I like this drive so much I've bought four of them (two for myself, two for friends and family). The only reason I gave it 4 (instead of 5) stars for reliability was because I haven't had any of them long enough to know if there will be problems sooner than other drives I've experienced. Other LaCie drives I've owned have always worked well for me, so I don't have an issue giving it at least 4/5.It is a bit bulky compared to the "pocket" drives, but those drives have MUCH lower reliability compared to full size drives like this one. I'd recommend against using the included stand. Any hard drive will fail quickly if it is subjected to the shock of falling over from "upright" to "horizontal". This drive has great heat dispersion built-in, just set it on a hard surface instead of a blanket or a pillow, and make sure it doesn't move while you're using it.The variety of included cables is GREAT! I wish other manufacturers would do the same.

Purchased a 1.5 TB drive as a Time Machine backup device for my wife's iMac. Installed easily and worked well enough... for six weeks. Will not mount, makes a 'zit... zit... zit... sound. Power Cycled... everything. No change. Drive is dead. Reported to tech support on the Friday before Memorial Day. We'll see how long it takes to get a replacement.

This external hard drive is fantastic. It's compatability with my laptop's software along with the extra speed it gives me when running some programs is exceptional.

I've used Lacie external hardrives for quite awhile now. Never have they ever failed. I won't use any other kind. I highly recommend this hardrive if you're serious about backing up your files.

Purchased in Dec. '09. Hard drive crashed June '10.Outside case is super cool looking. Big blue button on outside is very H.A.L.Heavy!Would recommend purchasing... just hope for a good HD. Back-up, Back-up, Back-up.

This can save headaches in a crash. 1 Tb is recommended. Half for the new BOOT drive and half for saved items. Very nice product. I am not a computer wiz and was able to handle the set-up without a problem. Instructions are very clear. It comes pre-formatted for MAC, so I did have to reformat it for PC, and it did take several hours, but again, not a problem. The unit is very quiet and decent looking. My only complaint if I had to look at it all the time would be the 2Big Blue Light - it is very bright and always on. There are many options for transfering data, and I have the slowest (USB). Even so, I was suprised how quickly 36+ Gig of RAW file format photos transferred (minutes). I also changed the RAID setting (again quite easily) to backup the data so that the two seperate 1TB drives received parallel data (i.e., duplicate 1TB backups). I now have lots of space and double backup. No doubt this is probably overkill for the average Joe, but very nice and well worth the expense.

I have heard nothing but good things about this brand. So I trust that in the end I will be very pleased with this item but at present I continue to have difficulties with my back ups. They appear to be getting interrupted and then aborted. I must make the time to chase this down with Technical Support. On my initial call to LaCie Technical support I was provided the best support I have ever received from a manufacturer. I trust that my next call to them will resolve my issue. The unit is a little noisy but I believe this is due to a fastener on the housing being a bit loose. Again, something I expect to get resolved. Haven't had this long enough to vouch for its reliability or durability, but I'll say this: It's tiny in size and huge in capacity. It seems like the case is very sturdy. The only thing I don't like is the edges are sharper than I'd like.

I bought this hard drive to back up my computer with time machine. So easy. Plug it in and turn on time machine and that's about it. Running Logic Pro on my computer and I record directly to the d2 quadra. It's very quite and kinda cool to look at with the big blue button! I have two Lacie HD's and experienced zero problems. Get one!

I like it just fine. Tricky thing is I had to reformat my HDD by going to Mac's Disk Utility and selecting Mac OS Journaled. If I do it using Lacie's software, I have to agree to their terms, which (from what I remember) appears to suggest no liability in case my HDD fails or something. Anyway, it works fine other than that. I have another Lacie, which I got about a year and a half ago, and being satisfied with that HDD's performance, I decided to get this one as a backup. Hope it lives a long life!

I bought one of these brand new and it stopped working about thirty days later and I hadn't even gotten around to really using it yet, as it was purchased to store some recordings I was making and those weren't done yet. So, it basically stopped working from merely being booted up each time my PC was turned on.I called Lacie and that's when I was informed that I would have to send it back AT MY EXPENSE and all they would do is try and fix it (yea sure) or replace it with a refurb (which of course they did). So, let me get this straight, they have a defective, broken down junk product I was foolish enough to buy brand new, that they want to add insult to injury over by making me PAY to send it back to them, only to have it replaced by a refurb?! At least Western Digital just sends a replacement out. In summation LaCie's Customer Service is horrible and a real disservice. I will never buy another LaCie product and would be very pleased to see them go out of business.
