I teach university classes, and I regularly record my videos. I have a lifecam cinema and associated software. I routinely record hour+ videos, only to find that the software has dropped all but the last few minutes of the video. I have plenty of disk space, screen saver is off, and nothing else running on my laptop. This dropping of content is unacceptable, and I will now search for a full size HD video camera to replace this lifecam. :(

LifeCam software for Windows 8 would not work with AMD Radeon 4800 series driver. Use Windows supplied Radeon 4800 driver. Product works well.

I am not in the habit of rating any item I purchase with five stars because in my way of thinking there is always room for improvement, hence the four star rating. As for the camera, first of all it looks nice, its so much different than other web cams I've used. As far as it's operation goes it could not be any simpler. Once the two minute setup is completed by the enclosed software you're ready to use your new camera. The images from this camera are crystal clear and you could not ask for anything better. It has several resolution settings which is up to the user to decide which one to use. I love the self-focus feature and the "True Color Clear Frame" setting as well. I use my camera mostly as a surveillance camera which I have trained on my front door and the street. Even though a window pane this camera takes clear and beautiful video as well as still pictures. Well once I washed the window it did :). It is comparable to my 720p HD camcorder and is well worth the price. I have found there is not much difference between "720p HD" and "1080p HD" resolutions. From what I have observed 1080p creates a bigger file which takes up more room on your hard drive and of course costs more to begin with. So my advice is save your money and purchase this "720p HD" webcam, I doubt you will be disappointed with your decision.

Good Camera _ Great Price; wish that it had an alternate base when not used with a monitor. Picture quality is a 7 out of 10 in my opinion. There is some grainy qualities in the picture. For my purpose of occasional chats and watching the dogs, the camera works fine.

I'm writing this review mainly to ease suspicion about whether or not this product works with windows 7 64 bit or not. It seems that there was an issue with compatibility before. However, I recently received this product in the mail and it works with my 64 bit machine. The software and firmware are available through microsoft's website, provided below, so I didn't even bother using the CD. Worked like a charm right of out the box and I am sufficiently impressed with the video quality. Hope this helps others out there who were worried about win 7 and 64 bit compatibility.[..]

When I was tasked with purchasing a webcam for users to check out, I was concerned. I needed something that would work right out of the box. I have to say that I was very pleased with how easy this has been for my end-users to install and use quickly, with minimal IT involvement. This camera has allowed our training division to easily conference in the outlying stations, the Chief to video conference with other districts, as well as any other video communication that has been needed. Additionally, it has been a great addition to our video training team for creating appealing video content. Not having to worry about the technology has been a big help when putting together the training videos.

The resolution of the camera is very good and the microphone picks up very well. My biggest complaint is that no matter how you try to fold the stand, it will not attach to the laptop lid. I ended up using a spring-loaded clip to hold it in place.

This is my first and only webcam. It was easy to install and easier to use. The pictures are very clear and the connection is basically in realtime. You have to really wrangle it to get it to sit on top of the monitor, but it seems pretty sturdy once you get it up there. It takes clear video and clear pictures. I like that I can sit in front of it and take pictures. I use it with Oovoo and it works perfect.

This webcam is a very nice product. The way it looks 720p It's really a god upgrade from regular laptop built in webcams. Over this webcam is great, works well in low light, widescreen. Overall this is a nice webcam, Highly recommended it.

I find strange when people use the software that comes with products. It's only garbage that slows down the computer. Let's review this webcam for what it is.The image quality is OK but I was hoping for more. That is the reason I gave it 4 stars. Sure, I compared it against a real 1080p camcorder, but I was expecting a little more optical resolution and dynamic range with the colors.The cam has a very interesting "mount" that is made of some sort of flexible plastic that can keep its shape and adapt to the surface you want to mount it on; monitor, desk, I guess it can also easily mounted with a screw to a wall or similar. The qulity is very decent and the aluminum body is really good looking.I have tested it with a 5m USB "active" extension and it works perfectly; the cam uses the UVC driver and delivers YUYV (YUV 4:2:2) and MJPG formats. This is very common for this class of products.

