I had the D70s before and was looking for another camera, with more mps, so that my D70s would be a backup if something happened to the first. The D90 works almost exactly the same as the 70, so there wasn't much learning I had to do for it. It has twice as many mps and takes awesome pictures. I'm so happy with my two cameras!

This is our 1st SLR & was recommended to us by a friend. The picture quality is outstanding. Since we are new to photography, we like that the auto and pre-selected settings produce awesome pictures, without much thought put into them. We can also hand the camera off to someone who's never used it, and they will take a great photo as well. The lens that came with the camera is very versatile. The camera fits very nicely into your hand. We also like the piece that protects the LCD on the back. We've had the camera about a month and have taken hundreds and hundreds of high-quality photos! Highly recommened SLR, even for beginners!

I purchased the D90 together with the Nikon 18-200 lens and was quite happy with it, but then I started to get ERROR messages and the camera would lock up. Sometimes with the infamous CHR codes, sometimes without. to get it working again, I had to remove the battery and release the lens, sometimes every 5 minutes (ouch).Looking in relevant forums, one can see that this is quite common and many people are reporting problems with the D90. in many cases it's related to bad contact of the lens, in other cases bad contact of the memory card, in other cases nothing helps...I was about to get it back and have it fixed or replaced, when it was stolen from me - now I debate with myself what would be the next one. There are problems in any such hi-tech gadget, but it seems like there are too many with the latest Nikon model - ?BTW When the camera was working for me, it produced excellent pictures.

Let me preface this entire review by saying that I am new to not only DSLR, but to SLR cameras altogether. Sorry, I'm not going to be able to go into a lot of detail about some of the ins and outs of the camera. What I'm going to do is tell you about my experiences with the camera so far.I'm learning. When I went to some photog's that I know, every one told me to get a Nikon (well, except for one Canon nut). I was told that a D40 would be a great beginners camera, but some of the things that I want to do, it would start to fail me once I got some good experience. The D80/D90 was what I wanted to get, unless I wanted to get the D300. I've been using and learning for a few months now, and I'm nothing short of impressed. I love this camera.First off, opening the box and taking the first few pictures is a breeze. And without looking at the manual, I was taking decent pictures. After reading through the manual, I started learning and the actual camera was pretty easy to pick up and learn on. Then I discovered all the editing functions on the camera. Sepia, B&W, etc. These were nice little features to throw into this camera, and its great. (Not that I have used them, but perhaps one day). Well, I got a couple 16 GB SDHC cards a few weeks ago to go on a vacation to Kennedy Space Center. With the JPEG-high and RAW pictures, about an hour of video (off and on), I shot an amazing number of pictures, and the camera never let me down. The video feature is awesome.I would highly recommend this camera based off my experiences to anyone looking to get into DSLR's and are wanting one they can grow with.

I have recently purchased the new D90 from Nikon and can honestly say this new camera is one of the best I have ever used. I was looking originally to upgrade my Nikon D200 to the new Nikon D300 and stumbled upon the new D90. I currently have a Nikon D200, D70s, D40x and a whole bunch of Nikon Glass and Flashes, all of which are completely interchangeable with this new camera! I must say that I feel that Nikon has created a giant killer (the competition, especially for Canon). When you pick the unit up you will experience a well thought out and engineered product (you should always go to a brick and mortar store to try out a camera first for proper fit in hands, feel, aesthetics, etc.). Some people have complained that the D90 is too small for their hands. I am a really big guy who has big hands and though the unit is small in my hands, it is still comfortable to use and does not feel like a plastic throw-a-way like the Canons. I have added the MB-D80 Hand Grip to the D90 for additional surface area and better controls (plus additional battery capacity) and the unit feels just as good as my larger D200 which also has the MB-D200 Hand Grip for similar reasons.Regarding the D90's exceptional features, you will not go wrong here. The camera can serve both as a new bee unit for someone starting out or for a pro/enthusiast like myself with extremely fast shutter speeds, good 11 point focus area, and the real killer is the 720P HD Video capture capability...pure cream! I am sure glad I did not spend the extra money on the D300 as the reviews of the D90 are just as good as if not better than the D300...all for a camera costing a good $900.00 less!All-in-all, a very good investment here for anyone wanting a very excellent, fast, and fun DSLR!

