Camera works on its own, installed the software and it wont even open, no explanation, just an error report, and I was unable to find a solution on Microsoft's website. You would think Microsoft software would be compatible with Microsoft Windows, NOT. I think there are much better choices than this.

I've had this camera a while now and use it with Skype I'm not happy about the way it constantly refocuses. The quality of the video is ok, but the problem is that its colors are way off. It makes everything look a lot more red than it actually is. I wish there was a way to change it. Other than these two issues, its ok. Oh and the built in mic is pretty lousy, lots of interference noise with it.

The Microsoft LifeCam Cinema webcam is a solid offering in the webcam category. I've used a number of different cams, both built-in cams on my laptops and add-on cams for my desktop. This one ranks up there in terms of ease of use and quality of image. The HD images catch a lot of detail, possibly even more than you'd like at times. :) And unlike some of the cams I've used, the LifeCam seems to handle varying lighting levels (both high- and low-light) with equally good results. Install was simple, with thought being put into it. For instance, putting the paper cover on the end of the USB cable with "install software first" was a nice touch to avoid some common install errors up front.Pricing-wise, it's hard to beat the LifeCam when you compare it against similar offerings. The only thing that always bemuses me is the software they offer with webcams. I realize that I don't have kids and this isn't a "family" purchase for me. But I really don't need software to add goofy special effects to my video. I simply want a solid camera with quality images and video. Leave all that "cute" stuff out and let those who want it download it separately.Bottom line, it's hard to go wrong with the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema webcam...

Ms did not take time to make sure this product they represent works with all their operating systems including all updates ,drivers, op systems, to include all lap top and desk top computers.diffident drivers for laps /desktop. operation systems with sp3 has lots of problems installing drivers .this is the first cam I had with so much trouble to install drivers ,the cam still do not work for something this simple. ms should have done their homework on this issue but instead drive their customers away way with no answers , answers come from people having problems like me with still no answers on how to fix driver problems . but instead send you to a web site to buy 3rd party software to update drivers, well all my drivers is up to date and works fine with logtic and a few more, this tells me ms product is the problem not my drivers. matter of fact ini file is bad, old software and even on their download web site is bad .2000/xp win 7 sp2 sp1 may work with not sp3 for a cam this price you would expect it to work flawlessly but a 16.00 cam from local wal mart store works better . wow don't look at price these days all maybe junk .

linked 3 cameras one night little problem. Both DSL and broadband conections. DSL required resolution decrease but all is well. All cameras 1000's miles apart and work well. A great affordable purchase till the next home use web camera comes out next year.

I got this camera for a Windows 7 machine.And the camera has well known issues for not working with Windows XP x64 or Windows 7. The software installs fine. The camera shows up in Device Manager. But, there is no driver for this it seems. Windows 7 doesn't pick it up like it usually does with everything, especially Microsoft products.This camera will work if you are still running Windows XP 32 bit (Pre SP3).So, basically, this camera is not worth the time or money.

This camera is very good. Bought for my mom so that she can Skype me. I had to turn the autofocus off though because it was entirely too busy. It would fuzz/autofocus every 5 seconds. Worked great after that. I especially like the different ways it can be mounted near your desktop and the microphone quality is good.

I bought this camera because it had a built in mic and the reviews were good. I was sadly disappointed. I wanted this for livestreaming on a website of mine. The sound would not work. I wanted it especially for the mic because I needed sound. I hooked it up to my netbook and sadly unhooked my built in webcam and mic because I wanted a camera that could zoom in and have better sound. Now my netbooks webcam and mic won't come back online and I had to order the reinstall disk for the netbook. So the MS lifecam ended up costing me more money and this cam can not be used at all. Waste of money. Thanks Microsoft for a lousy product.

