This camera is simply wow!Every time I use this, I find a new feature.I have had it for a month now and it takes the best pictures ever...Simply wow!I am a new DSLR user and I had no issues learning a few tricks

I bought my D90 from a local camera store on recommendation from a friend who has a D40x. When I pointed out the significant price difference between the two, he simply said. "Buy it; it's worth the difference." And after owning the camera for a year now, I couldn't agree more with his recommendation.When we buy products and live with them awhile, our impressions may range from "sorely disappointed" to "as expected" to "pleasantly surprised." The D90 has been a very pleasant surprise -- and my expectations were high to begin with.I have used the D90 in a variety of situations including dog shows, vacation trips, weddings and receptions, and the usual family activities -- around 2500 shots taken so far. It has been completely reliable. The pictures are excellent quality -- that's a camera statement, not one about my skills.At this point, I have one lens for the D90 -- Nikon's 18-200 mm DX VR zoom. I plan to review the lens separately, but suffice it to say that it is a great all around (some say walk around) lens for the D90.There are many, many other favorable reviews here on this camera so I won't repeat much on the details here. Suffice it to say, the numbers don't lie!The D90 has a LOT of functionality. Adding function to a product increases complexity and can make it harder to use. Good product designers get around this by picking defaults such that the function doesn't require user attention unless s/he so wishes. The D90 is excellent in this regard. You can start shooting nice pictures with it in auto mode or the programmed modes fairly quickly. Moving up to the P, A, S, & M modes opens a whole new world of functions you can learn when you need or want them. Learning the D90, and photography in general, is a journey not a goal.

I upgraded from my Nikon D70 to D90 -- I shot over 4000 pictures using my D70 in Europe alone; had purchased other higher end Nikon lens so decided to go with the D90. I didn't believe the video feature was significant but soon find out that even it is not the best video camera in the world (no way...), however, because it has the video capability that's good enough, it helped me captured many important moments of my children. I matched this D90 with the Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 zoom most of the time and found it a great match. The only complain I have is the optic plus the body is a little heavy, more heavier if I attached the Nikon S600 flash. However, I rather to be ready to take beautiful pictures than have a nice pocket-able camera that takes too long to fire up each shot and ended up missing them (the moving subjects).Nice camera...

I got my camera (the D80) from a local camera store. I am not a professional but would like to some day be. I have had the camera for almost exactly 2 years and the other day I got it out to take some photos of my son and BOOM! The shutter BROKE! I have taken super good care of this camera... it has NEVER been dropped or anything, stored in my closet in a camera case. I took it into the store i got it from and they were shocked that it broke with such few shots on the camera. They called their Nikon Rep. and he said there's nothing he can do cuz it's a discontinued model!! My husband and I are poor college students with 2 small children and I have been using my camera for small on the side jobs to help with finances.... I cannot afford to pay over $300 to get this camera, that was over $1000, fixed because of shotty quality! I am beyond angry and upset about this whole thing and will NEVER EVER EVER buy ANYTHING from NIKON EVER again!!! They need to back their products... give a 3 year manufacturers warranty or something.... I paid an arm and a freakin leg for this camera! ANNOYED!!

I spent some time evaluating the various Nikon's (D90, D3000, D5000 and Canon equivalents) and settled for the D90. Ergonomically it is a larger body so my hands fit well without being much heavier.I shoot in manual mode so changing settings is a snap. Buttons versus menus for example changing ISO settings or white balance

I love it, an amazing camera just a little bit heavy but it worth to carry coz the excellent photos no one can beat it```

The D90 has the software and hardware to make any decent photographer look like a professional. While others can comment more about the technical aspects, I can tell you I only need to focus on how to set up my shots versus tinkering with the settings to pull off great photos. Set it to the applicable dial setting and run with it. Of course if you want to do more manual settings, you can.I would recommend getting a flash like the Nikon SB-600 to help with indoor shots since the on-board flash (like all on-board flashes)can create strange shadows. If you can't spring for one, just tape an index card to the flash as a diffuser.If you are looking for a great camera that is easy to use, this is the one for you.ON THE OTHER HAND...DO NOT BUY THIS FOR THE HD VIDEO CAPACITY. It is a cool little feature, but your average point-and-click probably produces better HD videos. The video quality is great on the D90, but the focus is a HUGE problem. If you are focusing on something that does not move toward or away from you very much, then it works. Other than that, forget capturing a quality movie. Because I bought it for the camera function, the HD video aspect was a bonus.

