Великолепно
This product performs as advertised. It is easy to set-up and performs flawlessly when used as the default storage location for Apple's Time Machine. I've own LaCie drives in the past and I have no doubt that this one will provide years of solid service.If I could I'd give this item a sixth star.

Setting up this external hard drive with my Mac was incredibly simple, and it has worked great from the first mouse click. I like the fact that its vertical arrangement requires minimum desk space, and I especially like the fact that it's quiet. It's a purchase I'm glad I made.

1. The cost was about the best that I found for a 500GB external hard drive.2. The 800 Fire Wire seems quite fast.3. I am able to work with Apple's Aperture program and have all the base pictures on the LaCie hard drive thus not overloading the hard disk on my Apple desktop.

The drive is new so I cannot say anything about its reliability, yet. It was very easy to set up for Windows: automatic format; two partitions that can be adjusted easily.However the instructions made it appear that the whole process would be much more difficult, claiming that the drive was formatted for the Mac and would have to be reformatted for windows and partitioned using XP disk manager and all software on drive would be lost.Instead installation was extremely simple!

I use this as an external HDD for my PS3. It works great. Since it comes FAT32 preformatted, it connects flawlessly to the PS3 as well as my laptop.Its been 5 months since I bought it and its been awesome so far.

This is the best hard drive we have ever used, it is quiet, and very fasy, my next hard drive will be from LaCie. I am a mac user, storing large raw format photos.

The drive seems to work fine. However, the backup software and restore points they promised do not work. It tries to run a backup every time I reboot and there are little to no configuration settings to control it.The backups always fail on data I have backed up on other drives countless times.

This drive had been working fine for 6 months. When it started failing mid-day. and reporting errors, I contacted customer support in hopes of an exchange. After 1 week of emails back and forth with a technician who's asked me to try a power supply from a different brand drive, plug it into another outlet, try a different cable. I still have no hopes of a resolution. Fortunately, I'm only using it as a backup drive. My old backup drive is humming along fine (with the same data cable, plugged into the same port and the temperamental Lacie) Looks like I'm going to eat $120 on this one.

I'm old school when an 80 meg hard drive was considered enormous. I can remember paying $200 for 4 meg of memory! 500 gig for under a hundred bucks. Plug into the usb drive and works like a charm. Amazing!

I have no complaints so far. Leave it plugged in 24/7 not too much heat. Makes no noise at all. Worth the extra money to buy something you know that will work.

The drive was quick and I was happy. I moved over 100Gs of photos, videos, documents, music (a few years worth of work) from my computer's hard drive and used this as external storage. I've had the hard drive for two months and bumped it (hard) recently. The drive now makes a beeping sound and is not recognized by any computer. LaCie is looking into replacing the unit but has promised even if the unit can be repaired, all information on the drive will be erased/reformatted. I did not back up my information. Suggestions (1) always back up your information on your drives and (2) be extremely careful with this unit.

I've just gotten this drive about two weeks ago and all the first impressions are up. Its quiet! Having no fan is a real blessing as I was hating the Maxtor drive. The innovative "auto" on and off switch. This allows the device to turn off once unplugged from the computer. A feature that came in handy since many of the drives come with a blinking light.This is the honey moon period and I'm impressed with how the performance of the drive has been. For me La Cie has always come through with some nice HD designs. Quality of workmanship and attention to detail sold me on this unit.

Pros: Four interface options (hence the Quad-ra). Large capacity HDD. Quiet. Has not gotten hot (but currently sits in a well ventilated area) Looks decent and has durable metal exterior (acts as heat sink too)Cons: Does not come with the rack for several HDD to be mounted like pictured in some of its promos.Summary: Only been using since 4/08 via eSATA connection, so can not comment on true internal durability, but transfers data quickly, despite daily use and no defrag. :) I Like it!!

It was used as a repository to store movies with a Mac Mini. Stopped working after 8 months. Keeps making hickup noises and the drive will now not mount. I have another and now I'm waiting for that one to go...

Four stars because I cannot speak to the question of longevity.This device has been running for about a week. It is dead quiet and runs cool. The the corrugated sides may help disperse heat. Those sides certainly make this unit more attractive than the old LaCie models.Connecting to a Mac could not have been easier: I just plugged it in. No, really.I was also able to daisy chain two LaCie drives with the Firewire connector that is included in the box. In fact, all the connectors -- Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and USB are included in the box.I hope that I like this product as much a year from now as I do now, but only time will answer questions about reliability.

I think this external drive is a very fast, very quiet means of storing a lot of data. I now own two of these units in two different capacities and I am very happy with both of them.

I got this LaCie drive based on the great performance we saw with the 1TB model at work. I'm using it with an iMac and Mac OS X 10.4 to store all of the video for a film I'm producing. So far it's proven to be fadt and reliable, which is what I want in a drive. (I'm using Firewire 400 since that is what the iMac supports.)

This product is great in storage capacity, but it has a flaw, it warms up very easy afer a playing a movie and probably it either could spoil its content or ruin the whole devise since heat is harmful to every electronic devise. It needs a built in cooling system to cool it off so it can be in use for hours without any damage.

The LaCie Quadra 500 GB drive does what you expect from a hard drive with multiple ports, looks good on your desk, makes little noise and contains all the necessary cables to plug into your Mac or PC. I didn't use the included backup software since I worked with Mac OSX 10.5 Time Machine but it's great that they include free software for backing up your data. Excellent product so far.

Had much difficulty attempting to get 500Gb LaCie Desktop Hard Disk to work with Windows Vista. After a few hours of work (and wasting my time with LaCie Technical Support), got the drive to connect so I could use it. Perhaps you need to have no other USB devices connected (my mouse seemed to interfere), and ignore all messages from Vista.Still cannot "remove safely" from Computer (in order to safely disconnect the drive). But can remove via a mysterious toolbar icon that appears when the drive connects.If you have a problem with a LaCie product, I suggest telling it to your dog. I found that you'll get a more intelligent and useful response than from LaCie.Had no problem using the drive with Mac OS X.

I suppose the hard drive deserves five stars, except that the USB cord could be a bit longer, AND (this is so embarrassing) the instructions were not too clear. I am NOT computer savvy and I had no idea how to copy the files from my Mac to the hard drive. (Little did I know it was as easy as copying and pasting or dragging and dropping.) Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you this! My brother had to do it for me. I guess it's so obvious the company doesn't feel the need to explain...
