This was my first digital SLR, and it is SO easy to use, and takes great pictures. However, I should have listened to other advice, as I returned it - and Amazon gave me a full refund, yaay Amazon - because I am getting the same camera with the 18-200 mm lens. The 105 is fine, no issues other than the zoom is just not quite long enough.I found the D90 easy to set up, easy and intuitive to use the button functions on the camera without going into the menus, even to do some basic manual adjustments. Glad I decided on it rather than the Canon. The shutter speed is great, caught lots of good action shots, exposure was good except for user error, rear lcd screen very clear and nice, flash great - can't wait to get my new one with the better lens!

I love this camera! Easy to use and it takes excellent pictures. I recommend getting a 50mm 1.8 lens in addition to the "kit" zoom lens. Because the camera is not a "full frame" the 50mm acts like a portrait lens and takes awesome portrait pictures.

This is my first digital SLR camera. I love the way it makes your friends jealous. the low-light shots are low noise, and when used along with the SB-600 flash it takes killer flash shots. I really LOVE this camera, and find it easy for beginners (in AUTO mode anyone can get great pictures.) But it is also fantastically full of features for the experienced photographer. The commander mode (wireless flash) lets you move your SB-600 away from the camera for nice shadows and awesome portraits. the 18-105 lens is good if you only have one lens. I even know faithful Canon owners that would like to try out this Nikon. My pictures finally look very very good. I think you have to go pro to beat this one.

I upgraded to the D90 after using the D60 for a couple weeks. I had high expectations, but I was blown away when I put my hands on this body. The size, construction and control placement stood out immediately. This is a true photographer's camera, and it makes the D60 feel like a starter DSLR (which it is).I'm just getting started with DSLR (I had a good, non-interchangable Olympus digital, and a great Minolta film SLR), so I wasn't sure if I'd use half the features of the D90. After a week, I'm finding all of the functionality to be exceptionally helpful. I'd lose so much with the D60 compared to this body.I also ordered the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras and WOW! My first day of shooting in the house, I had a dozen fantastic portraits of my daughter and wife with unreal bokeh!If you are thinking of stepping up, and you want to have more fun, and get the kind of shots you'd place in a frame, don't hesitate for a second. BTW, the low light capabilities are impressive. You can easily use ISO 1600 and even 3200 for prints. Couple that with a fast lens, and you don't need to flash your kid indoors.

I stepped up to the D90 from the D40x, I simply love this camera, low light bright light it performs up to task. Most everything is covered in other reviews so I will leave it that.

Had my D90 approx one month, shot over 1000 pictures, many on Kuai (Hawaii's most scenic island) and am amazed at it's capabilities. The movie-mode does not interest me, but the other capabilities are truly of professional quality.One small complaint though, is that the memory card access door frequently get inadvertantly bumped open, being located right on the right hand grip of the camera. As I predicted, it eventually broke off when I wasn't aware it was open and pulled it out of the case. $45 later, it's good as new, and now has a piece of gaffers tape over the door when in the field.I let a friend borrow this camera basically as an expensive point-and-shoot, leaving it on the Auto-mode, and it never gave up a bad shot! Amazing metering, focusing, and all around ability.Definately five stars, even though they could put a D300 style door to prevent the above problem at little added cost, I'm sure.

I bought this camera and used it for a trip. After that I did not really used much. When I used it recently it is not working any more. LCD just does not show any thing. No picture, NO menu and nothing is visible. I called customer service. They made to ship at my expense. I shipped it 3 weeks ago. I called customer service and they still say it is under repair. They do not have any estimate for service. When I press, They say they will escalate it if I call next week. BAD customer service. and BAD product. My friend bought this camera and his broke in one week. So he returned it.

This is not my first camera, but it is my first Digital SLR and it provides everything any of the previous offered or lacked. It is only worth the money if you are serious enough to explore all its features and learn how to use them quickly when you need them. It has re-ignited my interest in photography and gives me the tools to correctly expose difficult scenes.There are options to cover all situations. In the past I know I should have bracketed exposures, but did not spend the time. NO excuse with this camera. Previous cameras were limited to 24, 36, or 100 exposures per media, but here a 8gb card will allow for 520 RAW(NEF) exposures or thousands of JPEGs your choice.Excellent operation, exterior finish, and produces exceptional photos. I have coupled it with the NIKON AFS 18mm-200mm lens. It is still lighter and more compact then my previous SLR's with smaller zoom lenses.

