Well this is my 1st DSLR so I don't have much to compare to, but what a great camera! Just make sure you buy a book or DVD on the D90 camera and DSLR's, I did and watched them about 10 times. Once I got a grasp on how this machine works I began to feel comfortable taking pictures without my manual in hand, and let me say that we have been able to get some incredible pictures. I love the kit lense, no issues with it. I also bought a 55 mm lense, great for close up pics with a low apeture. I bought the Nikon 1.8f, it was only around $100, but highly recommended. You will love this camera, but make sure you grab a DVD and book in addition to the user manual!!

this is my first DSLR, I was thinking many days between canon vs. nikon. decided to go with nikon. why?hmmm because i can't say which one is better? i decided to get nikon this time maybe canon for next camera.this camera works great there are many things to you have to read about to use this one right. it looks like default image setting is bit blurr than other cameras. but you can adjust it all and there are so many things you need to study about.i think this is great camera and i enjoying it every moments.

There is not much else I can add to the many reviews already out there regarding this truly excellent camera. It takes incredible pictures, it is super sharp, fast 4.5 fps, 720 HD video mode, NIKON build and quality, Excellent display, very flexible platform. This camera will get as detailed and as manual control as you want and also do fully automatic as well. I love it and am extremely happy with it.Get the camera you won't be sorry. This camera is so much more advanced and beyond my old Nikon D50 DSLR I hardly shoot it anymore. You want it, you know it, just buy it, you won't be sorry.

Strengths:Fast 11-Point Focus; Great Low Light Performance; Sharp LCD Screen; HD Video; Long Battery Life; Size; Solid Build;Weaknesses:Heavy for its 'compact' size'; Backlight on the Control Panel LCD Screen (on the right top of the unit) not bright enough; A bit cumbersome to activate "Timer".A camera that packs a big punch but without the bulk of the average sized DSLR. The body is smaller than the prosumer/professional DSLR's, which is perfect for the average enthusiast/hobbyist. I mated it to a 18-250mm lens and took it on a trip recently. That was all I needed to get wide and zoom shots. I had the "Auto Mode" set most of the time and all the shots came out very nice! The few times I used "Manual Mode" to tweak the Shutter, Aperture, ISO settings, the shots were amazing.

I used to love my FE, FE2, n8008 n6006, and D50----but while I still have the FE, FE2 and D50, this one beats 'em all,hands down! It is just about the right size, and while the learning curve is a bit more than for the film bodies, I am gradually getting used to this one. It is an improvement over the d50 in playback mode and lcd size if nothing else. I have been using it as much as possible with the 18-105vr lens and sb600 flash. I get very few "discards" and am quite satisfied, enough so that I have even submitted a few images to my local camera club. Now I am lusting for the 70-300vr,,,,,will see how long I can hold out------

It is a great camera with excellent features and the typical Nikon quality. It has multiple functions, simple and advanced, which makes it the perfect camera for both beginners photographers and amateur-advanced photographers.Highly recommended!Es una gran cámara, con excelentes prestaciones y con la calidad típica de Nikon. Picture quality is amazing capturing every detail. I really like the large LCD for quickly reviewing pictures. Dials for changing settings are easy to use. Only complaint is that there is no auto focus in movie mode. Other than that I'm 100% satisfied!

Switched from the Canon Xsi to this, and the difference (for the better) is amazing.Things I love about the D90:-size is perfect, ergo is great, fits really nicely in the hands-hi res LCD screen is amazing- AF is very accurate, if a little slow (but I will take slower but accurate over faster and missed focus any day)- interface is great-lots of hard buttons on the outside (possibly too many?)-high iso noise performance is outstanding-top LCD is much better than having to solely rely on back LCDThings I don't like so much:-priced on the high end- video is pretty poor, unless you are doing studio or very controlled shoots, and you REALLY know what you are doing (I have seen some amazing videos using certain lenses with the D90 video, but for the casual videographer, I think you will get much MUCH worse results-Live View is almost worthless except maybe for macro situations. Slow slow slow, and the screen does not move. Sony has the best LV system by far on a DSLR imo.-weight...though this is a MINOR pick. It's really not that bad, but noticeably heavier than say a Canon Rebel or even the D80. If the LV and video caused the extra weight, I would be upset! ;)-almost overwhelming amount of customization and control. I have read the manual a couple of times and still do not understand all the linked menu setting changes (you change something on one submenu and you might cancel out something else that you didn't want to) This could also be a positive, but I am not sure I would recommend this camera to a first time DSLR owner. I appreciate the amount of customization, but it does make the learning curve very steep.Overall , I have to give it 5 stars for performing in spades in the area I bought it for: still pics using the viewfinder. If you are looking for the best camera in this price range with that same criteria, look no further, imo. I've tried a few and the D90 is by far the best.I even like the kit lens.UPDATE: After almost a year of ownership, I am still amazed at the technical ability of this camera. I STILL find myself shaking my head in disbelief after viewing a seemingly impossible shot in post. This is a camera I will keep until it dies.