I've used a Logitech webcam on and off for many years, usually with an IM messenger for video chatting. I recently upgraded to a Logitech C600 from a Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 WebCam. When I saw the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema, I chose to see which webcam was better suited for me.Microsoft's LifeCam Cinema offers true 720p 16:9 widescreen HD video at 30 frames per second. A digital noise canceling microphone improves speech quality for crystal clear audio. World-class optics provides auto focus and high precision glass element lens. Webcam effects either creatively distort the image or add items such as crazy hair styles or rabbit ears. Optimized for Windows Live Essentials, the webcam will easily upload photos to the Windows Live photo gallery for editing and sharing, videos can be edited using Windows Live Movie Maker then uploaded to social networking sites, plus pressing the Windows Live call button located on the top of the webcam effortlessly starts a video call.The cheesy webcam effects either distort the entire view while others identify and manipulate the head's location. The addition of hats or hair find placement and follow the head very well, however if your head isn't wide enough, a gap between the head and effect is clearly obvious. Logitech's effects are different, but perform much better.The software is simple to install and use. The settings and effects section can be shown or hidden with the click of a long narrow button on the right hand side. Below the viewing area are three buttons so one can quickly record a video, record a message, or snap a picture. Created files are shown in a thumbnail strip located at the bottom. Files can be emailed, or shared by clicking small square buttons, or deleted by clicking a tiny x button. Right clicking thumbnails is not an option if the buttons are visually too small.The LifeCam's flexible stand is the best design I've seen on a webcam. The C600's rigid stand can also be used freestanding and adapts to flat screen monitors, but doesn't mold into a perfect fit.A side by side comparison showed the LifeCam has a sharper and more accurately colored image, however had more trouble adjusting to minor light changes with more noise in darker areas. The Logitech C600 had no problems keeping up with the lighting, but has a softer, less saturated look.Video playback on the LifeCam uses the default player, unlike the Logitech C600 which requires Windows Media Player to view video from the software. Software isn't forced onto the user even though Microsoft suggests their software solutions. The LifeCam can only be used in wide screen format though.When comparing the two webcams, it's difficult to identify which is better. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. The effects are not important to me, but being able to video chat with family and friends is. This is possible with both webcams. Microsoft's software is simple to use and may be better suited to those who are technically challenged or don't make numerous adjustments. Nice web cam. We have satelite internet which isn't as high quality as DSL so we have to set the resolution a little lower. The quality is not as good that way but it still works well and we can visit with our grandbabies who don't live nearby.

The Microsoft Lifecam Cinema is *the* webcam. If you are shopping for a webcam, look no further and buy this one. The picture quality is the best I have seen for webcams. Don't expect camcorder-like quality, but this camera comes pretty close. Like all webcams, it has some issues tracking very rapid movements, but normal body movements are not an issue. Colors are very lifelike. I particularly like how this camera accurately shows skin tones. No more alien-looking skin like on many other cameras. A real gem on this camera is the built-in noise canceling microphone. I use it for skype and everyone says the sound quality is superb - even though my camera is sitting on top of my monitor far away from my face. Last but not least, this camera is UVC compatible, which means it can operate without extra drivers. It works on my Windows 7 PC, but it also works with a Linux powered NAS box. The software that comes with it is not the greatest - but given the cameras universal compatibility, you are not required to use or even install the included software. Just choose a program you like. Now that the price of this camera has come down, I am thinking about buying one for the entire family. That way, we can all see and hear each other clearly.

This camera offers great quality, but it demands a lot from your system. I have a 3.2GHZ Quad Core processor, 6GB of low latency DDR3 RAM, and a Radeon HD 6850 2GB video card and when Skyping with this camera on full resolution it will virtually utilize all of my system resources. The microphone is terrible on it. It fluctuates between extremely sensitive and self-muting. If its within a meter of your speakers you cn expect a chirping feedback sound which then echoes unil you mute your microphone. This became increasingly annoying until I deemed the camera unfit for service when trying to communicate with my family back home. Over all it's ok but for he price I expected something more polished without these problems I expect from low quality web cams.

Easy to install. Excellent resolution. Purchased it for use with Skype, but one can use it to record a video with sound which can then be emailed. Unfortunately video takes a while to load as an attachment - not recommending sending email videos. Very please with the product, its features and the service from Amazon.

The quality of this camera is truly amazing. I have also noticed that even low light situations, the camera automatically enhances the pic. I have never exp the camera not focusing right. Great product !!! Just word of wisdom the software i have noticed doesn't work with some older laptops running on XP. The camera works but not the extra software that comes with it. Overall i m happy with this product.

I've been using the Microsoft's LifeCam Cinema Webcam for sometime and for my basic Skype needs it works great! Overall the camera is well designed, and with a solid feel. Installation is almost automatic, with a long USB cable to vary your placement of the camera. I like that the camera has a solid attachment piece making it easy to place just about anywhere, even free standing. The wide screen view is also a great touch, as well the blue light indicator that lets you know when the webcam is recording. So far I've found the quality to be rather good - from sound to video - the resolution is great for my needs, but if you move too much the quality can get a little shaky/delayed. The autofocus is really good and captures clear close-ups - very impressed. The Webcam includes a Window's live call button that launches the application with a touch of a button on the camera.For the money this is a great simple webcam.

