I ordered this webcam to replace my old one which was abused by my kids, so my review is based on comparison to the old one.This webcam itself is actually very tiny, the unit feels cold and seems to be made of metal. Upon finishing installation and seeing picture displayed on the monitor, my wife and I were both surprised by its clear and sharp image quality. And the other good thing I did not know before purchase is the lens have Auto Focus, which is really neat. The picture is in wide-screen ration (not sure 16:9 or 16:10 or whatever) if using the enclosed software, but it looks in normal ration on MSN messenger.My webcam is mainly used for my kids and parents to talk and see each other. My old one and my parents' webcam are the same model. After I switched to the new one, my parents also see better image on the other side.In overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

We have not used the new web cam very much yet, but it was easy to install and works very well. Not an obvious attachment to our computer.

After searching for a decent webcam, I decided to purchase this Microsoft cam. I am going to be honest and let you know that I occasionally get burned by products that are sub-par, but this time I actually made a good choice. The fact that this is an HD webcam under $60 that features a small lightweight metal body and a stand/monitor grip that actually works is amazing. I knew right out of the gate this wasn't going to be the superbad HD crystal clear in all lighting super duper camera, but it comes close. So, if you are lookng for a great cam for maybe skype/youtube/podcasts or other online video chatting software then this is a good deal for a solid camera.

Setup was pretty easy. I didn't use all of the required programs (Microsoft Messenger) as we use Skype. It came with some cool software that could change the way you look or put hair/hats/glasses on you. That part isn't useful but it is fun for you and the person you are calling.It was good for a laugh. You could zoom and tilt the camera without physically moving it. I almost bought the Logitech but it was almost twice the money and I am pretty happy with the Lifecam. One thing that seems silly. I didn't realize the stand it's mounted on bends. There is nothing in the instructions that reflects that (that I can recall). I found out by accident that it can be moulded to fit over the top of the screen like Logitech's version. Hope this helps.:)

This product seems to work pretty well. My main complaint is that sometimes I have a hard time getting it to turn on. This may be an issue with having signed up with Skype and also Gmail video chat.

I just bought this cam on Amazon. It was at a good price and I got free 2 day shipping (and no tax of course).Installation is easy, and it worked right away. I think it looks great and is very small which I like. Picture quality is fantastic, very clear, sharp, and bright. It works much better than my old Logitech Orbitcam in low light. It works with all the programs I have that can use a webcam, and the picture quality is great.The only problem I've had so far was when I disabled the cam's built-in mic. Sometimes I play music online and I need to use Creative Labs "What U Hear", mics need to be disabled when I do this so there is no background noise. When I disabled the mic the Microsoft cam software could no longer connect to the cam, I would get a 'cam not connected' error. The cam would still work with other programs, but the Special Effects/Settings window would not come up. I didn't realize what the problem till I uninstalled the software and drivers and reinstalled. You should be able to disable the mic (in the control panel) without impacting the cam.Overall, I love this cam. Great price, looks great, and has a great picture.

I use it with Skype, out of the box, skype doesn't recognize this as a HQ camera and will not do 16:9 format.I had to google to find a hack to force skype to accept this as a HQ webcam.. works great in widescreen format once you do the simple hack..I have a core 2 duo 2.2 ghz dell laptop with 2GB of memory, if I play with it in 720P and with video effects, the performance of the computer is effected. Anything lower than that it and works great even with video effects.I have Logitech Orbit MP and the video effects of the lifecam cinema is much much faster than Logitech and of course the quality of lifecam is also very superior compared to the Logitech Orbit which I used before.Works great in low or even no light, just the light from the laptop is enough for this webcam...

Best webcam ever!! For this price it's just amazing!! Trust me.Pictures are very high quality, in fact, 2 of my recent profile pictures on facebook were taken with it.Excellent quality on Skype:)The only thing I found surprising that it doesn't have effect (not faces, but like b&w, sepia) but that's okay.I just use [...] :)I def. recommend this webcam, meaningful waste of money:)

Hello All,I have purchased and tried an number of web cameras, so I was skeptical this was going to be any better than the rest but I decided to try it. Mostly because I just upgraded to Windows 7 and I wanted a camera that could take advantage of the new OS.After one week I have to tell this camera blows everything away! It is so clear and crisp that I still can not believe it. The LIVE CAM tools that come with it are great too. You can add funny effects to the images that others can see during a web session. Also with this camera you are getting a very wide frame versus other web cams that I have tried. This is great when you want to get 3 or four people in the picture with you.To date I have had about 20 web cam sessions with this camera and everyone is raving about the improvement on the sound quality. So I would also say big improvements in that too.Lastly I love the flexible mounting stand. This is a huge improvement over the other web cams that have a plastic clip. Because it is rubber coated and flexible you can easily place the camera anywhere you need.I highly recommend this web camera for anyone. You might pay a little bit more but it well worth the investment.

