Great image quality, color accuracy, and autofocus. The only issue I had at the beginning was that the installation software kept prematurely aborting and would not install correctly. After several attempts later, it finally worked. Sometimes the cam would stop working and I have to unplug it then restart the application (MSN/Skype) but overall, it's working really well. Definitely enjoy it.

I owned the Logitech pro 9000 before getting this cam which is a 2 year old product, I'm sorry to say that the logitech provides an overall better experience.the webcam does not perform well in low light situations (like most webcams) but the effect of having little light on most cams is that you get a grainy greenish image because of the high iso compensation, in the this camera however, you get continuous loss of focus and pretty much an unwatchable experience.in terms of white balance, the camera also falls short, the image it outputs is very inaccurate and provides a fluorescent effect even in incandescent lighting which could work out well for fluorescent lighting conditions but unfortunately, I was not able to check that.The software is far superior to the logitech version and may be the only saving grace for this camera. The webcam comes with a cd that installs a downloader that gets the most recent software from microsoft's site (a nice touch, but why even include a cd-rom, why not just direct you to the site?). The software itself is extremely polished and well made, the fun effects work amazingly well and really is a lot of fun.In term of form factor, the camera looks very cool and professional and fits very well in many places, including on top of my flat screen. It also comes with a detached rubber lens cover that I have already lost - it is not attached and doesn't fit great - not clear why they would even include that piece.Another thing that I found very annoying is that the camera is marked as 1080p and HD but WILL NOT TAKE HD VIDEOS but rather it will take HD photos...In conclusion, I would not recommend this product at this price point, when it goes down a bit I think it will make a nice video chat tool.form factor: 3 of 5video quality: 2 of 5software: 5 of 5value for money: 1 of 5if you find this review lacking in detail, let me know and I'll add to it, if you like it, please mark it as helpful :)

Read the reviews about this really great microsoft webcam (Lifecam) Well how abut NolifeCam.I guess that Microsoft really has no quality control or their software engineers really don'tcare about their product. Ordered Microsoft LifeCam Studio. Connected it and computer recognized itand started to load software. Then it asked to update firmware (bad Idea)loaded it camera quit,and computerwill not recognize it. Beware Microsoft webcam this one will be going back, and will buy a logitec.If i could give it a negative rating I would.

I'll start by saying that this is a very capable web camera. For standard web cam communication through services such as Skype or Yahoo, this camera will do everything you need it to and more. And the picture is great quality. As noted in some of the other reviews, there is more to be desired by the camera's low-light functionality. In low light, it tends to go into a full length focus at random intervals. So you'll have to wait a second or two for it to grab focus. Since this is not so much an issue if you have a light near by or in the background, keep one nearby. And the microphone is very worthy - clear, crisp sound.The camera certainly looks cool and is sturdy in structure - especially compared to some of the flimsy plastic competitors. I'm not a huge fan of the prop stand - it is not a clamp or stand. It is designed to just rest on top of an item of your choice, and also has a tripod bolt hole. It takes a bit of adjusting and it certainly won't hold onto the top of a laptop if you want to walk around. At the price, maybe they could have thrown in a nylon bolt, suction cup, or a true stand to make it more versatile.The software is very clean and organized, and simple to use. After a quick install, you are good to go. It even coordinates well with 3rd party apps such as Skype. You can take full advantage of the special effects (which are cool, but there could be more) and the different resolutions (low res to 720p). Full 1080p requires special software (not included) and is pretty resource intensive, so you'll have to have a pretty powerful system to keep up in regards to frame rates. 720 is crisp and smooth for me though.Lastly, the 3 year warranty is nice peace of mind.All in all, this is a great little camera, that may need to drop in price a bit before it finds a place in more homes, but I would recommend putting it into the side by side comparison for those looking for a high-quality web cam.

As others have mentioned, it does seem to have auto-focus problems at times where you will catch it out of focus as it tries to adjust itself. A few times, I've found that it has a hard time recovering if you place something near the lens, let it focus, then remove the object. It sometimes takes some coaxing to get it to focus back on the person. Skype also indicates that the mic sometimes generates background noise, which I don't hear on my computer, but can hear emanating from the speakers of the other person. I do wish they had a better lens cover situation though, it is a round, rubber piece that just sits in between the metal parts that stick out near the lens. If the camera has any downward angle at all, the cover will often fall out.All that said, it works great, is smaller than I expected, has quality audio/video (see 1080p restrictions in other reviews) and I haven't had a single issue with it yet.

How IMPRESSIVE ! For $50, this webcam is a MUST-HAVE ! The auto-focus is working very well, and the software allows the person to play with the product.