I still have my D70 which I still love. The D90 has everything I like about the D70 plus more. The larger LCD is a big improvement. The increase in pixils is helpful when trying to extract a "picture within a picture". Had some issues with that with the 6 mp D70. Most of the buttons are familiar so that helps previous Nikon owners. My favorite new feature is the incredible upgrade in low-light situations.Overall, I'm extremely happy with the D90.

I have just purchased this NIkon D90 with 18-105 mm lens. I had an SLR many years ago and loved it. I decided to buy this one after much research and being unhappy with the digital point and shoot camera I now own. I have not had an opportunity to go out and really put it to the test, but the photos I have taken from my kitchen window are phenomenal, so I know it will not disappoint. A little heavy,but worth it for the quality of the pics! Have not yet tried the video.

Absolutely phenomenal DSLR. The sensor is more sensitive than a D300 and the camera body is much lighter. If you don't need a lot of whistles and bells, why get a D90 instead of a D300? Beats me!

The D90 was my first jump into the world of dSLR's. I have always loved taking pictures and would use a mid-range point and shoot digital camera to do so. I would then use Photoshop to enhance the pictures to make them more creative or to correct shadows, color, etc. With the D90, not only has my love of taking photos jumped to a new high, I find I have to do less "Photoshop-ing". This camera takes wonderful pictures if know how to use it. For me, it took only a few short weeks to be comfortable with aperture settings, shooting speeds, and focusing modes on the D90. Take the time to learn the camera and you will have a great experience with the D90.

After starting out with a used Nikon D70 and then upgrading to the D80 which was also used, I was torn between A used D300 and a New D90. After much research, price comparisons, and reading some of the great reviews here at Amazon, the answer was clear. Many of the controls are similar to the D80 so there were only a few areas to learn about. As a fashion/glam photographer my main subjects are models in outdoor settings. Within a week of receiving the D90 I gave it a workout in 30+ degree weather. IT performed flawlessly!! NO fogging despite it not being weather proof like the D300. The images are brilliant, vibrant, and sharp. The exposure meter seems to be dead on. A highly recommend piece of equipment!!

I purchased this camera from Amazon. But then it started giving CHA error and the camera would freeze up and each time I had to remove the battery to unfreeze. I am returning to AMAZON as NIKON was not willing to take it back. I will not purchase another NIKON product. I am buying T2I CANON instead.If you want a good product and good service, stay away from NIKON.

The D90 is a good camera that captures high resolution images as well as basic .MOV video files. The D90 is essentially a maturing of the old D70/D70s line with 12 MP sensor vice 6 MP, and a 3" LCD screen vice 2" for the D70s. The D90 has improved auto focus over the D70/D70s. The live view is not what I anticipated in that prior to taking a still image the mirror has to be released to the down position before being retracted a second time and then exposing the sensor. This obviously introduces delays and in some cases undesirable vibrations. Missing on the D90, but present on the D200, is the two step mirror up option for taking photos where the mirror is first retracted, virbations are allowed to dampen, and a second command releases the electronic shutter to capture the image. This is important for longer exposures and situations where a high magnification lens (e.g. 800-1200mm)is used on a tripod. Also missing from the D90 is a user defined time-lapse video capture mode, similar to what the Nikon P6000 provides. It would be a big benefit to include a 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 second user selectable inter-frame delay option for taking time lapse videos of flowers blossoming and other instances where time needs to be compressed. Despite the missed engineering opportunities, the D90 is a good still image camera which should provide users with many years of capturing memorable moments in their lives.

This camera is everything the reviews say. It takes fantastic pictures and is easy to use. Anyone wanting to upgrade to a more versatile and powerful camera should consider the D90.

I am a Nikon aficianado...enthusiast photographer...used since NewYear w/ 18-200mm VR II...unbeatable combination...wonderful low-light ability...very little if any noise at highest ISO settings...auto-focus is right-on...most all settings "tweakable" to your liking...really nice level of in camera photo-editing...best camera I have ever owned...will be purchasing another w/ 70-300mm VR...Amazon was the best deal...had very good combo price w/ 18-200mm at Christmas time...by the way, did I mention?, that I love this Camera & Lens...!!!

