We ordered two of these little cameras, one being for ourselves and one for my parents who are in their 80's. We have used them for about one year as of 1/2/12. I unreservedly recommend this camera for PC users who need a quick and simple solution for video chat or conferencing. It has been a beautiful solution for us to speak with friends and family and keep the kids in visible touch with the grandparents. Set-up was completely user friendly and we were up and running quickly with no frustrations. We use Skype as our interface and that connection was also extremely easy to navigate.I have recorded a couple of videos with this as well, and while the sound quality isn't professional, it wasn't expected to be. We paid about 40.00 for each camera on a Lightning Deal and I see that they are now at $35. That is a steal for this camera.Now for the rundown:PRO's:Easy set up.Clear picture (Very responsive. Little, if any, ghosting).Clear microphone (see below).Unobtrusive profile on top of monitor. No tools for install. Just a clever pliable soft mount.Lightweight (shipping weight is 1 pound, but the camera itself weighs just a few ounces).Good color reproduction.Great focus range.With Skype's "Share Your Screen" I am now able to do tech support for my family and friends. The LifeCam Cinema makes is easy!CON's:The auto focus drove me crazy until I figured out how to turn it off. I prefer to have it off.The microphone isn't great quality; just acceptable. Of course, I didn't purchase it for that, either.My system:AMD Phenom 3.2 GHz processor4 GB RAMWindows 7 - 64 Bit OSHighly recommend!

I purchased this because of the very high rating here on Amazon, but my camera cannot focus on me sitting in front of the computer. If I put my face or hand less than 6 inches away, it focuses perfectly well and shows the pores on my nose in perfect high definition. :) But sitting at a comfortable distance away, I feel like Barbara Walters with a Vaseline smeared camera lens. Maybe I just got a lemon, so I will try to exchange it.

I was unable to adjust sharpness of image. I guess you get what you pay for and the price is good. Next time i will spend more to get sharper image. The microphone is great.

The camera is crisp and is perfect of Skype/Hangouts/Video Chatting. It, however, always tries to auto focus, and sometimes is slow at it.The microphone is also adequate and is easy to hear.

I bought this webcam so I may create clear video instructions to embed into a Natural Eyesight Improvement E-book PDF. I need it to show fine print up close, clear and it does!! Also clear for distant but I do need to move the camera outside my window or closer to it for the camera to focus on far distant objects. Its good! Has a wide view screen. I am able to adjust the size; width, height, position of the screen, zoom in, out... To do this I must choose the next lower size than HD but its still clear. Presently learning settings for perfect clarity of moving objects like a high quality video camcorder. If can't find that, then will still get alot of use out of this webcam. I bought a long extension cord so I can move around the building and outside when filming or talking on Skype.

I've been using this webcam for about a month. So far, so good. It has a good picture and I have had no problems with the software. I used the software on the CD, since I'm running Vista, but people say it will automatically download the latest software if you have Windows 7 or above, and you can skip the CD. I didn't have any glitches or problems. I followed the directions which stated that you should install the software on the CD before plugging in the camera. I got it for Skype and it's been fine in this capacity. My friends say that the sound is fine on their end. I think I got a good deal.

Admittedly, I had reservations about buying this. Everyone I know told me Logitech was the way to go. Even my former employer bought a couple hundred Logitech webcams for team conferences. So I had prior bias. However, after viewing the video reviews made by buyers of the Microsoft LifeCam, I decided to get it. Having used the LogiTech Pro9000 at work, I can "swear on a stack of Bibles" that Ms-LifeCam IS absolutely a better video experience.I did not bother installing the included software. All I wanted was to use it for Skype calls. Turns out, the moment I plugged it into my computer, it automatically went out on the internet and installed the drivers AND software. I tested it by setting up my laptop in another room and then having my wife call me on the desktop that this LifeCam is setup on.

I haven't found a single thing about this camera that I feel the need to complain about!I've used it multiple times to record some vlogs and take some pictures for profiles on several sites. I've even used it with Google+ to Hangout with my mom.Everything was great.The software on the other hand is simply OK.Some times the fun things (the masks, fake hair, real time image alterations, etc.) just for whatever reason don't work. Other times they work without hesitation or issue.either way, that's the software's fault, not the camera, and I bought this for the camera. So long as my other apps can take over the camera, it's great in my opinion.I've already recommended this to several people and those have bought it also love it.

I watched a few video reviews and saw how the camera interacted with people online. Was impressed by the ease of set up and like how the camera works. So far, I'm happy with this camera. Does just what I need it to do and a little more.

I just want to start out and say that this is a REALLY great webcam. Of all the webcams I have used in the past, this one blows them out of the water. The standard quality is more than anyone can ask for, and Skype calls are crystal clear. Movement is captures very well. There is a small delay, but only noticeable during fast movements. The typical users would never notice.

I purchased this after buying a desktop computer and realizing that now I could not skype and video chat with friends. This camera is easy to set up and with the included mount attaches easily to your monitor. It has a quality picture and quality sound. I have not received any complaints from friends when using it and so far have not experienced any problems!