My previous webcam was a $15 camera without a mic that I got mainly because it was cheap. (I just went online and found the cheapest webcam I could find). I assumed that this one would be a huge step up, which turned out to be half right. When I first used it I ran skype on my old laptop and called a friend who I videoconference with a lot and asked him how I looked. I was surprised when he said the quality looked worse. Only when I switched to a newer computer did the quality improve to something worthy of the marketing claims. Essentially the camera has the potential for great video, but you need the processing speed (and bandwidth if doing video conferencing) to handle it all.The audio is great (even on the older laptop), and the noise cancellation seems to work well. The software extras it comes with are really fairly boring after the first 10 minutes of experimenting. Yeah it might be fun the first time to add an effect to your video like wearing a mask, but it's really just a gimmick. I uninstalled everything that came with the camera after a week and just went back to skype.Summary:Video: very good.Audio: ExcellentExtras: Pretty, but uselessNegatives: You need a lot of processing power to pull it off.

I "tried" one, and was so pleased I not only bought a 2nd, we also recomended it to other family members who also bought it.It is not what we have been accustomed to getting from MicroSoft. This does everything it says it will do and does it better than most all the others on the market (in the price range). It is perfect for Skype, and it does not slow down the process, nor cause other problems: it loads easily with the enclosed disk. It features a real glass lense, an excellent microphone, easy of use, fits nearly anywhere, and is fun to use.

I installed this on a Windows Vista computer with a Athlon Dual Core Processor 4850e 2.50 Ghz, with 4Gb of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 6150SE Graphics Card with 128Mb memory. I have a number of programs running in the background so this was a good test for this camera.The first thing I will say is that camera itself is sleek looking and well designed. I am always amazed how technology moves forward and now there is an HD camera which is just over 2" in length. However it should be noted that it is not full HD and 720p but still a great leap in technology over the original web-cams.The results I got with this camera are excellent, there is still minor grain on the picture but the color depth and detail overall is superb. The sound is less impressive but good for this kind of product. I found results varied tremendously depending on the lighting conditions so it is important to get it right. This is normal, I have the FlipHD Camera and I find the results with that vary a lot too.The software included with this camera is Microsoft Lifecam. This is basic software but flexible enough.Overall I give this great marks, as usual Microsoft are not far off the mark and I am very happy with this product.

Great design, easy to use, simple installation.The included software has a lot of features I don't use -- play around with backgrounds, etc. for your recorded video, but I only use it for Skype. Picture and microphone are smooth, clear and in sync. Camera is capable of HD quality, but I turned it back one level of resolution as my internet connection became the limiting factor in call quality.Highly recommended!

I dont think this camera is worth the money. Its a good camera but i like my on board webcam better then this HD webcam. Its has more detail but since it does its glitchy on the other end. Also has very bad zoom compared to my on board. But if u like using it recording then yeah i would say its a good product for you. But if you in to skype just stick with a low end camera.

Start the disc, plug in and go. Solid pictures with little effort and has decent sound as well. Wish it had a little more flexible stand, but with some wire and/or modeling clay you can get the position you want.

I'm going to be brutally honest, this cam is not as close to HD as they say. Picture quality is ok not great. Video capture is mediocre, sound is digital but muffled, i seen some vids showing how clear the caption on this cam is, but I for one have not seen it even with all apps off and just having the cam run you only get decent video, that HD quality does not show, nor these claim about it. I for one think half these video showing how clear this cam is are actually retouch videos run threw other editing program to falsely claim that the video is even near good capture clarity. When I use it i do see artifacts, and the new driver/updated program does'nt help either. they now force auto focus ture color with the clear frame technology which actually distort the picture quality instead of improving it which tends to blur a lot and some time just goes out of focus with the slightless movement which can be annoying which was a bad idea on Microsoft part. I think logictech would of been a better idea for HD capturing and using for messenger, this cam does not meet its expectation.