I am not a camera expert at all. I wanted to take a digital SLR class, and to do so, I needed to buy a digital SLR. I was looking at the Canons in the $650 price range.I mentioned this to a friend of mine who is a professional photographer. She said that if I had any willingness at all to spend more, I should get the Nikon D90 - that it stood alone in class - it was the only pro-quality camera that was priced as though it were not a pro camera.This is what she said "This camera is sick and does video too. You may have seen the ads for it on TV. It has these brand new Nikon sensors which are incredible at shooting at all light levels. A lot of people are saying it's technically almost the same as my five thousand dollar camera. It's the kind of camera which is making pros scared that people will not hire pros any more."A professional photographer I trust endorsing it to this level, basically telling me that it was my only option - that was enough for me. More than my analyzing a chart of what features it has and what it doesn't - things I don't understand yet. So I bought the camera and brought it to work, and a coworker's husband is a professional photographer and he said that the Nikon D90 was his backup camera and he can't tell the difference. So that makes two pros who unequivocally say it stands alone in its class.So I'm not a pro, and what I can say is that it was very easy to learn, the video quality is also actually quite good, I've been taking pictures that look great, and the battery lasts forever. Also, any of my friends who know I have a camera drool when they find out I have the Nikon D90.The short answer is this - either trust me that I've had two pros tell me what I've told you, or find a professional photographer and ask them about the Nikon D90. I'm positive that they will tell you that there's nothing comparable unless you want to spend 5 times as much.Sometimes you just want the expert to point and say - that one, that's the right choice - your only choice. Sometimes you don't want to analyze tables of features and try to make heads and tails of it.

One year ago I bought a Nikon D40 camera, 18~55mm kit lens and 55~200mm telephoto lens. It was my third digital camera, and the first SLR since the film days. Exploring its capabilities I rediscovered the fun of photography, but quickly reached its limitations:1) the 6 MP resolution limited somewhat cropping images and getting good quality prints;2) the continuous shooting speed wasn't up to my needs photographing sports, one of my main interests;3) the noise at maximum ISO setting (1600) wasn't up to my needs photographing sports and indoor shows, other of my interests;So I upgraded to the D90 and WOW! It's an amazing camera!1) the picture quality is awesome (due also to the 18~105mm kit lens, that's much better than the 18~55mm);2) you can use the ISO 1600 setting without any regrets (I don't enlarge more than A4 size);3) most settings can be done directly by the buttons, without diving into the menus; the menus themselves are very well and logically arranged and the customization (almost endless possibilities) is very easy;As a bonus I'am discovering the features related to the CLS (Creative Lighting System - I bought also a SB600 flash unit), that opens new oportunities for indoor photography of people - I loved that!Using the camera is very confortable, though it's a lot heavier than the D40.I highly recomend this camera for enthusiasts.

The Nikon D90 is a great camera. I stepped up from the D50 and am so glad I did!!! I'd recommend it to anybody who's seriously into digital photography as a hobby or even professionally.

Shutter release fails intermittently with "F--" error code, indicating a faulty connection between D90 body and lens, a Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 in this case. Web search for this error reveals that many D90 users experience this problem, with a variety of lenses. Reseating the lens 10 times or so as suggested did not eliminate the failure, so I returned the Nikon and all accessories. Very disappointing, because it worked well otherwise.

m364SDN2DNOE8R / 34709641 Length:: 1:48 MinsThis was shot on a whim in the streets of Baltimore, after 10 P.M., using only the Nikon D90 camera, plus a 17-35mm Nikkor zoom and an 80-200 one-touch Nikkor lens. No tripod or monopod were used. Watch for the venetian effect of the lamp post, I think is caused by the rolling shutter (which is the culprit in the jello effect of objects bending side to side when the camera shifts back and forth)The video can't display the image quality since they only allow 100MB or less.Pros:Good tweaking of white balanceSDHC cards getting cheaperSetting so ISO adjusts in-cameraRun and gun between video and still shootingCons:Camera compresses video too muchMono microphoneLow-quality audio recordingLack of microphone jackLack of manual control in D-MovieJello effect when panning; Venetian effect when shooting bright objectsOnly 5 minute maximum clips per recordingI wanted to try this camera to see whether it can record on-the-fly even though it has only a built-in microphone and no input jack. Yet other cameras like the Canon 5D and Lumix GH1 have mic jacks. It's clear that video needs sound, which is the most important thing; if your sound stinks, it can make video unwatchable. So I now want to sell the D90 and try the Lumix GH1.
