Nice product but definitely won't transmit up to 35 miles as advertised! Very well made though. Good instruction manual.

Ok ever since I was a kid I've been let down by talkie talkies, fast forward 30 years and being sold on a 30+ mile range I still am let down. I got these for my dad who is suffering from dementia to carry with him on his daily walk, mind you we are surrounded by uneven terrain and thick forest of Doug firs but a little over a half mile and 60 feet of elevation change is enough to render them useless. Sure I read all the negative comments, but that is my experience with them. On the Straight, clear and open terrain they are great, but I fell for the 30 mile range claim figuring 3 miles would be well within it's capability or even one mile I would have been content. So yeah you need to figure out whether you will have a use for them based on this or if you want to spend 60 bucks on a well marketed toy

I bought these radios to communicate between vehicles while traveling down the road. Everything worked fine until the third time I used them. I had both radios fully charged, but only one of them would turn on. I swapped the battery pack from the working one, since I knew it was charged, but the second one would still not power on. That night I started trying to see if the contacts were dirty or if something was keeping the battery from powering the unit. After 15 minutes or so of trying things the unit came back to life. I thought it was a glitch, so I didn't think to try to replace. Two trips later it did the same thing. I've not been able to have the second unit power on since the charge. If there was a way to have it replaced now, I'd do it, but I think the time has run out and I'm probably out of luck.
This is an update: I have figured out that after charging, one of the units requires me to bend out the contacts so the battery can make contact. Not sure why.
Recently I've had the units not transmit consistently. Distance between the two units is 100 yards or less going down the interstate. Either the unit won't transmit properly or the receiving unit won't receive properly. Happens with both units, so it's not specific to a single unit. Line of site is not obscured and both units provide the audible beeps to let you know when the transmission has ended. Often have to hit the send button 3-4 times to get the other person to be able to receive.

I bought these two way radios for my grandson but I want to keep them they send and receive clearly for a couple miles . 36 miles is a stretch but if there wasn't a curve to the earth..... Maybe.! !!!

First of VERY VERY skeptical on purchasing these. When I received them took them on a port offloading a vessel and tossed it down to my buddy to catch who was not on the ship...sadly I tossed it WAY too hard and it landed on the concrete. Thats about a 60ft drop only thing that happened was a little scratch on the face. These little guys are beasts very clear sound no static and I can say these guys go for a long distance. Great buy.

I bought these for my 15 year old son for Christmas and he loves them! We do a lot of hunting and fishing so they come in handy. Gave them to him early so that we could use them for the deer season before Christmas. We still learning them now. They have a lot of features!

One of the unit stopped working after the first use.. The other unit works, but what good is ONE two way radio. I'm not impressed.

The operation, volume, range, and battery life on these are all great. as with most walkie talkies however, the VOX is hit or miss. It's either way too sensitive or you need to scream to get it to work. All in all good value for the price.

I bought these on special and I like them but they don't really live up to my expectations, especially in this technology-rich world. There seems to be a huge delay between hitting the talk button and actually transmitting to the other radio. I don't recommend them for time-sensitive interaction such as backing a boat into a tight storage space because you might lose communication and hit something. It seems like the talk button doesn't always work either. Great tool for husband/ wife when one goes out to the barn to play... Then again, with text messaging on a cell phone, not sure why I needed these

Got them for my bugout bag. Well built and very easy to use. I have not tried the max range in the woods or the city yet. The NOAA weather band works great!

Sadly this is what I have to report ... 36 miles , forget about it , never going to happen . I honestly wasn't expecting that but the less than 2.5 miles , well that's ridiculous ! How can you advertise such radical range and deliver barely an 18th of that ??? Battery life seems good to go and features are plentiful , admittedly I haven't used them all and honestly some of them are a bit convoluted to access and use but , if you want em' , it's got em' . It did come with some fair to better ear wigs / mics that aren't the most comfortable things but actually do work quite well . Their ability to utilize standard batteries is a bonus as well in case you didn't know this . The package was pain to open but all and all the best I can give them is a 3 star rating . I read the reviews of these and several similar products and went with these because of the price advantage and the few lil' extras ( the ear wig/mics ) and the dual battery capability but truly am completley dismayed at the lack of range , the 2.5 miles I actually got out of them should be noted as being almost completely obstacle free with a fair amount of static and squawking going on prior to the complete loss at 2.5 miles range . BUMMER !

