I got this camera as a backup for my Nikon D300, and I find myself using it even more than I expected. It's more compact than the D300, has the same great low noise sensor, shoots at about the same frame rate in burst mode (although you can't attach the MB-D10, which upgrades my D300 to 8 frames per second) and has most of the same menu options as the D300. Plus it has movie-making capabilities!Unfortunately, the moviemaking is not as good as it should be, so don't buy this camera just for that. But for less than $1000, it's a great bargain for what you get. Image quality is wonderful, and it's easy to use. This is a perfect camera for ambitious beginners or anyone who already has a D300 or who wants to upgrade from an older Nikon digital SLR camera.

Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)I had a D80, and I ruined it on a fishing trip to Canada. Decided to upgrade, and WOW is it an upgrade. The pictures are so much clearer (I'm using the same lens)and the screen is clear enough to make very fine adjustments. If you are debating between the D80 and D90, go with the D90. It is worth the bucks. Great flash built in too.

I love all of the features of the D90. I was disappointed with the seemingly limited-selection of lenses that were available with the D40, which was the main reason that I got the D90 instead. I really enjoy the screen on top of the camera, it is a lot easier to see settings at a glance. For my level of photography interest, I don't think that I will ever outgrow this camera.The only problem I have had so far with this camera is that when I am trying to hold the camera with just my right hand, often times the palm of my hand opens up the door to the data card. I just hope that it never happens at a time when the camera is processing an image. I wish it had some sort of lock on it.

I am a complete amateur with no desire to enter into the professional world. I just want to take great pics of my kids. I LOVE this camera!!!!! I use the auto setting and the pics are unbelievable. From the moment I picked it up out of the box (literally) it has surpassed all my expectations and I've captured some truly amazing shots. My point-and-shoot (canon sd1100 which I still keep in my purse for snapshots) maybe, maybe would have been fast enough to catch the same look on my kids faces, but the depth of field and color from the d90 are just breathtaking.I'm sure if I learned to use all the settings I could do even more. And eventually I will, because it does seem pretty easy to navigate the menus and the buttons are all pretty clear. For now, I just wanted to move up to a higher image quality from the point-and-shoots, and the entry level DSLRs felt too plasticy and cheap for their price. This does not. It is still plastic, but feels solid, not like I could break it with too tight a grip.The only real problem I had with it was the shoulder strap was ugly and uncomfortable. I found a really nice replacement strap at a camera store for about $15.So if you are an amateur just looking for something better than what's available on the point-and-shoot market, this is a very useable, non-intimidating camera that will suit you needs.

This is my first SLR digital, having owned several small Canon's digital camera's. I bought the Nikon because of the interchangability of many of their older lenses and other customers and professionals evaluations.The menu system and LCD on rear of camera are excellent. I recommend a UV filter for lense protection and electronic remote.

This is an amazing camera. Photos are of extreme high quality. Settings are easy. I just love it.The only negative that i can think of is the video quality - it is not comparable to the camcorders.Rest all awesome.. i go with 5 stars for this beauty.

I just upgraded from the D80 to the D90, and have to admit I love everything about this camera. I take thousands of pictures a year and while the d80 has served me well, there have been times when I needed a video camera, and I now have a camera that can do this.It is light, quick and well made. It works with every lens that I purchased for the D80 and the minor upgrade in pixel quality is perfect.While it isnt the top of the line Nikon Camera, I also didnt feel the need to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on said camera when this camera is perfect for 99% of people out there. Ive taken wedding photos, family photos, short family interviews, nature photos, sporting photos, action photos, you name it and I probably have taken it, and it has yet to fail me.Great camera and worth the price, but like any camera the photos are only as good as the person taking them.. so read your manual, take a class and think about the photo before you take it.

I bought this camera to replace a Nikon F80 Film type SLR. I own a Panasonic DMC-LX2 digital camera but greatly missed the viewfinder. With all the manufacturers putting effort into liveview, I wondered if the viewfinder was getting ignored. I looked at a number of DSLR's and found the D90 to have a large and bright viewfinder. The irony is that the LCD is probably the industry leader for high quality liveview composing (although it is slow to focus). That said, this camera behaves just like the 35mm it replaces with the instant gratification of Digital capture. a 4gig card and a single battery charge are enough to capture well over 500 photos....Great for a short vacations worth of high quality pix

I have done a ton of research before getting this camera. And I am not disappointed. I have been using the D90 for more than 6 months and picture output is superb. The D90 has so many features, I highly recommend spending some time with the manual. I am not a pro photographer, but you don't need to be one to use it.The HD video quality is great, although I wouldn't get it because of the video feature, but it is a welcome plus. The lens that is bundled with the purchase (18-105mm) is a real good one about $350 by itself, not a cheap one like they bundle with D40, not sure about the bundled one with the D60.I only focused on sticking with the Nikon Brand as I already had Nikon lenses and wanted to use them. Just do the research on compatibility if you have Nikon lenses, sometimes older lenses will work only in manual mode with the new digital ones. From my research I found that Nikon has slightly better priced lenses than Canon.