This is an amazing camera. It takes such a good pictures and it can make an ameteur/beginner produce better pictures then they should.I love all the controls that you have when taking the pictures. easy to use. When in "auto" mode, it is as easy as the point & shoot camera. It is fast to boot up, fast shutter so that you don't miss any moment.I was able to produce a good picture in the dark using the "manual" mode with no flash. It can actuall capture great details. The lens has a good range if you only going to have one lense. I'm planning on buying a zoom lens, perhaps the 70-300mm vr. But so far this range is good for now.I am trully amazed with this camera, and swear by Nikon products.I recomend this over the Nikon D-5000. It has more controls, Feels more solid in your hands (have the D-5000 also to play with)It maybe more camera than what you need, but you'll be happy that you have the option to do more with it.

Nikon D90This is my first Nikon. I mainly use this camera for photographing my artwork. Previously I have been using a Minolta Maxxum 7D. I decided to switch to Nikon rather than getting a Sony, which uses the Minolta lenses because I was not impressed with the Sony DSLRs. Also because I have heard nothing but good things about Nikon. Overall I really like this camera. I would rate it 4 1/2 stars, but since we can't use half stars I will round up to 5.A couple things I want to mention that I am really impressed with:-Matrix metering is really good. This camera really gets exposure right.-Flash exposure is really good too. Pop up flash or hot shoe flash. I am using the SB-600. I am really impressed. My Minolta DSLR wasn't so good with flash exposure.-Almost every function you need has a button. You don't always have to go through menus to change what you want. Although there are a few things that I wish had their own button. My small complaints about it are:-No custom modes, only the scene modes. This one is a bigger problem than I anticipated since I do my serious shooting in my studio with tungsten lights, aperture priority, iso 200, bracketing. It was much easier with a camera with custom modes to be able to turn all these things on or off at once.-Auto bracketing only brackets 3 shots.-No auto focus with movie mode. I didn't buy this camera for movie mode, but if they are going to put it in, it should have auto focus like any other camera or camcorder.-Slow focus during live view.I was aware of these things when I bought the camera, none of these were serious enough for me not to get the camera because of them. I am really glad I went with Nikon.

As a former film SLR owner, I appreciated the convenience of a point & shoot digital camera, and had been very happy with the many photos I'd taken with one over the past 8 years. Still, I had an itch to get back into the game with a DSLR. I seriously considered the D300, but opted for the D90 as a better choice for a first-time DSLR buyer. Even so, I was a bit worried that I would be overwhelmed by the D90's complexity.I needn't have worried. The D90 has proven to be simple and intuitive, despite its almost unlimited flexibility. Each day that I use it I'm impressed all over again. The in-camera RAW processing was a revelation..I was amazed at the improvements I could make in adjusting exposure and white balance. During a vacation trip in Italy, I shot some indoor pictures in poor lighting conditions that with my old point & shoot would have been worthless, but with Active-D processing, it brought out all sorts of detail in the shadows.Bottom line: the D90 has already earned a very solid reputation as a "prosumer" level camera, but even if you're a first time buyer, I wouldn't shy away from the D90.

I was in the market for a "mid-level" DSLR as my second slr, and I have to say that I'm absolutely thrilled with this camera. For me, it was either Canon or Nikon, and I just decided to go with the Nikon after testing several and reading reviews. After reading the reviews, I was a little concerned about some of the reviews with malfunctions, but, after two months, I haven't had the slightest problem, and the picture quality is fantastic. I chose the D90 over the D5000 because I didn't like the flip screen (something to break off or go wrong, and I'd read reviews about the D5000's difficult readability in bright light with the LCD. I love the balanced weight of this camera with the lens, I bought a Hoya multicoated UV filter for scratches and have loved the pictures it's produced thus far. I can't tell you the costs and benefits as much as the others, but this camera has been quiet, quick, and efficient, and produced brilliant photos for my money. For me, there are a ton of features, some of which I may never use, but the bottom line is for me, looking through the viewfinder and getting a crisp, clean shot is what it comes to, and I'm so pleased I got this combo.