This is a very high quality webcam. The auto focus makes image clear. The resolution of the camera allows you to make HD film. The direction of the camera is adjustable which make it very convenient to use. Not only the image is good, the microphone is also great. The sound quality is definitely much better than the Logitech C910. It is said that Microsoft have improved the microphone a lot from the previous version. The only defect is that the cover of the camera is not tight.

This is fundamentally a very nice camera, in line with today's available picture technology.PRO: Picture quality is exceptionally good.CON:1. The camera has no automated pointing/tracking, such as face-tracking or pan and tilt, like my previous Creative Labs cameras did. Once you point it, that's where it's pointed. Sure, you can reposition it by hand, but that's my complaint isn't it?2. The lens cover is a joke. It won't stay in place if you breathe on it. And, there's no way or place to secure it when it's removed, other than the other joke: it's supposed to attach/clip to the camera's USB cable -- that doesn't work either. How hard would it have been to include a simple lanyard?3. Finally, the microphone is inferior -- too much noise and distortion. If it's all you have, it will serve. But, I turned it off in favor of my Logitech desk mic.Would I recommend this camera? Actually, no. Not until all other options were completely explored. I strongly suspect more feature-rich and better designed units are available at or near the same price point. I was just in too much of a hurry when I discovered my old cam didn't work with 64-bit Windows 7. Don't make my mistake.

Great webcam for the price the only issue I had with it was I dont want to use the Microphone that is built in because I have a studio microphone but you cant just use the camera you have to use their microphone as well

The Cam works fine the software has a little to be desired some of the old functions like time delay for pictures are unavailable Zoom is not as easy as I would like, but maybe its just my lack of experience with the unit. Great for the price picture is clear, would reccomend, maybe later software updates will correct the small issues.

I'm quite pleased with my Microsoft LifeCam Studio.INSTALLATION: Being of sound mind (or so I'd like to think) but having been born to a generation where the switch from rotary to push-button phone was a big deal, the thought of installing new tech gadgets leaves me twitchy and wondering whether I should wait for my techno-inclined daughter to get back from college. However, this one was pretty darn easy: open the package, put the CD in the computer and follow the prompts. A few minutes later and you have a working web-cam. If I can do it without an increase in blood pressue then anyone can do it.EASE OF USE: Also easy to use. It fit easily onto the top of my laptop. It does not clamp firmly, there is no clamp apparatus, it is just a prop stand. It happens to work well enough on my PC but it seems to me a little shaking or bump onto the desktop could send it tumbling. It hasn't happened yet but I would have liked to have seen an attachment that could fasten the cam more securely. On the other hand, it is darn easy to remove.There are plenty of tools available for use during filming and they easily found on the photo screen when in operation. I tend to prefer written manuals for guidance (there's that generational thing again) and tips on use but once again a couple of online clicks and you are on the Microsoft LifeCam Studio page and you can find what you need.PICTURE QUALITY: I think it is excellent for my needs. There are some low-light issues but my office is set up with plenty of light and I've had no problems at all on that score. Additionally, I've now used this for online video chatting (both with MSN and Skype).All in all I'm quite happy with the Microsoft LifeCam Studio.

Amazon as usual did a great job delivering this product in record time. Just a day after I placed the order. Arrived well packaged. On testing, I can confidently say that for everyday use to chat on social media (skype, messenger etc) this is quite good. But for those looking for real quality HD streaming, forget this product. Compared with other webcams available in the market today, the Logitech C910 is clearly miles ahead on every compartment. If you are looking for crisp HD video/pictures up to 720/1080p in even poor lighting, the C910 is the way to go. Good effort anyway by Microsoft

Camera was received on time and in appropriate condition. Software installed easily and quickly and product works as manufacturer specified. Updates for product come on as requested and in a timely fashion. Excellent product and no complaints.

While the resolution is excellent and installation was easy as opposed to the recent purchase of a Logitech webcam whose software corrupted my Windows 7 computer (and I had to reinstall the entire system), the autofocus is poor, often resulting in blurry images. So I give it 3 out of 5 stars. As I said, very nice resolution when it is in focus. Disabling the autofocus makes it useable.

And for the price, I really got a good deal. The only problem is watch what you download from Windows updates. That screwed this webcam up to the point that I couldn't use it while I was on Windows 7 Ultimate, but when I tried it on my other operating system (Ubuntu 11.10 which is awesome and absolutely free!) it worked like a champ. This is the best webcam I've ever had. Don't sleep on this bad boy family!

Highly adaptable webcam. I published some videos to the web if you want to see how it works with your basic microsoft packages. Bring the recording volume way down and set the resolution to a higher resolution as soon as you get it out of the box. Have fun bloggers. . .

I got a couple of web cams but this one is by far the best one. The image quality is clear and visible. It IS HD and just great! Worth every penny and happy to get it. Also, I believe it comes with a built in microphone... Hope this helps :)
