I purchased the Microsoft LifeCam for use on Skype in conference calls with web developers in my business. I needed a good quality microphone and decided to purchase the LifeCam instead. I have been very impressed with the clarity of the images and the sound quality from the built in mic is very clear and easy to understand. The on-off button comes in handy when I want to make sure the unit is off. On screen controls make it easy to control the mute. My wife was so impressed with the quality that she asked me to order one for her so we could visit with the grandkids over the internet. The picture quality of the video cam on her laptop is terrible. We could not be happier.

This product works great. It is definitely worth the cost compared to other cheaper models. Would highly recommend. Have used other models in the past to communicate with our children away at college and this one has worked better than others.

I thought.. meh.. it's a webcam, how great can it be? But, the moment I opened it up and set it up (which took only minutes) I was making videos for fun and the images were very high-quality, it was very responsive to lighting and auto-focusing. Beautiful webcam! Highly recommended for a high-quality cam! I also love the bendable grippy base it has, so you can virtually grab onto anything with it.

I don't understand all the negative reviews. IT'S A WEBCAM - NOT A PROFESSIONAL VIDEO CAMERA! It works very well, does everything it is supposed to do. If you want a relatively inexpensive hi-res camera, this is definately worth a look. I installed the software, plugged in the camera to a USB port when the installation said to and it worked, and worked perfectly. I called my son in California via Skype and he was very impressed with the quality of the video, and I do not have the fastest internet service (600Mbs up speed). I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a 2.66Ghz Pentium Quad Core with 8GB or Ram. The video that I see on my end is very good, even at the max resolution. I do not have any special software, just what came with the camera. If you want a very good web-camera with some nice features for not too much money, I strongly recomend this one.

Saw this camera in my local Walmart for 80.00 did some research and found it here for >50.00. Works great, I get a "low system performance" warning, but my laptop is pretty lame. Still has an awesome picture though. :)

Length:: 3:15 MinsI have been using a Microsoft Lifecam Cinema for several months now, with good results. The "Cinema" is quite similar to this "Studio" webcam, except that its highest resolution is 720P rather than the 1080P offered by the "Studio" webcam.First disappointment: the "Studio" webcam does not really provide 1080P video. A footnote on the box reads "1080P HD recording requires: commercial video software (not included); (...) Enclosed software supports 720P HD recording."In other words, you have to buy more software before you can capture 1080P video. I am unable to extract details of this software from the Microsoft support representatives. I must say, I find it rather puzzling that Microsoft did not include software that exploits the full resolution of their hardware.The "Studio" webcam has a problem with autofocus that is not present in the older "Cinema" webcam. It will hunt for the right focus, resulting in a hopelessly blurry appearance for about two seconds. Irritating.I have gone back to using my old "Studio" webcam. Because of the autofocus issue, it is a better product.I have attempted to attach a video clip which demonstrates some fun features of this webcam. Unfortunately, I was obliged to transcode this video to a lower resolution. I did this in order to get the video uploaded to Amazon.com.

This is a great webcam for its price. It mounts easily on the monitor, it captures and records great. And it also records in HD and can capture motion much better than regular webcams.Recommended.

I've been using this camera for a year, and its performance has been very good. Images are crisp, it functions well in low-light conditions, and it's a simple plug-and-play . There are lots of webcams on the market, and for the price you won't find any that are better for basic everyday use.

I purchased this Microsoft Lifecam Studio webcam in April 2011 and spent the last month trying to work-out the bugs. I even upgraded a great computer to a awesome computer thinking that was the problem. No, the webcam is manufactured as unusable. A grade C- at best. The software is worthless and there is no options to choose a different microphone. If you want a really, really good webcam get the Logitech HD Webcam C310. It has a great HD picture and works right out of the box. It's half the price and 100 times better! You will love-it! Thanks

This is an appropriate cam for in-home use such as video-calling family, and it's easy enough to install for casual users without the support of an IT guy. It feels sturdy and well-constructed. The rest-in-place mount fits right on top of a desktop monitor, but that's not a family-friendly aspect of this cam - it won't take much for an active pet or a child to knock it off. The built-in microphone is almost too sensitive (or the noise-reduction doesn't work) because it picks up every little rustle in the background. For the price, it's a decent choice.