I purchased this camera after using a Nikon F3HP for over 30yrs, My F3 never let me down and this New D90 won't either. I am thouroughly impressed with it performance, I was going to buy the D300, but opted for the 90 after talking with some fellow Photographers, have A friend that has the 90 and he definitely is not gentle with it, but it contiues to perform flawlessly in all weather and conditions. Can't believe the D7000 will replace it, I hope they don't quit making the D90, I plan on using mine indefinitely.

I am a professional Wedding Photographer in New Jersey where I use the Nikon D3 pro camera. The Nikon D90 is my second camera. It has replaced the D200 and D2X as the second camera. I considered the D300, comparing the D300 to the D90. I chose the D90 for several reason. The internal processor of the D90 and D300 is just about the same, 99% of the people would not know the difference. The D300 may be faster and have more metal, but I was going for a lighter ( weight) camera that I can carry all day. The D90 has become just that. During weddings, the D3 is on a flash bracket and the D90 is probably around my neck. The quality of the photos is almost the same, the D3 having a better response to low light. The D90 blows away the D200 and D2X for low light however which is why it has replaced these two. The D90 has also become my everyday camera and my travel camera. In my travel bag are several lens however as the carry around lens, the 18 - 200. While the 18-200mm lens may not be the sharpest lens in the Nikon line up, it is certainly the most useful when you can only have one lens. I usually shoot RAW + JEG with 8GB cards and the ASUS 1201N netbook for backup of the SD cards. The limitations: 1) Not a good sport camera such as shooting soccer games - much better than a P&S but not as good as the D3. 2) Not a good cold weather camera - electronics don't work very well when the camera is below freezing in temperature, need to keep the camera warmer. 3) Not weather sealed like the D300 or D3 - need to keep it dry and away from severe dusty areas.

This camera offers a lot of possibilities for people interested in improving their photography skills. By default, the pictures turn out amazing and with a little more knowledge about the camera functions they will be even better. You need to be interested in semi-professional photography otherwise this model is a waste of money.

Absolutely Great camera. This is THAT simple. No need to say anything else!I con: video quality is extremely poor, my iPhone 4 shoots many times better quality video in fact.But I don't care, as I don't need this option in DSLR Camera. So I still give 5 Stars!

If you are about to read this review, there is a good chance that you still have no clue on which DSLR you want to buy. If you are about to read this review, you are either a loss and frustrated soul looking for some answers, or an amazon worker making sure this review is suitable for the you, the viewer. If you are reading this review, you probably have been researching your future investment for about a month or so. Reading reviews. Blogs. Crap from some guy named Ken rockwellysongibbersh (no offense to Mr.Rockwellysongibbersh). Let me cut to the chase. I was in your shoes 3 months ago. Should I get the Canon rebel vs Nikon D80, or the D80 with an 18-200mm vr lens for the same price as a Nikon D90 kit (18-105mm vr lens) or yadda yadda yadda the list could go on for ever!! I am going to finally give you my opinion after that long hook line. YOU ARE NOT A PRO. You probably just like taking pictures, and your point and shoot camera is just not giving you the ability to take those magazine cover photos. Am I right? Do yourself a favor, Stop losing sleep over a blog your read the previous day before. You obviously are curious about the Nikon D90 if you have read this far. I am seriously going to tell you what to do now. I am making the decision for you! Don't get the D80 its to old. Go to a camera store, feel the D90 it, shoot with it, love it, and crave it. Buy the Nikon D90 Kit from Amazon. Yes I said kit and amazon. That includes the 18-105mm VR lens with lens hood(to make it official). You are asking yourself "wait, I heard that the kit lens are not a good choice and that I should blah blah blah." The 18-105mm VR lens is a GREAT sharp kit lens! Don't go and buy some other lenses that you think is nice and functional (trust me you shall lose money). This is what's going to happen. You are going to get the lens and see "what you need". Yes, what you need. Do you need that extra zoom to see the top of a mountains? Do you need that portrait lens for Grandma? Do you need what ever kind of lens you can think of and then "Grow" into it. Grow. The Nikon D90 is a awesome DSLR beginner's camera. Has just enough Megapixels (Ha, maybe too much). You will not be disappointed. Don't be afraid that you don't know what you are doing. I'm sure you have a sense of what you are doing. That two months worth of research didn't expound your knowledge of a camera? Shoot with it. Your creativity will explode! I guarantee that this Nikon D90 has all the functionality you need as a beginner, novice, um someone who is sick of his/her point and shoot camera and wants that creative edge.From a concerned customer,Jacobp.s. I have owned Nikons since 1969 have had Nikon Ftn ,Nikkormat ,2002 6006 n8008,n90s , d70s, d80 , d200 d300 d90 and d700 . This one has been the worst of all ,its in the shop again for red specks on the sensor and the auto focus stopped working altogether . Then Nikon quotes me 211 bucks to fix the red specks and doesnt even mention the autofocus problem , this is this cameras second trip back to Nikon ? What happened to the legendary quality ?? we own 7 nikons and a dozen lenses , but Im looking at canon for the first time ever ,and nikon has yet to get me a correct quote ,let alone the camera back to me