I have been using my D90 for about 10 months now, and combined with the Nikon 18-200 VR zoom lens and SB-600 flash, have been able to get great pictures. If you get this camera you should really consider getting just the body and the buying the 18-200 lens separately. It is well worth the money and gives you much more versatility without having to worry about changing the lens out in the field. So many features built in to the camera that I have yet to try (although I do use the "D" lighting and "Star" effect a lot. Took a lot of night shots at Disneyland/California Adventure without flash to get the colorful lighting and decorations that came out excellent!! Recently purchased a Sigma 150-500 zoom that is dedicated for the Nikon camera, and am very pleased with my sports pictures that I have been taking.

I was waffling between the far cheaper D60 or even the Canon Rebel XSi or the Nikon D90. I finally decided on the D90 mainly due to the large veiwing screen and the size and feel of the camera. All of the professional photographers that we have used to take family photos have had Nikon, so I was already leaning towards the D60 or the D90.The Nikon D60 has a 2.5" LCD display with 230,000 pixel resolution and a 170 degree viewing angle, which means your friends can gather around behind you and everyone will see the same image quality wherever they're standing. The Nikon D90 has a high resolution 3-inch LCD screen. The 920,000-pixel display has a 170-degree viewing angle and appears to be as nice as the new screens found on the D3 and D300. It makes checking focus and using Live view mode that much more pleasant. Live view is very cool because you can see what you are taking a picture of on the screen or you can use the view finder if it is sunny outside. This is also the first digital SLR to have HD movie mode. You do have to focus in order to record a movie but this is not replacing a video camera, this is just another video recording source in case you need it while you are shooting great photos.I am so pleased with this camera. I know it was more than the Canon but the camera FEELS like it should be more than the Canon. The Nikon D90 feels like a higher end professional Digital SLR camera. The pictures I have taken so far have been worth every penny. This was a GREAT purchase and Nikon's support is fantastic. You can call 24x7 and ask any question. They will walk you through whatever you need assistance with. I have called twice now, mainly due to the fact that I did not read the directions very well.Bottom line, I would buy this camera again.

I have always been a Canon fan, but decided if I was going to make a long range investment of lenses I needed to do a lot of research and make a long term commitment. I love my choice. This camera has been everything the camera shop experts explained to me and everything I could imagine. The quality and ease of use has been excellent. I absolute love everything about this camera, except I don't know if I can keep it due to its weight. With the kit lense, I find that I can't really hold the camera for more than 1-2 minutes. Additionally, I find my wrist starting to hurt when I hold the camera in one hand while adjusting the settings with the other. This really takes the fun out of using this camera. While I can take photos with it without difficulty, reviewing pictures for any meaningful time period is an impossibility.Do you think I can get used to the weight of the camera if I perservere? I am in a tough spot because to reduce the camera weight at this point means sacrificing image quality and features. I feel that going down to Canon 500d is a significant step down, but maybe I have to do it (d5000 is not an option due to low-res screen).Any tips would be appreciated!

This is a great camera. I've been shooting with point-and-shoots for years, opting for the Canon Digital Elph line of cameras. The limitations of the point-and-shoots in action sequences, low light, or difficult lighting became too frustrating, so I finally made the plunge and bought a D-90. The camera is beautifully capable of handing all the situations I find myself in, for example hiking, at parties, cycling, and for portraits. The ability to shoot at 4.5 fps, take photos in low light, and adjust any function on the fly to try different approaches have made my experience of photography much more gratifying.

In short, this camera was extremely buggy. The shutter release would freeze up on me after I left the camera on for a minute or so. Sometimes, turning it off and on again would unfreeze it, but not consistently. Many times the auto focus worked very poorly, resulting in blurry images - worse than my compact digital camera. Because this was my first DSLR, at first, I assumed that I wasn't doing something correctly. I read the entire manual and experimented with it, but the problems persisted. I brought it back to Best Buy (where I bought the camera). Their Geek Squad is great, and someone who also owns a D90 looked at the camera with me. He was shocked that it was freezing up and couldn't explain the problem. We assumed I just got unlucky and got a lemon, so they gave me a replacement. By the next day, this brand-new camera suffered the same exact problems. I'm assuming there is some kind of firmware bug, but I got my money back. In my experimental stage, I lost tons of what could have been great photos. I'm going back to my compact camera until I can find a better DSLR.