I had a 12 MP Digital Canon Rebel for about 6 months before someone stole it. I really liked that camera a lot and considered buying another one, but the lens on this Nikon was capable of so much more so I bought it instead. The Nikon is more precise and feels more stable. I definitely like the Nikon more. I just recently bought a nice flash for it and my pictures are amazing.The lens on this camera is my favorite thing. It has so much range for a single lens. I am not a professional, so I don't want to carry around different lenses for different shots. The lens on this camera is all I'll ever need.

The camera performs as expected. The kit lens is really a cheap one. The mounting ring of the lens is made of plastic. That plastic ring was very fragile and can be easily damaged, leaving the whole lens unusable. That happened to mine. I could not but buy a new lens. But later, I found that you could buy a mounting ring from network for about $10. I purchased the ring, used it to replace the one on that kit lens, all was fine now. The new lens I purchased was returned.

I have had a D200 for almost 2 years and like the camera..Now having owned a D 90 for one week. The only images I use are JPEGs. I have not used RAW so my opinion is just for the JPG images only.I have taken apx 500 images on the D90 and find it's results so much better then my D 200. Yes...the D 90 is not built like a tank as the D200 is and is not as heavy either ( 7 oz smaller in weight)..but thats where it ends..This is only my opinion...as technology moves forward..My main camera which I still use to this very day is my 35mm Nikon FTN from 1969. I am from the old school where there is nothing like film. Trying to enter the modern times and backing up (Scanning )all of my old negatives and slides onto disc's for safe keeping...I have been coming around to some of the advantages of digital...such as not having to mix chemicals for developing or worrying about heat distorting the color balance of film and of course the instant gratifacation of seeing your images on the LCD and working with them on photoshop...But i am amazed at how well this cmos sensor and lite weight of this D90makes it a great camera to lug around. Of course...give Nikon a few months and their 16 Meg SLR will be released. It seems like a race between Nikon & Canon and these folks probably have the next 2 years of technology sitting on a shelf...releasing them as the calender year moves forward..Who Knows!!

This camera is near perfect. My description of the camera is that it is a great for photos, but has poor video features.THE GOOD: For taking pictures fast this camera is amazing. The clarity of pictures is also superb. My pictures come out looking pro almost every time. I could not be happier than I am with the photo quality of this camera. Also, this camera feels really well built. It Feels sturdy and feels great in my hands.THE BAD: If you were making the choice to buy this camera because it has high def video capability, you should think again. You can focus before you start the shoot automatically; however, once you start to shoot, if you want to change focus you have to do so manually which can make for some blurry sections of video. Again, there is no autofocus mode on this camera which was a little surprising to me because in other ways this camera is so well perfectOverall; however, I am still very pleased with this camera.

I have a Nikon D80 and was looking to upgrade my camera. I tried the D300 and the D90. The D300 weighed a little too much for me, being petite and having small hands. So I decided on the D90. I can't speak highly enough about this camera! Normally people say don't upgrade the body, just get the best glass you can buy. But in this case, many professionals told me that the upgrade to the CMOS sensor alone was worth it to upgrade the camera. They were right. I am able to get very low light shots using high ISO that I could never have gotten from my D80 -- at least not without a lot of noise rendering the photo almost useless. I love the D90 and highly recommend it. Don't get me wrong, I still like my D80. But I love my D90! :)

After several weeks of researching the Nikon D90, D40 and the Canon 50D and Rebel XSi I turned my attention to lenses and began to covet the Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. So with that as the starting point, then the choice was D90 or D40. While the D40 is an incredible deal right now (see [...]) I went ahead and bought the D90.First use of the D90 was taking night photos of the Capitol Building and Capitol Christmas tree. Remarkably crisp photos of the dome and tree and then of the giant wreaths at Union Station. And without a tripod! All night shots and all out of reach of my beloved and much-used Canon SD700. In the week since I am delighted with the vibrant color and sharply focused sunset shots, malards and my dog. So far I'm mostly shooting in the "Auto" mode and am experimenting a little with manual. Still have to plow through the user's manual. I find the LCD menus mostly intuitive. Also bought the SB400 flash (and rechargeable AA batteries), an extra battery, Hoya UV filter, LowePro 1 Topload Zoom Bag, Lowe chest harness, 8 gig SD card.Fantastic camera, I am thrilled!