This was not quite plug and play, but very nearly. It was easy to install, easy to use, and looks very attractive. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a middle-tier webcam, especially someone unfamiliar with their use and installation (or was I the last one left?)

This cam reminds me of the original iSight, so, when I caught a deal on it I bought it. Looks great, and 720p ain't nothing to sneeze at. I plugged it into my Mac Mini's USB port, and of course, it just worked. iSpQ & QuickTIme Player are the only two apps I have used so far, but all of the standard Mac video interfaces are supported. My only issue with this widescreen camera is that is squished to 4:3 in iSpQ. True, I look thinner, but, that's the only issue I have so far. In QuickTime Player, I can record widescreen movies directly from the camera, but, I don't think the video is very sharp at all.Update: BTV Pro (Carbon) works, but, not well. Also, it appears that the widescreen issue noted above is not easily resolved.

Microsoft has dropped the ball on so many other products I was a little skeptical of the LifeCam at first. However, on Windows 7 the install was a breeze and I found the software to be useful enough for everyday operations. I was a little worried it was going to require me to use Windows Live Essentials, but you can skip that part of the install and just use the camera as you wish.Quality is pretty good, didn't have any of the issues I've had with other cameras (poor motion blur, delay, off white balance, washout).The real surprise was when I plugged it into my Debian Linux box and got it working using the motion package.

I love this product! I bought one for my parents who are in thier Seventies. They love it and fine it easy to use wit a quality far better than there friends competeing brand web cam. I did have to help them over the phone to follow the installation. The picture quality and sound or Microphone is very very good. I often use it in a mode slightly below the HD setting. I use it with Microsoft Live mainly and have used it on other services, it works great. Remember to only have one program open at a time that uses or looks for the web cam, only one program can see the web cam and you may think it is not working if two programs try to find the web cam. The audio in a big room on this Cam is fantastic. You still have to have good video conferencing manors for the best experience, good lighting, speak one person at a time and do not move to fast. I use a wireless link to my router and the picture quality and sound over a 54 MPs is great.

I compared this head to head with the Logitech C905 and the 9000 and both of them were vastly better. Specifically, they offered much better focus ability and true color rendering. The Microsoft camera kept focusing on the wall behind me, and even when I used manual focus it was never really sharp. The Logitech cameras were much sharper and focused on me, not things behind me. I was surprised since the ratings on the LifeCam Cinema are really high, but it's simply not a great HD camera unless you haven't used anything else.

This camera is fantastic in every way... except one very annoying one. It has significant autofocus issues. You can have the camera positioned against a perfectly stationary object in perfect lighting, and the autofocus will still have trouble locking on and staying focused. After finding a significant number of other reports of this issue by other users, I have since returned the camera to Amazon.com. Microsoft did release an updated driver that was supposed to address this issue, but I still experienced it after having installed it. If Microsoft can resolve this issue, then this is easily a 5-star, recommended camera.

Over a good connection, this product is way better than other LifCam's. When the connection is less than near perfect, the picture is just as good as less expensive LifCam's. Still, I'm glad I bought it. It's great, easy to use, and small.

This is a very good HD camera for the price. I'd buy it again and recommend to others.Installation was easy and it worked on Skype the first time.The only problem I found is that the Microsoft LifeCam software that came in the CD does not work properly in my Windows XP and I have not figured out how to make it work yet (mostly because I only use the camera for Skype calls and do not have any pressing need to use the software). Tried uninstalling and re-installing and no luck.

The Microsoft LifeCam Cinema was purchased to be used as a cheap HD camera with two video editors: Corel Video Studio Pro X2 and Sony Vegas Home Studio Platinum Pro Pack. With Corel, I did not get HD performance. The Sony product does NOT support USB cameras at all. Back to Corel's editor, it was grainy and jerky and did not sync audio and video well at all. It seems that this camera is only for use as a communications camera such as Skype, Messenger, etc. It will not be useful for making videos. Note also that the microphone was not adequately picked up by Corel's editor except for one time. I don't understand how the software works in relation to the camera but don't like it and am returning the software and keeping the camera for Skype use. Plan to purchase a real video camcorder, like the Canon VIXIA HG21. But the video is very good, very sharp when used as intended.