A technological improvement over my D200. The HD video is fun and works well. The buffer isn't quite fast enough or large enough for really fast shooting. Other than that, great.

After fully researching on DC reviews allaround best source of independent testing.Nikon D90 lived up to its review. Best digital in its class of under 1k cameras.Sharp clean photos very low noise at high ISO.

I bought this dSLR after reading a bunch of positive reviews online. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase. As others have mentioned, it's not perfect, but it's probably the best available right now in this price range.This is my first dSLR and I was impressed with how quickly I was able to jump in and start using it. You can get excellent images right out of the box using the Auto or scene modes. I took it to the USC football game last weekend and was able to get great shots using in Action mode. The images were very sharp, noise free, and because of the 12.3MP resolution, I was able to crop them while still having plenty to work with.The movie mode is very cool, but the limitations (no autofocus, 5 minute limit for HD) are a bit annoying. It's definitely not a replacement for an HD camcorder, but it's good enough for general purpose.The lens is nice because it's light and compact, but the 18-200mm lens would be a lot more useful. I'll probably end up either buying that or the 70-300mm lens so I can get close-up shots.I'd highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a dSLR in this price range. Even if it's your first dSLR, you'll be able to get great shots with it out of the box, and as many users have pointed out, image quality is nearly on par with the more expensive D300. I kept postponing my dSLR purchase because they kept getting better and cheaper, but this one was intriguing enough to make me bite the bullet.

My review:I like it. The reasons are:It has a brain that automatically adjusts for contrast.It generates the best jpeg images of any brand.The battery lasts 3 times longer than if it were in the D200.It's a tad smaller than the D200, and lighter.In-camera "D-Lighting" adjustments possible for each photo, which pulls out details in the shadows, and pulls down highlights that would normally block out in extremely bright light.Slightly more sensitive in low-light.Since it's newer, it has slightly better image quality than the D300. Has superior image quality than the D200.Uses SD, SDHC memory cards that are much smaller than CF cards.It is all the camera one needs for photographs up to 5 feet wide.I've used it professionally: it is dependable.Automatic program mode makes the D90 useable for beginners.The ergonomic handling is perfect for small adult hands.High-quality plastic body is tough and corrosion-proof. Should last many decades.Can use most of the old, manual-focus Nikon lenses and other brands that have the Nikon bayonet mount.Can accept a T-mount adapter for lenses that are T-mount.Can accept an M39 (Leica screwmount) adapter for M39/LTM lenses (makes the lens a macro lens).The D90 is a fraction of the price of a D300.Carl Zeiss makes lenses for the Nikon digital slrs.

This is my first Digital SLR and guess I got really lucky with my pick. I usually make mistakes on first purchases of a product, but wow, this is one great camera. I don't really feel worthy to comment on such a sophisticated camera being only an amateur photographer, but what the heck, why not. I'm not going to comment on all the features since enough has been said about them, but the video feature makes you work in focusing, in a good way, makes you feel like you're filming actual movie clips.I did however have an issue and wanted to share that experience. After about 2 months after I got this, every now and then I'd get strange messages like F--- and ERR and it wouldn't let me shoot. If I took the battery out and put it back in, that worked but it got to a point where even that didn't work. I obviously panicked and called Nikon support because it was over the 30 day return period for Amazon. Let me add that Nikon support is quick, knowledgeable and friendly. They asked me to release the lens and reattach and bingo, that fixed it. Something with the seating of the lens.

I have been using this camera from last 2 weeks and the pictures are amazing. I was never interested in DSLR HD video but it is nice to have. If you can spend couple of hundreds i would suggest u should go for D90 instead in D3000. It works really well with nikon 16-85mm lens and 35mm lens for indoors.

I wish I had read further down in these reviews before buying this camera, because I wasn't aware of the problem people have had with the bad connection between the camera body and the kit lens. As a result, I was stymied and frustrated when the f-- error started appearing.Not knowing what was causing the error, I started popping out the battery and putting it back in, which occasionally seemed to work. Or I would start shaking the camera, which also occasionally seemed to work, but I knew wasn't good for the camera.Now I just twist the lens at the mount a bit, which usually does the trick. But I agree with the other posters that this shouldn't be happening on a $1,200 camera with its own kit lens.Other than that (and the minor disappointment of no automatic focus on video) this is a great camera.

I got this camera about a month ago, and just love it. It doesn't just take pictures, it does video, which is sooo cool. You can also put it on commander mode, and use a sb600 speed light and use it for strobe lighting. A lot of great features, and all the essential options are outside the camera, so you can change them at the click of a button or dial.The quality of the images are also very clean. But this will be my last nikon camera, I will probably not upgrade from here, because my next purchase is going to be a hasselblad, medium format camera. But Love Nikon.

