При запуске программы Microsoft LifeCam появляется чёрное окошко, там написано подключение и через несколько секунд программа закрывается и ничего не происходит. Подскажите, пожалуйста, как это исправить.

Приобрел на днях данный девайс, до этого были камеры, но меня не устраивали по качеству изображения. У этой камеры изображение меня очень устраивает - просто супер. P.S Насчет ежика в тумане считаю ерундой, автофокус работает на все 5.

Сегодня зашел в магазин и попросил включить две по очереди веб камеры. Первая Logitech Pro 9000 и вторая Microsoft MSCR-LC. Так вот, по качеству изображения, по фокусировке Logitech Pro 9000 оказался полным отстоем!!! Хорошо что я её не купил. В понедельник буду покупать MSCR-LC.

- - При видео звонках, также при записи видео она помимо голоса пишущего также записывает квакающий звук, который непонятно откуда и непонятно как убрать.

I baught this webcam for using skype and to be able to use for taking pictures when no one could take pictures of me i was hoping the pictures would look a lot better then the webcam i had which was logitech and was a couple years old and also got it for taking videos to post on youtube. It arrived quickly very quicker then expected and the packaging was a lot differant then what was shown and expected which i found slightly strange it was in a smaller box but no complaints about the seller for the most part but issues with the webcam. To start off this webcam did not come with software i had to find it online which i do not like doing because of the risk of viruses and on top of that when i first tryed to take a video with it it froze half way through so i had to restart the program and it worked but only let me take one video then did it again very frustrating the audio often cuts in and out after i take one video i have to restart the program each time if i want to take another one right after even more frustrating. I would have to say the audio/ microphone when it is not cutting out is actually better then i expected and the pictures are deffinatly more pixelized then i expected also but still better then my old webcam, works great on skype though not a single issue with it and skype microphone crystal clear on other end can hear you perfect and video is pretty good does not seem to lag a lot on skype and is pretty clear imaging. all in all a couple problemes in my opinon annoying problemes i would not buy this again but i will use it untill it breaks also the design of it i was very impressed by seems very sturdy made of like metal kind of feeling not plastice which is nice and webcam is a lot smaller then shown. I would recomend this product to thoughs who want to have great audio and picture quality when skyping but that is about it.

I bought this web cam because the built-in one for my windows laptop was extremely bad. I just wanted a quality camera for video chatting or the occasional recorded video. This camera is pretty awesome. Like others have said before, the product picture makes the camera look quite large but it smaller than it appears.The first thing I want to mention is the physical device. None of the parts feel cheap at all, the body is metal, the foot is rubber, the cord isn't great but better than most. The foot flexes easily and holds it shape, it feels solid when you finish posing it as you like. Speaking of the foot, this camera is capable of resting just about anywhere from a laptop screen, to a crt monitor, to freestanding on a desk. Combine the versatile foot with the ability to swivel and tilt the camera in a large range of movement means this camera goes wherever you want.The camera was a snap to install, it is plug and play at least for my Windows 7 Home Premium. I decided to install the bundled software so I can record video and play with deeper settings. The software can be a little resource intensive but as long as you stay away from the big-head filters and such you should be fine with any computer in the last 4-6 years.The video chat quality is top-notch. I used to have trouble in low light conditions with my last webcam, not so for this one. It easily manages to capture video in all but the dimmest of conditions. Even in a dark room, the light from the monitor is enough to capture video from. The automatic color balance makes everything pop nicely. The microphone picks up voice nicely, no complaints there.One problem I, and many others, have had is the autofocus. By default the camera will try and refocus a perfectly fine image. I would test it by sitting in front of it motionless and it would still try and adjust for a better focus and the image would end up looking exactly the same. Do yourself a favor and turn it off, it focuses fine without it.I would whole-heartedly recommend this web cam for the casual user.Pros:+Moderate size+Excellent build quality+Can be placed just about anywhere+Video quality is great even in low light situationsCons:-Autofocus is a nuisance-Included camera software is resource intensive

Bought this camera with the sole intention of using it at home hooked directly to the PC. Man does it deliver very high quality video and picture clarity. Almost like the first time you ever turned on an HD TV and saw the crispness of the picture. For the price I think it is an excellent buy.The only "minor" thing I've noticed is the clarity of the sound that comes over my speaker set. Could be the setting that I have for listening to music isn't the best for SKYPE. It sounds "hollow" but that is fine.Once I plugged it in, my Vista 64bit was trying to download the software. I said wait til later. No Problem. Out of the box was great. I had already loaded SKYPE in prep for this but I had to enable the mic on the camera. Video worked but mic was not "on" by default. I think I also changed screen size too.Loading the software about a week later was painless also. My kids love those styles. We don't use them much. I think I'm going to trying sending a video email and see how that works. A small test of course to my non SKYPE contacts.Great camera and low price = happy customer!

