I'm officially in love with this camera. I moved up from a Canon point and shoot. The photos I've taken so far are fantastic! The learning curve of this camera is definitely not for a beginner, but the Auto modes do help quite a bit. I've realized just how many different ways there are to royally mess up a photo!The kit lens (18-105mm) is suitable for most situations, but lacks the length to really zoom in on something far away. Macro shots work nicely with this lens, as do portraits and landscapes. Fireworks were no problem with a tripod, but shooting a wedding hand-held at dusk/twilight was too much for the slower f/3.5-5.6 lens, even with VR turned on. Had to use a flash as it got darker.My next purchase will probably be a 50mm f/1.4 prime lens for faster shots and more crisp portraits, then the 105mm Micro-Nikkor for macro shots.

I wanted a very good DSLR , looked the D300 and Canon 50D but I inclined to NIKON .Then the D90 came to the market and I was a little confused and a couldnt decide betwen both D300 and the D90The differences are just a few and I can live with out them. The body construction, SD card(D90) instead Compact flash (D300) 11 point for Auto focus instead 50 ...The price difference allows me to buy an extra battery, memory cards a good caring case, filters, different accessories and in the near future the GPS unit (I'm waiting the releasing from NIKON)The only difference that bothers me a little is that the D90 grip is a little small for me in comparison from the D300 but besides that everything is fine. For this issue you can buy the Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack, but don't think this will increase the the shoots per second you can take as in the D300, only increases the battery duration and allows you to use AA batteries, also gives you a vertical position shutter button.Very easy to use and understand ALL the functions and buttons, not complicated menus.I bought the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX (the same that comes with the D300 KIT) instead the one that comes with the with because I wanted a more powerful lens and also I read as this lens is better quality and believe me IT IS AMAZINGIf your are not pro and only want a VERY GOOD DSLR professional style this is a good and wonderful option, believe meYou'll no regret

perfect buy for a first or 2nd DSLR, the body does it all and the lens takes it further. only thing i would recommend is to buy a $5-$15 lens filter just for protection, but thats recommended for all lenses. other then that start collecting your accessories. extra batteries, SD cards and readers, cable remote, ect...the final selling feature that's over looked it the flash,it sits nice and high to get over the large lens that it ships with in the kit, unlike the d60 and d40/d40x. These cameras have lower sitting lenses due to the fact that, they do not have as much of a distance to cover to prevent lens shadow (they ship with smaller lenses in their kits)

Until now, all shots I've got have presented a great quality and diference in comparison to non-SLR cameras.The flash is really powerfull. The camera is easy to manage, you just have to spend sometime reading manuals and testing it.

WOW!I bought this camera as a replacement to an aging d40 and I'm glad I did. The D90 has wonderful color rendition if you know how to set it up right, and a far superior meter to the d40 or d80. Images are crisp, colorful and well exposed in all lighting situations I've come across so far.The one thing that worried me was the d90's plastic body, instead of magnesium like the d300. After several weeks of use however, I couldn't be more impressed with its durability. I'm tough on my cameras, and often bring them places I shouldn't. So far my d90 has been knocked off a waist high countertop onto a tile floor, been exposed to sub-0 degree faranheit temperatures, and been tossed around in a backpack for a few weeks. Happily I can say that my d90 looks and works just like new!I never thought that this degree of durability could be achieved from an SLR of this caliber, ive shot in snow and rain with it with nothing more than a rubberband around the lens mount.HD video is a bit of a novelty, but I have used it on several occasions, and it does look good.All in all the D90 is everything you'd ever need in a DSLR if you're not making a professional living from it, I would strongly recommend it to anyone!

This camera is real value for money, given the number of semi-pro features packed into it. If you are not interested in high-speed/sports photography and don't care about a rugged camera body, it is hard to imagine a better deal for a DSLR than this one.