I was so tired of junky point & shoot cameras! The batteries were always dead, and when they did work, they take too long to startup and the pictures were terrible to boot. I purchased the D90 because I wanted to best. Price is an indicator of quality, and you truly get what you pay for.The D90 is my first DSLR camera. I am a complete newbie and have no idea what it takes to make a good picture. I have been using it in auto-mode, and the pictures coming from it are stunning. I'm starting to learn the menus and other features, so far so good. Some of the high points of this camera are:*Excellent quality kit lens*Awesome 3" LCD screen*Excellent battery life*In-Camera picture editing*Quick button access to many functions without going through menus*Startup is *instant**Shooting is incredibly fast - ready for another shot almost instantly*Easy enough for a newbie, enough features for a pro.There are only a few negatives I can think of which are:*Big, heavy camera*Requires a commitment to learn the DSLR system*Auto focus in LiveView mode is too slow*No auto focus in movie mode*Makes you want to buy other stuff like tri-pods camera bags, and extra lenses :-)I spent a lot of time researching before deciding on the D90. The D90 is a bit spendy, but I think it's worth it. Buy the best the first time, and you won't have to upgrade later.

purchased almost a year ago and do range of outdoor shots from full sun to in the middle of the night and I have yet to be disappointed. Previous camera was Nikon film camera N65 which feels dinky and cheap compared to this one.I have banged it up a bit hiking too and have not had any issues. The quality is good enough I can see some faults with my old 70-300 mm lens (not a nikon lens). One thing i have not used is the video feature, but the live view works good when it is bright enough out. I never use it when i plan to do long night exposures out of habit so am not sure if the "job nr" will take care of any noise created from sensor heating due to having the LCD on.bythom DOT com has some excellent info on this and other Nikon cameras.

Bought this with a 18-200mm VR II nikkor (4/5 stars for that BTW) Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Nikkor Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon DX-Format Digital SLR Cameras and have not been disappointed in the least!For a DSLR, it has pretty easy controls. Once you familiarize yourself with the camera and the features you are good to go. Switching between modes and changing settings is a breeze. Pretty good retouch features too..

Excellent. I changed from Pentak. I have been used for two months now. Good picture directed from the D90 basically no need of photo editing. A device close to professional usage.Good choice

This camera has more features and capabilities than you will ever need! Fortunatley it takes great photos in automatic mode too! The 18-105 lens is useful for almost any situation. I also bought the 300 lens, but rarely use it. Before you buy a DSLR though, I suggest you consider how you will use it. My best photos are spontaneous pics taken with my Olympus Stylus 710 or Nikon Coolpix. I can always have one of these cameras with me, and can be taking pictures in an instant. The DSLRs are bulky and usually in the carrying case in the car or at home. It takes a few minutes to get it ready unless you already have it out on a picture-taking expedition. I always have one of the compacts with me, and the D90 nearby.While you are buying, I suggest you go ahead and get a good carrying case or backpack, basic UV filter to protect the lens, and a lens cleaning kit. Also suggest you go for the larger memory card...8G plus if you can.I almost went for the D5000 because it has some neat features not found on the D90, but at the end of the day I felt like the D90 was more robust, and had a better feel to it. I also considered the Canon TSi, but again felt the D90 was a better constructed camera. (the Canon lenses didn't seem to operate as smoothly or precisely as the Nikon's)I've had my D90 for a little over a month, have taken lots of great photos, and do not regret spending the extra $!

