An excellent piece of technology. The package with 18-105mm lens is a very good start. I use the factory settings for almost 95% of shooting. Images are pretty. I retouch them in Photoshop (a digital camera and Photoshop are inseparable) - using the curve tool, which is BTW inevitable even with very expensive cameras. When you put your images on the web, you won't see the difference between pro cameras and D90. You can set three sizes. I use the largest: 4288 x 2848. Enough even for a smaller poster in very good quality. The camera's controls are very easy to learn. Even an absolute amateur can shoot good images the very first day. It is my new hobby and pet. ..because I've wasted them on point-and-shoot cameras. So many missed opportunities and grainy low light shots. No more with this camera, especially when coupled with the inexpensive 50mm/f1.8 lens. Although I am attempting to learn to fully utilize the camera, I was very concerned that just using auto mode would not work any better than a point-and-shoot. To put it mildly, I was wrong. If you are considering leaping into the DSLR world, it's worth it.

Im glad that i bought the d90.It a toss up between EOS 50d and nikon d90.It is an excellent camera.Moving up from pentax k100D which is also a very good camera too but only 6mp.They is alot to learn about the control and settings.Getting familliar with the camera but not too complicate.I love the VR len it takes good photos without blurr.I had never use the video part yet.Im not planing to use it soon.I had HD camcorder for that.(canon HV20)The battery life also very good take alot of pictures before needing to recharge.I also bought a camera grip to go with it.

I have been very pleased with my camera so far. The controls are set up in a very common-sense/easy to use manner, just a quick read through of the basics in the manual gets you off to a running start. I cant find a thing that I dont like about this camera or lens. Im also glad I opted for the 18-105 lens-it has a nice range and Ive rarely had to change it out for a larger lens.

This is my first DSLR camera after having quite a few compact digital cameras. This camera can do anything you can think of. The pictures from it are very good. It is very complicated and will take me months to learn how to use all of its refinements. Luckily it has an auto mode that for the most part chooses good camera settings so that I can work my way into the learning curve. I realy like the movie mode so I can take movies without having to lug along my video camera. We were playing touch football in the backyard and it is really good at sports photography. It can take 4.5 frames a second in burst mode. It just keeps snapping away as long as you hold down the shutter. We got some really good action shots this way.The camera uses SDHC cards which are really inexpensive. I bought an 8GB card for about $18 which holds about 1600 fine JPEG shots (highest picture quality below RAW format).

After having my D40x for a year I was interested in all I heard the D90 could do. I am very glad I moved up to the D90. I am an everyday Joe photographer. I have only had the D90 for a month but feel I made the right choice. The D90 has many more choices/features when shooting pics: Multiple exposure, bulb, more focus points, live view. The movie feature works well. I would not use it to record a wedding but it allows me to get good/fun clips of events that I would never had before unless I carried a camcorder and my camera. I know i am only using about half of what the D90 has to offer. The longer I own it, the more I learn what it can do to help me get better pics.

I used to have a Sony Alpha -- it was my first DSLR camera -- which was ok as an initial step in getting to know the basic aspects of photography. With the D90 for one month I can see how the equipment has more to offer, and the results much better than I expected.If you are thinking of buying one, go ahead, it's worth it.

Fanboy:I know the price is more then a point and shoot - but you get what you pay for. Having owned a digital camera since 1999, and those all bring little point and shoot clicker - I have accumulated around 7000 digital pictures before I bought this camera in Nov 09. I now have around 10000! In 3 months I have almost taken half the amount that I took in 9 years!Good:The image quality is outstanding. The camera body is hefty enough to feel strong buy not to heavy to use for long periods of time. Built in flash works like a champ. Battery lasts FOREVER - I think we charge weekly and shoot pictures almost everyday!Bad(If you could call it that):Lens is a built to "multitasking" - Does a bunch of things good - Not 1 thing great.Steep - steep learning curve if you want to learn and use every feature.Camera sometime freezes causing a battery removal. This happens few and far between.I couldn't recommend this more.

I'm an eighteen year old amateur who started out with a D40x last year. I've been taking a ton of photos for my school's yearbook (the biggest in the world!) and I was getting a lot more serious about photography. About 3 months ago, I decided to upgrade, mostly for the greater range of customization.I have a few friends with canons who actually suggested Nikon and I can safely say that I am MORE than satisfied with my choice to go with the D90. I LOVE it. The picture quality is great, the video (though I don't use it much) is a great feature and has amazing quality, and everything else about it is so functional.I highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants to upgrade and get a little more serious about photography!