I did alot of reaserch before i chose this camera. And i am so glad i did. It is everything the articals and amazon told me it would be.I am a amiture photographer and love shooting outside. I could not have chosen a better camera. I love that with the lens you can be in Auto mode (for regular family photos) and then change to manual (for the great art shots) I am very happy with this camera.Just remember it is like a set of lego's. you always want more! Another lens or another filter or a different strap. Try and pace yourself and see what other people have before you get sucked into the Photographers black hole of buying equipment.

I have always owned a compact camera all my life and I remember when I was a youngster seeing all those 35mm cameras at the store but I finally was convinced into buying the D90. The quality of the pictures are amazing and the D90 does not dissapoint. I have the camera for a month now and I took it downtown to see for myself what this bigger sensor can do for me. This sensor is bigger than the one in a camcorder so the movie function is more clear than a camcorder. It captures more light if you want to see the evidence for yourself go to the nikon usa website. They have comparisons there. The pictures have a clarity I never could get with my compact and if you shoot in raw you can use with capture nx2 which is the nikon software to do editing and fixing. I love nx2 as it gives that perfect look to my shots. The video function does not have autofocus and I believe it will come in the next generation but I couldn't wait. I can now have the power of the two worlds in my hands- video and pictures in a professional camera. I am very happy with it and I plan on owning it for the next five years. I even bought a 5 year extended warranty. I love it. I just wish I owned it in all my past travels.

I own the D80 and D40 and love them both. The D90 is just an outstanding camera in so many ways. What I like the most about this camera is the ease of use. It is by far the easiest camera in the Nikon line yet. The large LCD screen allows me to see exactly what I am doing at all times. For me, over 40 years old, I have a hard time seeing the small top mounted LCD so I love this large one in back. The navigation is so well done and you can navigate all your important settings with a few simple clicks. As for the actual photos....it's a Nikon - so they are great! My only word of caution is to beware of the high ISO capability of this camera. At 3200 ISO I personally do not like the quality of my indoor low light photos of people. The colors are very harsh. So I set it to a max of 1600 when I'm shooting people and I get much better looking images. Other than that it is a great camera. In all honesty the D40 takes just as good of pictures, but the D90 is more fun to use. So if you love your gadgets get this camera you won't be sorry. If money is a primary concern, then go with the D40; it's a great low cost camera -for $550 with two kitted lenses you can't go wrong. If you are eying a D80, then get the D90 instead as it is well worth the extra money.

I've had a D100 for 6 year's now and really loved it. Now that I am pretty familiar with using a DSLR, I just couldnt hold back on upgrading it to a D90 and it was worth it. This camera is simply amazing. I am not use to being able to take a shot especially when shooting in low light conditions.

I bought the D90 literally one week before I headed to Africa on a safari. I was torn between the Canon Rebel XSi and the D90 but ultimately liked the ergonomics of the Nikon and thought the video feature was huge plus since I didn;t want to lug a camcorder with me. I was not disappointed. Though I have been a Canon user most of my days, it was not difficult to make the switch even given the brief time I had give myself to get familiar with the new camera. In many ways I found it to be more intuitive and user-friendly than the Canon. I returned only days ago from safari and on first viewing the pictures look great -- sharp, vibrant, great contrast -- even the phots taken late in the day and into the evening. As for the video, I am generally very pleased with the results. The only problem is that the lack of continuous AF in video mode meant that animals were walking in and out of focus, and I find that manually focusing while in live view is touchy at best. But that's a quibble. One issue that I encountered is that on at least 3 occasions during normal use, the camera would freeze up, with a flashing "ERR" message and [CHA] in the brackets. The only way to unfreeze the camera was essentially to reboot it by quickly removing and re-inserting the battery. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I will need to have it checked. Overall, I'm thrilled with the D90 and a new covert to Nikon.

I bought the D90 in November, while shooting a wedding in January the flash stopped working. I had to send it in (at my cost). They received it on 2/5/09 and have had it ever since on a PARTS HOLD. They will not expedite, they will not replace the camera, I have 2 weddings in March to shoot and I will not have my camera back to use. After all the money I spent and my loyalty to Nikon, I am just so disappointed in their customer service and inabilty/unwillingness to help me out and get this moving faster. They said they only "repair" things. Well why did it break after only 2 months? That doesn't sound like a very good product to me. They should stand behind it and send me a new one if the parts aren't avaialable for WEEKS (4+ weeks now and still on HOLD), I'm just shocked at how they will not work with me. I've tried to be very patient and it just hasn't worked and I still don't have my camera back from Nikon.

So far am in love with this camera,I had the D60 for about a year. I like the 18-105 lens better than 18-55, good general reach, great sharp pictures. Was looking at D5000, was not sure I should spend extra money for D90, glad now i did, its a lot of camera. It will take a while to learn all the things it can do.
