I got these for doing weddings. I am a wedding officiant and I hired a wedding planner and we use these at weddings to communicate with each other. I also purchased the Secret Service style earpieces and it works wonders for keeping up with the bride and groom who don't want to see each other the day of the wedding. They have great range and are clear and easy to use.

We got these because we were moving from Michigan to Washington and my boyfriend and I needed to be able to keep in touch, even when we went through states (and mountain passes) where cell phone service was limited.
The handsets worked GREAT for the first couple of days – It was nice to be able to get local weather just by pushing a button and then being able to easily get back to talking to my boyfriend who was in a car behind me. We didn’t get much of a chance to get to the more interesting features, but we didn’t need all that for this trip.
The next day one of the handsets just stopped working. We assumed it was a dead battery and left it to charge overnight.
It didn’t work the next morning.
We put it in the back of the Uhaul truck and carried on our way – If he needed to stop for gas or needed to talk to me, he flashed his brights at me and I acknowledged by putting on my four way flashers. We’d then get off at the next exit. It wasn’t practical, but it worked well enough.
The next night we tried charging the unit again, just in case. We also switched batteries between the two units and everything like that. It STILL didn’t work so we put it in the back of the Uhaul and didn’t take it out again.
When we got to Washington and were unloading, we found the units to be able to return to Amazon and go figure – The one turned on. I still decided to return them though – They didn’t work for the purpose we needed them for. Had they worked through the whole trip, I would have kept them and used them again eventually, but if I need them again, I won’t be buying this brand. It was great while it lasted, but it only lasted about 48 hours.
Amazon has been great and has allowed me to return these – I should be getting a refund shortly.

i got these just to be used as toys here and there... but they are soo good, amazing quality, super durable. great signal. i use them for safety when i am in the woods, when convoying to the beach for a weekend. great product, great quality, great price

We found the effective range to be about a mile and a half. We bought these for our move because we would be in different cars and we wanted to be able to keep in touch. Proved difficult if one car fell back a couple of miles. Radio would break up and conversations were difficult to decipher.

As good as GMRS/FRS can get in consumer grade. Performance is above average, and I have dropped my radio several times, and it comes up squawking. Drop in charger is not self regulating, so you must monitor each charge event. But the use of AA batteries really increases functionality. I bought the throat mics and earset combo and it works great. I paid for the licence as I am a Ham and a pilot and also hold a maritime radio license so I want to play by the rules.

The radios have a lot of functionality. The instruction manual is required for more advanced use. Good weight and rugged feel.

And they work. Sound quality is average, battery life is below average. For the price, meh why not, look elsewhere for professional use.

I purchased these for the small business that I work for. We have two buildings on catercorner ends of an intersection and we needed our mobile employees to be able to communicate between them. Initially, I purchased two pairs of these radios. Just 2-3 days after receiving them, one of the radios would not power on after charging all night. I returned them for another pair, just to have it happen again. To date I have ordered 5 pairs of these radios and have had to return 2 of them. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the ones I have last before the return deadline is reached. As I understand it, Midland is much harder to deal with in regards to returns than Amazon is. I was surprised by the outcome because I had done a bit of research trying to find the right radios for our company. consumersearch.com rated these radios #1 in March 2013. Overall, I'd say that they are good radios- the range, clarity, and features are great, however there needs to be a bit of work done on the power side of things. I'm rating these radios so low due to the major inconvenience and hassle that all of this has been.

Easy to use and has the bonus weather emergency radio, which was a plus when I am on location. I can use this to direct my assistant from a distance without disturbing the guest at a function I am photographing.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good two way radio. We live out in the sticks I have read all kinds of reviews on these. Ranging from those who like them and those who love them. I traveled over 2 miles throu hills and trees and still was able to hear my kids and husband really clear. I am not quite sure it will do the 36 miles but in a wooded area I believe it will get 5 miles. I have not tested it for the range yet. Although I do not need it to range that far. It works great for what I need to for.

Distance is terrible!!!!! HWY is pretty straight with no hills. Barely had signal past 2 miles. Battery lasts awhile, but probably because their so weak.

I bought these for working in a cold, often wet work environment. Initially thought I was being cheap but I've been impressed. These are used every day. They have performed exceptionally. The distance for signal/reception of course is dependent on various factors, but I've been impressed with them. 35 miles would be interesting to test. But I know 10 miles works clear as a bell with no mountains or cities to interfere.

Now I can keep chatting with my girls from a distance. These look well made, rugged, and easy to hold.
I wish the functions were a little easier to get using off the bat, but once you read the manual, you should be OK...But likely to forget if you don't use it enough.

they work real nice and have plenty of options but the ear piece things are garbage and i just threw them in the trash. They wouldn't stay on/in your ear and were not comfortable anyway. But yeah the radios are good.

Works great, I was able to talk to someone inside a building from inside my truck two miles away. There were several buildings between us so I'm impressed. I bought a total of four(two packages) and they work well together. Took them on a camping trip too and really helped keep track of everyone. The maximum range in the woods and a few slight hills seemed to be reduced to little over a mile.

We have not had these for very long so I do not know how well they will stand up, but we do know that the distance is no where 36 miles, more like 3-4 when we are traveling in caravan. I really like the emergency channels, it is nice to be getting up-to-the-minute reports on tracking tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. As time progresses if problems crop up, I will update this review

I wanted to make sure that I could provide legitimate feedback from experience.
I have used these radios for riding on my Harley-Davidson Fatboy Lo when I caravan it with my college buddy on trips.
They are FANTASTIC!!
I use the VOX microphone inside my helmet and he doesn't. I just speak and don't have to push any buttons to communicate.
After two [2] years, I am still lovin' these extremely professional radios. Surprised that more bikers have not used them.
Get a pair or two. You won't regret it.

I didn't expect 30 miles, but 5 km is a joke, IT DOESN'T WORK IN A 5 KM DISTANCE!!!! Save money, don't waste on this product if you are over 10 yo

Midland gxt1050vp4 work just like the reviews. In heavy houses,buildings,hills,trees is may only work 2 miles on high power. From a high hill to another high hill over a town, it worked 10 miles. Bought these for vacation and will try with helmet headset on dirt bike/4wheller. I've installed headset in helmet which works well on VOX in the house. I also have the volume all the way up. I wish it was louder. I don't know how it'll work. This summer I'll try it on dirt bike/4wheller.

The product meet our needs
Was skeptical at first but after testing in a crowded housing area.
Then we brought to the woods where we host obstacle races with lots of hill the product worked great.

Radios great but rechargable batteries they sent were bad and when I asked to replace them I received no comments. Bought new batteries and all works great. But got ripped off on batteries