This camera produces a great picture for video chatting, and the mic is surprisingly good.I have this set up in my living room to video chat from my HTPC. The camera features digital zoom, and pan and tilt when zoomed, so it was a snap to get an ideal frame to include the right portion of my living room. The picture is excellent, even in low light.The mic picks up wonderfully throughout the room, and clearly from as far as 10 feet away. The sound is reported to be very good from far the far end, and we are clearly understood.This is a small and powerful camera that does a great job.This camera was plug and play, it was up and running immediately on Windows 8 with the LifeCam software, there was nothing to install, it just worked, and looked great at default settings. I have to say, as an IT professional, that it's exceedingly rare for something to work so good right out of the box. This required the same amount of technical expertise to get working as a thumb drive.The software is a little uninspiring. The video effects are fun and clever I suppose, but there are no options for mirroring, or for rotating the image. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for that.

First webcam I've ordered, works fine in the traditional sense of what a high quality webcam should do (hence the 4 stars). However, I wanted to try it as a cheap surveillance cam so I pointed outside my window. I can get 30fps (frames per second) only during the day and at resolutions @ 640x360 or under. Any higher resolution causes the fps to drop to 10fps. At night (pointed outdoors) I can't seem to get it above 10fps on any resolution. I've used the Microsoft Life Cam software, windows movie maker, VLC, as well as Blue Iris. Running windows XP 32bit. Default codec stays on YUY2 even when I try to switch to MJPG. I'll keep the cam around but wanted more from it.I'll admit that since this is my first webcam I may just not understand the settings enough, feel free to post in commits with any tips & tricks. If I can get it to 1280x720 @ 30fps daytime or 640x360+ @ 30fps nighttime (pointing outdoors) then I'll bump this review up to 5 stars.Tips: Turn off auto-focus for overall improved fps. Turn off auto exposure & playing with the scale seems to help a bit for nighttime fps. Uninstall lifecam software and change the driver for the webcam to USB video device instead of lifecam cinema.

Update this camera is still good for all the reasons I state. HOWEVER ALERT!!!! THIS IS ANOTHER DUMB MICROSOFT PRODUCT THAT ASSUMES EVERY COMPUTER EVERY WHERE FOR EVERY USE MUST ALWAYS HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION. IF THE COMPUTER YOUR WISH TO USE THIS COMPUTER ON DOES NOT HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER THIS PEICE OF GARBAGE PRODUCT'S SOFTWARE WILL NOT INSTALL. THE SOFTWARE DISK MUST CONNECT WITH SOME BIG BROTHER 1984 SERVER OUT THERE IN CYBERSPACE BEFORE YOU CAN USE YOUR CAMERA. If you do not have internet service on the computer the camera will use BUY another camera skip this garbage because; without an internet connection the install software disk is useless.Ok the box containing the camera was delivered to my door. Picked it up, when I got home and went inside. I am autistic and don't like waiting when I get a new technical toy. I opened the box. I did not need amazon's EZ Open service because; this camera box was amazingly easy to open but I am a passion driven geek!Anyways in just a few minutes the camera was out out its box. The CD was in the CD ROM drive and I was installing the camera's drivers. It had a bunch of online only drivers to add that I think is stupid not to place on the CD for people who lack internet or have very slow internet service. Microsoft must assume all their customers are as rich and well connected as their founder.Anyways I start the driver setup from the CD, Stuff starts loading... At a certain point the install process tells me to connect the USB camera and I do so. The install process continues. Next an online added options dialogue box appears I am prompted to select the additional features I want to access and I do so and continue the online portion of the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema accessory application install process. The online install process continues and in about 5 minutes the entire installation was complete and I press Finished. The whole install is OVER with, No hiccups, no driver errors, no install drama, no screwy messages of any kind. Finally at the end of the install I had to push a button that said driver install finished. What was most shocking was no reboot was required... Why this is abject lunacy it is known in every universe that all Microsoft Windows products require a reboot if you change even the smallest things even if the change only involves your own mind. Wow now thats a Microsoft innovation I can learn to love!So next I fire up the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema software on my Windows 7 Dell system that has a very basic NVidia video card and sound card. I have 2 very sharp clear Viewsonic VGA flat monitors that are older than dirt. My Dell has 8 Gig's of RAM Memory, One TB of hard disk space and is runing Windows 7 Home 64 bit edition. The picture quality in normal lighting conditions is so awesome it blew my hair back. The color quality is so awesome I felt as if my computer screen was a mirror looking out into my room and not a monitor. The colors were sharp, clean rich and bright with no fade, no flicker, no snow, no fuzz or no video artifacts. Audio was NOT first rate but was much better than any low end CAM I used before.I have 3 or 4 Microsoft VX3000 units whose picture quality is just plain dog aweful compared to this Microsoft LifeCam Cinema camera. The audio quality of the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema is a great improvement over the terrible sound quality of the 4 Microsoft VX3000 cams I brought. If you want ok sound quality and awesome video quality skip the cheap Microsoft VX3000 camera that look like little eyeballs they low end junk that are a complete waste of money in both picture in sound quality. I only wish someone had told me to avoid the Microsoft VX3000 and 5000 series cameras. When I saw the picture quality of the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema I was so impressed that I immediately put two more Microsoft LifeCam Cinema in my cart to buy because YES they are that good. I want a Microsoft LifeCam Cinema on every computer (3) total in my home. I seldom go this gaga over a product but when something is good I love saying so.

