Ruggedly built, loud and clear sound, only drawback I've encountered is the range that they will operate which is not really a problem for me since I onle use them in and around the house. They lost signal when I was leaving home when I got about a mile and a half away.

I have had these radios several months now and have been very pleased. First, when you hold them and operate the buttons and knobs, they have that "feel" of a sturdy, well engineered product, not cheap plastic junk. Buttons and knobs are big and in the right places. I have been very impressed with the sound quality . . . they have good speakers and good microphones. The charger stand is convenient and easy to use, and you can charge both units at the same time. I have not checked their long range capabilities, but they worked fine for the mile or so range that I have used them.
In the past, I made the mistake of ordering the low cost radios by other manufacturers, and found they had bad sound quality, and did not last. They were a complete waste of money. While these midland's are not the cheapest ones out there, you are paying for quality, and in the end, you will not regret that.

Rechargeable batteries last about 2 hours on full charge. Get ready to spend money on AA batteries, they at least last the day before going dead. Should have read reviews about battery life before buying. Ear buds are useless, they are loose in the radio and don't connect.

Great reception in flat neighborhood, easy to operate, my 8 year old has no problem using it. Nice units for camping, beach trips. Range is limited to a few miles in the city or busy suburbs . Like the battery or charger options.

We recently ordered three sets of Midland GXT1000VP4 walkie talkies. The units that work are great; however, one third of them are non-functioning. The batteries are charging, but the walkie talkies do not work at all. Midland products have been relable in the past, so these gave us an unpleasant surprise.

I have had Midland for years. The value and quality are right on. Have an understanding of radios-power output, UHF, LOS, terrain. You will not transmit 36 miles in most environments with these. WX function is great. Obtaining an FCC GMRS lic is very easy, and how to are included in the instruction manual if those channels are needed. Follow the directions regarding battery charging. If you do, the batteries will last a long time after charging properly. Puchased these for outdoor recreation and is part of our family emergency preparedness plan.

These are great. We hunt in an area that is about 6 sq. miles and very hilly. There were only a couple small areas that were dead zones. Gives you a good feeling to know you can contact others in your party. Way better than the older ones I've had for about 4-5 years. Hold a pretty good charge and you can supplement AA's.

This seems like a pretty nice set of radios so far. Given to my husband to use mainly when hunting. Works well, has nice features, sounds clear, good volume, everything included. Generally very pleased with purchase.

It was exactly what I was looking for and it was the right price too. Good Midland quality. Though I remember the description saying that it also had game calls. But it didn't.

Our 7 and 9 year old boys use these to play with. They are easy to teach them to use. Well built and hold up to their abuse. Love the ear pieces they came with too!

Regardless of what it says in the product discription, and on the product packaging, these radios are not at all waterproof. I bought them to use while kayaking, but the first time one of the radios was exposed to the water it stopped working. Please don't just take my word for it. You only need to open up the battery compartment to see there is no type of sealing at all. This not only prevent the radio from being waterproof, but I would not even call it water resistant. My radio was in the water for less than 20 seconds and the water just poured into the battery compartment and the rest of the radio rendering it non functional.

When it comes to two-way radios I always keep my expectations low to start. There are so many factors that influence radio performance and as we all know they never provide the advertised "best case" range. After receiving these radios I put them through my unofficial test to see how they would perform for me and my needs. To my delight the Midland GXT1000VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios performed very well and are one of the better consumer radios available.
My goals for using this radio include:
1. Use when hiking in a desert or mountain environment
2. Use in an urban residential neighborhood
3. As a back up form of communications for disaster preparedness

Great radio this is a second set I have purchased. They do very well believe it or not in the woody area I live. I was surprised to say the least.

Great tool for traveling and hunting. Traveling if you lose directions. hunting - of ones [hone reception does not work and end of Nov it was so extremely cold, it was nice to know that they had good reception since they phones did not, Additional safety.

We purchases this set to use for communicating while riding our four wheelers. The system has great sound and clarity with very good range (probably not 36 miles in most situations) but my only issue is that the volume is not loud enough while riding four wheelers due to engine noise. However, you can hear the roger beep so we just hit the talk button twice to alert the other that we need to talk which they can then slow down and talk. I gave it a four because of the volume.

Bought these for my son for Christmas. We used them at a paintball tournament they had great coverage. The sound was amazing. Very clear great reception and easy to use. We will get lots of use from them.

Excellent radios for the money, range is very good compared to any other radio I have owned. Sound clarity is also better than most, I also appreciate they are made in the USA.

The units have pretty much everything one needs though a stretch re 36 miles... The ear pieces are a bit uncomfortable but besides these minor annoyances, I'm covered - including NOAA weather! Good buy!

Get two blocks away from the house and don't work assume will not work in the woods or anywhere else will not recommend these to anyone that needs a long range talkers