Cam works amazingly! I was just looking for an upgrade from my worthless built in cam and this cam really does a great job! It looks high def and has a clear picture. I was worried the cam would take up too much RAM and freeze my computer or lag during video chats but I haven't had any problems on that even on my 3 year old laptop. Works great in dark light and also has a nice zoom feature in the LifeCam Settings thing that you can zoom while web chatting on MSN. The 1080p doesn't work without the required software but that's ok it still looks AMAZING! Worth the price!

Originally put it on the top of a laptop computer but did not like the wobble so now I use it on a 6 inch tripod sitting beside the laptop and it is great!

After reviewing many web cams, I decided to go with this model. It performs as expected being a microsoft product. Clear high resolution images in real time even when connected to someone with limited bandwidth. The only complaint I have is that sometimes it has trouble focusing if you move. I have found that putting a hand in front of the cam and then removing it will force it to refocus where it should be. If you get this cam, just make sure you don't have clutter in your background, as the person viewing you can read box labels behind you in your background....... kind of embarassing, but really impressive at the same time.

Much smaller in person but it really does provide a crisp image with good color and lighting. Currently using it for WebEx meetings and it does not consume high amounts of bandwidth.

Folks, they advertise this as a 1080p. It is only 1080p for still shots, i.e. photos. For web cam video, you can get a max of 720P. The camera is great, but I hate companies that lie and dupe you so punish them by not buying!

I have been looking for a camera for my high school science class for a while, and when the MS Lifecam Studio came out, I decided to take a risk and buy the camera. Installing the camera was very easy, even on a Mac system (Macbook with a Core2Duo processor and OS X 10.6). Since the camera follows the UVC standard for driverless web cameras, it works both on Photobooth, iChat and - more importantly - in Quicktime X without any extra drivers. iMovie, on the other hand, did not recognize the camera.Initially I had planned to use the camera for motion studies where I had hoped that the 1080p24 would give me better resolution for video analysis. However, HD videos turned out to be beyond what is possible since my computer was not able to process the 1080p video at reasonable frame rates.The camera does very well, though, as a regular video camera for demonstrations. The close focus is about 35 mm, with an object field of about 35 x 50 mm^2 at maximum magnification with working autofocus. There is some pincushion distortion, and the focal plane does not seem to be perfectly flat, but under normal conditions that easily managed.

I got this mainly because of the HD capabilities. The camera itself is nice looking. It looks as if it's made of aluminum and plastic. You can mount it to a tripod which is a plus and it comes with a lens cap which falls off too easily.The video quality is pretty good. I recorded some video using the included software. One of the main problems I've had with this camera is the autofocus. It seems to have a hard time focusing and sometimes it gets it right but sometimes you have to move until it is able to focus. This is the main drawback I've found. The quality of the sound from the built-in microphone is also pretty good. I've also encountered a problem when the software stopped recognizing the camera. I tried restarting the software but it still wouldn't recognize it until I unplugged and plugged it again. Overall, it's an ok camera. If only they could fix the auto focus it would be a great camera!

I owned Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam (Black) and bought this one to upgrade.I have video chatting almost once a day with my family in Korea. So I always wanted the best webcam.This one? I have no idea what is the difference with this one and Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam (Black).The only difference is this one is White (vs Black), had blue light on the top (vs nothing) and has tripod hole(why it has tripod hole? Who use this small webcam with tripod? It is nonsense)I returned it and still happy with Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam (Black)

The Microsoft LifeCam Studio 1080p HD Webcam is an excellent camera for the money. It is easy to set up and simple to use. The image is excellent in both video and capture modes. A number of interesting effects can be applied to the video as it is being shot,such as a 'funhouse mirror' effect or even placing a hat or disguise over the faces in the image. One can save videos or captured images in a file, resolution and brightness can be adjusted and advanced changes such as zoom, pan and tilt.The only thing I would have added to the software would have been a motion detection mode which would be handy if you want to see who is snooping around your kitchen when you're not there!

Very nice webcam, not very useful on laptops because of the size and the clip. You need a powerful processor for the use of HD Video. No software support for 1080P. Definetly Microsoft have no idea about he autofocus function. Overal great color and resolution.