Don't buy this unless you buy it from Amazon, where you can return it (like I had to).Even though auto-zoom is not checked in the properties/camera-control panel, the camera suddenly switches to maximum zoom erratically in the middle of Skype calls. The only remedy is to terminate the call and remake it, which works until the camera again switches to maximum zoom. I have a plain-Jane Acer laptop with System 7. This camera behavior is unacceptable. I'm sending it back.I'm not too unhappy about sending it back; as I use the webcam for Skype calls I couldn't detect any improvement over my built-in webcam. Sure, if I were using it to make home pictures or videos it probably would be better, but I don't use it that way.By the way, installation of the software is a pain. You have to go to Microsoft and download a package which contains programs I don't want such as as Windows Live Mesh, Windows Live writer, and several others. This is Microsoft's marketing department forcing you to install their programs for their own purposes and make you have a Microsoft login number. No thanks. I'll find another good webcam.

I had a problem installing the software. I don't like to install software if I don't have to and I often use a spare computer for testing purposes. This camera came with a notice telling me to install the software BEFORE I first plug in the camera. I did this on my spare computer and it worked fine. Then on my main computer I plugged in the camera first. The camera works fine without any software but the included software is nice so I then tried to install it. It wouldn't let me, telling me "Setup cannot continue because the downloaded file was not digitally signed by Microsoft. Please try again later." So I downloaded a version of the LifeCam software from Microsoft's web site and was able to install that. Later I had problems with the sound synchronizing with the picture. To fix it I had to uninstall the software and go into the device manager and remove the camera drivers (that get installed when you just plug in the camera). Then I installed the software first, then the camera. Now the sound synchronization problem is fixed. I can't say for certain that any of these problems were due to plugging in the camera before the software. Maybe they tell you that you have to install the software first because they are afraid you will never install the software when you figure out you don't need it.The LifeCam software allows you to make a video and save it as a .wmv file. This is easier than using a video camcorder because you can instantly play back your recording, there is no need to first transfer the file to your computer. It was with this feature that I had the sound synchronizing problem. My computer is a 3 GHz quad core so computer speed is not an issue. When I was searching for a solution to the sound synchronizing problem I found that you cannot record in the higher resolution modes if your computer is not fast.Overall I am very happy with the camera. I use it mostly for Skype. The first thing that happened is that the person I was Skyping complained that the image "jumped." What is happening is that the auto focus keeps trying to stay in focus and when it moves the focus the field of view changes slightly. I disable the auto focus for this reason, and also because it basically sucks. It spends most of the time being out of focus. You can even see that it sucks in the Microsoft demo video they made (on YouTube). One problem is that it won't remember that I don't want auto focus. I have to disable it every time I reboot my computer.The picture quality can be very good with good lighting. The camera works well in low lighting (it is bright enough but the picture quality is not as nice). With good lighting you can tell that the lens quality is the limiting factor. A more expensive lens would improve the picture somewhat. Most people won't notice.There is a button on the camera. When you push the button it automatically brings up Microsoft's version of Skype (Windows Live Messenger). I don't have that installed. Once while using Skype I took the camera off of my monitor so I could point the camera around the room and I accidentally pushed the button and it caused me to be disconnected from Skype.The built in microphone works pretty good too.I have not been able to get more than 640x480 when using Skype. My Internet upload speed is around 1.2 Mbps which is the lower limit for 1280x720 on Skype. I have not Skyped with anyone with near this upload speed and it may be that both people need fast Internet. In the near future everyone will be Skyping with 1280x720 and this camera is up to the task - if you have enough cpu power.I am happy I picked this camera and do not have any regrets. Don't get it at BestBuy unless you are willing to pay 70% more.I would like to say "shame on you" to the marketing people who decided to make a "5x HD photo capture" mode. With this mode you can capture your 1280x720 picture and have it converted to 2880x1620. This accomplishes two things. It wastes space on your hard disk by making your files much bigger (without any benefit) and it makes it so the marketing people can advertise 5 Megapixel. You guys suck.