Length:: 3:11 MinsSummary: It's a great product, but the software is lacking. It does require a lot of processing power to produce decent videos, so do everything you can to let the capture software have all of the processing power.For reference, I was using an AMD Athlon 64 XP Dual Core 6400+ CPU with 4GB of RAM when recording this video. I am running the software on a Windows XP 32-bit machine.This video was recorded with minimal software interference, but I'm also happy with the quality of the processing for low-light conditions. In this case, I was looking to get the best motion performance, so I turned off all of the auto features in order to get the best picture with the light I was using.As you will hear in the video, the built-in microphone isn't terrible, but it does have a pretty high noise floor. That is fine if you're using Skype, but lousy if you are trying to record higher quality videos. In this video, I used the Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Condenser USB Microphone (except for the built-in mic demo).All in all, it's a great webcam for producing online videos. If you don't have external software, or don't have a top of the line computer, there may be a webcam that does what you need without so much hassle. For high quality stuff, this may well be the best hardware on the market.

I was surprised after researching web cams, that there was a greater range of features that you can expect a cam to have. The Microsoft web cam installed into Windows 7 pro with no software driver support needed, there is the included Cd that has some extra tools, but you will notice that they will be out of date, and better left to downloading from the internet. The main purpose for this came was to host a ustream show, and it does a great job with that, and the auto focus feature is great. Skype and other web chat features are seamless (depending on internet speeds), and the 720P mode looks fantastic, but remember that 720P HD must be supported by the web/video provider. Next to that rest assured that this is a great product that can stand up to all of the other web cams with no issues.PRO's1. lightweight2. Glass covered lens3. Long USB cable4. I record 5-10 minute videos for our church website for our parishioners and they look great using this camera. The software is very easy to use, does everything I need it to for simple video, Skype, and messanger. The picture quality and sound quality are great.The only down side is you need to make sure your computer meets the requirements to run HD video. On my two year old computer (Toshiba, 2 GB ram, average video card) I could only record very low quality video or it would skip and drop frames. This isn't Microsofts fault though, the hardware needs for HD quality are what they are.If you are looking for a camera, I highly recommend it!

Hi!I bought this camera to compare against the EyeBall 2.0 HD. Unfortunately, the auto features do not work very well on a Mac. I tried using this camera with a MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.6.2. The camera was recognized, and if used in place of the iSight, it worked well. However, if the light shifted or you moved the camera, it would not auto-anything and the picture would come in way too bright, way too saturated, or way too washed out.I am not a Microsoft hating, Mac Fan Boy (I use a MSFT wireless mouse 5000 on a daily basis). Just a guy trying to find a decent external web cam (with optical zoom if possible) to use with my MBP.I've read other places online that people have made this webcam work with their macs, but it appears it's only for Skype or vid-IM purposes.-j

WORKS GREAT USING on a MAC BUT it can not use the extra software unfortunately that is for PCsPlug and play , literallyrecords high defwide screen 16x9works DRAMATICALLY better than built in eyesight cameraWe use to keep eyes on the little one thereby making it a baby monitorand it is GREAT !!!Its many uses make it an A for us!

This is by far the best webcam I have purchase. This thing work with all my computers including my Ubuntu Linux computer. Very good video quality for a webcam. I won't replace your HD camcorder but it does video web call very well. You will need a fast processor to run HD video on Linux and Windows.

A surprisingly good piece of equipment. Well made, small, elegant.Easy to install (Win7), works as promised, delivers clean pictures, works well in low light.Auto focus works very well also, you just set it and forget it!Built in mike is also good.Settings are rather limited but adequate (that is why I gave it only 4 stars), I really miss the face tracking option of my Creative web cam.At $50 it blows away cameras nearly twice the price, I definitely recommend it.

My computer is 5 years old with 1.5mb of ram running XP Pro. Upon initial startup, the software indicate that I had problems and would not tell me what to do.... I was frustrated and was going to send it back. However,I started to tinker around and I guess I found the right button and the image appeared on my screen. On my wifes new computer (Win7), the software loaded without problem and works great. I use the camera for Skype and the picture is sharp and the audio is good enough.