When I finally decided to go digital I went cheap with simple point and shoots and always wanted better.I turned 60 this year and decided to treat myself and do better than point and shoot. I checked Consumer Reports and at the top of the list was the D90. The more research I did the more I kept comming back to this camera. I decided on this camera/lens combination because the 18-105mm zoom matched most of my needs all in the single lens. The bottom line is I love this camera. You can take good photos with it out of the box in auto mode. I bought the Magic Lantern guide with it and am already have taken a few great photos. The camera is pretty well weight balanced and makes shooting pretty easy. Thanks to all the folks that recomended buying a uv filter for the lens. It's definatley nice to not have to worry about dust, dirt, and scratches ruining you lens. I also was happy that the kit includes the LCD monitor cover so that it's protected. One note of caution...be careful with the strap that comes with the kit. When you put it on the camera you have to make sure that you re-feed the webbing through the buckle to secure it. I can see where if you weren't paying attention you could just feed it through the sliding keeper and think you had it secured and then later drop it. Minor but if it saves one persons new camera then it's worth saying. I can't wait to play with the camera more this summer and get to the point I'm using it to it's full potential.

This camera is currently one of the best mid range DSLRs out there. It has everything that an advanced amateur requires. It's also a great camera for a pro to use as a back up. The image quality with the 18-105 lens is brilliant and is as good if not better than it's big brother the D300.I gave this camera only 4/5 stars is because of three reasons. First, the weight. It's definitely one of the heaviest cameras in it's range. The Canons are so much lighter. Second, the battery lid is flimsy and looks like it hasn't been fixed properly. I don't know if this is the case in all their cameras or only mine. Third, it's quite expensive when compared to it's competitors. It would have been nice if this camera had been priced about 150 - 200 dollars lesser than it's current price. Do get it with the Lowepro Slingshot AW 100. It compliments the camera very well. Without a doubt Nikon has mastered the art of manufacturing the best cameras and I would strongly recommend buying this product.

I was truly surprised how much better the images looked than my point and shoot pictures even with the camera in auto. I've since moved away from auto and I'm still amazing at the image quality even at higher ISO.The D90 menus are easy to learn. I don't see myself replacing my D90 with anything other than a full frame camera body like the D3 or its replacement. My D90 is going to allow me to capturing wonderful images the precious first years of my sons life when he is born next month. My only complaint is the money it's going to cost me buying lenses and gear as I get sucked into photography.

And I have never taken another roll back to them, VACATION PHOTOS AT THAT. So when Digital Slr's started coming out, you can bet I bought me one, a Pentax ist DL about 5 or so years ago, sold it to my brother, who gave it to my Sister and brother in-law, and I bought a Nikon D40 in its place, then a Canon Rebel XSI after a year or so. then within six months of that bought a Nikon D60, then decided I would much rather have the D90, and proceeded to trade the D60 and XSI in, kept the D40 (centimental reasons) and I now have a Nikon D40 and a Nikon D90.Now what made me choose a D90? simple The HUGE 41 Custom Menu was a plus for me, 2nd the rave reviews of the picture quality, 3rd would have to the Low Noise up and down the ISO range, even at 6400 is good. 4th I would have bought me a Pentax K7 because of its huge improvement in WB mode, and other ares, but after looking at pictures from the K7 vs. pictures from the D90 at ISO 3200, no explanation was needed as to which was the winner, the D90 of course!I have compared cameras from Canon 40D and 50D and the Pictures seen at High ISO, Pentax K7, Sony A700, and each time at the High ISO 1600 or higher the D90 seemed to always win. However, I think the closest Competition for the D90 would be the Sony A700 as it seemed pictures were good at High ISO 1600 or Higher, BUT ONLY AFTER Sony done a Bug fix on the Camera with the Latest Version Upgrade V4. I will update after a couple of weeks use

We bought this camera for our son who is 23 and a talented photographer. He has an assortment of lenses and takes professional quality pics with it. It's your basic Nikon that has endless possibilities. Sonny boy loves it!