This camera is mind blowing. i live away from my girlfriend , have been for the last 1.5years, and skype regularly. i had been using my 27" intel Imac for the purpose, but I m moving again, so i sold it and got a Samsung series 7 laptop. True, you never appreciate anything properly until its gone. The apple isight camera is mindblowing. My girlfriend kept saying how excellent my video was and how clear my voice sounded. Now even though my Samsung laptop has a 1280x720 HD webcam, same resolution as the iSight, the low light performance isnt that good, plus its not skype HD certified, BLAH BLAH, its not even 30% of the iSight. Plus, the mic isnt that good eithet( I know, I know, apple-spoiled). Ergo, I get this.First time I use this in Skype, its not HD. I get 640x480 video. Google the issue, apparently its not skype certified too. Here comes the program "Force Skype HD". Set it to 1280x720. The difference in qualities is mind-blowing. On top of it, the true color feature and the ambient light adjustment works pretty sweet even when its Daylight and there is an open window behind me. Mic noise cancellation works flawlessly, and i cant really emphasize how gr8 the quality of video is. I am gonna go on and say it 100% or better than the iSight camera. And it came really cheap, way less than th e logitech 1s.cons are two, nothing major1. The mount takes a while getting used to. The device is meant to be positioned anywhere, so its a multipurpose unique stand, I was expecting something sort of like a clip, was a bit confused for the first couple of days, thought that it wasnt responding so well to my twists and turns, apparently it requires a bit more forceful use, very useful once you get used to it, I was just scared it would break at first! :D2. The camera keeps auto focussing every 30secs, most people wont want it while video chatting , since you wont move much, but I guess its useful for shooting video. Not a dealbreaker, but sometimes a minor inconvenience.But all in all, I really love this Cam! :D

720p resolution is more than enough for everyday webcam use. In fact, it is likely too much, because the quality of image transfer is limited by the ability of your VoIP client to preserve the image, and for Skype it is nil. Even still, the fact that the image runs at about 30fps under a wide range of general in-house daylight lighting conditions is quite a boon for me. I have a peeve for anything running below what is noticeably slow framerates.The hardware is excellent, and it has a wonderfully small profile. The wire length is more than sufficient to run from my monitor to my desktop, and it is also of good quality construction.The microphone is omnidirectional, and will pick up every sound in your room. As this is a USB connected device, I do not have the advantage of noise cancellation/reduction from my soundcard, so I opt for a separate microphone instead, given that my computer fans are monstrously loud.The Microsoft Lifecam software is very nice, and the effects are spectacular, one of which involves using face tracking to create 3D models around your head, such as a mask or a hat. This may be mundane, but it is my first experience with such effects. The image quality is not camera-like, but it is what I expect from a webcam. I do not doubt that there are more precise cameras out there; resolution is not always the best property to look at alone.All in all, I am quite satisfied with the purchase, so much so that I bought one for my mother so that we both could see each other with good quality.