When will I learn? The software install caused me to have to reinstall Win 7 because it caused USB hub device faults every few seconds. This camera is small and sharp but occasionally hunts for focus for no reason. Tried 3 different Microsoft Cams and they each exhibited some unacceptable hardware or software problem. Lifecam 5000HD and Show high end cams too were useless and produced problems. All of these model drag down the CPU. Low or no hardware acceleration.Installed the Logitech Webcam 9000 Pro and viola! No Issues!!!Microsoft Does It Again. My advice is to steer clear of this product. This is not the first time I've encountered Microsoft hardware not working well with their own operating system or office applications. I'm just about ready to throw in the towel and get a mac.Bottom line: try Logitech instead. they have more robust hardware, fast, stable and feature rich software.

There have been plenty of reviews on this cam and as usual they are all over the place.So here is my quick experience out of the box.The end of the USB is covered with a label that says Install Software First!So lets see what happens. I plugged it in anyway, XP found it and installed it. First I went to Windows Explorer and opened it up directly. Worked fine. Great picture for a little cam. I tried some other software I had for a different device and it recorded just fine with this cam. In just a few seconds it was up and running without installing the software.I like the look and love the little stand/clip. The fact that it bends you can use it as a stand on your desktop or clip it on the top of your monitor. I just hope it lasts with all the bending!But this is just another device marketed to "cam" with other people using Oprah's Skype or something. I'm not into that. I actually use these for monitoring through my website. I haven't set this one up yet so I don't have feedback on that yet. But if you are looking for a basic cam that has good picture quality and its own flexible stand this is a good one at the right price.

I just want to start out and say that this is a REALLY great webcam. Of all the webcams I have used in the past, this one blows them out of the water. The standard quality is more than anyone can ask for, and Skype calls are crystal clear. Movement is captures very well. There is a small delay, but only noticeable during fast movements. The typical users would never notice.Why did I give it 4 stars? The HD quality is fantastic, but it does come at a cost. I own a quad-core processor with 4GB's or ram. My computer is VERY fast and can handle nearly any program you throw at it (I'm a web programmer and designer). This camera WILL take up the majority of your resources when capturing the HD video. My quad-core is hovering at about 40% cpu usage when the HD camera is running. Standard definition works without this additional load.I recommend this camera to ANYONE that has a Pentium 4 and above. I only recommend using the HD capabilities if you are running a high-end dual core or any quad-core processor.This was my first review of any product. Please be gentle ;)

It's probably a good web cam, probably that's why many people bought this from CompUSA and all the orders got canceled and wiped out of Amazon's system. So there is no way to give negative feedback on Seller's Performance. And I'm hoping that manufacturers will consider Compusa and Circuit City, currently owned by Tiger Direct as a vendor for their merchandise and not only for this reason.

This is my second Life Cam camera. I sent the 3000 to my brother to use with Skype. I got this one to step up a few models thinking the quality would be much better. If you don't have at least 2 gigs of ram stick with a cheaper camera you won't see the difference. The software for this camera did not work either. Try to boot it up and it would freeze-up. Might be because I only have 1 meg of ram in an 8 year old Dell!Update: Switched PCs. Now I have a 2gig machine with dual core processors. Camera looks a lot better now. I still removed the software that came with it. Works a lot better now. You can really tell the difference between the cameras. Worth the cost difference!

I've not bought the LifeCam yet. I do want to post a notice about the 'Name' - The "720p HD" web vidcam. Everyone needs to understand the "wide-screen" - and HD, "Hi-Definition", have nothing to do with one another. Microsoft does spell all this out 'later' in the geeky sub-specs (that most don't read). 720i or 720p is 'very' respectful "hi-Def", but it's not really 1080p (or 1080i quality) HD.What (both) the 720 and 1080 digital formats do offer is "16:1 Wide-Screen" video capture - sort'a like (old) 'Cinemascope' movies.Microsoft did do a respectable job of explaining all this - "if you keep reading (long enough)". Being sort of a geek myself, and based on the specs provided, it looks like this is going to be a popular vidcam that offer some 'real' improvements in imaging quality. But watch out on the knock-offs! They are very crafty at misrepresenting products by misusing numbers, 'titles(like HD)' and specs, while being careful not to tell you a (obvious) lie.RGH