After almost a year of research and soul searching I finally jumped in and purchased the D90. It was the right decision for me because it allows for great photography in auto mode while I learn and gives me room to grow as I expand my photography skills. I waffled between the D60 and D90 for months and the decision came down to the D90s ability to work with an expanded lens selection. In making this decision I connected with a few friends also looking to buy D-SLRs. We all ended up making different decisions based on our individual needs. For me, the extra capabilities of the D90 were well worth the extra money.

I have begun taking my photography more seriously and decided to upgrade from a D50. I was not disappointed. This is an excellent camera. Buttons on the outside relate to functions that I need to change without having to go through menus like on the D40. Being a Nikon user already made it really easy to begin using the camera right out of the box. More advanced features were not difficult to learn and were pretty straight forward to pick up, making it a great model to upgrade to. The kit lens is fair, nothing special but a good piece of starter glass to go with the camera. If you have other compatible lenses and don't need anything in that range, I would recommend just buying the body only.I didn't buy this camera for the video mode and am glad I didn't. In my opinion, DSLRs should be used for stills and not try to combine video. The sound is poor and focus is manual making it quite limited. Its a nice feature to use on occasion. Even though I didn't buy it with this mode in mind these limitations prevented the D90 from getting a 5 star review.

The Nikon D90 is outstanding. My family can't believe the pictures that I'm taking since I got the camera. The camera has a lot of bells and whistles. It's takes a good time learning the camera but it's worth it. Would recommend this camera for anybody that enjoys a well constructed camera.

I'm not a professional photographer, I use my camera as a hobby. This is the first major upgrade in a digital camera for me in ten years. Yeah I know, I know. But I waited until the right camera, with the right amount of megapixels for the right price came out. I don't like buying gear every three or four years becuse I just want to have it.So why I choose this the Nikon D90 camera?I get a camera that is fast enough (very important for me) so I don't miss a shot.I want to be creative with my photgraphy, and wanted lots of features. When I need to do large poster prints, I can do that with the high 12.3MP count. (I had 3.5MP with a point and shoot before this!)It's the right size for my hands! Very important. I never see anyone address this issue when shopping for a camera. I have large hands and long fingers, a small camera is very difficult to work with and is not very comfortable. Do yourself a favor go to any store and put the camera in your hands before you buy it! Does it feel solid in your hand? Are your fingers cramped? Is it to heavy or to light? The Movie mode was the tie breaker that made the difference between Nikon D90 and the Canon 50D.The Nikon D90 is more camera than I know how to useright now, but as you will notice from other users who have bought non prosumer cameras in the past they grow out of them fast. I'll have this camera until they come out with 36MP cameras (when ever that is). I'm looking forward to having this camera for many years and building my collection of lens slowly but shurly.

This Camera is excellent, my wife has a Nikon D80 and she tells me the D90 has more functionallity, color control and the live view is excellent option. I bought separetly a lens (the 18-200 mm nikon lens) and the combination was perfect.Be carefull you need Adobe Photoshop CS3 o CS4 with camera raw updated to work with RAW Files from this camera or Nikon Capture NX, but the camera comes with ViewNX software that help you with the basics RAW file options.Other great feature is if you have parts (battery, grips, memories, flashes, etc.) from D80 camera you can use them in your D90. For the functionallity and features, its price is ok. I recomend a lot of this camera. I hope to publish photos soon. Thanks a lot

I have a D40 and a D60 and was about to purchase a D5000, but after looking at all the reviews I could find of each model, I chose to add the D90 to my collection...so glad I did. The quality is great for the price, and the pictures are amazing. I have added a wide angle (11-18) lens and I am so impressed with the results. I belong to a retro Thunderbird club, and getting 70 T-Birds in a clear concise photo was a major concern. Even large prints of the pics I took are of poster quality...which means, blown up, much detail can be seen. Great camera!