It's a really awesome webcam, and I got a great discount from amazon. I paid fifty some odd bucks for it brand new. Another thing I like about it is its durability. It has a full "shell" unlike a lot a cheaper grade web cams and it has a lens, which I like because if it gets any smudges you can easily wipe them off. I had the Microsoft lifecam 3000 before and I upgraded to this one because my dog peed on the 3000. It defiantly could not withstand the liquid. Looking at the Cinema there are a lot less gaps between the pieces placed together, and I have a feeling it would withstand some liquid getting in, unless maybe I submerged it. This web cam also has a very long cord, which is somewhat cumbersome to me because I only use it on top of my laptop, but it would make a nice feature for someone who liked to place it in odd spots. The camera also has an auto focus feature that is great but only if you have a high enough speed internet. If you don't you can always turn it off. I got the webcam about two months ago, and haven't had any problems with it. Defiantly worth the money it cost.Oh, and another thing I like about the webcam is that you can actually rotate it left, right, up and down without actually having to move it around to much. The bendy placement bar is nice too. I don't really know how to describe it, but it allows the webcam to sit pretty much any where.

good clear picture, you have to get the actual software/drivers from microsoft's website(if gives you a card in the box for the address). i turned off the autofocus and just manually adjust it via the software(once you set it you're good until you move a few feet further away or closer to the cam), otherwise if you do a lot of moving then stop, it'll go blurry then readjust the focus, which then gets it crystal clear again, that's the only reason i give 4 stars instead of 5, it gets annoying with the constant refocusing when you move then stop. the microphone will literally pick up on a pin dropping. incredibly sensitive. there's settings in the software to manually adjust everything with the cam(color, brightness, contrast, white levels, etc.) with lots of little extras too, but i haven't toyed with those much. 4/5 for the constant refocusing(until you turn off autofocus in software's settings) otherwise good product.

Before buying this product, I used to have an old Lifecam VX-1000 for my very old emachines desktop computer. Ever since my VX-1000 deteriorated, I haven't been able to video chat with my friends. Now that we're all in college, the only way we can communicate is IMing and texting. I don't like to pay a huge phone bill for texting so I would always opt that out for IM. All of my friends would hold video conversations, except for me since I don't have a webcam thus making me feel guilty because they haven't seen me in a long time. Then, I decided it was time for me to get a new webcam. I was thinking about going back to VX-1000 but I decided to go high tech and try out the HD webcams. I was one step close to buying Logitech's HD cams but I decided to stick with Microsoft's brands yet again.Installing the product was simple like my VX version. After installation, I decided to compare Cinema and VX-1000. Let me tell ya... There was a big difference bad webcam quality and HD webcam quality. The autofocus was ok but just be aware about its unusual behavior once in a while. The adjustable webcam stand is great and can hold its position. The webcam itself is small too so it's easy to carry along during travel sprees. The only thing that still bothers me about Lifecam is the lag. Similar to my VX-1000, the lag is still there (and to think that this cam would finally eliminate the lag, but nope). I was hoping for new video effects but no changes in that either.Overall, this webcam is great for a replacement. Now I can finally hold video conversations with my friends and see how they're doing in college~----------------------------------****NEW EDIT AS OF 06/05/2012****I'm starting to get really irritated about the auto focus. It blurs so much to the point where I just want to crush it or something. And no matter how much lighting I have put in the picture, the web cam seems to enjoy itself by adjusting the lighting equally (which I am not very fond of) and making the auto focus do the rest of the work. I 'm thinking twice about this whole Auto Focus jazz stuff the next time I purchase a new web cam.

I've had this camera for about 2 years now. I've never had any issues with it- the camera works amazingly and the mic picks up well! I love the software that comes with it- there's a several hats, masks, and backgrounds you can take a picture with. I use it mainly with Windows 7- I'm not sure if the software is Mac or Linux compatible as the camera is made by Microsoft.If Microsoft made their operating systems as well as this camera I may not be switching to Mac!!!Only tip... if I had to buy another webcam I'd get the Microsoft LifeCam Studio (the newer model of this camera) as it shoots 1080p rather than 720p, but 720p is still pretty good for just a webcam!