I bought this primarily as a webcam, but I've found that it produces excellent (and by that I mean super-freaking-phenomenal) audio quality with Skype. Nowadays, I primarily use it as a Skype mic. Maybe overkill, but it's excellent -- my voice is crystal clear even sitting about 24-30 inches from the mic.The mic also does an excellent job of filtering out ambient noise. On one call, I could hear my neighbor mowing his lawn and I was concerned as the noise was bothering me. But when asked about it, my conversation partner on the other end of the line heard nothing of the like.

What I needed was a webcam I could use to talk with and see my grandson in Seattle. I have a webcam on my computer but this is so much nicer. My grandson loves to talk to his Gramma with this device and I would recommend this webcam to all grandparents, everywhere.First of all, the webcam arrive nicely packaged. The directions were clear and it was easy to set up.I discussed timing of our first webcam visit with my daughter, and I practiced at home. The evening arrived,my grandson came in loud and clear. He looked so cute. I found for our use that the microphone was perfect.My grandson has a low soft voice, but I could understand him clearly, and he me.We webcam weekly and have become old pros. I can watch my grandson as he grows. I can read him a bedtime story. We keep in touch, and we love it.Now on to chatroulette. I'll admit it; I did not intend to use the lifecam as a web chat camera but as a camera for showing outside views from my cabin. Like other webcams this camera is nearsighted - but worth a try. Unfortunately, driver software cannot be pre-downloaded for install on a different machine(I tried). When I tried installing the drivers - the software insisted that I be connected to the internet. I did - via my 56K modem - but the driver install software would not recognize the connection and therefore would not install on my XP dual core machine! (Hey, my browser worked just fine). So ... I installed a Logitech quick cam pro 9000 instead. No problems and it looks great. Microsoft is way too controlling.If you need a webcam for Skype or web chats consider this camera - it's probably very good for that purpose.

I use webcam for Skype and I thought that my laptop's (HP dv2000) built-in webcam was pretty good, but then I tried this Microsoft LifeCam Cinema. I was very impressed by the difference in picture quality.In a relatively low-light indoors environment, Microsoft LifeCam provided a significantly better quality picture with practically no grain, and it picked up a lot more of the detail on the background than laptop's built-in camera . The auto-focus feature works flawlessly, and the audio is good. I also enjoyed the various effects (big nose, square head, etc.) that the Microsoft software added. The camera and the included software are very good at recognizing face and identifying eyes, nose, and mouth and then applying effects of your choice to just those parts of the face. Some effects add wigs or masks and they move almost perfectly in sync with the head creating an illusion that you are wearing them.The installation of the drivers was quick and simple, everything worked right out of the box. The camera is attractively styled. In my opinion, this is a great product.

I bought this webcam to create videos for my blog, YouTube, etc. I just ordered a Logitech webcam and when it comes, I'll be returning this one. Why?It has an automatic light adjustment features that starts the video out bright, then readjusts it. This means that the light changes after about a second and I have to edit out the first second of every video! That's really annoying.In the evening, with compact fluorescent lights (3 of them), the video is always too yellow. Even going into the settings and making it brighter wasn't satisfactory.Finally, I don't like the wide screen. I'm not sure I'm going to find a good quality webcam without it, but it makes it almost impossible for me to get a professional-looking background; I'd have to cover up 3/4 of my office!If you just want the webcam to make video calls, it's fine. The clarity is good. But if you want to create high-quality videos, try elsewhere.

I've used a LifeCam for a month or so now. It works well. It's easy to toss onto my laptop or pose on the desk, using the built-in adjustable stand. The software is simple to use and integrates with Microsoft Live pretty seamlessly. Image quality with good lighting is wonderful for the price; however, if you're stuck with dim incandescent lighting, the picture quality deteriorates rapidly and becomes grainy.The microphone is fairly sensitive. The audio it captures is passable, especially for voice communication -- it's not studio quality (not that you'd expect that), but it's also not among the worst computer mics I've heard. You don't sound like you're in a closet full of cotton balls.In all, it's a great little camera for general computer use.