Brand new Nikon D90 "CHR" error, camera lock up after 22 shots.Common error with Nikon.Responses point to the memory card not being approved, camera itself, or battery. Nikon said on the phone today that it's the memory card. It has to be an approved card.Jan 2010 UPDATE: Frustrating as this was, I kept the camera. Use approved card. So far no major problems. I always, always keep extra "approved cards" on hand.

I currently own a Nikon D90 w/ Nikon 16-85mm 3.5-5.6 & Sigma 50mm 1.4 and Canon 50D Ef 24-105mm F4 & Ef 16-35 F2.8, both are really great cameras. But I like the Nikon D90 more, because I don't have to spend crazy amount of money on Lens to get a "IQ" like my Canon 50D, which I spent almost 3.5K. With Nikon 16-85mm I can get really nice IQ just like my 50D. And I can also record a video clip when I need to, I found out this is somehow pretty handful sometime when I want to capture something more than just picture. Over all I prefer Nikon D90 over Canon 50D for the cost, don't get me wrong, Canon 50D does feel really solid and take really nice picture with the "L" lens too, but just too much If you want the IQ like you see on Internet or some forum.

I had the D70 and never thought I would need to upgrade soon since it did almost everything I want it to. Well, that is, until Nikon introduced cameras with more points of focus, since I hated having to recompose after I've focused due to the limited areas of focus on the D70. I hesitated on making a purchase until someone offered to buy my camera as soon I mentioned that I wanted to upgrade. I'm glad I got the D90. It's very much like the D70 but new and improved. The LCD is much bigger. And the zoom ability is so much better. More points of focus of course. It does great with higher ISO settings than the D70. I like how the D70 feels in my hands and the D90 is the same. So yes, it's a great camera for me.

Don't buy this camera until Nikon resolves the card read error and the lens error problems. These are widespread and can be quickly found - discussed in forums, etc. I just realized that there is only 45 day return period with amazon - so it looks like I will be sending back to Nikon (hope my results are better than the other reviewer here who had to return). You should be redirecting your attention to the Canons - wish I had.

I am not a photography buff, and I don't know a lot about cameras, but this camera is amazing! It has all the bells and whistles, but is extremely easy to use (with a bit of reading the manual). The pictures come out looking professional (of which I am definitely not), and I have started taking more pictures just because I enjoy using this camera so much! I have had it for 3 months, and the more I use it, the more I love it. I consider this camera an investment well worth the expense.

The "Live View" feature is not usable to take still photos. It takes several seconds to do autofocus and the shutter delay and mirror vibration are significant.When the camera is in Live View mode, the mirror is flipped up, the shutter is open. Autofocus is done through software image processing through the image sensor. It takes at least two three seconds to focus on a subject with good contrast. And often the autofocus goes into "hunting" for several more seconds before it settles down.When shutter release is pressed in Live View, the camera closes the shutter, drop the mirror then lift the mirror and open the shutter. All these actions create a long shutter delay and significant vibration.Because the mirror is held in the up position and the shutter is open in Live View, it consumes a great amount of battery charge and produces a great amount of heat for the circuit.It appears that Live View is released before the design is ready.Another problem is that Nikon changed the raw file format. Weeks after the camera is on the market, the raw image file format is still not supported by PhotoShop or Nikon's own Capture NX2.

As a very happy Nikon D80 user, I mostly bought the D90 for the Video feature. Unfortunately the Video just does NOT work well. Unless you are rock steady while hand holding the camera, you will get jumpy and distorted videos. Even while using a very good tripod you will get mixed results. Also the Video focus does not always stay locked on, so you can start in focus, and then lose it. Plus, if you are shooting Video in brite sun, it's often hard to tell if the focus has gotten locked because it's difficult to see the Video Focus lock indicator on the screen. On the plus side, I really like the new INFO button that puts the data on the top screen of the camera on to the rear screen at twice size. It's great if you need glasses to read the top screen. Also the rear screen is larger than the D80, which is very nice.The Camera has a mini HDMI output, but mine didn't come with a cable and they are tough to find right now. So you might want to buy one when you buy the camera.Other than the poor Video, I think this is a very good camera.

