I wasn't expecting much, most consumer walkie-talkies are terrible. But these have great range, and are definitely clear to about a mile. So far, battery life has been great, despite the illumination.
The only bad is the crappy menu layout. Come on UI interface designers! This is like programming something from the 80's with only 2 buttons.... The other small gripe is the button response is slow- cutting off the first part of a word~ which doesn't happen on a commercial models.

These radios exceeded my expectations. The range totally surprised me. My wife was in the house, I was a half mile outside over a hill with solid forest between us. The radios came through crystal clear. Very glad we purchased them.

We have had some problems with them while hunting as they sometimes seem to have difficulty transmitting even when the other person is visible at a distance, but most of the time they are fine. Love the savings on batteries as these rechargeable batteries last all day unlike some other radios we have tried. Plus with the car charger adapter we take them when we going hunting out of town.

These work great and come in handy a lot more then you would think. From everything from work when you can't see your partner to letting the grand kids play with them

Living on a farm, we often need to communicate with family members who are a mile or more away from the house, and using the phone to call them every time is a pain - even with speed dial. These allow us to keep in touch, especially when several of us are out looking for a lost lamb or a missing dog. Reception is good, the batteries seem to hold a charge pretty well, and the range is great, even in our rolling hills and wooded areas. In fact, we plan to buy a couple more soon!

I bought these for my family to use and Disney and wow the even worked all the way to the hotel. One day my son did not feel well so my wife took the train back to the hotel with him and left the radio on. I called her on it an hour later and was amazed it was so clear 20 miles apart.

They seem reliable, and work for pretty long distances. Made the hunting a lot better, being able to keep in touch with everyone.
The options are pretty complex, complicated to set up, and not real intuitive. If you don't need all the fancy features, buy a simpler radio.

One died almost right away, guess you can't expect a whole lot for the price, concerned about the life expectancy......
As a follow up several months later quite pleased with the radios, Midland took care of the previous failure without problems.

NOT water proof!!!, I was leaning over the edge of my Dinghy one of the radios fell in and went less than 4"-6" under the water. I grabbed it and dried it off then carefully opened it and let it air dry for a week, I sealed it back up re-inserted the batteries. I didn't work. I called Midland and they said "that's a shame, but sorry, they're more "Water -Resistant" than water-proof !!!, Unlike what the package says.
Misleading packaging. The Average consumer doesn't know what JSI4 Watterproof means.
At least their customer service admitted that much. I won't trust any of Midlands product claims again without very close scrutney and research.

Got the radios and we are still learning all the ins and outs of them.. will be using the radios on a caravan trip into alaska. the noaa weather stations will really be good.. Ron

These are very good looking and feel extremely durable. I haven't used them all that much, however my husband and son use them while hunting and such and they work great. The signal also comes in really clear and works up to 3 miles in a vehicle. My husband and I used them while I ran to the store and they worked really good, the signal was clear. However when I got to the store parking lot, my radio was buzzy and I could hardly hear my husband but he could still hear me well. I believe that is because of other possible radio frequency interference at the store. I would highly recommend these... great product, great price!!

Love these two-way radios. I am an event planner, and used them in a contained event space. I was able to interact with our registration area, the caterer and the DJ without our guests knowing!

Works...but not for long...the range is not what it says. Not far apart....can still see the other person (direct line of sight)....but doesn't pick up?

We used this unit on our ATV trips. We go for 6-8 hours rides at a time and it was nice to finally be able to have conversations during the ride without having to stop and even turning off the ATV so we can hear each other through the helmets. These radios performed really well. The range was outstanding. At one point, we were still able to communicate 3 miles apart in mountainous terrain - case in point: between Mirror Lake and Tipcup (Colorado).... and that was only in FRS frequency.
With the Midland AVPH2 Closed Face Helmet Headset... this gear proved to be an essential, must have gear for our group on the trail. I've read many complain that you can't hear very well. When the headset is mounted correctly, it works like a charm and the clarity is absolutely fine. Note: if you simply place the ear piece in the ear cavity in the helmet, it will be too far from your actually ear. It may even be misaligned with your ear. You need to prop up the earpiece by filling in the ear cavity with some foam or some sort of soft material so that the earpiece is closer to your ear once the helmet is on. See [...]

I use these for work and thus far they have been great. I had to recharge them after not using them for a couple weeks, but that is somewhat expected. good range and clear reception. highly recommended.

Best Radios I have had and this is my 4th set over the years. The range is about double my old set which was a pleasant suprise. The previous reviews were correct that they are a pain to set up but my main objective was increased range and they more than met expectations.

It does better then line of sight communications. We had some difficulty receiving signal at the bottom of a valley, while the other person was 3 miles away on the other side of a mountain. Compared to cheaper models, there is none. We should have bit the bullet and purchased this years ago. The ear sets are a little... fragile. The wire is easily crimped if not careful. I suggest purchasing a backup set of ear pieces. The ear pieces are left or right usable and did not interfere with hearing everything around me. I like this, but I can not say I love it. So it gets 4 stars.

We purchased the Midland walkie-talkie to help coordinate the intake of over 1000 people at an event. These worked very well in a large room and even between rooms at the event. A great value for the cost!

My daughter saw one of her cousins playing with these and asked me to get them. I thought about it long and hard, thinking what would a 12 year old girl want with these. Turns out they are a hit for not only her but for everyone in the family. She plays with them, her 9 year old sister, 7 year old sister and 4 year old brother all use them. Not to mention all the friends that come over. Our nephew which showed us them in the first place, lives 3 neighborhoods away and we can talk to him. They work well.

Great 2 way radios. My entire security team uses it and no complains so far from anybody. Overall its a good radio and for the price we paid for it its definitely a plus.

Great clarity at 3 miles, did not go further as we were following other vehicles. Voice activated worked great with the microphone that came with the radios. Bought another pair when we got back from our trip..