My use of the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p is a bit different from the typical user: I'm using it as an always-on outdoor surveillance camera for my street. Now, keeping in mind that this product was never intended to be used outdoors (make sure you protect it adequately if you do), it has performed well beyond my expectations for a camera at this price.I had initially tried a Logitech C310 -- another HD webcam -- but it proved highly inadequate at focusing at distances greater than a few feet. I can't really fault it -- webcams are primarily designed to focus on people's faces a foot or two away. So I needed something with variable focus. Logitech does make a few HD webcams with autofocusing lenses, but I was drawn to the LifeCam Cinema based on some very impressive videos I had seen.Installation on Vista (ugh) as well as XP went without a hitch. It is currently hooked up to an old IBM Thinkpad T60p laptop with a Core 2 processor -- not state of the art by any means, but capable enough for the job. (Admittenly, the CPU load is about 80% of most of the time, so there's not much else I would have this particular machine do.) The moment I hooked it up to my webcam monitoring software, I was stunned at the greater amount of detail compared to the Logitech C310. (Again, the C310 is non-focusing, or "fixed focus" depending on how you look at it, so it's not really a fair comparison, even though the price points are very close.) I will agree with other reviews that at times the autofocus feature does tend to "hunt" especially at low light, which would trigger my webcam software's motion detection feature far too often, so I ended up turning it off and pre-setting the focus manually (which you do through the included LifeCam control panel).Speaking of low light, as others have mentioned the LifeCam excels in this area. Even in the early morning hours, the single streetlamp in front of my house has provided enough light for the LifeCam to capture a surprising amount of detail in houses and objects across the street.Now, just to manage expectations, this is certainly no pro-grade Canon XL1 HD camcorder. You will not get much facial detail with people even 15 feet away from the cam, much less across the street. But the HD without a doubt provides a much more useful picture than any standard definition webcam, and the wider angle (much wider than the Logitech C310 I had tried) is a huge bonus for me, allowing a field of view spanning 3 houses across the street. (See my day and night photos in the gallery above.) At this price, it is certainly worthy of my 5 stars, even if the weather elements batter this thing and I need to replace it once a year.

This product is awesome. I have heard a few people mention issues with the auto focus feature. I have not had any issues, I can see it focusing every time you move a good amount closer or further away, but it is definitely not bad at all.The camera has an amazing image quality and you can adjust the size you are recording at if you are worried about a slow internet connection not being able to handle the video feed. The microphone cam pick up sounds very well and ive heard it sounds great on the other end of a Skype call.I would definitely recommend this product even if the price isn't under 30 dollars (I got it on a Christmas sale)

I do a lot of video conferencing in my job. I often chat with people overseas, so I'm talking from home in the wee hours of the morning in a dark room, as well as in my offices.I've tried several different webcams with mixed results. the LifeCam Cinema is the first one I've really been happy with. It works well in low light, it gives great video and still pictures, and it comes with some cute software. The machines I use it on are all Windows 7, a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit. I haven't noticed any difference in behavior on the different machines, though all are pretty beefy.The software has some features that are more for a laugh than general use. It lets you distort your face various ways or put objects on your head, e.g. hats, funny hair, stars circling your head. I enjoyed playing with it for a few days for personal videoconferences, but otherwise haven't bothered.In addition to video conferencing, I use this camera both to take still pictures (e.g. of something in my office I want to mail someone a picture of) and short videos to help me explain problems with whatever I'm working on (e.g. an issue with a mouse). Taking the cameras and videos is easy with the built-in software, as is adjusting the resolution (before taking the picture/video) so the files are small enough to mail.Other reviewers have mentioned some problems with auto-focus being hyper-active. I have the same issues sometimes, and haven't figured out what causes it. Despite this hiccup, though, it's an awesome webcam especially for the price. I've bought four so far (I have a lot of computers and places I work), got two more for my wife and her mom, and will look at these first if I need more for any other reason.Pro:- great low-light performance- takes nice video recordings and pictures of stuff close to your computer- software is useful for my needs, though it takes a bit of getting used to- Looks nice- the flexible metal clamp it sits on adjusts nicely for any size of monitor, or even as a standCon:- the autofocus can be annoying when it starts misbehavingOverall I love this webcam!

Needless to say, this camera provides a nice, clear HD picture. Unfortunately, the software leaves much to be desired. If nothing else, the oft-complained about auto-focus functionality is a huge pain. You can turn it off, but once you restart your computer, it turns itself right back on. Many web sites list complaints about this feature, but Microsoft, as usual, does not respond.

I really like this small web camera. The things that I do not like is that it has focus problems. If I turn of auto focus I can make it workable. Also there is no option I have found manually or otherwise to turn off the onboard microphone. I have a studio Mic which I prefer, and I really would like to find the mic disable feature. However all in all its a great piece of hardware.

