I must say I was very surprised at the quality of this webcam, it has a nice substantial feel to it - materials and workmanship are top notch and everything from software to hardware has worked flawlessly for us. We are actually using it as a real-time remote monitor when performing xrays (required by state) instead of as a communication device so we can't comment on over the internet use. The image quality (at least locally to us) is superb - autofocus is fast and colors are natural. The hole in the mounting platform allows us to mount it on the wall in the corner of the xray room though it was probably designed for a tripod. This was way cheaper than buying some dedicated camera system costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Microsoft made a good product with this one! I have used it a few times over Skype and not to one up the people on the other end but this is HD! I look good and they can hear me clearly at normal talking tone. (camera is 3 1/2FT away) I just wish the people I have been talking to would buy this one. Its got a great price and is worth more. Money well spent.

This webcam reflected image behind you left to right, right to left, for example; the TV set was placed behind your left side, but it becomes at right side on the webcam, a chair was place behind your right side becomes placed at left side on the webcam, looks horrible, I return it .

This is just the perfect web camera I have ever dreamed for!Good White Balance, good light automatic level controlThe Mic is just amazing, I don't need to yell even from the distance of 7ft, and no parasitic noise at all!This for me is implementation of a smart AGC, which alone worth the half of the priceWorks perfectly with a active USB2.0 extender, so my TV is now a skype TV... And for that money it's a sin not to make an upgrade!Check the difference!

I bought one of them and I am very satisfied with it, it is a good high definition camera, and good stereo microphone, I really like it.

Great camera, the only drawback is that the focus of the camera keeps shifting on occasion. I use it on my PC and an additional one on my laptop. 5 stars for quality!

The Lifecam Studio camera has a great picture (1080p), but runs hot. Mic seems to work well. Integrates with Skype well.

Take it from a seasoned photographer: this is the webcam you'll fall in love with.I was impressed the moment I took this webcam out of it's box, it's small- smaller than the product photos would have you believe, and the build quality is impeccable: the entire component just felt solid and well-made. The addition of a tripod mount is a nice touch, and I'm looking forward to getting a chance to make use of it.Setup was a breeze: just pop in the CD and plug in the webcam. Microsoft's included software isn't anything to write home about, so give Yawcam ([...]) a try if you're looking for motion detection and other advanced features. Sound and picture quality are top-notch: there's really not many webcams that can compare, and Microsoft deserves a lot of recognition for pushing the envelope this far.The bottom line? If you're someone with a discerning eye for quality and can afford the premium price, the Microsoft LifeCam Studio not only destroys all previous efforts by other manufacturers, but it also sets a very high bar that I doubt will be topped any time soon.Enjoy your purchase!

I was skeptical about "Microsoft " product in general but decided to try this cam., now this camera is a confirmation of my skepticism. This camera is totally unacceptable for any decent imaging. Highlights are blown, no adjustment to ANY light gradients. Overall: stay away from this product- typical Microsoft poor design creation.

Fast and easy set-up, Windows 7 automatically downloaded up to date drivers and software. Skype auto detected. About as painless as it's possible to be.I have mine on a USB extension and keep the camera on a window sill looking into the back yard when I'm not using it as a webcam to watch the deer and birds that frequent my yard.

I'm sitting here with vertigo after trying to use this camera. It constantly goes in and out of focus any time something moves. Watching the video captured with this camera will make you very dizzy. Can't recommend it at all.

Will not record in 1080p as advertised. 720p is the highest for video. Still comes out clear and great for the price.