I'm very pleased with this camera. It shoots great images in the automatic mode and if you want to get creative with the manual modes, you won't be disappointed. Nikon offers a nice online tutorial to walk you through the camera too. The video mode is a nice feature as well. I have changed to D90 from D80 and I am very (VERY!!!) satisfied - especially Life View with Face Priority and sensor cleaning is a "must be" today.Also, the movie mode that the D90 has will be a "must be" tomorrow for all prosumer DSLRs.Other good things:+ Customizable menu,+ An info display on the LCD (not only on the panel) known from D40x and D60, which is a "must be" with the tripodIf I had to point out some weaknesses:1. JPGs are a little bit undersaturated and undersharpened with default settings, but it can be easy changed2. There is no autofocus as soon as you start movie recording - the only real mess with the D90...Try the D90 and, in the same time, you forget about your D80...

I previously owned a Nikon D70 and recently purchased the D90 kit. First the D90 camera is an excellent instrument. It's features, such as D-lighting and it's wonderful image qualities from high ISO along with good quality, lenes makes this camera a joy to own. The large screen is excellent and the menu interface is easy to use. The only down side to me is that D90's body is smaller than the D70's and feels strange, but not uncomfortable, in my hands. Nikon editing soft wear, in my honest opinion, is difficult to use and non intuitive. The kit lens would not be the first lens I would choose and have other lenes that I own. Those people complaining that an entire video program cannot be shot on the D90 are missing the point. The real breakthrough for professionals is that this still camera can be used, simply and cheaply, as a second video camera just for special scenes---fires, explosions, car crashes, crucial points in sports events, etc. You can have simultaneous coverage of very short scenes with one wide angle and one tight angle! This saves renting a second video camera with tripod, accessories, etc. And the 720x1280 frames cut in perfectly to any 720P footage you are shooting with the main camera.

The name speaks for itself! I anguished long and hard to drop this kind of money for a camera, but no regrets, other than I wish I would have waited 2 more weeks as Amazon dropped the price another $50. I did a lot of research and was glad I did as I decided to ditch the kit lens and add a much better lens to the body myself. I chose the 16-85MM VR lens and could not be happier. Solid quality all the way around. I just need to learn how to get the most out of a high tech piece of technology. Next addition to the package will be the 70-300mm VR, which will happen this week.

This is an excellent camera for serious amateur or entry level professional. However, the camera has few setting for novice DSLR users e.g. flower mode which I find pretty useless. Maybe Nikon is targeting few customers from it's coolpix range camera users but I give a star less for those extra setting.The ISO range is very good, but the metering is not always at it's best. I have shot few hundreds photos with 3F auto exposure bracketing but sometime I got all 3 shots underexposed. The metering system could have been better. Only electronic cable release is available. It should have been made a part of standard accessory.The bottom line is that the camera dose produce excellent photographs.

It is all that I expected from the camera. The video in a DSLR like this is amazing. I also bought the 18-200 mm lense, MB D80 battery pack grip and SB 600 flash, both from Nokia and suitable for this camera. Don't buy other quality accessories, rather wait and buy the right stuff. For the lenses, you may need a couple of filters, the Hoya PRO1 UV & Hoya Circular Polariser are good. The camera handles lighter than the D300, which my brother uses, but I preferred this camera because its lighter and also has video.

Even though I have had other digital cameras before ,this is the first d-slr I have owned. I am happy with the camera so far.Even though it is a little inconvenient with the size, I find that it is worth the inconvenince to make good photos. Low light situations I recommend going to manual focus. The auto focus in these situations will leave you missing the shot. Still shots in low light are no problem if on manual . Multiple fps in good light will amaze you at what you can capture. I have tried the video feature and the quality is very good ,however using the zoom while videoing is a little cumbersome. I am presently using 2 sdhd memory cards / 6 write speeds and I have no problem capturing photos even using 4 fps setting.

I upgraded from the D80, which was an upgrade from the D50. Not surprisingly, the D90 is miles ahead of both cameras. The image quality is superb. For some reason I never fell in love with my D80. It seemed to struggle with proper exposure. Strangely, my D50 didn't have that problem. But the D90 appears to get the exposure correct, most of the time. I really like the ability to adjust color saturation in-camera. The auto focus is excellent and the very fast frame rate in burst mode is great for sports shooting. The LCD screen is one of the main improvements. It is very large and bright. I'm not going to review the video mode - I didn't buy the camera for that reason. I liked the D50, tolerated the D80, but love the D90. Isn't technology progress great?

