My first part delivered was actually DOA, but with the research I put into this I still thought it was my best option. So I ordered another (previous was refunded without issue).Second one has worked great. I am getting really good speed from usb 3.0 on Macbook Pro Retina. Right around 100 MB/S (I ran a test a few times and they came in 96 was my low and 104 was the high). Reformatted to mac fine (originally a FAT format). Actually, the first few test using FAT were fast as well.Overall, I love the cord holder in the housing. Eases the need for carrying more and more cords. Use with the small cord is easy on a desktop work area. The drive sits right next to your computer very clean. Lap use with the short cord is much harder, so I am glad they give a second full length cord in the package that I leave at home for couch use.All in all, a great addition, especially for a usb3 added drive for someone with a smaller SSD internal drive.

This drive is faster than all my other 1TB drives. You cannot use a standard male/female USB cable with it but it comes with 2 of it's own. The cables it comes with are one of the things that make it faster. I'm clumbsy so need a drive that can stand up to that.

I waited to write my review, since others mentioned a very short life span. I've been using this drive constantly for six months now, both at home and on the go. It is quiet, provides fairly fast transfers, inexpensive, and is reliable (at least mine is). I use mine to store mostly movies. It's great... I can use it on my desktop, or quickly remove it to take with me and watch movies on my netbook. I've got this one 3/4 full, so I'm getting ready to order a second. My only problem is that Silicon Power doesn't offer 2T or 3T drives.

Great product I have dropped mine many times mainly onto hard surfaces metal table or concrete floor and have had no issues with it. I use mine very often also and it works perfectly. Very happy with it.

The Silicon Power A80 combined with a USB3 is an incredibly fast read/write drive. It is well constructed and so far totally silent in running. My reason for 4 instead of 5 stars deals with the software package. If you intend on using this as a backup hard drive you will probably end up using your own back up software rather than their downloadable SP Widget programs. I found it too limited on a number of fronts. With their software: you can not password protect just the A80 (you have to lock both your computer and the A80); there is no incremental backup option; there is no one button backup. After talking with their tech support who confirmed these were not possible on the A80 but were possible with some of their other hard drives, I dumped their software and used my own back up software. However I find this a reasonable trade off for the ruggedness of the A80. Hopefully down the road Silicon Power will offer a better full function back up software to use with this unit.

I used to carry in my bag external hard drives with much thinner casings and with the odd stuff I usually carry it has put dents in the casing.My first Silicon Power drive died on me after 29 days.......thank Goodness it wasn't 31 days. I exchanged it for a new one. This one seems to be holding up and I havent taken it on the road yet. I use it strictly as a back up for half of it and data for the other half. It has been sitting on my desk and so far is doing what it is supposed to do.I think it is an excellent drive. The interface probably died on the previous one. Hopefully it does not happen again.

Work great, Usb 3.0 and it powers through the usb so no external power supplies needed. Cant go wrong with this HD.