An excellent piece of technology. The package with 18-105mm lens is a very good start. I use the factory settings for almost 95% of shooting. Images are pretty. I retouch them in Photoshop (a digital camera and Photoshop are inseparable) - using the curve tool, which is BTW inevitable even with very expensive cameras. When you put your images on the web, you won't see the difference between pro cameras and D90. You can set three sizes. I use the largest: 4288 x 2848. Enough even for a smaller poster in very good quality. The camera's controls are very easy to learn. Even an absolute amateur can shoot good images the very first day. It is my new hobby and pet. ..because I've wasted them on point-and-shoot cameras. So many missed opportunities and grainy low light shots. No more with this camera, especially when coupled with the inexpensive 50mm/f1.8 lens. Although I am attempting to learn to fully utilize the camera, I was very concerned that just using auto mode would not work any better than a point-and-shoot. To put it mildly, I was wrong. If you are considering leaping into the DSLR world, it's worth it.

Im glad that i bought the d90.It a toss up between EOS 50d and nikon d90.It is an excellent camera.Moving up from pentax k100D which is also a very good camera too but only 6mp.They is alot to learn about the control and settings.Getting familliar with the camera but not too complicate.I love the VR len it takes good photos without blurr.I had never use the video part yet.Im not planing to use it soon.I had HD camcorder for that.(canon HV20)The battery life also very good take alot of pictures before needing to recharge.I also bought a camera grip to go with it.

I have been very pleased with my camera so far. The controls are set up in a very common-sense/easy to use manner, just a quick read through of the basics in the manual gets you off to a running start. I cant find a thing that I dont like about this camera or lens. Im also glad I opted for the 18-105 lens-it has a nice range and Ive rarely had to change it out for a larger lens.

I just got the D90 two days ago as an upgrade from my D50. It takes amazing outdoor, daytime action shots. My kids at soccer practice were crisp, frozen perfectly mid kick. When combined with a speedflash, it takes amazing bounce-flash shots--perfect clarity, beautiful colors, no shadows, natural. I haven't used it in dark settings without the speedflash...ever since I began using an external flash, I have never gone back...and I only use the SB400, but get amazing shots.The 18-105 lens is okay (I give it maybe 6 or 7 out of 10). Very light, fairly versatile, and just a hair soft maybe. I will buy the 18-200 soon just to avoid some of the lens switching. If I weren't so hyped on getting this camera I would have waited to buy "body only" with the 18-200 lens for added versatility.I don't normally do in-camera editing...I use photoshop...but this camera does some neat stuff. Correcting red-eye and picture alignment--very easy. All menu options are incredibly easy. My kids were highly amused by the fish-eye adjustment, though I doubt I will ever use that.Fits with a little extra room in the lowepro a200 slingshot with the kit lens attached.All in all, it is a JOY to take pictures with this camera. My wife is probably a little jealous that I haven't parted with it for the last 38 hours or so!

This is my first DSLR camera after having quite a few compact digital cameras. This camera can do anything you can think of. The pictures from it are very good. It is very complicated and will take me months to learn how to use all of its refinements. Luckily it has an auto mode that for the most part chooses good camera settings so that I can work my way into the learning curve. I realy like the movie mode so I can take movies without having to lug along my video camera. We were playing touch football in the backyard and it is really good at sports photography. It can take 4.5 frames a second in burst mode. It just keeps snapping away as long as you hold down the shutter. We got some really good action shots this way.The camera uses SDHC cards which are really inexpensive. I bought an 8GB card for about $18 which holds about 1600 fine JPEG shots (highest picture quality below RAW format).

I purchased this camera in April 2009. It takes great images. much better than my previous D80. The quality of the images are the same as the D300 without the bigger price or heavier weight. However, i noticed that every now and then i have to restart the camera when utilizing the auto focus. Usually happens when i'm zooming in and out or when adjusting the Nikon SB600 flash to bounce light. I'm assuming it's a firmware issue. It doesn't happen all the time. Other than that I think its a great camera and plan on keeping it for a long time.

This is my first "real" camera from the world of point and shoot cameras. I finally made the jump when I discovered that my trusty panasonic lumix could not keep up the antics of my [...] son.Having no real background in photography it was necessary that we choose a camera that was not only fast and versatile but was also as easy to use as our trusty P&S cameras.The D90 is such a beast. It's relatively fast at 4.5 fps so it can grab those shots of my son whirling about but as it's more of a "prosumer" camera than the D300, the pre-programmed shoot modes made it a breeze to use right out of the box. This ease of use made it much easier for me to learn how to use the camera more as it was intended.When I consider the ease of use along with features such as the excellent noise control in low light shooting and the excellent nikkor lens selection and availability I'm very happy with my purchase and easily recommend this camera to anyone looking to get a start in this hobby.
