The camera is great. Take time to play with it. I would not recommend this purchase if you're looking for an everyday point-and-shot camera. Although this has a lot of great features, I can do just as well with my older, much-much cheaper Sony Cyber-Shot.
When I compared my regular snap shots with a cannon mirror-less camera (%60 less expensive), the cannon took better, sharper pictures half of the time. The macro shots on the RX100M2 are really beautiful. The video quality on the camera is pretty good.
Bundle:
I purchased the camera with a bundle. The extra batteries, the wall charger/adaptor, memory card were necessary purchases. Everything else either broke upon first use, did not suite or fit the type of camera or was left out of the bundle altogether. Amazon handled it pretty well though.

It is true that the battery is not great and takes a LONG time to fully charge... but you can always get another one.
This camera is WELL WORTH THE MONEY - you won't be disappointed. Great job Sony!

To me though, it has the customization options and usability that come close to an SLR. Given its size it just blows SLRs out of the water.
I bought this camera right before I took a four month trip around the world. It held up to the beating I gave it and produced some truly amazing photos.
I have recommended this camera to family and friends, and if anything ever happened to it I would gladly purchase another.

The lens protectors are flimsy, and stopped working properly after 3 days. Now one is stuck open permanently. It's been 5 months.
The camera is slow. If you forget to switch movie mode to MP4, or if it decides to switch itself back because Sony, prepare for a ridiculous ordeal of proprietary Sony software and file formats to get some sort of usable file format.
Do not buy this piece of crap.

Sony manual is pathetically inadequate, however. I'd highly recommend getting the third-party book, Photographer's Guided to the Sony DSC-RX100 III (Alexander S. White) to get the most out of the camera.

You might want to take a look at this Fujifilm to ensure you are getting the best value for money based on the comparison: http://amzn.to/1BrYBUq

The package from Beach Camera is a pretty good deal. I got a couple of really useful things out of it: you need an SD card, right? So you get that, plus an extra battery and charger. The mini HDMI cable is something you might find useful, and chances are you don't have one on hand. Things kind of go downhill from there, but in general it's all useful stuff.
Most hilariously bad part of the package was the screen saver. After cutting it out and applying it to my LCD, I used the cardboard squeegee to start removing the vast array of bubbles left behind. The cardboard left scratches on the surface of the screen saver! After moving just a couple of the bubbles off the screen it looked like a plowed field. If there is ever a case of a product not doing what it purports to do, this is it. I replaced it with a Duracell screen protector from Office Max which did the job quite nicely.