I am a serious amateur photographer. My last two cameras were already advanced compact cameras. The D90 is the first low-end professional SLR with exchangable lenses that I own. I bought the D90 along with a combination of Nikon lenses and a Nikon flash. But I want to concentrate in the camera: The D90 is smaller than the real professional ones but larger and heavier than any advanced compact. You get used to its weight tough, meaning, it is not unbearable. Take this from a 5'4" woman. Despite the additional weight, I like the camera's solid feeling. Although it delivers and it delivers well, buyers should know that it is a VERY complex little light-image computer in your hands. The menus are easy to work with and to remember; they are very logical. But there are plenty menus. I am still learning them as I learn more about digital photography in the classes I am taking. I use the Liveview but not as much as other people like to use it. The only thing I do miss is the flip off viewer of my compact cameras. I like to take pictures of my pets from the ground, and without a flip off viewer you cannot do this without laying on the groud yourself.I only buy lenses and flashes from Nikon because the camera works great with its own equipment. I have the 18-200 lens and I could not be happier with the results I get.If you are serious about moving to a bit higher level in your photography skills, this is a great camera and it could very well be the only camera you need. Cameras and lenses are expensive, so enthusiast photographers like me should pick carefully the items that actually need according to their skill level. I recommend the D90 without any reservation to serious amateur photographers.

I purchased the D90 for my wife in October of 2009. Since then, we've taken thousands of pictures and the camera has worked flawlessly every time. We are new to DSLR cameras and many of the photos have been taken using the automatic settings and they turn out great. With a little self education, the pictures got even better. The camera has always been reliable, the only problem we've ever encountered had to do with using a low grade memory card that wasn't on the list of approved cards by Nikon. If you are considering buying this camera, don't hesitate. The build quality is great, controls are easy to use, the kit lens is even decent. If you are looking for a DSLR in a decent price rang that will offer room to grow the D90 is an excellent choice.

If you want a DX sensor camera by Nikon, this is the model for you.For under $800 today (late April 2010) this camera is the best bang for the buck, less than half the price of the Nikon D300s and nearly as good a camera.The D90 is one of the odd items that is actually well worth more than the approximately $750 (body only) price. Without spending nearly twice that amount on the wonderful D300s, the D90 gives you nearly identical results. And if you're worried about price and considering the D300s, then the D90 is the right choice. If money is no object, D300s is better but not enough to warrant a credit card payment.The D90 is easy to use, and shares some of the features of the D40/D60 but one ups them with better picture quality and more control. I had a D60 and 80 percent of the time it wouldn't take a picture--that's down to about 1% with the D90 and 0 with my D300s. (I take a lot of macro shots and celestial/night images. Regular photographs are never a problem with any camera.)Would I buy it again? yes I would. Would I recommend it over say the D5000? Sure--its more of an inbetween camera (between consumer and pro) and I like that.This is the best value, today, for a Nikon DX format camera.

This camera by nikon is one of the best in its line of cameras. Unlike other models, this camera has many screens to help monitor the shutter, aperture, ect. easily and effectively. I highly recommend that you buy a battery grip so you never run out of battery! Ive worked with many other DSLR cameras and this is by far my favorite!See the quality for yourself![...]

WOW...I'm not new to Digital SLR's and Digital photography and this camera is AWESOME. My previous SLR was a Nikon D-80 and I always got great comments from family and friends on my photos, but. this D-90 is very much a big step up. The live view for me is very useful especially in shooting group pix and outdoor scenery and buildings. It gives you a true perspective of what your picture will actually look like. Also, I wear glasses so the live view helps in framing shots too. The LCD is so bright, even in outdoor use. I have only had the camera with 18 x 105 mm lens for about a month, but I am totally impressed and highly recomend the Nikon D-90 to any class of photograper,you won't be disappointed. Ronnie B