I was a bit leery after reading some reviews about problems some buyers had loading the software, but my experience was completely trouble-free. All one has to do is follow the instructions exactly. Don't jump the gun and try to get through it too fast. It will only take a few minutes, so don't rush it. After it was all set up, I found the camera to be amazing quality, especially in the low light environment I'm in at my computer, and my Skype friends were equally amazed at the clarity and quality of the video. This is the real deal. I'm sure there are cameras out there that are just as good, and maybe some that are better, but I don't think there are web-cams out there that are a better value. Highly recommend this camera.

Good product. No real complaints, other than the annoying Windows Messenger button on the top. Kind of annoying if you accidentally press it. Works well with Skype, but you do not get the full 720 when you use Skype. Meh. Whatever. Complain to someone else if that's a really big deal to you.

I just picked this up from Amazon for $49 which is an extremely good deal (cheaper than the company discount). All I had to do was plug it in, and Windows 7 automatically installed the drivers for it and the latest version of the Lifecam software. I don't think there's such thing as an easier installation.The software is pretty barebones. It just records video and takes pictures. There's not much else that it does. You can add effects to your videos which can be pretty entertaining, but I'm sure other companies all allow the same thing.I mainly use the camera for video calls in Skype and the quality is great. My voice comes out very crisp and clear in Skype like I am sitting in the room with the person. Though I've heard that this might be Skype's great software that makes it sound so well, nonetheless, it works without a hitch. The other fun thing is you can add effects to your video through the lifecam effects software, while being on Skype video call.The lowlight works well too. This camera is a LOT brighter than my old Lifecam VX6000. From doing a lot of searching on the internet, this is very compareable to the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000, which runs for 50-75% more, so this was definitely the webcam to pick up.

The camera works grate, easy to install, and it works on Mac mini with 10.6.4. I am happy that I can used it on both windows and Mac. The quality of the camera came out grate under normal light, in a low light the video quality turn out a little dark as most camera do.

We have a Chinese girl staying with us who is going to UNR (University of Nevada, Reno) and she uses Skype to talk to her parents just about every night. She does it with her MacBook, well was doing it with her MacBook, until the motherboard went south and she bought an older PowerBook with no iSight camera.But she does the bulk of her work on a Dell PC in her room. The Dell monitor has no camera, so I ordered this for her and it works a treat. Her parents halfway around the world tell her that now she is always in focus, they can see her in even low light and the colors are move vivid. She loves it, her parents love it and the three of them claim that it's way, way better than the iSight camera that was on her MacBook.If you have a built in camera on your monitor or laptop, then you don't need this, but if you don't, Microsoft has priced this one right and it does the job in spades.

Had to return the first one I purchased due to the auto focus not working. after some research found out I was not alone. But I must say, the wait was worth it. Amazon sent out another one and it works perfectly for my Skype needs!

Aesthetics:1.) This is a really great looking camera as it's design and shape makes it look much more professional than the typical notebook cameras outhere.2.) It sits very well on my laptop. Doesn't wobble or fall off.Use/Function:1.) I use Skype, so I can't comment on any possible provider difference for video chat, but if you are talking to someone with a good connection they can see you (and you yourself in a small window) VERY clearly. The quality of sounds and video is amazing. HOWEVER, if there are connectino problems, this camera isn't going to "fix" them with its superior imaging quality, as slow signals have sometimes shown me (to the person on the other end of the conversation).2.) The widescreen capability is really a great feature. Many times I've had to "squeeze in" family member and/or friends when chatting with someone far away, this time it provides a great view where everyone can comfortably be seen.Overall: For the price of this camera and for it's simple functinoality this is a really great unit!