I've had this for about four months now, and I am really enjoying this camera. It was this or the Canon XSi, which is a fine camera at a great price point. As far as image quality goes, there is not much between them. But I decided to splurge on the more expensive Nikon, and I'm glad I did. Here's why:-- It feels more sturdy and better constructed, and it feels better in my grip.-- The button layout is very useful. I am an intermediate shooter, and I like to adjust settings on manual. You can do it very quickly on the D90.-- The LCD screen is big and brilliant, with a protector.-- The viewfinder is bright and clear.-- I really like having the top LCD for settings more than relying on the screen on back to monitor settings.-- I bought a flash and I like using the onboard flash as a master.One downside is that raw images are in NEF, which the Adobe software suite doesn't handle. CaptureNX (not included) is a fine program, but it is slow on my computer and I am not sure it is better than the Adobe options. The bundled ViewNX will convert NEF but you won't get the same control over the output.My partner switches it to auto mode and has a fine time using it as a point and shoot.

Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens Ordered this June 4th and recieved it on June 5th, great service. Due to the information provided on web site and service Amazon provides is why I keep buying my items from Amazon. Thanks Amazon. This I am sure is more camera than I need. I like gagets and gizmos so I decided to spend the extra dollars this time on camera. I am learning more each day but so much to learn since I have only had point and shoot experience in the past. Thinking about taking a photography class too, should be helpful to improve my skills. Also thinking about the purchase of a larger telephoto lens.I just retired so photography will be my full time enjoyment.

So I was in love with my D90 for about 1 month, till the F-- error appeared! This was very disappointing. I have found out that many people are having the same issue. Something wrong with the camera body/lens interface. How can you accept this on a $1200 camera? Then I cleaned the contacts on the lens WITH MY THUMB!!! and that seemed to work great. It hasn't done the error since then. By the way, while this was going on, my 50mm f/1.8 nikkor lens was performing fine. When installed on camera, it feels like it sits tight unlike the kit lens.The camera scared me to death and therefore 4 stars .. but I'm back in love with it now! Its a great camera.Edit (3/26/2012): After I got over the first few hiccups with this camera, it has worked flawlessly for years now. When it was in warranty, I had to send it back to Nikon for repair. But since then, it has been nothing but love to this camera. I got rid of all the lenses I had and replaced them with a 18-200 Nikon which I been very please with except for the weight/size. But it takes real good images.Edit (4/1/2013): Still working, still loving it!

the flash does not go back after a couple uses- and Nikon does NOT pay for shipping costs to have this repaired.Whole camera is NOT worth the upgrade of (broken) D70- Viedo is useless.

This is my second DSLR, i just upgraded from a d60. The first thing i noticed was the LCD screen, it was bigger than the d60. This is a big upgrade from a d60 when i comes to features such as ISO, ease of use,image quality. My suggestion is to try it out in a retail store and see for yourself. I loved this camera so much that i did not miss my d60.

I owned a D70s. I replaced it with this camera. I am still learning, but using the automatic modes have prodused spectacular shots of my grandchildren and nature shots. I have not used the video mode. I'm not really interested with that.The large screen is a big improvement from the D70s.

I have been using this camera for about 3 months and this camera is just awesome. It takes awesome pictures straight out of the box with the 18-105mm kit lens. This lens is new from Nikon and it's quiet good actually. I especially enjoyed the wide angle that it provides even though this camera is only 1.6x!I have added a sb-400 to this camera and my flash photos are much nicer than the built-in flash but i'm not saying that the built-in flash is bad at all. Actually, the built-in flash will probably work for most of photo enthusiasts as it creates respectable flash photos in it's own right.The coloring of the photos look much true to life than the Canon 40D i have. i have compared the same photos with the same exposure and to me and my wife the photos from the D90 just looked so much natural. I guess this is due to the 12.3mp sensor that it borrowed from the awesome D300.HD videos are in good quality. I have shown them on my Samsung 1080P TV and they looked very nice except that they are in Mono sound, this is the only downside of this feature, but hey this is the world's first DSLR that can shoot HD and i know that we can make pretty creative videos using other Nikkor lens but at this time i just don't have the funds to do so!In conclusion, this is a very reasonably price machine and it's quiet affordable for the everyday photo armatures and enthusiasts.

This combination of camera and lens is very, very good. Having had a few Nikon film SLR's and lenses, I can appreciate the quality of this set. The lens is pretty sharp and covers most of what you need. The camera has many, many functions and options to take just about any picture you need. And, the resulting photos are fabulous. I took a great photo still life of a Corona beer bottle and the photo gave the glass a wonderful visual quality almost like a soap bubble. Capturing that kind of delicate detail is difficult. I wish I could have the D700 with full FX sensor, but the D90 is certainly no poor substitute. I love it.