Has problems with its autimatic light/darkness corrections...it either over or under corrects...rediculously sensative much of the time! It will even stay in a situation of correcting the screen from lighter to darker without stopping at a solution. Would have also been nice if microsoft incorporated an option to allow us to choose regular screen size instead of only the wide screen size. On a positive note, the web cam was truly a "plug n play" item and had no problems installing it....huge plus!!! So overall I can't completely complain about this product when concerning the low cost I paid for it but if I was to pay the retail store's cost for it, I would have chose to return it for exchange to see if the camera was defective and if the new camera did the same thing, I would demand a full refund.

This is my second one, if that says anything. First of all this thing is a beast and captures video like no other. If you are going to run this bad boy at full res make sure to have a beafy system that's up to date any dual core or high system should do to prevent lag. This camera has a great picture quality especially for low light condition. Also the mike that is built in is assume and picks up sounds from any where in the room. If you dont like the bundled software buy you-cam they have version 5 now.Now for the bad, the only problem sometimes is the auto focus feature, buts its not that bad unless u are very picky. Overall this is a great cam. I would say i would buy again but I already have.To reduce file size of recordings either turn down the res or record and convert to another format.

I use this cam to monitor the parking lot outside through a window. It has a really wide angle view and a great pic. Easy to set up and the included software seems nice. I only use it to capture video of activity outside. Super easy to start the capture and good quality video. Highly recommend!!

I bought this cam after trying several. I was never very happy with any we've tried so far even though they advertised as HD, none had the quality that the LifeCam has. We are very pleased with the quality that the Microsoft LifeCam offers us. So far, so good. Our next option would be a high priced video recorder; however, none of the new camcorders so far that we've looked at allow live streaming video which is what we are after and to provide a high quality picture on the receiving end. At this point it seems we can skip the high priced video cam and stick with the Microsoft LifeCam. Not only is the quality much better than other cams we've tried, but it's a lot cheaper than those other cams, especially by purchasing it on Amazon. Very pleased with the performance as well as is our viewers.

So I have a 2004 laptop. The camera works but on the lower settings. Its decent and it makes you say wow if I get a better laptop this thing would work bananaz! Most laptops have cameras built in... D'oh, but not desktop computers. The high def features, and audio video quality is actually really good. If you ramp it up ot HD quality you'll sound like your in witness protection and it won't sync properly so I am stuck creating 320x240 videos. but it works for now...

Length:: 0:17 MinsI was looking for a USB camera to send pictures to a data projector for showing small details in a school setting. I didn't buy the IPEVO Point 2 View USB Camera because of price and plastic construction. I purchased this camera with Sunpak ClampPod Pro. It was necessary to drill a hole in the clamp (it is aluminum inside) on the camera. I threaded my hole to 1/4 inch but just a hole and a machine nut would also work. The Microsoft software only allowed an image to fill 1/3 of the screen and was not acceptable. I found an excellent surveillance software called ISpy (Google "surveillance ispy) which allows motion activation and setting frame record rate so it works better than I hoped. The HD image, light sensitivity and auto focus work well but the sound is low quality but adequate. It is also a great webcam.

I was REALLY pleased with this camera. I purchased this so that my husband could connect with his classmates to video conference for their projects. The focus is great when you're moving things closer to the lens to show details on paperwork. The color balance is true and there were no issues with setting up.

I received the camera just yesterday and I installed it right away. The image is gorgeous, the size of the device is small (though the picture published by the manufacturer is a close up that makes it look much bigger), very appropriate to carry wherever you go.Yes, my laptop, as all laptops nowadays, had its own web cam incorporated, but usually not with the resolution this camera has. Besides, being a detachable device, it allows the user to actually do amateur films of great quality. The price is absolutely affordable (again, a couple of days after buying it, I realize they rose the price. Lucky me!).I used it already by Skype and the counterpart noticed the improvement on the quality of the image before I told her I was using a new camera.What can I say? I recommend this camera with no hesitation.

this camara works great. it came in ungodly complicated packaging, but the camara itself works great. plug and play, no blue screens or driver failures. win 7 - 64 bit. skype, msmovie, self contained software work great. its picture quality is that of a 10 meg pix camara quality. the built in mic is great to. would recommend to everybody. the clamp is a type of flex clamp, self adjust to your mount.

