Once again, got a bit frustrated with my camera and decided not to film a review for this camera. Okay, I freely admit that that does not sound promising. That right now you could be thinking "Gee, if she aint gonna use it for a review cause it was too frustrating to use it must suck!" or "She must me a DOLT cause she can't figure the camera out." I personally, am leaning more towards the latter conclusion myself. :) I have spent considerable time making videos on this camera and trying to adjust it and use its features, but I have had numerous issues with it, but again, I am certain it is due to how much I suck with technology. I previously had two external cameras, the Logitech pro8000 and the pro9000, both which are pretty good cameras and I they are very easy to adjust the settings on and have pretty good add on software. The only major issues I had is that I am a singer (Go here for samples for videos done with the new and old cameras of cameras/mics [...]) and I am also broke and can't afford a good mic (trust me the ones I have bought aren't high enough quality to not go schizzo on me) so I usually just use the camera and the mics on those, and the mics on the logitech cameras are really good for only picking up your voice, I will give it that, but no matter how much I adjust them, the reverb is excruciating when I get loud or hit high notes (even without singing). The upside (and downside) to my new Microsoft LifeCam is that is does not give off high amounts of reverb (even without adjustment), the bad news is the amount of the background noise it picks up. Quite literally, it picked up my husbands heartbeat when he did sound test. I am not even kidding. lol Things I can't hear normally are picked up on that mic, it is kinda crazy, but trust me that is a minor complaint for me compared to my old cameras/mics. Seriously though, the software is, wait what software? I wish I could use my logitech software on this camera because it is terribly sub-par; there just isn't much there. It has a few things you can use to change your appearance and a few color options for the recording for the effects, which is fine I guess. I didn't care much about those so I really wasn't disappointed. As for the "tools", you can adjust the sound (which I didn't have to adjust much on this mic unlike the logitech camera mic), you can adjust the resolution, something about clear frame and I don't know what it means, I have been desperately trying to tell if that effects how bad the video synchronization is, but apparently that is not it (I'd also appreciate if you don't call me stupid, thanks. But feel free to give tips!), minimizaton of flicker (which I didn't find helped much), resultion adjustment, and sorry excuse for advanced settings. I got spoiled by the legitech cams abilities to adjust just about everything, and I am just not loving the software of this camera, but I suppose that's nothing new since unknown to me (I do not buy very many things from microsoft) they're software has always sucked. In terms of the camer itself, it is first rate and of a much higher quality than my logitech ones (although I'm tempted to switch back because I'm a novice and they were more idiot friendly due to easy and great software) and I would really recommend it extremely highly for those doing skype calls and things of that nature, it is not always amazing if you are moving around, but it is pretty awesome if you are mostly stationary and are talking or singing, I really have no complaints other than it keeps trying to refocus and I can't figure out how to turn it off. Seeing as I paid about the same for my Pro8000, in terms of the camera, this one wins hands down, no contest, but loses severely on the software. I have still yet to find the perfect web cam, and I probably never will, but I am happily contented with this one for now at least. :) God Bless ~Amy

I literally have a stack of a dozen or so webcams on my desk right now, and this one is my favorite. I've been testing them side by side to evaluate picture quality and compatibility with a wide range of software (it's a bit of a research project and the end result is that I'll be recommending one webcam to a lot of people).For the money I don't think there's a better USB webcam available right now. I find the Microsoft cameras to be widely compatible and very easy to install. Logitech's cameras are my second favorite over all but this little LifeCam is very good, and an excellent value at its price point. I have several more expensive cameras sitting right here that aren't as good.

I was looking for a WebCam to facilitate interactive communications with my and my wife's family, who are in the mid-west and southern states and are already using a WebCam.After checking out various WebCams (i.e. Logitech C905 and the 9000) at Best Buy, Office Max and Costco, I admit there are WebCams that are much better (and a bit more expensive). For the price I find the Life Cam VERY acceptable and with good resolution for my needs.The built-in mic is acceptable but could be considerably better. Again for for my needs. OK I'll work with it. Anything else and I'll use a different set-up.As I noted: This product... for what it was purchase for, I feel is a good buy. That is the hardware portion.The software portion is another story! I would think Microsoft could do MUCH better, but then again they did not put a lot of effort here. If you don't have a REAL fast processor with at least 2 Gig of memory, you might see some lag in the `lip-sync'. Some of this is correctable but I'm not giving a computer class, I'm rating this camera.All in all, I would recommend it to family and friends who want to use Skype, Facebook or other applications to keep in touch. There are better WebCams (and there are worse). This one fits a bit above the middle.

I teach university classes, and I regularly record my videos. I have a lifecam cinema and associated software. I routinely record hour+ videos, only to find that the software has dropped all but the last few minutes of the video. I have plenty of disk space, screen saver is off, and nothing else running on my laptop. This dropping of content is unacceptable, and I will now search for a full size HD video camera to replace this lifecam. :(

LifeCam software for Windows 8 would not work with AMD Radeon 4800 series driver. Use Windows supplied Radeon 4800 driver. Product works well.