Ok, this is a really tiny camera. I think it was the barrel-shape of the glass lens mounted on the base but I pictured this thing as huge. It's not. It's petite. It feels nice as well. It feels well engineered, not cheap. It also has a nice little feat of engineering on the USB cable - OMG! a cable tie that actually works! I immediately noticed the construction quality of the webcam was top-notch. The top of the webcam contains the microphone as well as a small button that opens Windows Live Messenger.It seems like Microsoft put some thought into the design of the LifeCam Cinema. The rubberized, flexible base that attaches the LifeCam to displays and notebooks works extremely well, and the adjustable angles that the lens can accommodate make the camera very easy to position.features and audio/video qualityI started testing the webcam by simply taking still shots, videos, and audio-only samples. We were consistently impressed with the audio and video quality of the LifeCam Cinema. Audio was consistently crisp during a variety of recording tests ranging from music, TV, to spoken voice. To test image quality we took a still shot of some our audio and video collection in the office. In an unusual twist, still image quality paled in comparison to the full-motion video quality, which of course occurs at 30 frames per second in 720p resolution; there were noticeable compression artifacts in individual captured frames where full video hid most of the flaws.software and user experienceInstallation and setup of the LifeCam Cinema was simple. After installing the CD and plugging the webcam in, we were ready to go. The software is very minimalist and extremely easy to use. In a rare move from Microsoft, users are greeted with a pleasant user interface that is surprisingly bloat-free. We found that the special effects and features worked well, too. Whether users want to add a hat to someone's head or make them look like they're in front of a fun-house mirror, the software has the support for it.There are only three main functions to the software and they simply let users record still shots, audio, and video. Once a clip is saved it appears in a timeline below where it can be deleted or exported to an editing program or to e-mail. The settings menu allows users to change resolutions and color and focus settings, but we found setting adjustments to be unneeded. The autofocus works as promised on the LifeCam Cinema, and the lag time between refocuses is very small.A word on operating system support: officially, the LifeCam Cinema is meant for Windows and will only see its full feature set there. However, as a generic USB video device it should also work on Macs.It's clear that the contrast of the Cinema HD is far superior and oddly, it's just clearer. This camera is fantastic in low light. You really need a fast machine at the higher resolutions, like true 720p HD. This is to be expected, but if you're doing to record 1280x720p you're going to need a multi-core machine (basically a machine that's newer than 3 years old). That doesn't make the camera useless for regular video calls, but it is something to think about if you're getting this primarily for its HD abilities. That said, it's still fantastic at 480p and my laptop handles it fine. I suspect that this camera will just get better as software comes out to really utilize its abilities.It's hard to dispute the LifeCam Cinema as a great webcam offering from Microsoft, at least in its intended video role, the company has combined excellent moving image quality with a well-designed hardware concept; the only caveat is photo quality, which thankfully isn't the focus of these products. At its price, we would consider this webcam to be a bargain.

Breeze instal, approx. 10 minutes, hooked to Skype. Resolution adjustable and very good as is the motion response, no blur. Colors are great and audio is also. Great piece for the price

Easy set up, had it running in 10 minutes. Not Hollywood movie quality but better than I expected. My ISP is not the best (Cox Cable) so I'm sure that degrades the picture quality somewhat.

This is a great cheap video camera for the pc. I picked it up so I can have Google hangouts with the family. Its perfect for what it is, high quality video too, not blurry or pixel-ated at all.

If I could give no stars, I would. First of all, I've been trying to get the best Web Cam out there. I first got the Logitech Pro 9000. It was/is very good. But like Toyota and it's relentless pursuit of perfection, I wanted better. So, I got the Logi HD C910. It's actually about the same as the Pro 9000. I still wanted better so I took a shot at the MS LifeCam Cinema. It was only 35.00 shipped. ( now going for 40.00 ) Very bad camera. Horrible grainy Video and lousy autofocus. I came back to these reviews and then noticed there weren't really any that were recent. I should have looked closer. Installed the latest Software ( 3.6 ) it already had the latest firmware. I can't understand why it's so bad for me. I have tried this thing on 3 different PCs. All can dual boot XP and Win 7. It doesn't matter, they all gave the same results. The mount is just too flimsy too. You have to try and not move the cable or it will move the Cam or fall off. And, if/when you register this thing with M.S. they don't even have you select this or any other Hardware. You just REGISTER... Register what? Really weird!!!!So, I would not recommend this unless you just want to go cheap and aren't too concerned with quality Video. I would return it but the packaging is/was too complicated to put back together..I'm not kidding. I'll probaly give this to my Daughter and she can let the Kids play with it.It's Microsoft.. nuff said!

This camera has to be one of the best bang for your buck. Heck it captures in true 720p.. Even though 720p is still taxing on most peoples computers. I use it a 640 x 360 SD and it still looks great. This camera performs pretty good in low light situations as well. I do video reviews and podcast with three of these puppies and im very satisfied. Lots of people talk about the logitech c920, which cost more than twice as much.. I'll stick with the lifecams for that price. Even the on board mic isn't bad at all. It's very usable. I would say above the grade of most on board mics. The lifecam swivel mount is easy to use i fold them sideways to use on mic stands. i also drilled a hole so it can be mounted on camera mounts. The newer version that 1080p has a camera mount hole right out of the box. The life cam software is less to be desired though but it does the job. You can't beat this cam for 25 bucks

In general, I have no outstanding complaints. This camera is easy to use and has a great picture for video chat. It sometimes takes a wee bit longer than I'd like to focus, and the pictures it takes aren't crystal clear (but then it is a webcam, so one can only expect so much).