The cam I got auto focuses every 10 seconds, it completely blurs everything out then refocuses again. its a bug. its supposed to be addressed in the latest hardware patch. I patched the firmware and the cam still does it.Way to fix it? Turn off Truecolor in the options -> adjust the advanced properies, go into camera control and unclick auto focus, adjust it yourself. Yes this sucks because if you need the autofocus you no longer have it, but it makes the camera usable.. this gets 3 stars. halfway between completely worthless and a good HD cam. If you get one that works? for under 50 bucks, a decent deal.

My girl friend forced me to buy a good webcam and after postponing it for a few months I had to give in and upgrade my 5$ webcam with this. Got a very good deal on amazon.Ive been using it for the last 1 month and what Ive found out so far...Pro's-Excellent Video quality.Low light exposure is good.The stand is pretty easy to mount on a lappy and is stable too.Looks cool.ConsSometimes I see a smudge on the image,it clears itself in a second.Should have given a carrying case along. Overall, Id recommend it.My girlfriend just loves the image quality!! Maybe I shud start listening to my girl ;)

The camera it self work very good. The instalation of software it easy but never complete.I can't use the full power of software at all. Even after I search microsoft blogs on the subject an I download a new driver from (recomanded by) microsoft,stel the software refuse to fuly instal or work. I can use only Skype , no other similar programs work.Like usualy microsoft create problems to make you dependent on them. I bet you if I use theyr paid service, the problems will be solve. No more microsoft for me.With out Skype program I can't even use the camera at all.

The cam images are clear and detail is good. The built in cam's resolution in my Dell laptop was too low, and in low light movement was jerky and worthless to use when trying to sign with a deaf friend on line. This one meets all expectations and allows me to communicate by signing, works great with Skype as well. The flexible mount allows it to attach to the screen on my laptop or sit on it's own base in just about place I choose. No buyer's remorse here!

This camera works very well, as advertised. It looks nice and produces outstanding video and still captures. Just one caveat: DO NOT try to run it through an external USB 2.0 hub, even a powered one. I experienced sluggish operation and regular crashes when trying to do this. When I plugged it directly into a motherboard USB 2.0 port, however, everything cleared up and it worked great. I can't say that it will fail to operate in ALL USB hubs under ALL circumstances, of course, but I had trouble with my setup, so beware of this.

I bought this camera so I could record internal training videos for my team, but it's an embarassment. There's no way that I would send out this captured video - it looks like the junk video one gets from an old mobile phone. Any motion results in horrible smear, and even on my brand new dual core Dell E6400 laptop the HD capture mode is almost unusable. If I wanted to lug around a dual quadcore server just to capture video, I'd be MUCH better off spending my money on any consumer video camera and hooking it up via firewire. In fact, my junky 10 year old Sony camcorder hooked up via the firewire port on the Dell looks ten times better at SD than any mode I've tried on this LifeCam gadget. The sound doesn't sync well with the picture at high resolutions, either.I guess maybe this thing is better than the free camera that's built into the Dell laptop, but not by much and certainly not worth the expense. When they said HD video, I assumed that one could actually move around while shooting, but apparently not. How was this thing ever released from Microsoft's QA labs? Do I need to hook up a $15,000 Dell R710 with a $30,000 RAID system in order to capture HD? (I'm actually going to try that next week to see if that's the problem...)

Got this camera for Skype calls with friends. Just plug in, adjust your sound settings so the default is the camera and you are ready to go. Works great. Video is excellent as is the sound pick up for audio.

I purchased this camera to replace an existing webcam (I use the camera as a security cam), and upgrade the picture quality.The picture quality is very good, and the camera's small profile is great.However ... motion detection requires a separate software, and the camera software conflicts with my motion detection software. The solution: using the existing motion detection software, and activating the camera thru that software, giving me a much better picture quality for security, but being unable to use the other features of the camera's own software (mainly, magnification). Ironically, the frequently changing "autofocus" feature, works fine, but sets off my motion detector - since it sees the re-focus as action. THAT forced me to use a 1 second delay in my motion sensor software.Additionally, I had to "block out" the blue dot that appears when viewing thru the window (my other camera had the power-on indicator on the top, and did not present this problem). However, the "block-out" of the blue light, using the field setting from the old software, works.Overall, because of the picture quality, I'm happy with the purchase, in spite of the "rigging".