Arrived quick and was easy to install. Picture quality is HD superb. I have used it many times with Skypes video calls and everyone tells me the picture quality is great! Users need to know that this camera and its functions are memory hungry and the computer that it is used on needs to have plenty of RAM installed. I have 2.5 gig of RAM and I still have to close all open programs as well as some of my tray apps to get the best performance. If I had 4 gig of RAM, I'm sure the processor functions would improve. I have a desktop pc with a duel processor, but others recommend a quad for best performance. With that said, I am not really having any problems using this camera for Skype calls.

I'm no expert, this is my first webcam, first off...WOW what a good price on amazon, second..I remember webcams always being skippy with crappy quality, I also saw photos on the box of people being crystal clear and thought "this must be a scam" but nope....its really that clean, the only thing is the autofocus might slow things down a bit, I think it can be turned off, and the software is fine, but again...I'm no expert, I have Vista and it works just great, it has effects like masks hats hair etc and its pretty cool that the camera recognizes your face and the hats and masks follow you around as you move your head. VERY good camera.

Stay away from this until they fix the software. It would not go into HD mode, there are yellow upside down yield signs with exlcamation marks next to the highest three resolutions, including HD. When I tried anyway, it gave a message saying that my computer wasn't able to handle that resolution - but I'm way past the minumum specs that they give (I have 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM, XP Service Pack 3). On the next try it said "there is no camera connected to this computer", so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it found it again. It did go into HD after two or three tries. The focus swims in and out, and continues to do so, it's enough to make one seasick. I tried to use the software update feature from the camera's dashboard, but it says that I must be connected to the internet for it to work - huh? So I went to Microsoft's web site and downloaded the software again but it hasn't helped much if at all. Sometimes when you turn the camera off, the blue "on air" light stays on anyway. I tried to chat with Microsoft support, but you need a Product ID in order to chat with them - their software that was suppossed to detect the Product ID didn't work, so I tried to manually enter every number I could find on the package, none of them worked. So I have a camera that doesn't work well, with buggy software, that the apparently PC-unsavvy manufacturer needs to fix, and they won't even chat with me. For now this is going in the closet and the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which works with no issues) is going back on my desk.

I bought this to video chat to my children living all over the US. This camera was easy to install. The directions were simple and clear. The picture quality is good, however, when I chat with people that are on a wireless the picture freezes. The camera can be attached to the computer or left on the tabletop. The picture quality is better using Skype than gmail. We did a lot of research and this really was a good value and quality. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to "see" their friends and family.

Awesome little web cam. Works great for web chatting and the quality is quite good. It has fun little add-ons and works great to just take still photos. I love the flexible stand which can easily hook on to the monitor for my desktop or the screen of my laptop. The auto adjust on the camera works great. Definitely a great investment if you web chat a fair amount. Price isn't too bad and worth every penny.

Very pleased with the quality. I live in Alaska and have a slow internet connection (512) but it still works reasonably well with Skype. The only thing I don't like about it is that it refocuses often (especially with kids) and that bugs the other people a bit on the other side. Other than that it is a nice camera. I would recommend it especially at this price ($49). It seems to be dropping weekly as well.

Just got my Microsoft LifeCam from Amazon. Amazing service, ordered late afternoon and got it next day!The camera is simple to set up, just run the software, plug it in when prompted and you are up and running in less than 5 minutes. Using Skype you have to select the LifeCam as your audio source otherwise it will remain on the previous setting. The audio quality with the LifeCam is excellent. Picture quality and streaming is awesome with this camera. It will automatically focus on an object put within inches of the camera for showing small pieces of jewerly, etc. It then takes a few seconds for it to focus on the main subject.My biggest beef about this camera is the way it hooks onto the laptop. The bendy rubber base works well just to set the camera on your screen when the laptop is open, but when you close the laptop the camera will fall off. I would have preferred the standard base that most webcams have that really secure the camera to the screen but I guess I will have to live with this.Overall I give this camera an A+ rating. Excellent price at $54.95.