I'm using this with Windows 8 and it works with Skype and Movie Maker. The lens is wide angle and covers a lot of interior space. Imaging is clear and it will focus within about a foot of the lens. It works in low light but drops back to lower resolution under that condition. There's a multi-coated glass cover over the optical lens with the microphone on top. The housing is aluminum. There's no tripod socket but the base is flexible for desk or monitor mounting.

Bought as a Christmas gift for a family member and it has been use almost daily ever since. No complaints it was easy to hook up and has been totally problem free. Not to mention the video quality greatly surpasses that of most any built in webcam found on most laptops and some PC monitors.

I needed a new webcam to replace my old VX-3000 that I had been using for 5 years.The auto focusing/auto white-balance of this webcam can be a blessing and a curse.While live streaming I usually disable it, and set it manually.I personally won't ever use the mic, but it's there.Compared to my old webcam this one is far superior.So if you're upgrading from an old webcam, or don't own one,you should enjoy this one for it's ease of use and all.Build quality was surprisingly good.

Use of camera with skype allowed me to connect with family in New Jersey and view their experience with "Sandy". The camera, Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam, has excellent focus, color and definition. I was able to have a personal guided tour of our sons apartment through their use of skype. They were viewing my picture, sitting at my computer console, and conversing with me as the tour of their apartment was being conducted. The marvel of electronics!

I have been in television production for my entire career, so I understand video cameras. This is the best HD web cam I have ever owned! The picture is superb: in light sensitivity, resolution, black levels, and color reproduction. The microphone quality and sensitivity is excellent also.

I would not recommend purchasing this camera. The camera should be considered good for its picture quality and low light ability (5 stars). The software special effects may be worth 1-2 stars compared to some options on the market. The digital, noise-cancelling microphone and audio characteristics are seriously awful (0-1 star). This has been the same on 4 different computers in different locations/configurations. The noise cancelling audio software installed with the condenser mic unit attempts so strongly to pick up what is available, that it starts to ramp up the levels and feeds back on itself. In a quiet room with the other party talking the mic begins to go from a quiet level to a loud hum until some noise is picked up in the room. I have to frequently make some audible noise to clear the escalating hum before the audio becomes completely overwhelmed by feedback. I cannot use this unit for any conference calls where my audio interruption would be inconvenient. On other calls I find myself making minor noises in the background to keep it in check. Only situation I have found which makes it useable is to have an additional microphone installed and to deactivate the LifeCam mic. Thus an added USB port used and extra cost due to bad design. Will not ever purchase another Microsoft camera again.

My family says we look crystal clear and they comment the sound is also very good I upgraded from a vga webcam so I have been blown away with the quality I would suggest this webcam to anyone wanting smooth performance at a great price it is well worth it.

I've been using this webcam for over a year now and it's used at least 3-5 times a day. The most obvious is skype calls, sound is clean and crisp, unlike some where people need to have an external mic. The video is great, i wish the people on the other end would buy this camera so i can see them as they see me with this clarity. If i remember right, i was purely plug and play, i didn't have to add any drivers. the added software was fun in the beginning but i never used the effects any more. in bright sunny days or a dark room, the webcam works great. In a dark room, it might help a bit if you turn on a light in the background as the monitor light is enough but the additional light makes a big difference. well worth the purchase, no issues at all, great product

I bought this after moving away from home to have a good camera for my TV PC set up in my living room. The excellent wide-angle lens on this camera gives a good window of everyone sitting on the couch and has great quality. The auto-focus works well, framerates are high, and it has good clarity even in somewhat darker lighting. My TV PC runs Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) but that doesn't stop this awesome camera from being awesome, as Skype for Linux pulls high quality video from it. After having good results on several Skype calls, I moved it into my computer/office room and hooked it up to my Windows 7 desktop. Again, quality is amazing and clear. I just placed another order before I started this review, the second cam is going on my desktop so I can answer Skype calls in high quality whether I'm in the living room or the computer room!On top of that, for $41 with free shipping this thing's a bargain! I got both of mine with various discounts and my first one came quickly, so I'm hoping the second does as well.

