot camera to carry with me when traveling. Did a lot of research and hands on with many cameras and selected this Sony even though all my pro gear is Canon. My decision heavily influenced by Digital Photography Review testing and conversations with other professionals. This is a small, lightweight general purpose all in one camera that produces very high quality images that can be uploaded to social media by linking through a smartphone.

Short and sweet; this little guy is the real deal... Build quality, image quality (good at higher ISOs), EVF, flash...it's just awesome and oh, so portable... I bought it to replace a Leica D-Lux 5, as a portable alternative to augment my gear and as a quick, point-and-shoot option... I honestly believe I could use it as my primary Weapon of Image Production (WIP; need to trademark that) and be satisfied... I'm 6'2" and wear XL gloves but don't find this "too small"; it's meant to be a small, portable option! Overall, I love this thing...

Great Compact Camera. Shoots just as well as my DSLR. One of the best low light compact cameras. It's got a price tag, but I think it's well worth it.

I like the look of the case. Very classic and I planned on it having be the perfect travel case.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
The screw for the camera is slightly off from the tripod mount point. This, however, was not a big deal as after forcefuly screwing it on and off a few times and letting the camera sit with the screw inserted, the cover seemed to 'adjust' just fine.
The shoulder strap was almost impossible to get on. It's probably me and being unable to tie it on correctly, but my girlfriend had a problem with keeping it tied as well and the belt kept loosening up. There were no instructions included on how to bind the shoulder strap correctly.
Lastly, the the button the closes the case broke after only a few days of use. This breakage rendered the cover completely useless as the cover flap kept flopping off while traveling.
Overall, gorgeous cover that looked great for travel, turned out useless in the real world

It basically just came down to a point where I told myself this during a vacation:"I am not a professional photographer. I am just a serious hobbyist who likes getting quality pictures during family vacations. I do not shoot sports or fast action, I do not shoot weddings. What are you doing walking around Las Vegas with a Nikon D7000, big/heavy Nikon 17-55 F2.8 around your neck, along with the other lenses and your flash inside your camera bag which is hanging on your shoulder???"No more. To be honest, it was taking the "fun" away from photography. After a few hours of walking around during trips (wherever I would be), I would just feel tired and desperate to dump my camera bag somewhere and leave it there forever. At certain times, it started to feel more like a "duty" to crouch down and get this certain tough shot.Do not get me wrong. I am aware that with DSLR's, among other larger cameras, you are able to get magnificent results and shots that I may not get with my RX100M2. But you know what? It's vice versa. There will also be shots I get with my RX100M2 that I would never have gotten with my DSLR.The RX100M2 is plenty sufficient for what I shoot, which is 99% landscape/scenery, family portraits and some low light.....which is what this camera is made for. It has AMAZING image and video quality for a camera this size. It is as close to DSLR as you can get. VERY well built, not plastic cheap stuff. There is NO better traveling camera than this, period. It easily fits in my pocket, while giving me superb results.I plan to use this little gem like crazy.

Amazing camera. In term of picture it is at least as good as A nikon D7100. Amazing optic also. Need some more flexibility in customization for the Settings. Almost perfect!

Beach Camera was quick to ship and answer questions, everything was exactly as it should be, the bundle was exactly what I was looking for and at the right price, very satisfied.
Sony DSC-RX100M II is the best compact camera I have had, the tilting screen makes all the difference in taking pictures outdoor. Camera has a solid feeling. Pop out flash needs some getting used to. Both movies and pictures are great.

design look nice and feel quality to use. nice size to carry with me. zeiss lens give nice sharp for general purpose. able to do photo in dark without using flash by pushing to high iso. but it could not perform nice bokeh as family portrait like full frame like i did with sony a900. i should not compare apple vs orange so i am still wait for new rx-2 to be released one day.

Takes awesome photos, very high quality sensor. Even in lower lighting, it is pretty powerful. And really nice videos as well, in full 1080 progressive HD. Great lens. I would highly recommend this camera.

Amazing camera. I've been very happy using this compact camera. I love my Nikon DSLR but this little gem is a great always-with-me camera. I also bought the excellent wood handgrip Andon from JB Camera and boy does it improve the feel for someone used to DSLRs. If you can get over the cost, this is THE compact camera to own.

I'm just getting used to the camera, but so far, I'm quite content. The extras that were included by the seller were appreciated and will be useful - a separate battery charger and extra battery, card, case, and longer cord.... I purchased a separate guide (over 400 pages) for this camera. The included manual is lacking, and from the setup, the book was needed. I suggest that one buys it to aid in using this amazing camera fully.

Fantastic camera, takes beautiful, sharp and bright pictures. Great digital zoom mostly makes up for the short throw of the lens. Incredibly portable for the size of the camera, and I can take it just about anywhere! Worthy of the praise it receives.

Great camera. The picture quality is great and you can take selfie with its 180 degree flip screen!
The biggest advantage: YOU CAN PUT IT INTO YOUR POCKET!
When you buy an 3 -4 lbs DSLR, you can't take it with you all the time, especially when you are traveling. If you are not a photographer, you don't need that kind of big and heavy camera.