Got 2 packs of these for our caravan to stay in contact with each other during a 2 day drive with 2 cars and a moving truck. Worked great. So far one of the four has a bad battery pack, it will not recharge, which is the reason for taking off a star, however you can use batteries instead, so it's not a total loss. Remember to only use these on the FRS frequencies unless you have a valid GMRS license from the FCC.

With a good experience from my previous GXT radios, I decided to step up to this 5-Watt transceiver. Wow, the quality blew me away. I had one issue after leaving the radio on (the battery drained). My son put it in the charger for 24 hours and it wouldn't turn on. I simply unplugged the battery and plugged it back in. No problems after that. (Maybe the contacts had some debris?)
I am still blown away with the performance. But remember, unless you only use the FRS channels (low power), you must get the GMRS license from fcc(dot)gov (I think it is $85/5 years... one per family).

Have had Midland radios in the past and very pleased. Lost one of the pair, but cannot buy in singles. Have to purchase all in pairs. Upside...now have a spare but takes a separate charger. Great range, easy to use, clear send and receive signals. Recommend not only for just being out in the woods, but great for hunting and OHV rider to rider communication.
Definitely recommend Midland for your radios.

i purchased and returned three pairs of the Midland two-way radios. I put each set of radios on the charging stand, and the batteries charge up and work fine after the first charge. Then, on the second or third attempt to charge the batteries by putting the radios in the charging stand, the batteries would not recharge again! These radios are a complete waste of time if they will only charge up one time. I am glad that the Amazon return and refund processes were very fast and easy! I returned each pair of radios and Amazon did an excellent job with regard to refunding my money quickly each time, and I didn't even have to pay for return shipping!

I've been disappointed with the quality control of this product. I had to order 3 sets just to get two working sets. First bad set had a battery that did not charge. I contacted the manufacturer and was given a strict deadline by when product must be returned. I work internationally and could not send in for replacement by deadline. Second set had one radio that also did not charge. At this point I had extra parts and was able to replace and could actually have 4 working radios. Unfortunately we are standardized to this model so I'm stuck with poor quality control and poor customer service.

I had bought these for hunting and being in contact with my fellow hunters.My freinds had also bought these units so we could all keep in touch. The radio's work well but the supplied headsets are very poor quality. On the first hunt, one of the microphones stuck on. In turn, the battery went dead fast and we could not stay in touch with that hunter. Another time the same thing happened so I was not able to talk to the other hunter. He did figure it out knowing of the pervious experience and unplugged the headset. The volume had to be turned down to not scare away the deer. Kind of defeated the purpose. The headsets are also very uncomfortable! The plasic ear loop seems too rigid. After wearing these for two hours, you need to remove them and get some ear releif. This could be a fantactic product but the earpieces are really poor. I did buy the other security transparent ear pieces and they were almost as bad.

Had a friend take one radio to the mall (About 20 miles away) and test it out. They worked flawlessly!
Of course, there was some scratchy audio, but I can see these working very nicely in other situations.

As seen, they come in sets. I've had them for about 5 or 6 months and this morning I tried to turn one on...it didn't want to work, so I stuck it on the charger for a good 7-8 hours and still no signal. It won't even beep or even get to the screen with low battery - just a grey screen. Has this happened to anyone else? One walkie just not turn on, it's not the battery - I switched them and they work fine in one walkie, but the other has died. Does Midland do repairs or am I stuck buying another one? (Or another brand)..

These radios are a bit smaller than I expected. Not a bad thing, but they don't fit in my radio pouch as well as I would like. Of course, the 36 mile range is a stretch. It might get that if it's over 36 miles of open water or flat land perhaps, but once you introduce hills and buildings and such, it shrinks down to a mile or two. This is absolutely normal. My police radio at work suffers from the same exact problem. It gets roughly a mile of range without using repeaters. It's nice that they're waterproof but it's unfortunate that they lose that rating when you use a headset. However, if all you want the waterproofing for is rain, they'll still be perfectly fine. Another plus is that if the batteries die, you can also use regular AA batteries instead of the batteries that come with them. Very high quality construction. The charger, however, is really cheap - your typical Made in China junk. The only good thing to say about them is that they work (although they won't tell you when the radio is charged, only that it's charging).