I am not in the habit of rating any item I purchase with five stars because in my way of thinking there is always room for improvement, hence the four star rating. As for the camera, first of all it looks nice, its so much different than other web cams I've used. As far as it's operation goes it could not be any simpler. Once the two minute setup is completed by the enclosed software you're ready to use your new camera. The images from this camera are crystal clear and you could not ask for anything better. It has several resolution settings which is up to the user to decide which one to use. I love the self-focus feature and the "True Color Clear Frame" setting as well. I use my camera mostly as a surveillance camera which I have trained on my front door and the street. Even though a window pane this camera takes clear and beautiful video as well as still pictures. Well once I washed the window it did :). It is comparable to my 720p HD camcorder and is well worth the price. I have found there is not much difference between "720p HD" and "1080p HD" resolutions. From what I have observed 1080p creates a bigger file which takes up more room on your hard drive and of course costs more to begin with. So my advice is save your money and purchase this "720p HD" webcam, I doubt you will be disappointed with your decision.

Good Camera _ Great Price; wish that it had an alternate base when not used with a monitor. Picture quality is a 7 out of 10 in my opinion. There is some grainy qualities in the picture. For my purpose of occasional chats and watching the dogs, the camera works fine.

I'm writing this review mainly to ease suspicion about whether or not this product works with windows 7 64 bit or not. It seems that there was an issue with compatibility before. However, I recently received this product in the mail and it works with my 64 bit machine. The software and firmware are available through microsoft's website, provided below, so I didn't even bother using the CD. Worked like a charm right of out the box and I am sufficiently impressed with the video quality. Hope this helps others out there who were worried about win 7 and 64 bit compatibility.[..]

When I was tasked with purchasing a webcam for users to check out, I was concerned. I needed something that would work right out of the box. I have to say that I was very pleased with how easy this has been for my end-users to install and use quickly, with minimal IT involvement. This camera has allowed our training division to easily conference in the outlying stations, the Chief to video conference with other districts, as well as any other video communication that has been needed. Additionally, it has been a great addition to our video training team for creating appealing video content. Not having to worry about the technology has been a big help when putting together the training videos.

The resolution of the camera is very good and the microphone picks up very well. My biggest complaint is that no matter how you try to fold the stand, it will not attach to the laptop lid. I ended up using a spring-loaded clip to hold it in place.

This is my first and only webcam. It was easy to install and easier to use. The pictures are very clear and the connection is basically in realtime. You have to really wrangle it to get it to sit on top of the monitor, but it seems pretty sturdy once you get it up there. It takes clear video and clear pictures. I like that I can sit in front of it and take pictures. I use it with Oovoo and it works perfect.

This webcam is a very nice product. The way it looks 720p It's really a god upgrade from regular laptop built in webcams. Over this webcam is great, works well in low light, widescreen. Overall this is a nice webcam, Highly recommended it.

I find strange when people use the software that comes with products. It's only garbage that slows down the computer. Let's review this webcam for what it is.The image quality is OK but I was hoping for more. That is the reason I gave it 4 stars. Sure, I compared it against a real 1080p camcorder, but I was expecting a little more optical resolution and dynamic range with the colors.The cam has a very interesting "mount" that is made of some sort of flexible plastic that can keep its shape and adapt to the surface you want to mount it on; monitor, desk, I guess it can also easily mounted with a screw to a wall or similar. The qulity is very decent and the aluminum body is really good looking.I have tested it with a 5m USB "active" extension and it works perfectly; the cam uses the UVC driver and delivers YUYV (YUV 4:2:2) and MJPG formats. This is very common for this class of products.

I've used a Logitech webcam on and off for many years, usually with an IM messenger for video chatting. I recently upgraded to a Logitech C600 from a Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 WebCam. When I saw the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema, I chose to see which webcam was better suited for me.Microsoft's LifeCam Cinema offers true 720p 16:9 widescreen HD video at 30 frames per second. A digital noise canceling microphone improves speech quality for crystal clear audio. World-class optics provides auto focus and high precision glass element lens. Webcam effects either creatively distort the image or add items such as crazy hair styles or rabbit ears. Optimized for Windows Live Essentials, the webcam will easily upload photos to the Windows Live photo gallery for editing and sharing, videos can be edited using Windows Live Movie Maker then uploaded to social networking sites, plus pressing the Windows Live call button located on the top of the webcam effortlessly starts a video call.The cheesy webcam effects either distort the entire view while others identify and manipulate the head's location. The addition of hats or hair find placement and follow the head very well, however if your head isn't wide enough, a gap between the head and effect is clearly obvious. Logitech's effects are different, but perform much better.The software is simple to install and use. The settings and effects section can be shown or hidden with the click of a long narrow button on the right hand side. Below the viewing area are three buttons so one can quickly record a video, record a message, or snap a picture. Created files are shown in a thumbnail strip located at the bottom. Files can be emailed, or shared by clicking small square buttons, or deleted by clicking a tiny x button. Right clicking thumbnails is not an option if the buttons are visually too small.The LifeCam's flexible stand is the best design I've seen on a webcam. Made of a single flexible strip, the stand will hold the cam freestanding on a tabletop or molded to a perfect fit on a flat screen monitor. The C600's rigid stand can also be used freestanding and adapts to flat screen monitors, but doesn't mold into a perfect fit.A side by side comparison showed the LifeCam has a sharper and more accurately colored image, however had more trouble adjusting to minor light changes with more noise in darker areas. The Logitech C600 had no problems keeping up with the lighting, but has a softer, less saturated look.Video playback on the LifeCam uses the default player, unlike the Logitech C600 which requires Windows Media Player to view video from the software. Software isn't forced onto the user even though Microsoft suggests their software solutions. The LifeCam can only be used in wide screen format though.When comparing the two webcams, it's difficult to identify which is better. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. The effects are not important to me, but being able to video chat with family and friends is. This is possible with both webcams. Microsoft's software is simple to use and may be better suited to those who are technically challenged or don't make numerous adjustments.