I was going back and forth between the 90 and the 300. Obviously the 300 is a slightly more professional camera with a better frame, faster shutter, better autofocus, etc., but the D90 is so close to it and comes with a slightly better sensor and is $500 cheaper. Also, it has video. Now, before you stop reading because I mentioned that, let me make this statement. Video had nothing whatsoever to do with my decision. I had no interest in using a DSLR for video. But now that I've played with it, I think it is incredible. Now, it won't replace my camcorder but it will allow me to capture brief (<5 min) videos of things my child does that I would otherwise have to capture by switching physical cameras. The video quality if frankly amazing. The sound could be a little better, but is more than adequate. Now, on to the photography portion. The image quality between my D40x and the D90 is certainly noticeable. Pictures are clearer and more vibrant. All of the features that I used to have to access through the menu system (bracketing, image quality, burst mode, exposure, etc) are all available quickly using buttons and wheels on the camera. This is making a world of difference. The kit lens isn't the best by any stretch of the imagination but I have to be honest - it is better than I was expecting. I will try to post more as I continue to use it. But if you're considering moving up to a D90, DO IT!!! You won't regret it.

I got this camera as a backup for my Nikon D300, and I find myself using it even more than I expected. It's more compact than the D300, has the same great low noise sensor, shoots at about the same frame rate in burst mode (although you can't attach the MB-D10, which upgrades my D300 to 8 frames per second) and has most of the same menu options as the D300. Plus it has movie-making capabilities!Unfortunately, the moviemaking is not as good as it should be, so don't buy this camera just for that. But for less than $1000, it's a great bargain for what you get. Image quality is wonderful, and it's easy to use. This is a perfect camera for ambitious beginners or anyone who already has a D300 or who wants to upgrade from an older Nikon digital SLR camera.

Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)I had a D80, and I ruined it on a fishing trip to Canada. Decided to upgrade, and WOW is it an upgrade. The pictures are so much clearer (I'm using the same lens)and the screen is clear enough to make very fine adjustments. If you are debating between the D80 and D90, go with the D90. It is worth the bucks. Great flash built in too.

I love all of the features of the D90. I was disappointed with the seemingly limited-selection of lenses that were available with the D40, which was the main reason that I got the D90 instead. I really enjoy the screen on top of the camera, it is a lot easier to see settings at a glance. For my level of photography interest, I don't think that I will ever outgrow this camera.The only problem I have had so far with this camera is that when I am trying to hold the camera with just my right hand, often times the palm of my hand opens up the door to the data card. I just hope that it never happens at a time when the camera is processing an image. I wish it had some sort of lock on it.

This is my first SLR digital, having owned several small Canon's digital camera's. I bought the Nikon because of the interchangability of many of their older lenses and other customers and professionals evaluations.The menu system and LCD on rear of camera are excellent. I recommend a UV filter for lense protection and electronic remote.

I bought this camera to replace a Nikon F80 Film type SLR. I own a Panasonic DMC-LX2 digital camera but greatly missed the viewfinder. With all the manufacturers putting effort into liveview, I wondered if the viewfinder was getting ignored. I looked at a number of DSLR's and found the D90 to have a large and bright viewfinder. The irony is that the LCD is probably the industry leader for high quality liveview composing (although it is slow to focus). That said, this camera behaves just like the 35mm it replaces with the instant gratification of Digital capture. a 4gig card and a single battery charge are enough to capture well over 500 photos....Great for a short vacations worth of high quality pix

This is my first Digital SLR and guess I got really lucky with my pick. I usually make mistakes on first purchases of a product, but wow, this is one great camera. I don't really feel worthy to comment on such a sophisticated camera being only an amateur photographer, but what the heck, why not. I'm not going to comment on all the features since enough has been said about them, but the video feature makes you work in focusing, in a good way, makes you feel like you're filming actual movie clips.I did however have an issue and wanted to share that experience. After about 2 months after I got this, every now and then I'd get strange messages like F--- and ERR and it wouldn't let me shoot. If I took the battery out and put it back in, that worked but it got to a point where even that didn't work. I obviously panicked and called Nikon support because it was over the 30 day return period for Amazon. Let me add that Nikon support is quick, knowledgeable and friendly. They asked me to release the lens and reattach and bingo, that fixed it. Something with the seating of the lens.