The camera is definately high end;however it freezes constantly with Skype.The picture quality is good, when it works.It does not go into HD with Skype.The camera is horrible with low light, it basically is not useable with low light.I saved my horrible logitech easy/cool quickcam which works decent in low light, so at night I will swich to that camera.Had I paid $100 for this camera it would be returned.However, I got it off Amazon for $50 and it has the best technology so I believe my problem is not with the camera itself but with Skype.I would recommend this camera half the time.The other half of the time I want to throw it out the window.By the way, my laptop is pretty good, not highest quality but it's vista, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2.0GHz, 250GB hard drive, and 3GB memory. If you have better specs and see this camera work better for Skype please review.Also, many people on here use Skype in low light and do not report problems. Why???

We were shopping around for a quality camera to skype with our family and friends. All of their videos appear pixelated and unclear. This camera gives you the best quality for sound AND picture. Everyone on the other side was impressed - and have now also ordered the same camera.When shopping, we found the logitech version at $100+ - but this camera for under $50 is a steal!Easy to setup, very easy to use - and the fact that it self adjusts makes it better.If you're shopping for a high quality web cam - this is your best bet at the absolute best price.

This HD camera is the easiest camera I 've had.Using Windows 7, just plug it in , some seconds to aporpiate installation and Voil?, Ready to enjoy it.Then used with Skype I saw the same blurry image, but the other side saw me wonderful quality (first time)Don't hesitate to buy this camera it's amazing (and nice to have it in my screen)Regards

Much cheaper than the top end Logitech model and works great with Skype. It is MUCH smaller than I thought it was going to be which was a pleasant surprise.The only negative is there is no physical cover to block the lens to prevent accidental video transmission. My previous Logitech Quickcam had a cover which is nice because sometimes the camera is automatically turned on by a program or maybe you mistakenly click the "video call" button instead of the "call" button. It is also possible that someone else can turn on your camera if they have access to your computer for technical support or through LogMeIn type programs. Next thing you know, you are on Youtube picking your nose or something like that.

Other then using 100% of my CPU and lagging my computer, it works good. I really like the autofocus and auto light adjusting features. The microphone easily picks up my voice for skyping. I was trying to record my monitor to make an instructional video, but it could not pick up the details very well. My desktop is 4 years old and currently has 3GB of RAM and 1.66 MHz processor, so now I'm looking into upgrading.

I use this webcam primarily for video chat on Messenger and Skype. It's important to me that my kids' grandparents and relatives can see my kids with a clear image. This is definitely one of, if not the best, webcam I have used for this purpose. Microsoft has done some things right with their latest release. The video quality is great, especially when looking at low light performance. The webcam handles well-lit rooms and poorly-lit rooms very well. It is impressive how well the video shows up in low light. The other improvement that is welcome is the reduction in motion smear (what Microsoft calls Clear Frame).While I don't typically use the webcam to create videos, I have tried it and this probably shows off the HD capabilities best. I found video editing using Movie Maker to be really simple as well.The value for the money is great. I got this camera on sale for under $60. Even at $79, this is a great value. I am very happy with my purchase. The video quality is definitely improved; however, I just am waiting to have the ability to use the full HD capabilities for my video chats.

I really had high hopes for this camera after reading so many positive reviews. Unfortunately the camera would not work on my Vista laptop. I installed it fine on my XP desktop, but it just refuses to work on my laptop. The video seemed to be very good on my desktop, and I was impressed with the auto focus and sharpness, however since I bought it for use with my laptop it gets one star

On the plus side for this camera, it is very easy to setup and install. I think at most that installation took maybe 15 minutes. The resolution of the picture it great and it works well with skype.I do have 2 gripes however.1. The little stand is pathetic. At least on my desk it tips over a lot.2. The auto white balance does a poor job in adapting to lighting conditions. I have yet to find a setting for custom white balancing, so given the room lighting, everything looks too orange.For a windows users, who wants a basic webcam,I still think this is good value for the money. If they would just have given it a bigger base or a mounting clamp, I would give it 4 stars.

This is one of the best webcams available today. We conduct online video lectures frequently using this HD webcam. The video quality has been superb. It performs better than many expensive camcorders in a very low light situation.

I bought this to communicate with my parents who live 150 miles away. In the past, I would only get to see them a few times a year. Now we setup a Skype call about once a week and the whole family can see and talk to each other. The nice thing about it is you can show them things and with a laptop, you can walk around the house to show them something in the house. In terms of the 720P capability, I believe it provides a better video for the person watching on the other computer. I definetly recommend getting a video cam to communicate with friends and family.