Camera is pretty good though the auto-focus is slow and it does take some effort to have it focus on close-ups; it seems to like to focus on background.My frustration is with the call button. The leaflet the camera came with specifically says you can reassign the call button to another function (default is to launch Windows Live Chat). I wanted it to trigger Skype. Looked everywhere... help files, website, Googled for it but could not find how to do this. Called customer support and, after wasting so much time on this they tell me you cannot do this. Then why write that you can on the enclose brochure? It reflects poorly on Microsoft's view of their customer base and their experience. Too bad...PROs:- Gave it 5 star for clear HD image, good low light performance and good color.CONs:- Subtracted 1 star for poor auto-focus.- Subtracted 1 star for background noise in audio (mic would have been probably better to be directional and facing the same way as the camera, not pointing up)- Subtracted 1 star because the lens cap keeps falling off- Subtracted 1 star because you cannot assign the call button to Skype- Subtracted 3 stars because they deceived in the brochure saying that you can and I wasted my time before I was told it is not trueTotal: 5-7 = -2 stars (which, of course, Amazon cannot show)

yeah all that ecitement for nothen let me tell u its a great webcam with great picture my issues lay in the fact that hd as of now is a joke on webcams,there is no way to up res without third party software and on top of that the third party software takes webcam feed and ups the res not truly hd in any regard.its not that i have a crappy computer with wrong software not the case i have 3.2 qaudcore with 16 gb of ram and a dx11 vga 560 ti overclocked video card so i should be able to record in hd but its sad really that they have to lie on package great cam if u want hd wait for awhile couse theese hd cams are far from real hd ty

I was expecting more from Microsoft but I guess I gave them too much credit this time. This camera is simply awful. First we begin with the software, the Lifecam software needs an urgent overhaul if it is to compete with Logitech. The settings menu is too complicated and you always have to go into advanced for a focus adjustment (which trust me, you'll have to do often). The effects are also bland and outdated, again, paling in comparison with Logitech's.Now the most frustrating thing about this camera has to be hands down the focusing. I can't believe how horrible this camera performs in this specific function. It is always moving out of focus and sometimes it can't even remain focused for a single minute before just becoming a mountain a blur again. I just cannot think that they spent the slightest amount of money in QA for this device before shipping it to the market. Looking for a camera? Look elsewhere.

I have been using a Logitech and had software issues with it on Windows 7 so I tried the from Microsoft and am thrilled with it. Just hands down better than the Logitech and no software issues.

Looked around for a while for a webcam for chatting with my wife while she in France, and it came down between the Lifecam Studio and the Logitech C910. I saw a couple of reviews demonstrating the Lifecam Studio and the Logitech C910 side by side. After seeing the reviews I decided to try the cheaper Lifecam Studio because it seemed to have better performance overall.I have had this camera for almost a month now, and this camera does not disappoint. This camera has better colors and adjusts its brightness in low light conditions better than the C910 seemed to. The auto focus is very responsive and the microphone is sensitive enough so that you don't have to raise your voice louder than normal speaking levels to be heard, and does an ok job cancelling out background noise.Don't let the "1080p HD" fool you. This does not record or display 1080p video. It only takes pictures in a 1080p resolution. But it does have a better output than any other camera on the market as of this review that I have seen.Overall, for the money, you won't find a better webcam with a better picture. The Lifecam Cinema has an ok picture and the microphone is almost as good, but for $15.00 more just buy the Lifecam Studio and get the top of the line. You won't have to buy another webcam for at least 5 years with this camera in my opinion.

I bought this with some hesitation because I really don't do much video anything. Well my sons & daughters do and all of them say it sends a perfect picture during our internet connections. It is truly easy to set up and use excellent buy.

Pros: Great image clarity. Not as "jerky" as most pc video cameras are with moving objects. Fun editing app with fun effects. Camera is in metal casing. Better then most in low light situations, although it does get a little "grainy".Cons: Auto focus feature is quite annoying. It will periodically (ranging every 3 - 5 minutes) "adjust" its focus, making entire image blur for several seconds, then comes back into very crisp focus, where it was before it auto focused itself. It would be better if the operator could tell it when to auto focus, maybe by clicking a button within the software, instead of it randomly doing it.Recommendation: What for it to be on sale. Personally, I would wait for 40% off or more before purchasing another. But would purchase another.

I've seen some webcam around and I've heard how much they paid. But when I saw this one over my friends house and the price he got it for, I knew I found what I wanted. So, after shopping around for prices I found it for less then what my friend paid. I told him and he got a little upset. Bottom line, he said he will now check prices thru Amazon.I love this camera. I travel a lot now and I get to talk to my wife and see her thru the computer. Great item, great price. That's why I gave it a 5 star.