THIS IS MY first Microsoft Web camera, coming from a long history of Logitech cams. My last cam was a Logitech 2 MP Portable Webcam C905 / QuickCam Pro for Notebooks, and before that the Quickcam 4000. I also had an archaic logitech camera back in the late 90's but they were ALL junk back then.IT IS VERY apparent that Microsoft had some good people working on this one. The camera is much smaller than I was expecting. Viewed head on, the cylindrical body is just a hair larger in diameter than a quarter. It is just over two inches in length, has a minimalist look with only a non-obtrusive flexi-stand, a mic on top, and a Windows Live 'call' button on top. the body is aluminum.THE MOST IMPORTANT part of any camera, is the lens. This is the first web camera I have seen with a light trap surrounding the lens. This staircase-looking feature has the lens recessed into the camera a bit, and helps absorb extraneous light. While Microsoft doesn't claim 'carl-zeiss' optics like Logitech, It is in my opinion that it is in fact a superior grade lens. There is also a protective glass on the front, keeping dirt and fingers away from the lens.THE IMAGE QUALITY of this camera is simply superb. The auto-focus is quick and smart, the "true-color + clear frame" technology truly makes a difference in the quality of video when making Skype calls. It is pretty good in low light, but I have myself lit pretty good with front lights, and an over the shoulder spot light that gives my shoulders contrast and puts a shine on my hair. The color is accurate. My only complaint is to manually manipulate the camera's settings, the "true-color + clear frame" technology must be turned off. I did experience a maddening auto-focus issue when first using it, but that was resolved by a firmware update (see below).THE LIFECAM SOFTWARE works just fine, but it lacks some of the bells and whistles of Logitech's latest software, like direct uploading to youtube. There are plenty of 'facial feature' overlays that in my opinion work better than the Logitechs. The application window cannot be custom re-sized, you have the default window size and that's it. Whatever size it opens as on your screen is what you are stuck with. it does resize when you change the resolution. It does not allow you to change the microphone away from the built-in mic. Forget about using your own mic when recording with the LifeCam software or making a video call in Skype. That is not a big deal because the built-in mic is fine; I found the sound quality to be perfectly fine for my youtubing and skyping.RESOURCE HEAVY. I am not sure if this is the case with other 720p HD web cams, but live processing of the video coming off the camera in 1280x720 takes 30% of my processor just to have the video idling there, and 75% of my processor to record in 720p HD. I have a Core 2 Duo E8400 (3GHz). Your machine needs to be kinda gutsy in the processor department. They are not kidding when they recommend a dual core 3GHz.NOTE about VIDEO CALLS and RESOLUTION. Most video calling services (like Skype) limit the resolution to somewhere around 640x480. You won't be making HD video calls to Grandma using a free video calling service and typical residential broadband internet. The upload bandwidth required for HD video is phenomenal.FIRMWARE UPDATE: Microsoft has released a firmware update for the LifeCam cinema, fixing a few issues including the finicky auto-focus. After the update the auto-focus is tamed and works like it should.[...]MY APPLE MAC friends are insanely jealous at my webcamming prowess with the LifeCam Cinema. Built-in web cams are convenient and minuscule, but they can't compare to something like this. I'm not sure about its UVC compatibility, but Microsoft would be market smart to port it to Mac and market this to the Apple crowd. Even the most dedicated Apple user would be hard pressed to refuse this Microsoft product.I should add a video review too, but not at this time.

This camera installed very easily. The quality is much better than what I had previously. I do not use it with many programs--mostly skype, so I cannot rate it's compatibility with other software. I have windows 7 64bit. I cannot compare it to other 720p cameras either since this is the only one I have ever had.

I needed a fairly cheap webcam, and after doing a little research, this is actually a very good unit and for the price, it won't be beat.Quite often, it will not allow video at 720p at more than 15fps, based on what Microsoft decides is acceptable for your hardware, but it is possible to record at 30fps at 720p with moderate hardware and the right codec.Where this webcam really shines though is at slightly lower resolutions. The overall picture quality at lower resolutions will not be beat without spending a lot more money.Also, the mic in this camera is great. I got rid of my desktop microphone -- there is absolutely no comparison in volume or clarity between the two.

Based on reviews on Microsoft Lifecam Cinema 720 HD I read, I decided to order one. When I connected the webcam to the USB port, it immediately (automatically) installed it before I even typed one word. When I opened Skype, Skype immediately "found" and "installed" this webcam. I called my brother with Skype and he said that the image he received is excellent and very clear. So, I am very satisfied with this Mirosoft webcam.

I got one of these for Christmas and I love it. Also bought one for my daughter who lives in another state. So nice to be able to see her as we talk. Great quality webcam. Easy to install and works wonderful. Fun visual effects in the tool dashboard, too.