All I can say is WOW! This camera has done everything I want it to do and more. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. There are so many creative things you can do with this camera especially when you incorporate the hd movie mode which I have to say isn't as bad as I had thought although if you move it from one side to another too fast it will look sloppy. I love this camera much more than I had expected and the optical quality of the 18-105 is great as well. If you aren't sure where to go with this camera or perhaps a canon 40d or 50d this is most definitely the better choice!Happy Shooting!

I love it. I am a university student who takes photography fairly seriously as a hobby. I shoot lots of portraiture for friends and lots for fun as well. The High ISO capabilities of the D90 make it great for shooting concerts in low light. LiveView and Movie mode are slow, but who cares? I never planned on using those anyway.Overall a superb camera. Easy to use, intuitive, great results, and fun to use!

I received several errors ('CHA', 'F--') that made use of the camera impossible after 1 week of use; only way I could turn camera off was to remove batteries. Without the error, I would have rated the camera with 5 stars. If it seemed like a rare error I would have exchanged it for a replacement; however, it appears as if a non-trivial number of users have had same experience.Amazon did provide a complete refund and I'm struggling with whether to go down to a D40 or switch to Canon.

I am new to photography but this camera is making it easy to learn!! I studied for months which camera to buy, I wanted one that would allow me to be a beginner but after reading more books and websites about photography, also allow me to take more control. I LOVE IT!! The pictures are professional quality, in my opinion, and I get so many compliments on what I've taken. I would highly recommend this camera for any beginner like me.

This was my first digital SLR purchase following a history of compact digital purchases and 35mm SLR's.It arrived on my doorstep a few hours before Hurricane Ike and was a lot more welcome ! The initial impression on just recieving the box was one of quality and the camera has lived up to first impressions.The camera is a joy to use with super fast response and a really excellent LCD screen to review my efforts.I have not made more than a trial use of the HD quality video, but I saw enough of its potential to be suitably impressed.My only wish would be a for a glossier more descriptive manual to enable me to utilise more of its features without spending time coming to terms with geekish phrases and wishing for a better pair of glasses.I am glad I bought this and not Cannon Rebel !

Two day after after receiving a notice that my order had been shipped from Hobby Warehouse 1, I received an email: "We have cancelled your Amazon.com order because the seller informed us that it was placed against an unauthorized listing."The refund was delayed to my next month billing period on my credit card. How can they take my money and 2 days later tell me the ad was fake? I am sure the D90 is a great camera, but I did not receive one from my order on Amazon.

I just bought Nikon D-90 from Amazon.com about 2 weeks ago. It's great camera. I took photos on the Lunar New Year's Eve - Sunday Jan 25/2009 at a Asian temple. With this camera I enjoyed some photos taken in low light condition like that evening. I didn't have to wait as I took photos with a small digital camera. I have not tried movie yet.

I have the D90 camera (WITH 18-105MM LENS) and I love it.I am new to the SLR world and will let others write the great reviews.I would not even be writing this if it wasn't for the following product.Nikon CF-D80 Semi-Soft Case for Nikon D80 Digital SLR CamerasI just received it today and would give it 6 stars.Fits perfectly for the "Nikon D90" (Not lose and not tight)I believe it was made for the D80 and camera lens that comes with that item.I have the 18 to 105mm lens.The quality is great...could not be better...one reviewer of this item did not like it...don't know why.good material, padded just right. easy to slip camera and lens in and out.Not sure how I stumbled onto this item, but I am sure glad that I did.Item does NOT have the D80 imprinted on it..."Nikon" is imprinted on the end of the lens position.

I compared the D90 to other cameras on display in Best Buy and Circuit City. You can perform this same test easily. Take a picture with the D90 of an area across the store. Take a picture of the same area with any other SLR camera the store happens to have on hand. Zoom in on the printing in your picture. The D90 will beat all the others in its price range. You will be able to read the fine print on the D90 screen and you will be able to read the fine print in your pictures. The other cameras simply can't show as much detail. I bought the D90 body as a step up from the D40. Exposure is much better (the D40 likes to over-expose), I can now autofocus on my 50/1.4 AF-D, ISO1600 is even cleaner, and the picture controls are to die for. I didn't think it possible, but the rear LCD is much better than the D40's. I've tried the 720p video feature, but don't find it terribly useful. I've also used live view to nail large aperture focus exactly where I want it, which I don't use often, but is very handy when I need it. I was happy with the D40. The D90 is even better, and a great step up from the D40.