I have been using this camera from last 2 weeks and the pictures are amazing. I was never interested in DSLR HD video but it is nice to have. If you can spend couple of hundreds i would suggest u should go for D90 instead in D3000. It works really well with nikon 16-85mm lens and 35mm lens for indoors.

I got this camera about a month ago, and just love it. It doesn't just take pictures, it does video, which is sooo cool. You can also put it on commander mode, and use a sb600 speed light and use it for strobe lighting. A lot of great features, and all the essential options are outside the camera, so you can change them at the click of a button or dial.The quality of the images are also very clean. But this will be my last nikon camera, I will probably not upgrade from here, because my next purchase is going to be a hasselblad, medium format camera. But Love Nikon.

I did alot of reaserch before i chose this camera. And i am so glad i did. It is everything the articals and amazon told me it would be.I am a amiture photographer and love shooting outside. I could not have chosen a better camera. I love that with the lens you can be in Auto mode (for regular family photos) and then change to manual (for the great art shots) I am very happy with this camera.Just remember it is like a set of lego's. you always want more! Another lens or another filter or a different strap. Try and pace yourself and see what other people have before you get sucked into the Photographers black hole of buying equipment.

I have always owned a compact camera all my life and I remember when I was a youngster seeing all those 35mm cameras at the store but I finally was convinced into buying the D90. The quality of the pictures are amazing and the D90 does not dissapoint. I have the camera for a month now and I took it downtown to see for myself what this bigger sensor can do for me. This sensor is bigger than the one in a camcorder so the movie function is more clear than a camcorder. It captures more light if you want to see the evidence for yourself go to the nikon usa website. They have comparisons there. The pictures have a clarity I never could get with my compact and if you shoot in raw you can use with capture nx2 which is the nikon software to do editing and fixing. I love nx2 as it gives that perfect look to my shots. The video function does not have autofocus and I believe it will come in the next generation but I couldn't wait. I can now have the power of the two worlds in my hands- video and pictures in a professional camera. I am very happy with it and I plan on owning it for the next five years. I even bought a 5 year extended warranty. I love it. I just wish I owned it in all my past travels.

I own the D80 and D40 and love them both. The D90 is just an outstanding camera in so many ways. What I like the most about this camera is the ease of use. It is by far the easiest camera in the Nikon line yet. The large LCD screen allows me to see exactly what I am doing at all times. For me, over 40 years old, I have a hard time seeing the small top mounted LCD so I love this large one in back. The navigation is so well done and you can navigate all your important settings with a few simple clicks. As for the actual photos....it's a Nikon - so they are great! My only word of caution is to beware of the high ISO capability of this camera. At 3200 ISO I personally do not like the quality of my indoor low light photos of people. The colors are very harsh. So I set it to a max of 1600 when I'm shooting people and I get much better looking images. Other than that it is a great camera. In all honesty the D40 takes just as good of pictures, but the D90 is more fun to use. So if you love your gadgets get this camera you won't be sorry. If money is a primary concern, then go with the D40; it's a great low cost camera -for $550 with two kitted lenses you can't go wrong. If you are eying a D80, then get the D90 instead as it is well worth the extra money.

I bought the D90 literally one week before I headed to Africa on a safari. I was torn between the Canon Rebel XSi and the D90 but ultimately liked the ergonomics of the Nikon and thought the video feature was huge plus since I didn;t want to lug a camcorder with me. I was not disappointed. Though I have been a Canon user most of my days, it was not difficult to make the switch even given the brief time I had give myself to get familiar with the new camera. In many ways I found it to be more intuitive and user-friendly than the Canon. I returned only days ago from safari and on first viewing the pictures look great -- sharp, vibrant, great contrast -- even the phots taken late in the day and into the evening. As for the video, I am generally very pleased with the results. The only problem is that the lack of continuous AF in video mode meant that animals were walking in and out of focus, and I find that manually focusing while in live view is touchy at best. But that's a quibble. One issue that I encountered is that on at least 3 occasions during normal use, the camera would freeze up, with a flashing "ERR" message and [CHA] in the brackets. The only way to unfreeze the camera was essentially to reboot it by quickly removing and re-inserting the battery. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I will need to have it checked. Overall, I'm thrilled with the D90 and a new covert to Nikon.