I was able to easily install the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema on my old PC and was pleased with the results. My PC is about 6 years old. It's specs are: AMD Sempron 1.99 GHz, 160GB hard drive, and 3.31 RAM. I added extra RAM several months ago. My PC would accept the HD mode but only for instant viewing. When I tried recording myself playing guitar in HD mode my PC couldn't handle the load and the audio and video were disjointed and terribly out of sync with each other. But in the 640x360 mode it did much better and the audio and video were in sync with each other. I don't have a HD monitor anyway so viewing in HD quality would not be possible even if I had a more powerful PC. What HD mode did though was to enlarge the picture area on my screen which I still found useful.It's very lightweight and durable, being constructed out of metal instead of plastic so I think it should last for a long time. I had some trouble getting the rubbery clamp to grip my flat computer screen. It wants to flop around and I can't get to adhere to the screen with much stability. But I do like the fact that the camera can sit on a table top or other flat surface without having to be anchored to anything. I think the USB cord should be twice as long since some people like to video themselves doing various activities further away from the computer. I like to video myself and my students playing guitar. The camera would not attach to my music stand so I had to hold it in my hand to video reocrd my daughter playing guitar. The USB cord was not long enough to reach my bookcase which would have been the ideal spot to leave it for recording guitar video and sending live webcam video to family and friends. I was somewhat pleased with the audio for classical guitar. I expected the audio to be "tinny" sounding like it sounds on all my other video equipment but I was a little surprised to actually hear a somewhat close approximation to the sound of a classical guitar. I had the camera set about 5 feet from me and tried to get as close as I could to it without sacrificing the video of my playing technique nor my head. The sound was not good enough for serious recording, but it was perfectly good enough for webcam lessons. I will try using my H2 Zoom along with the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema and to get the best video/audio combination. One odd sound I kept noticing though, upon playback of my recorded guitar video was a quiet intermittant "chirping". I don't know what was causing this sound and I haven't yet found an answer to it. I didn't hear it at any other time except for when the recorded camera video was being played back so it had to have something to do with the recording system somewhere.It does fine on Skype. Unfortunately I have a slow internet connection so my video is not flowing but broken up. But that's not the camera's fault. I need to upgrade to a faster internet speed.So other than the rubber clamp not working as well as I would like, and the USB cable on the short side, and the chirping sound it really a very good camera. I played around with the special effects but I doubt I'll actually use them. My 8 year old got a kick out of them though!

BRIEFLYThe LifeCam delivers HD-quality video and good sound and it seems to work with all the apps that have the ability to recognize a camera when present.I was pleasantly surprised by LifeCam's quality and ease of use. A Webcam is a Webcam some may say and they may be largely correct but, as some of us know, little details often make the difference between a good product and a great product and I consider the LifeCam to be one of the great products in its class, especially at the current price level.PACKAGING AND INSTALLATIONIt's not so easy to get the cam out of the fancy box - be careful or you could end up with a few cuts from sharp plastic sheets - but, once out of the box, the installation is quick and easy. You run the CD - and you are warned NOT to plug the camera in until prompted to do so - you plug the camera into a USB port and... that's it. Microsoft recommends that you also install Windows Live but... thank you very much I can live without it. By not installing it I won't be able to begin a video call by tapping the little button on the top of the camera and that's okay with me.Physically, the camera sits safely on top of my monitor, the rubbery grip kind of bonded with it without me having to do much - inspired, efficient design.FEATURES AND OPERATION (see posted image)- Resolution can be anything from 160x120 to 1080x720 and a few more in-between.- Up to 424x240 you get 30 frames per second. Any higher resolution outputs only 15 frames per second. It's possible that the video card dictates the frame rate. I tested with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series with 996 MB Total available graphics memory.- Advanced video controls let you tweak brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, white balance, and set for backlight compensation if needed. If you happen to be in Europe, you can set the 'powerline frequency to 50 Hz to reduce flicker' - and I noticed no flicker myself.- You can also control the camera's zoom, focus, exposure, aperture, pan, tilt and roll and set the low light compensation on if needed - all of the above done through soft controls, no need to actually touch the camera.- It's also possible to 'move' the camera up/down and left/right and zoom in/out but these are limited adjustments and they do not work at the higher resolutions.- The cam's window also comes with 3 useful buttons that would, when pushed, snap a picture, stard audio capture and start a video capture session.- Finally, just for fun, you are provided with exactly 42 ways of having fun with your picture by either grossly distorting it, playing with the color mix or applying various objects on your face that the software tries to keep them following your moves: glasses, masks, wigs, hats and other such disguises.MY EVALUATION - 5 starsThere is really nothing to complain about this little device. Everything it does and the way it does it are close to superlative. I found the LifeCam to work with nearly all apps that will take advantage of a 'Web cam', be easy to setup and use, provide a steady, high quality image even in less than ideal conditions, allow for flexibility and even for fun.If you need a cam to sit on top of your monitor, can't go wrong with this one.

I tried every driver i could find and none of them would work with my Win7 pro 64 bit system-----plugged the camera into my XP machine and worked like a charm--from Google search this seems to be a common problem with some Win7/specific mother board setups----tried Microsoft support and getting through to a person either from e-mail or phone is next to impossible--sent the camera back, and as usual, Amazon is the best when it comes to returns.

This is a good camera. It is good in low light. Good with Skype and other purposes. But Skype usually uses 640x480 resolution even on very fast PC and connection.You can attach it to LCD monitor or laptop. But it is better designed for desktops.Auto-focus is not fast. But is can focus on a very close object.Microphone captures clear sound.Lens is very wide.