I didnt like the software this came with, microsoft has a long way to go on that part, its mostly used for skyping, and the picture is remarkably clear, light weight and portable, have actually dropped it once on a tile floor, and its still working good.

Once again, got a bit frustrated with my camera and decided not to film a review for this camera. Okay, I freely admit that that does not sound promising. That right now you could be thinking "Gee, if she aint gonna use it for a review cause it was too frustrating to use it must suck!" or "She must me a DOLT cause she can't figure the camera out." I personally, am leaning more towards the latter conclusion myself. :) I have spent considerable time making videos on this camera and trying to adjust it and use its features, but I have had numerous issues with it, but again, I am certain it is due to how much I suck with technology. I previously had two external cameras, the Logitech pro8000 and the pro9000, both which are pretty good cameras and I they are very easy to adjust the settings on and have pretty good add on software. The only major issues I had is that I am a singer (Go here for samples for videos done with the new and old cameras of cameras/mics [...]) and I am also broke and can't afford a good mic (trust me the ones I have bought aren't high enough quality to not go schizzo on me) so I usually just use the camera and the mics on those, and the mics on the logitech cameras are really good for only picking up your voice, I will give it that, but no matter how much I adjust them, the reverb is excruciating when I get loud or hit high notes (even without singing). The upside (and downside) to my new Microsoft LifeCam is that is does not give off high amounts of reverb (even without adjustment), the bad news is the amount of the background noise it picks up. Quite literally, it picked up my husbands heartbeat when he did sound test. I am not even kidding. lol Things I can't hear normally are picked up on that mic, it is kinda crazy, but trust me that is a minor complaint for me compared to my old cameras/mics. Seriously though, the software is, wait what software? I wish I could use my logitech software on this camera because it is terribly sub-par; there just isn't much there. It has a few things you can use to change your appearance and a few color options for the recording for the effects, which is fine I guess. I didn't care much about those so I really wasn't disappointed. As for the "tools", you can adjust the sound (which I didn't have to adjust much on this mic unlike the logitech camera mic), you can adjust the resolution, something about clear frame and I don't know what it means, I have been desperately trying to tell if that effects how bad the video synchronization is, but apparently that is not it (I'd also appreciate if you don't call me stupid, thanks. But feel free to give tips!), minimizaton of flicker (which I didn't find helped much), resultion adjustment, and sorry excuse for advanced settings. I got spoiled by the legitech cams abilities to adjust just about everything, and I am just not loving the software of this camera, but I suppose that's nothing new since unknown to me (I do not buy very many things from microsoft) they're software has always sucked. In terms of the camer itself, it is first rate and of a much higher quality than my logitech ones (although I'm tempted to switch back because I'm a novice and they were more idiot friendly due to easy and great software) and I would really recommend it extremely highly for those doing skype calls and things of that nature, it is not always amazing if you are moving around, but it is pretty awesome if you are mostly stationary and are talking or singing, I really have no complaints other than it keeps trying to refocus and I can't figure out how to turn it off. Seeing as I paid about the same for my Pro8000, in terms of the camera, this one wins hands down, no contest, but loses severely on the software. I have still yet to find the perfect web cam, and I probably never will, but I am happily contented with this one for now at least. :) God Bless ~Amy

I literally have a stack of a dozen or so webcams on my desk right now, and this one is my favorite. I've been testing them side by side to evaluate picture quality and compatibility with a wide range of software (it's a bit of a research project and the end result is that I'll be recommending one webcam to a lot of people).For the money I don't think there's a better USB webcam available right now. I find the Microsoft cameras to be widely compatible and very easy to install. Logitech's cameras are my second favorite over all but this little LifeCam is very good, and an excellent value at its price point. I have several more expensive cameras sitting right here that aren't as good.

I was looking for a WebCam to facilitate interactive communications with my and my wife's family, who are in the mid-west and southern states and are already using a WebCam.After checking out various WebCams (i.e. Logitech C905 and the 9000) at Best Buy, Office Max and Costco, I admit there are WebCams that are much better (and a bit more expensive). For the price I find the Life Cam VERY acceptable and with good resolution for my needs.The built-in mic is acceptable but could be considerably better. Again for for my needs. OK I'll work with it. Anything else and I'll use a different set-up.As I noted: This product... for what it was purchase for, I feel is a good buy. That is the hardware portion.The software portion is another story! I would think Microsoft could do MUCH better, but then again they did not put a lot of effort here. If you don't have a REAL fast processor with at least 2 Gig of memory, you might see some lag in the `lip-sync'. Some of this is correctable but I'm not giving a computer class, I'm rating this camera.All in all, I would recommend it to family and friends who want to use Skype, Facebook or other applications to keep in touch. There are better WebCams (and there are worse). This one fits a bit above the middle.