So far am in love with this camera,I had the D60 for about a year. I like the 18-105 lens better than 18-55, good general reach, great sharp pictures. Was looking at D5000, was not sure I should spend extra money for D90, glad now i did, its a lot of camera. It will take a while to learn all the things it can do.

This was my first digital SLR, and it is SO easy to use, and takes great pictures. However, I should have listened to other advice, as I returned it - and Amazon gave me a full refund, yaay Amazon - because I am getting the same camera with the 18-200 mm lens. The 105 is fine, no issues other than the zoom is just not quite long enough.I found the D90 easy to set up, easy and intuitive to use the button functions on the camera without going into the menus, even to do some basic manual adjustments. Glad I decided on it rather than the Canon. The shutter speed is great, caught lots of good action shots, exposure was good except for user error, rear lcd screen very clear and nice, flash great - can't wait to get my new one with the better lens!

I love this camera! Easy to use and it takes excellent pictures. I recommend getting a 50mm 1.8 lens in addition to the "kit" zoom lens. Because the camera is not a "full frame" the 50mm acts like a portrait lens and takes awesome portrait pictures.

This is my first digital SLR camera. I love the way it makes your friends jealous. the low-light shots are low noise, and when used along with the SB-600 flash it takes killer flash shots. I really LOVE this camera, and find it easy for beginners (in AUTO mode anyone can get great pictures.) But it is also fantastically full of features for the experienced photographer. The commander mode (wireless flash) lets you move your SB-600 away from the camera for nice shadows and awesome portraits. the 18-105 lens is good if you only have one lens. I even know faithful Canon owners that would like to try out this Nikon. My pictures finally look very very good. I think you have to go pro to beat this one.

Ужасно

I bought this camera and used it for a trip. After that I did not really used much. When I used it recently it is not working any more. LCD just does not show any thing. No picture, NO menu and nothing is visible. I called customer service. They made to ship at my expense. I shipped it 3 weeks ago. I called customer service and they still say it is under repair. They do not have any estimate for service. When I press, They say they will escalate it if I call next week. BAD customer service. and BAD product. My friend bought this camera and his broke in one week. So he returned it.

I had a 12 MP Digital Canon Rebel for about 6 months before someone stole it. I really liked that camera a lot and considered buying another one, but the lens on this Nikon was capable of so much more so I bought it instead. The Nikon is more precise and feels more stable. I definitely like the Nikon more. I just recently bought a nice flash for it and my pictures are amazing.The lens on this camera is my favorite thing. It has so much range for a single lens. I am not a professional, so I don't want to carry around different lenses for different shots. The lens on this camera is all I'll ever need.

The camera performs as expected. The kit lens is really a cheap one. The mounting ring of the lens is made of plastic. That plastic ring was very fragile and can be easily damaged, leaving the whole lens unusable. That happened to mine. I could not but buy a new lens. But later, I found that you could buy a mounting ring from network for about $10. I purchased the ring, used it to replace the one on that kit lens, all was fine now. The new lens I purchased was returned.

After several weeks of researching the Nikon D90, D40 and the Canon 50D and Rebel XSi I turned my attention to lenses and began to covet the Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. So with that as the starting point, then the choice was D90 or D40. While the D40 is an incredible deal right now (see [...]) I went ahead and bought the D90.First use of the D90 was taking night photos of the Capitol Building and Capitol Christmas tree. Remarkably crisp photos of the dome and tree and then of the giant wreaths at Union Station. And without a tripod! All night shots and all out of reach of my beloved and much-used Canon SD700. In the week since I am delighted with the vibrant color and sharply focused sunset shots, malards and my dog. So far I'm mostly shooting in the "Auto" mode and am experimenting a little with manual. Still have to plow through the user's manual. I find the LCD menus mostly intuitive. Also bought the SB400 flash (and rechargeable AA batteries), an extra battery, Hoya UV filter, LowePro 1 Topload Zoom Bag, Lowe chest harness, 8 gig SD card.Fantastic camera, I am thrilled!
